The main issue being highlighted is the unfairness as it’s so early into the season there’s no reason to reject a good candidate especially after the interviewer alluded to the person passing with flying colors
Also it’s so early into recruiting that those quotas won’t be filled I quite literally interviewed in December 2024 for intern and they had headcount last cycle

They’re allowed to be frustrated as others who failed the tech got offer through organizations such as colorstack, it sets a slightly unfair precedent but ultimately there’s no overturning the decision

u are wrong sorry the company does objectively care a lot for DEI and source applicants from colorstack and other things like afrotech but give offers to people from many backgrounds including ones not in DEI groups. additionally deferring your rejection to that you weren't DEI implies that all the DEI applicants didn't really have to perform in the interviews to get the internship which is a pretty crazy implication and also fairly subtley racist imo

also sorry for the ping but i think this is lowkey an important statement to make
i hope you understand that a lot of the motivation behind the DEI systems is caused by compliance pressure from agencies like the EEOC / OFCPP which are traditionally supported by left leaning admins. in practice it creates a pressure to hit diversity targets which is a pretty bad way to approach it, and causes problems like this. even in our current right leaning admin, these agencies still exist.
imo a much better solution is to create programs that help upskill traditionally undereducated and represented groups who, for systemic reasons, may not have access to the same quality of education or resources.
basic intelligence not influenced by racism leads you to the thought that people should generally not be different in capability on the basis of race, and more so on the basis of upbringing and circumstance. if this is a point you struggle to get past, you are definitely racist and more than likely very stupid as well.
a stronger solution to this than just incentivizing hiring of underrepresented groups is to incentivize the cultivation of their skills. so when you run into problems with DEI programs hiring people you think are less qualified than you, recognize this is a much larger issue than the color of skin of your fellow human.

rotational programs and developmental programs imo are a very good way to do so
arent internships in a way cultivating skill
the problem is that people who receive a lower quality of education on the basis of less access are then given the same opportunity compared to someone who may be more qualified, which is where the disagreement comes from
yes but they are also one of the only ways to get hired into full time roles with low friction
they are not just cultivating skill really, the goal of companies is to convert hires to full time
imo programs that exist that do not intend to give the person a full time role at the company but give them an opportunity to grow into someone who is qualified for one is ideal.
currently i would say these programs exist but are not so focused on by the aforementioned agencies
ig this would be like step interns this yr (could not be converted at all so they had to reapply externally)
