#How did you negotiate?

Can I ask how you we're able to negotiate? Did you email vs call? Just straight up asked for more money or added different reasons? Mentioned specific numbers? Schedule multiple calls?

#

or did you straight up only mentioned how there were offers of 200k in this discord and that you would sign if they could make it happen

You never really say "I have X, Y and Z companies that I'm interviewing for. If you boost me to 200k, I'll abandon them for you"

#

It's really just weaving your way around the call

#

They'll run down the composite package with you. Base, performance bonus, PTO and everything

#

Hear it all out, be really excited. Mention how you really enjoyed your interview experience and how you really like the company

#

After they're done, they'll ask you "What do you think?"

#

That's when you don't bite and mention the package itself.

#

Refer back to what you said before "Well first and foremost, I want to reiterate again how much I'm super excited to be offered a position at X company. I'm actually in the final steps for Y and Z but I specifically love X because of this and that reason."

#

Then kind of cycle back into the reasons you have that can boost the offer

#

It doesn't need to be super tangible like an offer

#

It can be simply as an "investment in you and the company"

#

Also, they will 100% of the time lowball you initially. Don't be like me and accept in the first bout of negotiations. Just try to leave the call as open as possible without mentioning numbers or any specifics -- the only thing you want out of that call is to come across as excited, that you know what you're talking about and hopefully an extension to the offer deadline

#

With that, you can either take your battle via call or email. That's when you wait out until you can either get offers or not. Even if you don't, they're biding their time waiting for you to respond.

#

They've spent 30k+ trying to hire you so they WANT you.

white owl

white owl

flint scroll
#

trying to follow this guy

white owl
#

yeah that's cool you should be able to get a solid chunk extra then

#

what yogi said is true they want you to work there so as long as you go in with a grateful attitude don't worry about offending anyone and shoot high

flint scroll
#

im very blurry on whether to mention my amazon return details or just keep it hidden (i've heard ppl go both ways)

white owl
#

i think eventually if the recruiter asks you point blank you kind of have to show your hand but yeah i'd keep it blurry

#

if you can

#

it's sort of a last resort sort of thing

flint scroll
#

gotcha what would i say if the recruiter asks in the first call? I'm fine with revealing it later in final pushes but not sure how I would respond to keep it a secret at the beginning

white owl
#

if they ask you straight up not much you can do

#

but if you'd be happy with them merely beating your amazon offer as it stands now it shouldn't matter much
