#wtf do i do
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
i'm a junior its over
trying to get into swe/ml
"just do research" the professors ghost me
i'm shit at thinking of good ideas for projects, so i can't even further my programming skills outside class
ik i need to know cloud shit but is a certification enough im genuinely lost
matters for research esp if you have no relevant exp
This world is small maen
i got humana so maybe not
but i'm trying to lock in fr
3
i meant in terms of getting into aiml
swe bar is not that high
wdym
like being able to conduct research as undergrad/master?
getting into research as someone inexperienced
This is where im a little more like how come? What do you feel limits you?
yeah but would it matter for like undergraduate research assisting
it doesnt seem like they care
that's something i'm trying to do at the very least
idk about ucf specifically
typically to get into research though profs like to see high gpa
In my experience here at ucf professors care when youre there
You go and talk to them
Seem interested in their stuff
Not what they have to offer
Ik its a lot easier said than done
But thats just what ive noticed here
you seem gmi
I managed help get my girl a ml research position as a bio major like trusssss
U just gotta yap
i'm just not good at coming up w project ideas idk, that parking one i lowkey just got lucky and thought of it out of nowhere
but even that one doesn't have that big of a scope it's just limited to ucf and it's pretty basic
"wow he saved data from an api and predicted what's gonna happen 🤯"
What do you like to do?
Like genuinely outside of school and all of this
What do you enjoy
ok for actual resume shit: resume just reads extremely weak as a whole. no gpa listed, projects are extremely basic, 2 hackathons without any wins, this mentee experience thing just reads extremely ngmi, skills section is extremely basic and underwhelming
need to rewrite everything imo
lowkey nothing tbh like i'm not super passionate about anything
if it had to be something history & linguistics lol
ok, how?
Yo chill bru
Theres better ways to say stuff
💀
like what i have on my resume is the best i have unironically
i only started doing shit as a junior which i am rn
i don't think rewriting it is going to change much
what i actually need is to learn more about programming/development in general and somehow implement that in an impressive project
which i think the parking one does to some extent so it's getting better
first
imo you need to ground yourself bru
dont get into this whole "NGMI" bs
your life is yours take it a step at a time you're caring about it which is already more than most
i am grounded dw
you def gotta work on your projects section the most
like i do believe i have a chance
-
replace projects. you can find better ones just by googling/browsing resume section. i would encourage you to drop all of them other than the parking one.
-
reword the hackathon prep exp in a way that sounds like you did something rather than just passively got mentored (reads kinda like "i got tutored")
-
replace skills with the new ones you get from projects. you can see what a good one looks like from many of the resumes here
your experience cant be developed well without your projects and what you need is a project/projects like raymond said that are novel and help in some way
so copy other projects basically?
but learn how to do it on my own
reword the hackathon prep exp in a way that sounds like you did something rather than just passively got mentored (reads kinda like "i got tutored")
this i agree with just cap if u need to
replace skills with the new ones you get from projects. you can see what a good one looks like from many of the resumes here
agreed
no
also why would i replace skills
shouldn't i just add onto them
a lot of those skills are vital
i think they're fine just remove git github vs code
Would recommend having metrics for projects
moreso meaning like the tech stack used in other projects, scope, level of complexity, maybe general use case
those are a given most of the time
agreed
@prisma coral
yk whats a cool project idea
what metrics bro 😭
i haven't made an impact for me to be having numbers on there
ngl a cool project would be to build a full-stack web app that’s basically an interactive world map for history. Click on a country or region and it shows major events, timelines, and summaries pulled from a small backend database. It’s clean, visual, fits your interests, and it scales as big or small as you want ngl
you can host it on a vps
exposes you to new stuff
and then past that you have a vps for future projects
mehhhhhh
like 80% are true
As for project ideas, look for things u enjoy doing ex. maybe you like sports betting so you make a basketball prediction program using player data, u can then say you predicted to X accuracy
but def i havent seen something like this
and i feel like if u like history it would be cool
you get db exposure full stack and vps set up
and hosted for people to use
yeah i see what u mean
Should try and avoid random project topics - if you work on stuff you like it will be more enjoyable and you will know more about it if you need to talk through it in an interview
^
you can def tell when someone cares about a project and is passionate to "oh i just did this it was cool"
ai/ml has a lot of like biomedical projects
yupppp
i can tell you that i do NOT care about bio or med
use kaggle or something
my beloved
thats fine bru ngl
what can i say brah
i like ur idea tho i might do something along those lines
yus twin trust
ts would be peak
i can help u with the VPS set up
its not that bad using OVH cloud and coolify
using T3 as a tech stack here would be fire
but idgi why vps whatever that is over regular hosting
its cheaper long term and you can eventually host all of your apps in there
