#Constructing a shared vision

I think it is time to start creating a shared vision for how we want this community to be. I invite you to imagine your vision, and share it with us, so we can start working on what we want to create together.
My suggestion:

Start by connecting to your personal motivation. How do you want to participate in this community? Why is this important to you? That will help you bring your personal wisdom in the collective pool.

Do a little imagination exercise about your ideal community. What is your vision for what you would like to see? How would you participate in it?

Share your ideas here, or, if you prefer, send them to me. I will try to be available often in the voice chats, but also feel free to reach out for a call, or with a personal message.

I see it as a place to engage with John's work with other people, whether that is discussing specific episodes of series (AFTMC,AS) or to do group book readings or group meditation

I do not see it as a place for people to bully, insult, tell people they are wrong or take over for their own purposes.

I imagine a kind and polite community, with room for well mannered and constructive discussion.

This would take strict moderation though and could be seen as biased against people who are naturally high in trait disagreeableness, but otherwise the constant arguments push out those of us who are conflict averse

some online communities choose to quarantine "controversial" (defined as causing intense disagreement) subjects to a restricted zone, and although this might seem to reduce the spill over into other areas it also concentrates and intensifies the drama

I see this place as an opportunity to grow wisdom individually and collectively and use psycho-technologies and understandable language for all wisdom seekers regardless of their direction in wisdom cultivation. Creating a better place to live for all different living beings.
I see this place as a starting point to take all the tools, knowledge (4P's), and people for action and improvement of ourselves, sharing, spreading our knowledge, and creating communities locally or online (as moderators or educators for moderators).
I see this place as growing with seeds of wisdom regardless of time or distance, through the usage of technology (sharing knowledge and creating online communities).
I see this place as an arena for us (agents) to integrate our Eros and Thanatos forces.
Individually, I would like to become a moderator of at least one of the psy-techs and share it with others in my local community.
Would be interesting to see the meld of psychotherapies in Science or another channel in here.

This is the vision I have so far: I want to create a community that, collectively, embodies the spirit of the sages described by John Vervaeke in the second episode of "After Socrates". To use a quote from there, I want a space where we can practice together, and, when we talk, we can have

conversations [...] in where you're asking each other questions and you're not giving pat answers. You're really opening up. The person's opening up and you're opening up. You're reciprocally opening and the conversation starts to take on a life of its own and it's not wandering aimlessly. It's wandering fruitfully and you both find you're getting to places and having insights, realizations that you couldn't have had on your own. When the conversation comes to an end you say that was one of the greatest moments of my life.

Where we can engage with each other with openness and kindness, with the understanding that real dialogos is difficult and needs practice. (John's "Dialectic into dialogos" is a 12h workshop!). That we are courageous to go beyond our comfort zone, but know when to stop, taking care of ourselves and each other. And having agency over the way in which we participate.

And a place where we can learn from our mistakes, with the understanding that humans are fallible and what we are trying to do is very very difficult. But it's worth it!

My vision much resembles Hank & John Green's "Nerdfighteria", which is one of the oldest and healthiest online communities that exist.

First and foremost, and IMO most importantly, I wish for this entire community to be built on friendship and fellowship.
I wish for it to take on a life of its own, aka self-organizing self-sustaining (aka autopoetic) and that that life brings us more to life as well.
I want this to be an online space that actually enhances our individual sense of connectedness and where I feel invigorated whenever I've participated.
I want this to be a space where we experience deep meaning.

I wish the community to be inspiring and supportive in developing ecologies of practices individually and collectively, where we can help each other navigate it and share our own experiences with it.

I hope that engaging in this community will create bleedover to the rest of our lives, like John with tai chi chuan, and make us more wise, kind, and increase our agency in daily life.

I totally love your reference to Nerdfighteria. I would add Rhett and Link's Mythical Beasts there too (as a dedicated one myself 😊 )

There are models for how to promote healthy online communities with minimal parasociality and maximal meaningful engagement. I worry that John is simply not internet-native enough to design and coordinate one himself, but many who support his work are, and just need the motivation to do so.

I like the concept of "stealing the culture". If we create a meaningful enough environment, people will stay and contribute with little persuasion. Only a small group of us need to be dedicated to maintaining the communitas at first, and it will grow organically. It seems like between the 10 or so of us who commented here, that's plenty to get something going.
