November P5R ||Just got the big reveal and it feels…really unsatisfying. Like it feels like the way they write the rules is in such a way that it makes no sense other than to specifically curate to this situation (like the logic doesn’t feel sound unless you look at it from the angle of “we had to do it this way to make this work,”) and it just feels incredibly deus ex machina while simultaneously almost…arrogant feeling in how it presents everything working? iunno. it just feels really empty which is a huge letdown after a beautifully designed palace.||

I get what you mean but I think it does still make sense.
The logic of || the line between palace/metaverse and reality gets fainter the further away you get is discussed a lot prior and even a little bit more later on, especially with Kamoshida/Kaneshiro/Futaba so in my brain it made sense that they would try to fool Akechi that way. They needed Akechi to get overconfident ||

The warp being ||when Futaba uses the button to throw Sae and Akechi into the metaverse, because at every other point they’ve accessed Sae’s from Just That One Point||

Tbh there’s a Whole Long List Of Points That Don’t Make Sense To Me, but ||the top one to me is the fact that Sae, left alive and introduced to the information that 1) Joker not only bested her inside her palace through combat, but ALSO put her on the backfoot during their interrogation and shook her understanding of…basically everything to its entire core AND recruited her sister, and 2) Akechi is introduced as a traitor, absolutely batshit crazy, and via joker’s retelling, involved in the pursuit in such a way that not only was he higher clearance than Sae, but higher clearance in a way that suggests Sae’s entire body of work at the SIU was purely for other’s personal gain; does not either perceive Joker, Akechi or Both as such an imminent and intense threat that one if not both would be in costume during the shooting despite the extended radius from the casino, nor does she hit the point of being able to have an awakening.||

Additionally, ||both cognitive and physical joker would be present in the metaverse during the shot, and Akechi would ABSOLUTELY see through the slight discrepancies as cognitive joker is actually shot while physical joker copies the motions||

I'd chalk this up to overconfidence. At that point, || Akechi thought he was home free. He probably dropped his guard a bit. ||
I don't know if that's it but that's my read

This part... I'm not sure. || The Sae that saw Akechi was legit Sae, not shadow, so the whole "threat-costume" thing may not apply. She's also decided to throw her lot behind joker anyway at this point, so he's not a threat either. ||

||I think the rule is that you have to leave the metaverse from the same place you enter, not the other way around. They enter from the same spot each time they infiltrate because that's the closest they can get to starting inside her palace, but in the flashback they also implied that they went into Sae's metaverse in places not near where the actual palace was to check to make sure that everything else was pretty much exactly the same||

||Ah, I forgot a little tidbit: it’s Akechi who would see the costume as a dead giveaway to the fact they’re in someone else’s cognition, but Sae’s cognition would be what manifests it||

There's also a very real possibility || Akechi didn't know as much about the metaverse as the Thieves. All he did was drop in and kill targets, he may not have known all the ins and outs ||

||Not necessarily, he got all the research that he stole from Wakaba which the Phantom Thieves didn't have, but Wakaba presumably never entered the metaverse herself so Akechi didn't have a guide with first-hand experience like the Phantom Thieves did with Morgana. It really depends on just how much Wakaba figured out which we don't know||

||Sae was never truly "in charge" of the case imo. It seems like pretty much from the minute the director put her in charge of the case he was already planning with Akechi to just use her to get police in her palace and catch the thieves in the act||

Ok this is a long shot || but it's possible that other students may not have questioned any of it at all. I think to some extent, bystanders need to be aware of someone entering the metaverse to be dragged in? Akechi may have at least hinted to the police what he was doing as he did it, pulling the cops in. Whereas the random Shujin students wouldn't notice because they had no clue what Joker/Ryuji were doing. And having the potential for a Persona may affect it as well for Ann. I genuinely don't know but this is kinda what I'm thinking. ||

Like || no one ever ends up in the metaverse despite you entering from a crowded subway so there has to be some logic behind it ||

