ok boys. Rate my chances of getting in heres my interview:

PART 1

2 interviewers. First was with a normal engineer. Behavioral was good — I answered in STAR format, and for one question she literally said “that’s a good answer, that’s exactly how we do it at Amazon.”

Coding was a bit rough. The problem was a STREAM of strings → split into trigrams → support queries. I explained my solution, then she kept adding requirements. First: check if a specific trigram exists → I said hashmap. She asked “why?” so I explained time complexity. Then she pushed deeper: “do you know why?” → I explained hash functions, indices, collisions, separate chaining, probing, etc. She said correct and moved on.

Then she asked: what about top K most frequent trigrams? I immediately said max heap since it’s a stream (better than sorting), and she agreed.

Finally she let me code. I got through most of it but didn’t fully finish — didn’t implement the frequency/heap part. But I explained it clearly, mapped out the class, and the core logic looked correct. I asked if it looked good, she said “good, you tell me.” I said I think it’s good and asked about the remaining parts — she said it’s fine if I don’t implement those.

PART 2

Second interview was basically picture perfect. This was with a manager. I immediately recognized the problem and he let me code — I implemented it quickly and cleanly.

I actually found an EDGE CASE myself while testing. I walked through it, and it created a tie between two answers. He said that was a good segue and asked how to modify the solution to return all longest substrings. I immediately suggested a hashmap approach and he agreed.

Behavioral went really well too. They were super engaged in my robotics stories — it covered technical depth, customer obsession, and ownership. They were reacting in real time like “ohhh nooo” / “wait what” — seemed genuinely invested and emotionally engaged in the story.
