Installing a custom HUD in SpiffyHUD
SpiffyHUD doesn’t have a separate “install HUD” button — you create or import a layout in FancyMenu/Spiffy 🙂
If you want to use a shared HUD/layout
The only place where layouts can be downloaded is the #layout-templates channel in the Discord server. Most screenshots on mod pages are not downloadable.
How to add it
- Open the Pause menu
- Click the SpiffyHUD button in the top-left of the FancyMenu bar
- In the editor, create a layout for the current screen or import a layout if you already have one
- Save the layout and leave the editor
Important
- SpiffyHUD only works with FancyMenu v3
- If you’re using SpiffyHUD v1/v2, please update to SpiffyHUD v3
- If you’re using FancyMenu v2, I can’t provide support for SpiffyHUD — please update to FancyMenu v3
If you want, I can also tell you how to import a downloaded layout file step by step 😊
how would I go about importing the layout?
Sure 🙂 If you already have a layout file, you can import it into FancyMenu/Spiffy like this:
- Open the game and go to the Pause menu
- Open the Spiffy/FancyMenu editor
- In the menu bar, go to Customization → Layouts
- Look for an Import option
- Select the layout file and import it
- Save the layout after importing
Important
- The layout has to be made for a supported Minecraft/Spiffy version
- If it’s an old FancyMenu v2 layout, it won’t work properly in v3
- SpiffyHUD only works with FancyMenu v3
If you want, send me the layout file type you have (.txt, .zip, etc.), and I can tell you the exact way to import it 😊
The layout I have is a zip folder do I have to unzip it?
Yes — usually you need to unzip it first if it’s a normal zip containing a FancyMenu/Spiffy layout folder or files.
What matters is what’s inside the zip:
- If it contains a layout file/folder for FancyMenu, extract it into your instance’s
config/fancymenu/area - If it’s a modpack-style config backup, you usually copy the extracted
config/fancymenu/folder into your instance
Important
- Don’t import the zip as-is unless the file itself was specifically made for import that way
- Most shared setups are meant to be extracted first
If you want, send me a screenshot of the zip contents and I can tell you exactly where it should go 😊
It has 3 folders, one called config, the second called custom_hud, and another called raw, where would I place these files?
That sounds like a full config export, not a single layout file.
You should usually copy the extracted contents into your Minecraft instance so that:
config/goes into your instance’sconfig/foldercustom_hud/andraw/should be placed inside the FancyMenu config folder only if the archive was made for that structure
Best safe way
If the zip contains a config folder at the root, do this:
- Open your Minecraft instance folder
- Copy the extracted
configfolder into the instance - Let it merge with the existing one
- Start the game and check if the HUD appears
Important
- SpiffyHUD needs FancyMenu v3
- If this archive came from an old setup, it might be from FancyMenu v2 and then it won’t work properly
If you want, I can help you verify the folder structure if you send a screenshot of what’s inside those folders 😊
If it's a spiffyhud does it still go in the fancymenu config folder?
Yes 🙂 SpiffyHUD is an addon for FancyMenu, so its layouts/resources still go in the FancyMenu config folder.
So in your instance, that usually means:
config/→ goes into your instance’sconfigfolder- anything related to the HUD/layout itself → ends up under
config/fancymenu/
Important
- SpiffyHUD only works with FancyMenu v3
- If the pack was made for an older FancyMenu/Spiffy version, it may not work correctly
If you want, I can help you figure out exactly where custom_hud and raw belong if you send a screenshot of those folders 😊
Hi! I can see the files in your config/fancymenu/custom_huds/stardew folder 🙂
That means the pack is already in the right place for Spiffy/FancyMenu. You normally do not need to move those files somewhere else.
What this means
config/fancymenu/custom_huds/stardew/= your custom HUD pack folder- The files inside it are the HUD textures/elements for that layout
Next step
Make sure:
- you have FancyMenu v3
- you have SpiffyHUD v3
- the pack/layout is actually enabled in FancyMenu
If it still doesn’t show up in-game, tell me:
- your Minecraft version
- your FancyMenu version
- your SpiffyHUD version
and I can help you figure out what’s missing 😊
Hello 🙂 I can see it now.
