ok, here's my full timeline:
thurs 9/23: decline
friday 9/24: get/submit survey
monday 9/27: portal updated with NYC application
tuesday 9/28: offer letter
it seems they tend to send the surveys out on friday
if you want seattle
Oh that's actually really helpful! Thank you!
you're like 99% gonna get it
I know, I know, but the 0.0001% chance freaks me out
Just wanted to get an idea of whether they keep you waiting for weeks
there's people still declining seattle to try to switch to nyc lmao
which has way less hc
i do get you tho, it is stressful having the return offer disappear for a bit for sure
but rn the waitlist is flying
yeah for me
weds 9/15: decline
friday 9/17: get/submit survey
weds 9/22: portal updated for Los Angeles
thurs 9/23: offer
That is true yeah. My offer is for the Bay Area actually but Seattle would be way better for me
because the original deadline is tomorrow
if you want seattle you're gonna get it
lol
other locations are iffier and even then we've been getting them
but seattle is basically guaranteed
yeah everyone's been getting 1st choice so far
and yeah seattle there's always openings
yup someone got Atlanta in less than a week and that's a tiny office
In case anyone happens to see this later and the info is useful to them - I never got the location survey for some reason, so I emailed them and they basically said "oops our bad here's a Seattle offer". So everything worked out in the end!
Do you guys know if this applies to interns as well
Wait so they ask you where you'd like to be placed in the US? And typically they give it to you or?
not for your first offer
if you get a return offer (intern or FT) you can choose to decline it and get a location survey
and then get placed on waitlist for those locations
R u sure this is only for returns and not first time offers as well?
I really want a diff location but I don't want to decline and then not get another offer
i'm fairly certain there isn't a way to change location for first time offers, although it might've changed idk
when i got my intern offer there was no way to change location
Isn't it the same process
U decline the offer, they send u a survey
U select a new location, they send u a new offer for that location if available. Not sure
i'm pretty sure that's only for return offers
(Seeing this really late, sorry) Just to add to this, mine was a first time offer and when I asked about changing location I was told to do the whole declining offer thing
It’s possible they gave me the wrong info though, because I didn’t get the survey that other people did after
But emailing them seemed to fix the whole thing
interesting
which location did you get?
ah in Canada so wanted Toronto, got Toronto
ah grats, i unfortunately don't know the sizes of the CA offices but nice
yeah there's quite a few, not as many as states obviously but ya
i know of vancouver and toronto (in terms of offices) that's about it lol
There's Montreal, Winnipeg, Ottawa, a few others as well apparently idk how big but they exist
i think toronto and vancouver are the biggest ones if i had to guess
most likely ya
Ottawa is the 3rd biggest, Montreal is news to me - there's someone in the Amazon discord who's been trying to get remote so he can work in Montreal and it's been an L so far
but Vancouver is like 6-8k people, Toronto has a couple thousand, and then Ottawa is like a couple hundred
damn so largest canada location is like the 5th largest us location
idk what the 5th biggest is but I know Irvine is like ~3k devs and LA is a bit smaller but probably similar to Toronto
oh wait i'm dumb, i was thinking in terms of open jobs instead of active employees lol
I figured toronto office would be small from what I hear its a few different buildings not sure though
