Completely random, but usually if they have headcount for both then you're more likely to enter GTI if your performance is good

But why would you want GTI? ECI is 8 weeks of onboarding and then 9 months of rotations. Basically for the first year, you're risk free unless you're complete garbage

What is ECI (Early Career Immersion)? What is GTI (Google Tech Immersion)?
All new grads go through an onboarding bootcamp where they’re encouraged to learn Google tooling and processes. This was normally a 3 week bootcamp called GTI. This year, another pathway has been introduced called ECI that approximately one year long and has specific start dates (March, August). In ECI, you will complete 8 weeks of training followed by 9 months of two 4.5-month rotations. Afterwards (or during one of your rotations), you will permanently convert to a team. It does not seem possible to switch from ECI to GTI or vice versa. The decision to be placed in ECI vs. GTI is not based on interview performance, it is primarily based on background, experiences, and skillset.

Since your recruiter mentioned team matching, you're probably going to end up in GTI. Ask your recruiter and clarify which one you're being considered fo
