Also meeting the Paladins of Tyr was interesting. Roseanne (the dark urge) spoke to them while I hid upstairs, and they were talking to her as if Karlach was in her usual spot down down down by the river.

Paladins be like: "we fought with this horrible devil all day Karlach and she killed a few of us"

Yeah, one of my few complaints about this game is, at least early on, it can feel less like your character is adventuring with a group of friends and more like a gang of potential suitors is pursuing you through the countryside

So I officially "raided" the grove last night. ||Basically what Eav did was steal the idol for that sweet reward from Mol, then attacked Kagha for Zevlor, which prompted the druids to start attacking the tieflings. If you just book it after killing Kagha the grove will seal if you fast travel, so I stayed and helped the tieflings and fought the druids. It was such a tragic scene About 3-4 tieflings survived and left the grove. Then I went to Minthara and the raid "officially" began but there was nobody left alive in the grove. They just turned up and chilled there. And yet interestingly afterwards it is fully framed as you having murdered the tieflings, nothing is said about the druids even though I literally defended the tieflings against the druids 😅||
Also let me tell ya, it doesn't feel good at all!

Oh and I forgot to add, what the atmospheric grove music does in this scenario is super interesting. At first you have the usual peaceful little tune. Once ||the tieflings and druids start fighting it becomes very somber and very quiet. And when the goblins arrive it becomes the same tune as the goblin camp.||

Honestly the clip wasn't clear about how the scene triggered, comments werent helpful either, but from bits and pieces I made an educated assumption

I am not proud of it. Went to the goblin camp before freeing Sazza to take care of a few things. ||"Ha let's throw rocks at this bear. Oh shit the bear broke free and is attacking us! Wait.... the bear turned into an elf? Aaaanyway he's dead now."||

So it's not gonna trigger for me either I'm afraid.

Interestingly the journal entry is like ||"this bear turned into an elf and we killed him" if you haven't asked around to figure out where Halsin is. But like, when he reverts to elf form the UI clearly tells you it is Halsin||

But I noticed that ||none of the children's bodies were around.... and I found them in the Dragon's Lair, cowering in terror||

My guess is that his flags are easy to trigger. On my Monk's file his romance never triggered, but she didn't ask him about past lovers when getting to know him (for starters). Despite having great approval with him, by not asking certain questions she dodged it entirely.

We missed the opportunity on our multiplayer file, but we agreed we're going to do it in the ||House of Hope||. We already ahve a scroll of Globe of Invulnerability, so all the first person in the load order has to do is down a Haste Potion, cast Globe of Invulnerability (making sure to get ||Hope|| in the sphere while we do it) and lob the ||Runepowder Barrel|| right at ||Raphael's face||

We'll take down ||all of the pillars, all of the summons, Kormilla, and Yurgir (since our party is NOT face-heavy and we will likely fail to get him on our side this time anyway)|| in one glorious swoop

Also since the ||Runepowder barrel & bomb|| auto-crit hit, that means instead of dealing ||60-120 force damage, Raphael and all of his minions will be hit with 120-240 force damage on the very first turn||

I've got a friend of mine who believes that this is heresy to edit a set character into a different path because fans liked her so much

He really does sound like he feels so bad for the partner of a Karlach who died. He can actually give you some fairly comforting words as well. He talks about how she got to live a lifetime in the short burst of days she had with you, about how she's doing In the fugue plane (the statements also basically confirming that the wall of the Faithless is in the proverbial garbage bin where it belongs), and assures you that the two of you will reunite one day. all of this with a genuine compassion to his tone and mannerisms that almost made me tear up, ngl. Withers VA did an amazing job with that bit in particular imo||

||also kind of a huge deal because Veris turned into a mindflayer at the end of the game, but Jergal still assures him that he's going to see Karlach in the fugue plane. It could be an oversight, or it could be confirmation that either something about our ceramorphosis allowed us to keep our apostolic soul (a soul that the gods of faerun can interact with) or that non-apostolic souls can still be sent to the fugue plane, though they may not get farther than that.||

But my friend, you have to see the epilogue in a playthrough where ||you went to the hells with Karlach! There is a thing that is said||

The two epilogues I watched have had differences that I did not expect. You've got the obvious: ||Dav is living the cottagecore lesbian life with Shadowheart, her parents, and about 50 animal rescues while Bav is causing mayhem in the Hells with Karlach. One of the parties had a redeemed dark urge and not the other. One of the parties had Minthara being her usual grumpy self and the other had Halsin giving the best bear hugs.||
But interestingly, ||Jaheira and Minsc were different between the two, especially Minsc. Chatting to Nine-Fingers with Minsc seems to wildly affect his epilogue||

