#AWS RO vs Startup

startup if current val is < 500k
“lots of cracked ex faang” no way it’s only worth 500k
ik
equity could be worth a lot is funny
also what startup has a val that low. maybe 20 years ago
Startup val is like 300 mill lol
what kind of growth are you expecting from 10k equity? (srs)
the work sounds much cooler but i wouldn't do it for the comp
Yeah tbh the growth from equity itself isn’t really a driving factor (maybe like 4x-5x at best), mainly just looking at what I’d be learning and where either option takes my career
when you say infra sw for vehicles does it relate to avs?
ye they have some av customers
Amazon NYC is pretty goated. U should just go for Amazon
amazon. if this startup is truely something you have faith in, you wouldn't ask this question. so the answer is very clear
that is horrible logic wtf
AWS
10k equity is nothign
company worth 300 million
they r hosing u
agreed
you alrdy have AWS on resume
vehicle infra is interesting imo
could be worth giving it a go
amazon's having 2 more layoffs anyway
Wait is this like rumor or confirmed?
someone's L8 said so
i would say it's confirmed
i can see why others would take it as a rumor
o dang, do you know what orgs?
i think SDEs and BIEs are primarily affected
yea not 70k interesting
bro they have 2 more layoffs inbound
could just view it as a +140k
does anyone have another source other than Poly saying it in the Amazon server?
it's not like we'd have direct contacts with an L8
why would his information be invalid
I feel like Poly said it and the rest of us just ran with it. not to discredit you or him or anyone
ye but Poly heard it from his manager who heard it from his L8
if that's not credible, idk what is
yeah that's what I heard as well. But it's anonymous at the end of the day. I feel like Poly isn't the type of person to do that but still there is no standard he has to hold himself to because it's all anon
but this is just cope
just curious if anyone else had some tea on the situation
i understand where you're coming from
but from my POV, i'm not sure if there's an appropriate response
beyond just looking to get out of amazon
i suppose 1 possible outcome is that another l8 says that it's org specific
but ye idk, i'd just start preparing to leave amazon
that company is going to die
lol I'm not returning to Amazon. I'm just curious if he had anyone else's opinion because I see people cite it a lot but it's always poly 💀
i see
i dont think so prob
just hard to access an L8 unless you're an L7
or above L8
that's fair. in his case it was through his manager which I assume is L6 or L7
ye but i think almost every other org is L6 that reports to L7 that reports to L8
his case i think is rare
so I can't even ask my L5 mentor to ask my L6 because my L6 answers to an L7 and not an L8
ye
u laid off 30k
crazy to lay off more
amazon is going to shit
dogshit leadership at Amazon
well I wouldn't be suprised if they did or didn't. Looking at the trajectory of Amazon's Rev/Employee, after the 30k, I'd assume they'll be close to pre-covid levels. At the same time, with all tech companies, including Amazon's competitors investing further in the AI race, I wouldn't be surprised if they laid more people off.
