#Resume for next summer / spring internships
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
should I just remove that position because it was kinda bullshit
its also not relevant to what I want to do
contributed to ivy league ... (how,. what, why?)
but its like the only work experience I have in college
Is ifne, just got more into technical details
and avoid. some jargon
try to make it Lay person/ lightly technical
I dont have percentage metrics
ex. idk what SIMD vectorization mean
so it makes no sense to me
(u dont need % metrics)
I would have to specify that?
Not asking for % metrics
I think % metrics usually BS anyways
I call it number spamming
(i feel it more from a finance / biz world that ppl carried into tech resume writing) but for a ng / intern, u really didn't do much that makes that much a diff
only for mid / seniors, does it really make more sense to get into high impact numbers
wrote some tips here
just get it to what i tell ppl 1-100, usually above 70% good is good enough for a resume
right now id say ur at like 50%
it like u just lightly wrote literally what u did in the lightest way possible
but u could expound more on the details
what about the quality of my projects
do i need multiple resumes
Because im interested in gpu computing
but not every jon I apply to is going to be that
I dont think my resume is well suited for swe
the projects are fine, but it too jargony, too spammy on the tech without explanation to the impact / what the challenges were
it's fine to be interested in GPU computing
but realize that ull most likely have the best shot at a general swe
not saying u need to be a general swe resuyme
it just need to show technical proficiency
ive seen plenty ppl have resume focused on research
How do I target general swe then? more fullstack stuff?
I hate research
to be honest
ur resume doesnt really matter for general swe targeting
it just pass the interview ๐
as long ur resume is technical
What about how they filter tho?
it enough to pass the screening
they manually filter
but the manual fitler for ng / intern is light
it usually does this person seem technical enough
Thats a lot of resume reviews
it is
why cold emailing often can cut the line
(write about it but meta for ex. if u find the right recruiter can often cut the line)
Grace Hopper Convention i never heard of htis
Do you think it would be wise to remove a research position and put more projects
I really dont care about my research and I have less to talk about there
for females can be helpful. it is a cost to go, but seen varying success
I feel research is better, cause shows u did something outside projects
but ui need to write it better lol
Im a girl
is helpful then if u can attend
but u must be ready for on the spot interviews
Idt cs companies actually give a shit
idk... probs not
had friends who went
and was not ready
ex. one went to the apple table, was asked an easy lc
couldnt do it live on the spot
I really want apple so bad
but she didnt practice enough
that doesnt really matter tbh for apple
ur best bet for apple is aggresively reach out, but they really are black boxes
(im surprised u want apple tho)
why?
not the best in benefits
I loveee apple products
meta / google are the best
5 of my friends who graduated got citadel and jane street
for benefits / pay
yeah, im not a fan of quant myself
Me neither
but is awesome for ppl who can get in
meta works on pytorch right
(obvs smart ppl) (but intense interviews)
cornell ๐
i dont go to cornell
google is so weird about how they hire
ive heard varying stories
it is weird
idk if this is nepotism but I know the recruiter at meta for california office
shes like married to my moms cousin
just back then my goal was google, was my "dream" as many others was
but ended up going to google xD
the problem is the first time I asked her she kinda brushed me off
omg i live near a google office and its so nice
yeah lol ur best bet is just find the real meta recruiters directly
thro friends / stuff
they have a freaking icecream shop thing
google / meta both do haha
r u in bay?
doesnt matter @wispy lion but u do need to be more aware of timelines / visa. can refer to the article ontimelines / adjust to ur own needs
taught many international students, u just have more pressure to resolve visa stuff
I can dm u?