past that "regular hosting" a back end and db is a pain in the ass sometimes for security
so a VPS is as close to a rack you can get to in your room without having it ngl
makes sense
yus twin yus
and why this
i never get why certain frameworks and libraries languages whatever r used
like i have an idea
nextjs is for routing i think and typescript is just better javascript
tailwind is styling
but i think nextjs is more than that
there's always more bruh 😭
u can do it in whatever u want
but these tech stacks apply to a lot of the infra companies use
yeah
knight hacks mono repo forge is a direct translation into a lot of the shit u do in swe internships
like i could code in html css and js then have json for the db
but i would severely incapacitate my learning doing that yk
would be a big ass break for me if i got into dev team when it opens up next time fr 💔
i just need to be told what to do and i'll learn how to do it
and i get to put on resume
i like to think as ideas as something simple them overcomplicate them to learn
yeah u lowkey just gotta have a unique application
yeah igwym
i learned a bit more css so maybe better luck this time
bet
how did u get into the unary lab one
if you ever need to talk about any of this remember we here
i rolled deep in his office
and was like WASSAAAA
i need this speed
ima do the same thing 😛
yeah do it
i know some gwc people got into it
like 2-3 people
i was doing good work there
thanks man
bet
before u go to these profs
read their papers pls
and if u dont know how to read a paper
actually
read this
ohh igu
am i supposed to glaze them when i pu
yoo i read ur paper nice work on cnns
no just seem curious
glaze != curiosity
compliment them about their work once and then ask questions
alr
at the end thank them and then if you could schedule a time to discuss an opportunity to learn from them
i appreciate the help fr
yeah dude ofc
i've been in ur shoes and so have a lot of other people
we here for u twin
oh shoot
so u talk to them like once or twice before asking to help out?
ye
just treat them like people is what im saying
never see people as a means to get something
that mentality will cook u
they work on their stuff cuz they care about it if you go in there and u genuinely think its cool they'll be able to tell
easiest way to get in is have some sort of project going semi-related to their research/topic they're teaching and ask for help once you have something relatively good
this works better for hardware-adjacent or aiml related
i doubt this will happen tbh
i have gotten into like 4 separate labs this way
i believe u bro 😭
i’m not doubting the approach
but that’s prob more long term bc i need to focus on swe projects rn
don't u have humana
u got this
and urs
it is
seeing that interview email gave me a high its crazy
at least its not sales
ts worse
HI
too much yap in this chat
you're gonna make it
you're in a good place
dont stress
focus on building experiences whether that b e through research or making projects yourself
telling yourself ur ngmi will make it come true
ask adrian and i lmfao
focus on building stronger projects
atm you seem to have smaller projects
crank out something big
you got this twin
feel free to dm :)
^ anyone not js u
carlos real ya
yaya
ik a research lab
that is decently easy to get into
feel free to dm and i gotchu
^^ if ur not a ucf student pls do not dm me
LMFAO
but ik mehdi is
@prisma coral ^^^^
thank u man fr i appreciate everything
ofc
definitely will
Heads up and honestly your projects are very solid. They can definitely hit the keywords and get a good score from the ATS.
However, I feel if I am an HR, I am looking forward more about the "Actual" usage of your projects like what the problem your projects are solving/ your efforts to make your projects works while keep it maintainable and robust/scalability and flexibility -- you might to pick one or two project depends on the job description to add more detailed description.
@prisma coral wanna connect on linkedin? it’s https://linkedin.com/in/aaronamano
i’m also in the middle of gmi and ngmi
Igu
Appreciate the feedback!
Dude you go to UCF that’s so fucking cool
It isn’t over yet bro
You still got this
do companies even care
how 😭
i can replace w best buy lol
Dude it’s fucking UCF they have amazing shit
i have never heard this
Dude ucf is the best cyber security school in America bro it was my first choice
No it’s too expensive
And I’m out of state as well so I’d be fried
USF looks nice to but ion care about that
Compared to ucf yeah
This is why community college clears 🤦♂️
i don't think that
it's just not that nationally prestigious
fr?
i would have white space
i didnt know it was allat
Dude it is
They are generational bro
I wish I could compete for them in CDDC and other comps they do cus the aura they got
in cyber security if you wanna succeed you go to UCF
oh for sure
i was considering it a few months ago but turned out i just dont like cyber
You're a 2nd year student?
Exactly bro hype up your uni bro!
Here I'm thinking in my 2nd year, my life is over, can you suggest anything to me, doing B.tech CSE AI ML, learning thoroughly c and java, have experience in nothing.
projects & research will be ur best friend
Dude you are in your 2nd year why give up so easily
whatever role you want to work as, look at the requirements for language and tech stack and make projects with those
if you learn too much and never do anything you won't be able to prove anything
I’m heading to Panda Express give me a sec to explain
I'm not giving up, however, I want to direct my direction.
Yes, I see.
Personal projects, open source contributions, internships and hackathons, am I right?
exactly
and apply very early to job postings
Yes and be sure to understand stuff to bro
Are you in the USA?
No.