This isn't exactly me but it's been a few years since I played P5 so trying to remember the exact rules of everything be like

See that’s the thing - ||the twist feels like exactly the opposite of an AI twist and I think that’s a lot of frustration with it. With AI it’s a lot of carefully written throwaways that come to fruition when you make a second pass through, and a lot of open thoughts to spin on. With this it’s a lot of omitted scenes and hastily written rules that feel tailored to making the twist work rather than effective world-building, that feel designed to shut your train of thought down from wanting to go back.||

Overall I think it’s a personal thing - in my experience with P4G and P5R, it’s really felt like the emphasis on a lot of points feels imbalanced, and some of the choices they make end up exacerbating that. But again, it’s my personal feeling, and coming from a perspective of not having completed p5r

Being heard and acknowledged by someone who knows a therapist's language and being treated by a professional are two different things.||

Make sure that when you reach the 3rd dungeon, make sure you're not going to have someone walk in that you're going to then have to explain what's going on them

For p3p, save often and also don't dally around in Tartarus because if you do, you're gambling with instant death spells. You do not want to redo 10+ floors of that boring dungeon.

Also if femc, befriend shinji as soon as you can. Don't ask questions. Just boost the shit out of that link

Major P5R end of game spoilers ||So I just did 2/2 last night. While I still have the final fight left to go, I’m making my judgement now, which is: while I feel third semester is a very interesting story, I just…don’t feel like it fits in with the game. Like it’s so nuanced and subtle with its tone compared to how heavy handed the main game is, that it doesn’t feel like it’s actually a part of the game, and that does a disservice to it in a major way - to the point that I kept going through it with a feeling of wanting more, more emotional impact, more outwardly emotional performance, and just kept feeling like I wasn’t getting that. To the point that I would say the unemotional choices they make for the most part really took Sumi’s second awakening from something that was set up to be so incredibly emotional, so charged, and had potential to dethrone Makoto’s as the best in my book to just…incredibly blah. Where’s her desperation? They literally threw her into the center of a multiman combat and forced the party out of it, knowing full well she has no protection - would she not be praying to some, any god with every fiber of her being for that ability to come back? Knowing that if it doesn’t, she’s not only resigned to the useless person she’s so fearful of, but also quite literally dead in the water? I was expecting anguish and pain and hurt the way they set up that whole scene, and it just…felt like nothing.

Second gripe is - now seeing third semester, I really dislike Maruki, and I could genuinely feel them trying to make you sympathize with a character like that, but every bit of backstory had the opposite effect on me. Like they can make these motives as complex and as longstanding as they want, he’s still just a selfish simp with attachment issues.||

She’s purposefully put herself into a high risk situation to try and prompt herself to awaken to her potential, and in doing so is not only ripping away her still-unresolved grief, her sorrow, her current understanding of the world, her understanding of herself, and the comforts she had created herself in her altered cognition (and likely in her mind, the last things tying her sister to this earth,) knowing full well that if she’s wrong, she will die by these enemies’ hand, and the fact that it’s this short monologue while everyone’s waiting at the sidelines, and then they go to the bloody mask for like four seconds, to honestly pretty casually asking for Cendrillon to help, and imo it does not do that emotion justice, nor does it meaningfully resolve the tension it creates. If any of you have seen the Crisis Make Up scene from Sailor Moon, that kind of rawness is what I was expecting out of the scene.||

||also this is no fault of the dub, but rather, a fault of the scene - JP takes it in the same direction. But overall, the scene needs to let itself marinate and revel in the dramatic beats for Sumi, and push farther emotionally||

I know this is like a week old but.

||Royal's story/3rd semester feels jarring because they had to retrofit it into an already complete story. It was going to feel jarring from the start without drastically changing Vanilla's ending.

The message that Persona 5 is trying to tell is that changing the world doesn't require super powers or defeating gods. Just to change perspective, even if it's just your own.

