OpenAI
not entirely there may be things im unaware abt w oai
Meta cuz u hit L6 in 3 years!!!!
meta
depends how optimistic u are about OpenAI's future since they are in trenches rn
He can always just hop not like the name is gonna stop him from landing future opportunities
Def but same can be said about having meta on resume
Just a matter of how much stability u want after joining
hm i do value stability esp bc i’d be on a visa
i think current valuation is ok but their ipo targets seem very high
although stability at meta esp under RL seems pretty bad too it’s just in the form of layoffs/budget cuts rather than the entire company’s finances
does openai offer visa support?
yes both do for tn visa at least
oh immigration doesn't matter then
this isnt like a super big concern tho i’d just have to go back to canada while job hunting. stability def lower than other priorities
ur candian not on h1b
just a pain to deal w
tbh biggest concerns w openai are from the amount of unknown variables bc idk a single person who works there. only been able to talk to ppl w offers who like me would be going off what recruiters say
only sources for info on OAI i have are my recruiter who will say whatever to get me to sign and blind which says you'll get fired in sub 6 months without warning 💀 💀
is it like bad because you need to output a lot or bad because of social pressure/political reasons. if it's the former i don't mind as much.
also regarding ppl getting straight up fired is it actually true or is it just ppl dooming on blind like always.
also are promotion timelines accurate from recruiters, mine told me 6-8 months avg l2->l3
your first question depends on the team and your level. id say as a new grad, it's more because there's pressure to perform because everyone around you is working very hard. people do get disappeared somewhat randomly yes but they're trying to improve culture and perf reviews so that it's more transparent.
and as a new grad, idt you'll get fired
that promo timeline seems about right. again depends on the team and manager a lot
gotcha tyty that's rlly helpful to know
how did team match work btw, recruiter was saying i'd fill out a form then interview iwht a few managers
which could help for selecting a team i like
i didn't go thru regular tm so idrk 😅
icic nw
i think mine is only diff bc i'd be starting outside of regular summer grad summer cohorts
do u mind if i dm
sure

holy shit asorn congrats : D
tyty ❤️
noice noice :0
granted all of the people I've talked to recently that interend at meta apparently all hated it
that was the common experience LOL
i actually really enjoyed it
but very team dependent
LMAOOO 😭
the 14 meta votes need to be banned
i think this kinda came down to my team being mostly long tenure and still having what meta used to be in the teams culture and they had joined oculus/RL when it was just starting out
so at the individual day-to-day level things were great
but meta at the org level and company level consistently has been choosing to make the most sub-optimal decisions for employee well-being since 2022
does openai have regular liquidity events
i've heard yearly tenders for PPU but i haven't been able to get a full answer from the recruiter
there's ipo rumours anyways so idm too much
Not that u need it with 170k base in Seattle lol
yea
didn’t know oai had Seattle too
that's why i mentioned PPUs specifically
dk much for RSUs
more people doomed to pnw
u can choose sf idt they're limited with hc
o
ohmmmmmmmm icic
org-wise it sounded extremely chaotic
like both a ton of people being hired and also fired at the same time which is 😭
yea
i think meta uses an approach of inducing fear in employees to squeeze more output which is why ppl get hired while others are being fired
instead of just like
treating them better 😭
OpenAI nyc is a thing????
