not a big deal bro
I think what they value is whether u could crack their OA
i go to MIT but like 2.3 gpa lol
da heck is DRW
good quant company
its like harder side of LC med
cringe
do uk what phone is like
Ig its more or less like google since its totally dependent on ur interviewer
I heard some ppl got OOD while some were just standard lc
last year
oh gotcha
skip OA this time
yep
yes
are you going target?
dont go to classes that arent worth in my opinion
just study on your own time
oh nice
Cool
Sweet
i go to target and my classes are made braindead, probably may not be situation with yours since yours is ivy+, so just take the dont go to classes advice with grain of salt
as you go through first few weeks youll get a sense of how to spend your time
exactly
yeah biggest thing is do whats best for you in terms of how you learn best
if its going to class then that has to be it
i personally like self studying / w/ textbooks
Gotcha
Whats MBB/IB?
Oh right yea, i just didnt know the MBB name for it
McKinsey is great
if you like consulting
yea same
thats my goal
incoming soph
as someone who switched from pursuing IB, it's in ur best interest to try deciding sooner than later what you enjoy more. You'll be less competitive on both fronts if you're trying to progress in 2 directions at once. Also, I have a 3.96 and i'm not sure what to really comment on in terms of tips, prior to landing ur industry roles school was my #1 focus. Going forward i expect gpa to decline bc my focus has shifted
@keen furnace ^
yeah this is fair
solid all around, just don't underestimate the power of time. Giving your all to a single thing is extremely powerful. At your current stage it makes sense, that's where I was at too. PM is an interesting intersection of them that consistently intrigues me. IB -> PE/VC exit likely might have an MBA in the mix. IB -> MBA -> PM is a pretty consistent pipeline. That said it's worth recognizing the skill level of software engineers you'd be competing with. You might be able to leverage IB/MBB to lateral back into SWE if that's ur interest, but you would definitely be much less technically skilled than others who've been spending that time as full time engineers. Likely a downgrade in pay (entering as lower level SWE) there too. Having dove into both skillsets, I think it's easier to perform well as SWE --> finance, but it's probably easier to land finance --> SWE (tons more swe roles as well)
IB roles is definitely a ton of networking. Your linkedin searching and networking calls should be just as consistent as ur leetcode if doing SWE. Treat it as an absolute necessity for landing a job and work on it constantly. It can be kinda weird at first and you may be hesitant but fuck that you'll just get a groove of it over time and it'll be second nature by then. If you go to an Ivy+ though your in much better shape than from a non-IB target.
You're very ahead of the curve tho and definitely thinking ab the right things, I got no doubt that you're gonna handle it no matter which one u choose
yeah competence isn't a worry for the IB interviews one good prep of the interview prep stuff and you're good, it's nowhere near as difficult
(i forget the name of the popular course(s))
been a while
wso was the forum
wall street prep
there we go
yup BIWS and WSP
throwback
~~IB courses in hs 💀 ~~
nice
feel free to pm whenever
IB not worth it imo
WLB in tech is truly unmatched -- i don't mind the insane hours if i felt like it was worth what i'm doing it for but imo it's not
SWE comp : wlb is wild
even in exit opps the constant grind doesn't really end
these years i don't mind the crazy grind - but family and freedom of my time is much more important to me than more & more money
it is
but imo there's a baseline where my happiness would be met
and tech would get me there, and i'd likely be healthier along the way lol
yeah
feel that
also if u really wanna go ham
u can totally work IB kinda hours in tech
have ur reg job
pick up a side gig
yeah lol
if u put in true IB hours in tech you'd surpass IB comp
It is
it's also less guaranteed
tech is very streamlined
and you can keep in mind the tech exit opps of startups
software doesn't have to be of insane scale like a startup either - but just good software ideas can easily be acquired for lower level millions
in the tech world a 10m acquisition is not much, in ur life a 10m acquisition is insane
makes sense i feel like that's typically the wave for ivy+ schools
i also know a lot ab biglaw used to think i'd do law
the trifecta of biglaw ib and tech lol
law is a wrap
not worth
YLS?
law schools aren't that competitive
idk i have a homegirl who got into Yale
for this admission cycle
went to USC
did nearly nothing all HS
but maintain high gpa in an easy major
and did well on the LSAt
LSAT*
like yeah i bet it is competitive don't wanna sell her short
but she def was not on some crazy grind to get there
strong competence is a big + for you for Law
my brother recently got a 99th percentile LSAT score and if you pair that w/ a high gpa it's ez admits everywhere
yeah nah law ain't really worth it
- kinda undermines ur entire undergrad years
time horizon is too long for law
loll PSAT
i don't remember mine
no SAT for ur cycle tho right?
care ab what
ah
we couldn't take an SAT
COVID fucked our SAT cycle
kept postponing
kinda chill never took one
lol that's op
nope
idc for quant either
it's also cool to give urself some time to explore
it's a bet on yourself
when deep in the grind, it's easy to handle everything thrown at you but few factor in the cost of not leaving yourself time to come up w/ any ideas
STEP
worth the try
FBU too
can send those ones out
explore seems cool i forgot ab that one
the intersection of pm + swe is nice
i had the same experience looking for it but i think they open later idk
it was kinda weird
big N freshman is hard, inflate ur grad date to soph at least if u really want a shot at it
dunno can't speak on it
but i call cap
bc companies aren't gonna know when ur starting
when u started***
u don't need to tell them ur graduating in less than 4
most companies don't ask for transcript
G is the only one
from big N
hm maybe for Meta U? idk ab Meta actually
but majority don't by far
very rare
i've submitted maybe ab 4-5 transcripts
gotta head out kinda swamped lol
i'll catch u around
fs, goodluck man
rooting for u
