so when i try to select an element on my screen its super iffy and what i mean by that is that i have such a hard time for it getting to work

for example lets say i right click the screen and go to select and element and then i pick the multiplayer element and i click select

the item doesnt highlight with the name and where it is on the screen, nothing happens at all and i cant change anything and only a few buttons dont work

i know singleplay kinda works, if i try to select it nothing happens and if i right click and change what ever im hovering over it only changes the singleplayer button

It sounds like you’re trying to edit the layout for a screen that doesn’t actually have customizations enabled yet, which makes the “Select Element” tool behave… weird. Spiffy needs you to enable editing for each screen (Title, Multiplayer, Singleplayer, etc.) individually—otherwise the editor can’t see those elements, and you’ll only be able to interact with whatever layout is already enabled (like Singleplayer in your case).

Here’s what you should do:

  1. Open the screen you want to edit (e.g., the Multiplayer screen).
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + C to open the FancyMenu bar, go to Customization, and make sure Current Screen Customization is set to Enabled.
  3. Create a layout for that screen (not a universal layout). Once that’s done, the “Select Element” menu and right-click context menu will correctly highlight the button/element you clicked on.

If the screen is from another mod or otherwise not editable, FancyMenu can’t grab its widgets—so you’d only be able to edit whatever native elements it can “see.” For more details, check the “Getting Started” page and the “Vanilla Elements” section in the docs:

Let me know if the buttons still won’t highlight after that and we can dig deeper.

Thanks for checking that! Since it’s still buggy even with customization enabled, we’ll need a bit more info before we can help properly:

  1. Which screen are you trying to select the element on (Multiplayer menu, Title screen, Pause menu, etc.)?
  2. Are there any other mods that add or heavily modify that screen? Some mods add widgets in a way FancyMenu/Spiffy can’t hook into.
  3. Can you tell me what version of Minecraft / SpiffyHUD / FancyMenu you’re on?
  4. Does the issue happen with all layouts, or just one in particular?

If you can provide those details, I can check for known limitations or walk you through a workaround.

Thanks for the extra info! Since this happens on the Title screen and across all layouts, it’s probably not a bug with Spiffy itself but with how the screen is being edited. A couple of things to double-check:

  1. Make sure you’re editing a “For Current Screen” layout.
Universal layouts and other layouts can’t target specific vanilla widgets, so the Select Element tool won’t highlight anything. Open the Title screen, press Ctrl + Alt + CCustomizationLayouts → New → For Current Screen, and edit that layout. That ensures the editor actually has access to the Title screen’s buttons.
(Doc reference: Getting Started / Creating layouts)

  2. If you already have a layout for that screen, check that the Title screen’s elements are not hidden.
Right-click the background, go to Element → Deleted Vanilla Elements, and make sure the buttons you want to edit aren’t hidden there.

  3. Some mods override the Title screen in a way FancyMenu can’t hook into, which makes selection behave weirdly. If any of your mods replace the Title screen (e.g., certain launcher-type mods), FancyMenu may not be able to highlight those widgets at all. In that case, you can only add entirely new elements rather than modifying the vanilla button.

If the layout is definitely a “For Current Screen” layout and the buttons still refuse to highlight, let me know and we can try recreating it from scratch or narrow down whether a specific mod is the culprit.

FancyMenu should i delete this mod or keep it?

Since the issue affects every layout and the Title screen, it’s faster to recreate the layout from scratch first—just make a fresh “For Current Screen” layout for the Title screen and see if the Select Element tool works there. That tells you immediately whether the editor can see the vanilla buttons at all.

If that still behaves weirdly, only then start disabling mods one by one (or test in a clean instance with only Spiffy/FancyMenu) to see if a specific mod is blocking FancyMenu from hooking into the Title screen. The documentation’s “Getting Started” guide explains how to create screen-specific layouts and how to check deleted vanilla elements, which is a good first step: Getting Started / How to Access Spiffy’s Editor.

Let me know how the fresh layout behaves and we’ll take it from there!
