Multiple publications in top tier conferences since my undergrad. Prev MLE at faang. I know this is not representative of the overall cs population but I did all that at a non-target school

I think also there’s an important distinction to be made in MLE roles in industry. From what I see there are many teams that use gen ai and deep learning for their products, and that’s considered MLE. But I aim for roles in ml infra, large scale ml stuff

Sure dm resume. To break into ml infra you need to be good at infra. Large scale distributed systems. Large scale swe. Ml infra is like regular infra but instead of serving a crud database you’re serving models don’t let it sound intimidating

Ml research is different from ml training and serving. For research academia is the only route. You almost always need a phd. For the latter, you still need to know the ml theory very well. You can maybe break into ml by knowing the basics (hard maybe, depends on luck). But to actually be competitive you need to know ml very well
