#Palantir vs Bloomberg
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
There’s 0 work at Palantir that would be relevant to any quant work and they’re a big Java shop with minimal C++ which is a massive negative for quant as they all ask in depth C++ and OS trivia.
Bloomberg is great if you want good industry C++ experience and gain domain specific knowledge like FIX messaging, both of which are helpful to have for quant recruiting contrary to what many think. As a temporary place to stay for 2-3 years before job hopping Bloomberg is better for quant imo and that’s not even considering the moral implications of working at Palantir
If Palantir had quality c++ work i would lean towards them but they don’t. I would think vast majority of big tech engineers getting into quant firms all worked on C++ teams at their old companies
And maybe Python, but less common as most quant dev work is C++
bb cuz pltr stock overvalued
lol
swe or fdse?
pltr
and which team in pltr? if you think the team is not moral go for bb
then uk where you want to go lol
are you just making sure you're not making a mistake choosing bb?
Palantir easily
Yeah Palantir is dogshit for quant
Huge Java shop
Not doing alot of embedded or low latency work
Just go bb seems like u like that work anyway
If u want more financial related or jump to quant
In defense it is low latency work right?
Depends
Palantir is just ontology software (orm on steroids) so there’s not much low level work being done
Lots of low level work at a company like Anduril which has a custom Os for defense or robotics/embedded work
Palantir is better for quant
Its not
BB is a guaranteed pipeline
Citadel and other quants have bb specific recruiters
Bloomberg
why lol hes right that pltr has no c++ lol
nego bloomberg they give u sign-on if u have a competing offer i think
bb comp should match palantir after that
and yeah def go bloomberg
problem is palantir sentiment is rock bottom rn
i genuinely think it could be negative res value for some companies
prolly not to quant shops but ye lol
yeah agreed bb better for quant anyways tho
both companies would land you a quant interview at most places tbh
and i'd argue both places are very different from HFT firms so maybe don't overindex on language + presumed domain proximity
both are great offers that set you up for success, i'd just go with whatever excites you more. most people here have no idea what they're talking about
Low latency c++ Bloomberg orz quant finance
How did palantir prestige drop this fast
Their hiring proc is still nuts
And the company is still doing very well
ice and gaza
most recruiters are v liberal u know
yeah fs
i mean palantir is a def still a good name in tech
i think it's chill for a lotta companies
but could be bad signal for others
depends on ur goals
if u wanna stick in deftech or do startups palantir makes sense
if you care about exit opps in tech/ml labs then it doesn't make sense
Ik libs hate it but I wonder if it genuinely affects people from getting proc at companies
i think at the very big centralized companies no
like amazon/meta/goog
smthn like netflix or companies that do team-based recruiting i think it's v possible
Prestige hasn’t changed?
Still FAANG+
It won’t. The Palantir name is one of the strongest in tech
Just like how working at Tesla, SpaceX won’t harm your brand in tech
Other companies would be more than happy to poach palantir's talent
Yup
tesla/spacex are quite different
the sentiment there is around the ceo not what they actually do
Still
A very big name
FAANG+
Its just overvalued and progression is non existent
Which are what hold it back
non-existant progression is a massive knock no?
not sure if u can call it faang+ considering that
why would anyone take palantir over faang ng
Palantir is arguably better than Zon and maybe Apple
If you like the work then go for it
I really need to drop my tier list
See I thought palantir used to be like tier 1 unicorn
Now I never see it winning polls anymore
yeah I'm surprised people would take faang ng over palantir
the hate is overblown and the company is misunderstood. they're a data integration company
I don’t think it’s that surprising. Google/Meta/Flix are def better than Palantir
what makes you say that?
in terms of ""prestige"" i guess. but in terms of actual engineering, palantir would likely be more challenging and exciting. of course, that's team and org dependent
Meta..
Google and Netflix for sure, think meta might be a debate
Palantir is a fast-paced company, but so are many startups that people wouldn’t choose over FAANG. Most of these people on these threads’ opinions are based on prestige/res value which is arguably the most important factor you should maximize the most in internships/early career. Besides, most of the Google/Meta/and Flix pay more than Palantir.
i disagree that prestige/res value is the most important factor you should maximize in your early career. building a strong foundation of engineering skills and working in an environment that challenges you intellectually is much more important. not to say that company name doesn't matter though, of course it's still important. my point is more that all of these companies could land you a quant interview, but not all of them will give you the skills you need to pass it
No company teaches you LC skills
They might match but their base offer is lower from experience
if all you needed to pass a quant interview was LC skills, there would be a lot more quant devs out there
there are many facets to the interviews -- system design, communication skills, and ability to learn quickly are all things that are assessed beyond just LC
Sure but those are also assessed at a bunch of big tech companies
All I’m saying is that companies interview processes tend to be pretty distinct from what u do on the job
Passing interviews are a matter of prep not where u work
I do agree though that sure developing good engineering skills early on will help u with promos later
I remember pltr has cpp work with opengl so if u get that team it could be good, like the maps team iirc
fuk pltr
bb
@low cape may i ask how was your EM round
if you want to bomb innocent children just join the military bro 😂
