what does NG mean?
new grad
I would, but I'm no expert maybe ask other people if you should
100% should if they arent school-related organizations, in which case i would make that obvious in the "company" name
nah its obvious it has the school name
any other advice or is it generally okay @flat dawn @tepid nest
list classes horizontally under education
can combine some of the technical skills sections you have
add a concepts section under technical skills
and follow all of this #1419846582148403240 message
i dont think they'd fit in one line, should i get rid of some of the classes?
can you elaborate on what you mean by concepts?
Should I drop ETL & DE tools and just go tools to make space for the concepts?
yes, or use the acronyms like ML, AI
if u have to delete one then data visualization is first
the most glaring flaw in your resume is that your eduaction is a 'concentration on big data' and you were 'vp of technology' and a 'senior analyst' but arent exactly conveying baseline skills in data, let alone at the senior/VP of tech level
- 'created lightweight SQL database' was this mysql, postgres, etc? my first impression of this resume was 'you know sql but havent actually used a sql database' until i read again and saw that line, but no HR is going to read your resume twice
- missing key apache tools like kafka, hadoop, airflow, etc
- missing message queues
- missing breadth in analytical dbs like bigquery, snowflake
- missing general cloud knowledge
- missing object storage
- missing dbt
- missing cassandra
among others
basically you are saying youre better than entry level but dont have at least some of these foundational things
not to say you need ALL of these, but these are some basic skills you need to convey if you want to get into DE
and honestly you could learn all of these in like a month
just to clear up this isnt me dogging your technical knowledge, you havent graduated school yet so its not realistic to know all of this, but its me dogging on the way you present yourself as better than entry level in this resume
tbf it's vp tech of a fintech school club we're not doing the craziest stuff lol
i get what you're saying i though, i should highlight my role more accurately in-line with the level i'm conveying
ye since its a club u can just downgrade your role
not like a legit job where theyd be like whyd u change your job title
what do you think of reframing the points to a more leadership position rather than leaning into data for that experience?
youd word things less on the implementation details but more on how you and a team got the project done
But if youre applying for entry level theyre looking more for someone who can implement requirements than one who can come up with requirements
Not to say u shouldnt have any leadership points thogh, they definitely help
i see that makes sense
i feel conflicted now, they're looking for someone to implement requirements, but a more senior position helps
But I should also change the position name since it isn't a real job?
What do u recommend as the main course of action, rewording the points to describe my work with the technologies you mentioned or change the role name?
nah i didnt mean a more senior position, i meant conveying leadership
change the role name & describe work with those technologies
if you were in a senior position, your resume would be mostly outlining your leadership ability. because at that point you had enough technical skill to be promoted to a senior position
so what i meant is that for junior positions, its perfectly okay to talk about leadership BUT understand that juniors are expected to implement code, not lead a project. as such your bullet points should convey the technical ability to implement whatever your senior wants from u
will do appreciate your help
i hope you live a long, happy and fulfilling life
