#IBM VS Vanguard

I really don’t know 😠cause the role sounds super interesting at vanguard
I am interested in data science for quant firms or ml infra so I’m leaning vanguard but idk if can pass resume screening with it
you definitely can
its a good enough name in the us i feel
not as big as vanguard but i feel it pays off due to it being qr
i mean not as big as ibm*
Hmm ya I got some time but we’ll see cause my priorities
Passing resume screening > work > location
Vanguard location and work are better but if ibm will pass more screens then yk
Thank you
Bumping just wanna see any other takes pls
Vanguard
IBM
If goal is FAANG or FAANG+ then go with the name. QR role at a firm most people have never heard before won’t set you up for those companies
ML infra may be a bit different idk lowkey. I don’t think quant firms have data scientists, usually just SWE’s and Dev’s / researchers
I could be wrong tho 🤨
its at https://investor.vanguard.com/ are they really that loweky ðŸ˜
two sigma has and a couple other smaller firms do but ya most are SWE and Dev, I had a coffe chat with someone from my school who does DS for two sigma and they lowkey were hyping the role up hella
vanguard is really a household name to anyone that actually has any knowledge on investing or financial markets in general
its ogod
No sorry haha not lowkey in terms of like no one knows what it is. I meant in terms of recruiters from like 2s, they’re not gonna treat it any differently than like Fidelity or JPMC, it all falls under general lower signal portfolio and asset management
That’s entirely my fault
I think ultimately you have to see what direction you’re tryna go in. Like data science roles in general are geared towards MS/PhD, plus they don’t seem to be very prevalent in quant firms. However I’m sure quant research at vanguard appeals to these roles a lot more than IBM For sure, so you gotta see if you wanna take a bit of a risk. Alternatively for FAANG+ SWE roles IBM SWE is obv a lot better of a signal, the skills directly transfer over.
yaa I get that that makes a ton of sense thank you
thank you, il prob think about this over the weekend lowkey stumped but what you are saying makes sense
do u think vanguard would help with tryna go into fintech SWE or work in fintech in general?
or if i wanna do SWE at all IBM might be better cause it transfers better
For general SWE, IBM is better here overall. Bigger name and more transferrable skills
Idk about fintech, but generally speaking fintech swe and general swe aren't too different until you start entering HFT/Quant firm territory
For ex. IBM SWE vs Capital One SWE vs Visa SWE vs Blackrock SWE are all interchangable in terms of skillset, prestige, and what previous experience they're looking for, even thought 3/4 are fintech
Yeah it seems like you just gotta see what direction you wanna go in you know? Like roll the dice and go all in on quant vs. hedge your bets and try and ensure SWE is taken care of, quant is a reach. In any case this is a great thing to be stumped over, so congrats!!!! You officially made it
ahaha ya maybe I just flip a coin an decide LOL
if u want to do ML/data go vanguard qr
if u want to be a crud swe go ibm
💀 we have
ya I really dont wanna do that
are u larping as a girl to get alpha?