Alright that’s a good start
I'll keep that in my mind.
At least your market won’t be over saturated
I live in India.
💀😭 everyone is cracked there bro
Do you go to IIT?
How do I perceive this? as in a bad way or good?
No good bro!
I wanna be like them
Doing their online course of Major in Artificial Intelligence, however attending another university at the same time.
Oh nice!
You seem more talented than me hahaha
Depends on the practice, that's where I'm lacking in, will force my way into it.
Yes don’t worry the best part in life is you have this thing called time! Keep grinding bro!
Indeed.
bro wrote generated 8000$ in sales in kitchen cutlery 😭
incorporate a buisness, build out 3 production large scale apps, list the buisnes on linkedin and in ur resume as experience as self employed
with the apps u build as client projects
my friends got a atlassan internship and his resume was just self employed, club position, winning two hackathons
he prob networked alot
that or white space
so just build websites for unknown landscaping businesses
im just going to milk the parking one and see what happens
it's a solid full stack app & pipeline
i guess u can leave it but i would take out anything not related to tech or your skills like teamwork or whatever
just say sales not cutlery
so making something useful, getting people to use it and putting random stats
that’s what i’m trying to do rn but i don’t know how i can replicate this
basically
also i’m more than likely going to do research, probably in simulation/unity & c# so i won’t need like 20 projects
me too
maybe 1-2, some hackathons and club involvement
oh i thought this was urs lmfao
i couldnt get half the words there
masters expensive
might have to do this or delay grad i just got rejected by my only proc 💔
humana rej?
is a late lock in really that rare
quite common
br
outside t20 late lockins are prob common asf
@waxen turret any offers?
just delay by a semester
tuff
delay semester become underwater soap plate technician at mac donalds
wth 😭
i locked in right in the middle
was interviewer hot
2 yrs left
ME TOO
i should b good if i grind
oh wait u have 2 years left?
SAME TWIN
ur good then
i got less than you in stats but we can make it twin
damn bro
lmfaoo
😭
bro do some shit for ur school
its holidays
no i mean
i locked in after the semester ended for some reason
like a startup?
no as a project
like for my school everyone hates the parking theres not enough spaces
true
so im making a website that predicts it
then i gotta go outside and talk to people
yik yak is ios only 😭 and most likely america mainly
my shit ahh uni
nobody gaf abt anything
i got hella ideas tho
from the resumes here
android in 2025…
yeah it might be over
oh ur not in the us??
he aint american bru chill
where r u from
im ex apple
gday mate
thats australia
same shit
we say baaa
wtf
lowkey it must be tough out there bc in the us there’s kind of like a known meta i think
if u go anywhere else its kinda free for al
maybe im wrong
yes
but its kinda ez to get fanng internships
here
cause 90% of studnets here dont gaf
whats up i just opened a random channel
wassup
nm
damn that’s free
where
this one
0 iq convo
what do you do are you trying to work on your resume or something
idk anything about swe tbh the only thing ik how to do is research
such life
u wanna see sum crazy
this resume got a faang
thats how low the bar is here
his top experience was literally a company he created bruh
ui eng
i mean it works
so orz
its what like 100 bucks to create a company. thats if you do it officially
this is a first yr resume in the states
its a big tech level final year in new zealand 😭
is that bc nz is small
yh i did it
120 bucks
nice
yes
depends on which org structure you choose but generally same. its all claude-able
did u make one
r u grad
yea. i mean im not in school i graduated
you got it
make it better
idk how cs student resume market works. everyone says make it look like jake's resume but ive seen random ass other resumes succeed well. but in different sectors
i feel like surely the personal projects tech ceiling must have gone up like crazy though now that you can vibe code a lot of things
yh
but some projects u cant easily vibe code
unclear if those offer any actual competitive advantage over those that can be easily vibecoded
depends how u write it i guess
like making a vibe coded app scalabe using amazon
u cant vibe code that
what research do u do
why use amazon though lol
you should just proxy scalability
type shit
ml. like optimizer theory, some interpretability, some rl
u cant easily vibe code allat right
you need to know what you want to do
thats how it is in all contexts
claude code prevents being bottlenecked by implementation details
i thought vibe coding is not know any concepts just prompoting based on what u see visually
yea. research involves many iteration and feedback loops
just vibes, not a braincell working
so you vibe some stuff. look at it visually. then iterate
i see
occasionally copy the repo and ask for a refactor
theres probably a smarter way to do that but idk how to use git
🤣
nah for research theres actually a super high skill ceiling for vibe coding since the more you lean into the vibes the more your brain rots in ways actively detrimental for said research
learning to be economical with your human brain engagement
actually idk im sure it's the same way in normal development
esp when vibe coding in prod
lmaoo
yeah cant vibe too much
your skill rating is how many claude pro subs you need. im still on a single stripe rn 🥀 might need a 2nd soon though
Why is your name woogskibiditoilet
w name
