2 NG offers

IBM - Austin ~185 / 170, c++ . Team is protected from layoffs, culture is good, and work is interesting. A fair amount of autonomy.
C1 (TDP) - Richmond ~150 / 125, team unknown. Going to try to hardball for NY location (hypo) w/ IBM's offer. Has anyone done this successfully? Don't see a reason to keep this offer otherwise.

My long term goal is to move to a flagship product team in big tech (e.g. S3 for AWS). For now, I'd like to cap work to max ~ 50 hr weeks, but prioritize career growth otherwise.

C1 is better brand wise.....IBM has a weird image in the industry. Its mostly a mainframe era company. Regardless of what work you do, that brand name matters because that's what a lot of recruiters look at and IBM brand name is sus

That was on my mind as well, but ultimately pros outweighed cons.

Do you know at what level applying to specialized teams is the norm rather than a general pipeline (eg google ads versus general google pipeline)? Or is it not standardized across big tech? Bc at that point I can avoid this problem, at least with recruiters.