These .psd files in config/fancymenu/raw/ look like the source files for the HUD pack, not the final in-game layout files. So:
raw/= keep these PSD source files herecustom_huds/stardew/= this is the actual HUD pack folder that FancyMenu/Spiffy uses in-game
So yes:
You should keep the raw folder in config/fancymenu/raw/ and the HUD files in config/fancymenu/custom_huds/stardew/.
Important
FancyMenu/Spiffy does not use PSD files directly for rendering — these are usually just project/source files for editing. The game uses the exported HUD/layout files in the custom_huds folder.
If it still doesn’t show in-game, the most likely issue is:
- the layout isn’t enabled
- or the pack needs to be imported/exported differently
If you want, send me a screenshot of the custom_huds/stardew folder contents again and I can tell you if the actual HUD files are in the right spot 😊
Hi 🙂 This screenshot helps a lot.
That .fhlayout file in config/spiffyhud/customization/ looks like the actual SpiffyHUD layout file. So the important part is:
config/spiffyhud/customization/stardew_layout.fhlayout= the HUD layoutconfig/fancymenu/raw/= source PSDs and other raw assetsconfig/fancymenu/custom_huds/stardew/= any HUD assets/images if the pack uses that folder
In short
For this pack, you likely need both:
- the
spiffyhud/customizationfile for the layout - the
fancymenu/raw/fancymenu/custom_hudsfolders for the assets
Good news
Your layout file is in the right-looking place already. If it’s not showing in-game, the next things to check are:
- FancyMenu v3 installed
- SpiffyHUD v3 installed
- the layout is enabled
- the pack is for the same Minecraft version you’re using
If you want, I can help you check whether the file names/folder structure match what Spiffy expects 😊
Once I have already placed these folders where they are how do I enable this layout for spiffyhud?\
To enable it, open Minecraft → Pause Menu → SpiffyHUD/FancyMenu editor and then:
- Go to Customization
- Open Layouts
- Find
stardew_layout - Make sure it is enabled
- If needed, make sure the current screen customization is enabled too
Important
SpiffyHUD layouts only work with FancyMenu v3.
If the layout still doesn’t show:
- check that it’s a layout for the current screen
- or it may be a universal layout that needs the right screen enabled
If you want, I can also tell you how to verify whether stardew_layout.fhlayout is a universal layout or a current screen layout 😊
the layouts folder says no layouts found?
That usually means SpiffyHUD is not seeing the layout file in the expected place.
Please check these 3 things first
- The file is really inside:
config/fancymenu/customization/ - The file extension is really
.fhlayout- not
.fhlayout.txt - and not still inside a zip
- not
- You are using FancyMenu v3 and SpiffyHUD v3
From your screenshot
You had the file in:
config/spiffyhud/customization/
But SpiffyHUD/FancyMenu layouts are normally read from FancyMenu’s config folder, so try moving the layout file into:
config/fancymenu/customization/
Then
- restart Minecraft, or
- reload FancyMenu if you have that option
If it still says no layouts found after that, send me a screenshot of the full folder path and the filename with extensions shown, and I’ll help you check it 😊
do I have to put the raw file and custom hud file in any specific place in the fancymenu folder?
Yes — those folders need to stay in the exact folder structure the pack expects.
Based on your screenshots
-
config/fancymenu/custom_huds/stardew/
→ this is where the HUD assets go -
config/fancymenu/raw/
→ this is where the PSD/source files go -
the actual layout file should be in
config/fancymenu/customization/
So the important thing is:
Don’t put the files randomly inside fancymenu. Keep the same folder names and structure from the pack.
If the layout still says no layouts found, then the main issue is probably that the .fhlayout file is in the wrong folder or not being read by FancyMenu.
If you want, I can help you verify the exact final folder tree based on your files 😊
