be as blunt as you can. realistically what are the odds of getting an interview at faang companies for summer'26 internships (considering 2 situations with and without a referral)? i know im competing with cracked people at tier 1 universities.
also i'd appreciate if you can offer any tips. im aware of how fucked the market is, i need a reality check.
#2nd year student at tier 3 university trying for summer'26 internships

here's the reality:
- peak faang recruiting is september to november
- only amazon reliably hires non-juniors (3rd year students)
- international student much harder bc of visa costs and unknown university names
- most faang internships require 1+ prev software engineer internship, most applicants have 2-3 prev swe internships
You have a great resume, but there are some things I listed above that are just outside of your control. I'd say try to find a med-tier or startup internship for this summer, try to do an interesting substantive project through that internship this summer, and grind leetcode super hard in preparation for you junior summer which is most important. In other words, you still have a few more chances at this so it's great you're asking these questions now. Best of luck.
In terms of resume advice:
- Try to include more technical skills (e.g. Python, React, Docker, etc. whatever) in your bullet points more
- Try to focus on projects and experiences lasting a few months or longer, I think you only need three 3-monthlong projects
I think you could have a separate extracurriculars section ("Leadership and Activities") instead of putting it under Education because you have a lot there that feels squeezed for space right now
I’d say go for quality over quantity with projects. Instead of the “other projects” section, you could use it to talk about your leadership experience or smth.
And include relevant courses (not just independent) under education.
oh wow posted here not expecting much, tysm for the help!!
thought of that but I got mixed feedback for doing that