After some thinking, I've decided that I need to go back on my Wizard's file and change the ending. Seeing ||illithid Karlach|| in the epilogue hurt my heart enough that I've been thinking about it at work all day, so I might need to go back and ||sacrifice Orpheus|| instead. I am dreading it, though, because seeing Lae'zel so calm and happy and fulfilled was so heartwarming. ||I don't want to ruin the life she's made for herself free of Vlaakith, but Karlach also deserves her happy ending too 😭 ||

Never going to happen on a good character's file, but I'm genuinely curious to see if ||The Emperor|| shows up to your party if you sided with him

Ok ok so, I have found that Bav's endgame choices make for the most satiffying ending! ||She is of course in Avernus with Karlach, Orpheus is a tentacley boi but very much alive and helping his knights of the comet (not as involved as if he was still gith though), which means Lae'zel is in more of a leadership position and very happy||

Definitely agree that ||Karlach in Avernus is 100% her best ending, with the thing that she says.||

I already know what I'm doing for my honor run! A Way of the Elements Monk/Great Old One Warlock. Hex, punch punch, elemental punch, punch punch, repeat

For Warlock spells I'm picking Friends & Minor Illusion (because non-Elements spells cost a full action and cannot use Extra Attack, and I'm probably going to need that A LOT in Honor mode), with Devil's Sight for unimpeded vision even in Darkness & Hunger of Hadar as well as Mask of Many Faces (the only other one that would've been helpful would've been Beguiling Influence, but my monk already has proficiency in Deception & Persuasion so it's not worth it. Also potions of Animal Speaking are incredibly easy to find and make, so getting the ritual for it as a Warlock feels slightly wasteful)

||Imo Karlach is a very optimistic person, but whenever the topic shifts to anything involving the hells (Zariel, her engine, the house of hope etc.) She has a very fatalistic view of things, understandably so, and its likely a very well informed fatalism, but it also feels very unhealthy. Then if you ask her at the end if she really wants to go she isn't so sure anymore, she's healing, she's found things worth challenging that fatalistic outcome for.||

Currently in Act 2 at level 8 and Eav's build is working marvelously!
She is Great Old One Warlock 5 (pact of the blade) / Champion Fighter 3, highlights include:

• Wielding the invisible glaive means advantage on weapon attacks + crit on 18 (would be 19 but it stacks with Champion), and every time she crits the enemy gets frightened
• Ring of Arcane synergy means that as long as she has previously eldritch blasted someone, her weapon attacks deal double her spellcasting modifier damage
• Helm of Arcane Acuity means that as long as she has used weapon attacks, her eldritch blasts are more likely to hit
• Daredevil gloves means she can eldritch blast people point blank in the face with no disadvantage
• Action Surge, Counterspell and Repelling blast are always good bois to have
• if in a pickle, cast darkness on self (yayyy Drow) and make use of Devil's Sight invocation to snipe enemies while being almost untoucheable

I just had a very fun time in the Gauntlet of Shar, watching ||Balthazar and his horde of undead fight a megafuckton of Dark Justiciars||, it was very entertaining.
Basically the whole party stayed in hiding and Astarion triggered the cutscene, then went to lockpick and open the door behind which ||Balthazar|| was chilling, before going into hiding while the two armies fought each other. I have never seen so many critical misses, this battle lasted for like 15 rounds.

I had both Astarion and Lae'zel at 100 (and not Shadowheart, can you believe it? Ahhh being evil), and the game went for Lae'zel. I think that's because I reached max friendship with her first?
But also game pls, Eav had literally just confessed her love to Minthara that same evening, how dare you tell me her favourite person is somebody else I'm not salty you're salty||

My cleric of eilistraee has a really solid lore reason. Eilistraee kind of has a thing about wanting to save as many drow from the clutches of lolth as she can, and her followers take that pretty damn seriously

So saving a drow who has already cast off lolth and is possibly being tadpoled into the situation kinda fits

Might be hoping to encounter them again and properly deliver eilistraee's message

For the 10k, one of eilistraee's commands is to aid all drow who aren't actively doing evil, and tell them this:

So since Eav is about to reach Act 3 and bugged Minthara romance territory, I thought I'd slow down (hoping for a patch coming soon) and return to the adventures of Chav momentarily to properly kick the chaos off. Meet Chav, the Sorlockbard, she got a new hat (and new haircut of course).
Things that happened today:

• Got Withers and everybody got respecced, Shadowheart is being a beast as a Barbarian and MVP against the Harpies, having Karlach in armour is weird though!
• ||Bonked Alfira to save her life, ran away from Quil's throat singing, miserably failed every check to figure out what had happened in the night, as well as the check to hide the body (two Nat 1s in a row )||
• Discovered an excellent thing I was really hoping for: Wild Magic Surges apply to all spells, not just the Sorcerer ones. What that does mean is that applying Longstrider on the team daily is a bit of a lottery. Before logging off, Chav caused an explosion that hurt Lae'zel and Astarion, and downed herself. I love it.
• Camp clothes and underwear have been randomly shuffled, I think my favourite is Wyll with Lae'zel's underwear and Karlach's trousers.
• Chav 100% believes that ||Auntie Ethel is a lovely old woman here to help her, even though the game is so not subtle about telling you there's something off about her...especially as someone who is both an Archfey Warlock and a Wild Magic Sorcerer||

