weird situation. i interviewed for seattle, and today i was told that they could offer me but i would need to decide by the end of the week. this was because they are crazy full and are only reaching out to candidates who expressed a lot of interest throughout the process (IE attended recruiting events and such).
i declined the offer as i have already signed with another company i prefer, but mentioned i would be interested in either pushing my offer to the spring of 2023 or entering the recruiting pipeline for new grad in a truncated interview process because i already passed this one.
what company you going to instead?
they could not push me to spring as under their rules i was ineligible to intern as a senior, but they were happy to agree to truncate me for new grad if i decided to give them a shot.
snap. i love AR and i think i am likely to be team matched to Spectacles which would be my dream tech (big on wearable stuff). Also my gf is likely to end up in LA or Austin and snap is the only company on my high target list which offers both locations.
it was one of 3 companies i set aside at the start of this year as my first choices so although stripe was tempting, i went with my gut on this one.
grats grats. both are awesome choices
thxs! i am very grateful for how things went this year.
what were the three companies?
I guess two companies besides snap
omg yay
summer snap?
that insane
palantir for counter-terrorism (i think their bar is crazy high and my entire family is military so its a unique way for me to carry on legacy) (made it to HM before rejection which is not atypical, the HM interview is very hard), waymo/aurora (exact same reasoning for both: high tier AV companies) (ghosted by both, but I did not have super relevant exp), and snap (offered) (i love AR and wearables and LA >> SF for me so it was an easy choice. should be super fun ☀️ 🏖️ )
yessir, santa monica ❤️
wow that's a really interesting list. It's cool that you seem to have a vision of exactly what you want to do and what you're interested in, and which companies align with those interests
niceee
i picked sf but i wonder if its going to change
id do anything for snap specs
gen 4 are so cool lol. my undergrad research prof/mentor was the tech lead on google glass and is one of the foremost wearable tech profs in the world, so he got me passionate about AR glasses and wearables in general
sure lol
nah i just make an active effort to surround myself by people who are wayyy smarter than me
ohhh are they eliminating ppl who didn't go to techfair or whatever
obv cannot say because I am not a recruiter but mine did mention that as a reason for why she was willing to offer me today so take that as you will. just because it was a reason I was offered does not mean it would be a reason to be rejected, but 🤷♂️