The 3rd Semester however, was trying to convey the message of being able to move on from loss, from those that put you down, and focusing on making the world a better place. It's a great message, but it feels out of place because this was added in on top of the original game.||

I spent the last 10 hours playing P3P on my NG+, this time on the male route for the trophy, but I haven't fought the first boss yet. Why? I wanted to see if I could get my Orpheus to have some key skills before the compendium opened up. Namely: Ziodyne (from Thor), Bufudyne (from Parvati), Agidyne (from Surt), Garudyne (from Loki), Cool Breeze (from Ose), Sharp Student (from Zouchouten), Recarm (from Nigi Mitama), and Salvation (from Vishnu).

Since none of the listed personas are available to me yet via the compendium, I had to fuse them. All of them. With only the personas available to me on this New Game+ file (the first 10 floors of Tartarus & Monad).

Was it a waste of a Sunday? Most likely. But I did do it, so I'm going to stick with my new Orpheus this run :3c

Here are mine:
-I much prefer the darker stories of Persona 2 and 3
-I think there should be better LGBTQ+ representation in the Persona series
-I don't care if people say Yoshizawa and Marie feel forced, while they may have their flaws, they are still good characters in their own ways
-The fanservice has got to go, especially the hot springs scenes
-Persona 4 is easily the weakest in the series
-I much prefer the Press Turn System in the SMT games compared to the "One More" system in Persona
-Atlus should stop milking the series so hard, they should let their other games shine every once in a while
-Strikers is a great sequel to P5 compared to P4 Arena as to Persona 4
-People should stop worshiping Adachi of all characters
-I feel like the updated rerelease model that was with Persona 3, 4 and 5 will ultimately become discredited over time
-Velvet Attendants peaked with Elizabeth

-Rise and Narukami are actually very good together and I'm tired of the P4 fans saying that her only character trait is her crush on him
-No, Makoto is not a bad or "boring" character, just because her problems aren't as dramatic as everyone else's, it doesn't mean she's bad
-Second, her confidant focusing on Eiko is great, actually. A significant part of her backstory, as well as the meaning of the reversed priestess card, relate to either not trusting your instincts and/or not communicating well. Makoto figuring out how to get through to her is actually a perfect representation of the reversed card
-yes agree, cool it with the overt fanservice. i didn't mind the P5 beach scene personally but everytime I see an Operation Babe/Maid hunt scene, I want to commit Evoker.
-in terms of how the users interact, I hate SEES, with a few exceptions. I like the individual characters but god I'm glad that 4/5 made the characters actually friends for more of the game
-Ohya is good, y'all are just mean
-while I hated the airlock puzzle, please make more dungeons like it. Puzzles good.
-Cool it with the fake out endings, please
-There needs to be waaaaay more options to turn down romantic confidants. Please, just give me a "I'm sorry, but I'm already dating X" dialogue option

I'll start by saying my only Persona experience is watching playthroughs of P5R on twitch, so you can take what I say with a grain of salt. Also there are a few late game spoilers
||-Aketchi is a terrible person and doesn't deserve an ounce of sympathy or forgiveness and the Phantom Thieves let him off way to easily.||
||-I didn't like the final (pre-royal) palace/boss. After all the previous palaces having some personal connection, as well as being actual people, fighting god just felt like a cop-out because they needed to end the game with the thieves no longer having personas and couldn't think of a good way so they just said "fuck it, this is a jrpg, let's fight god"||
-Yusuke feels extremely aro/ace coded to me. (I also headcanon Futaba as aroace but I'm pretty sure that's mostly me projecting because she's my favorite character as opposed to having anything in game to support it)

Also, I gotta say, the fact that Atlus added the option to date Kawakami (your teacher in game, mind you, who is a legal adult), while the first major arc in the game involves a teacher who uses his power to assault female students really says a lot of things about the games writer.

(I have many more controversial opinions on Persona, but I'll save them for later)