College of swords you gotta invest a bit into dex until you get the gloves of dexterity, but it is super powerful when you are a full caster and can counterspell 2 enemies per round

My swords bard just had the charisma ASI and resilient (constitution) feats, her last feat I went for martial adept so she had a couple more tricks up her sleeve in addition to the flourishes

My Sheart is a tempest Cleric with a Wiz dip and I just annihilated some goblins with Lightning Bolt

Sure I have to artificially boost her intelligence but as long as she doesn’t take the smart headband off she’s fine 😆

Actually that makes me wonder though… I wanted to adjust her attributes a bit but since she’s already learned some WIZ spells… does that mean I’ll lose those or do they come back when I pick up Wiz again 🤔

Honestly the only 4th level spells that are really worth it, IMO, are Minor Elemental, Blight & Ice Storm. Freedom of Movement comes on a bunch of gear, so the spell becomes redundant in act 3 IMHO. You can get LOADS (and I do mean LOADS) of Dimension Door scrolls from Sorcerous Sundries, so no need to waste spell slots on that. Confusion is too often saved in my experience to be useful, and Banishment is very situational and your Cleric can use it instead

So doing a 6/6 split might be the most beneficial

Since they're both full spellcasting classes you'll still have level 6 spell slots by level 12, so you can upcast things like Glyph of Warding, Call Lightning, Lightning Bolt, etc.

I've used both, and I think Wall of Ice might be more effective, as it stops line of sight for a lot of their casters. And if you destroy it with lightning attacks and a tempest cleric it electrifies the water which pushes back all enemies

I think now that she hit lvl 10, Eav has her equivalent devastating attack, not as powerful but still:

1. hex the target 2) eldritch blast eldritch blast eldritch blast and activate arcane synergy 3) action surge 4) stab stab stab
   Assuming all attacks hit, that's 3d10 + 15 force dmg + 3d10 + 36 slashing dmg (synergy doubles the charisma modifier added and it's a +2 weapon) + 6d6 necrotic dmg
   So on average 105 damage. Not too shabby.
   Oh and she has a 15-20% chance of critting on every attack, which frightens the target

I am downloading this game now, but was wondering what the pros and cons are between playing a custom character vs an origin in terms of story?

I like the idea of playing an Origin character but only on an additional playthrough. A big con if you play Origin first is you miss out on getting to know the actual character not to mention the really good voice acting

If you play as them you're making choices they wouldn't necessarily make themselves as characters and there's a bit of backstory but the trade-off isn't worth it IMO given they become more of an unvoiced protagonist player avatar

Yeah I highly recommend just being custom on your first playthrough. Then I recommend Dark Urge, and then other origins!

If you do an Origin as part of a coop, do you still experience the story as if you played them solo? Like are you treated as the protagonist or just as a fill in for the companion slot and Player 1 is the protagonist?

I’d say both custom and origin are more like BioWare than Bethesda. I’m not entirely sure re co-op as I’ve not started yet but I think it depends who hosts the game maybe

Everyone experiences it as protagonist, but getting approval from companions becomes a little bit harder if you're not the face of the party (though certainly still doable)

My Shadowheart Honor Mode is going well! Act 1 is officially over (||not sure if I have successfully gotten Minthara to Moonrise, but, WE SHALL SEE 😅 ||), now for the fun part!

This!! On my bestie and mine's Multiplayer file we take turns "taking point" on conversations where we knew we'd get approval from certain party members; for example, if they had Astarion in their party (in co-op mode your party splits between players, so while you and the other co-op player are technically still in a single party you need to have the companion you want in "your" party, i.e. your character has to invite that companion on the road) and I have Shadowheart in mine, and we're about to make choices that we know Astarion would like, then their character would do the talking.

So right now our approval with our companions, less than 10 quests before the end of the game, is pretty good across the board! The hardest one to garner approval for is ||Minsc||, and that's just because there's so few things to garner his approval to split between two people. But across the board we're all on good-to-exceptional approval with everyone

I imagine in a 3 or 4 person game the odds of getting approval levels that high are much, much lower

It didn't one shot him, but it took a good portion of his health, ||destroyed all of the pillars, and took out all but 3 cambions||.

I have Wyll for HoH, Gale's got Wall of Fire, and Karlach has a bunch of explosives I'm making her set up before we start. Would it be worth it to lay down water as well so before we throw fire on the barrels Shadowheart can use Call Lightning with Channel Divinity? Or would the electrified water interfere with the kaboom?

I genuinely don't know if I'll be able to have both Halsin & Minthara, but... idk, this is my Honor mode, I really want to make it work, and I'll be very sad if I can't.
