oops let me go convert my resume to an image

#

Any advice appreciated šŸ™

boreal drum
#

no shit u aint getting processes…

#

tf is roblox studios and amazon services llc

#

just put roblox and amazon no?

dreamy yoke
#

I guess you do have a point

#

lol

#

k ill do that

#

anything else

maiden gorge
#

2million revenue in Roblox bro why are you going into software dev

#

Just continue Roblox…

#

And zon intern idk how ur struggling

#

This has to be engagement bait ego trip resume right?

#

I’m just gonna assume that lol

#

Do you mind sharing what game in dm

nimble swan
#

US$2m revenue annually or total? does that include Roblox's commission? With 20 developers, this is not quite as strong as you think it is

mellow sentinel
#

prob unpaid or low pay

#

def not 2 mil

nimble swan
#

if it was unpaid I'd just list it as a project

dreamy yoke
#

so how it generally works is

#

devs are paid on commission

#

and the owner and a select few generally make percentage of the game's profit

#

and that 2m is after roblox commission

#

cause roblox won't last forever

#

gotta move on to actual things

maiden gorge
#

Roblox made grow a garden owner a billionaire

dreamy yoke
#

would you like to know a fun fact

#

grow a garden's dev is personal friends with the ceo of roblox

#

and the game's stats are boosted

#

lol

maiden gorge
#

Steal a brain rot is multi millionaires

dreamy yoke
#

yea

maiden gorge
#

Prison break

dreamy yoke
#

where are you going with this

#

you're cherry picking the .1 percent

maiden gorge
#

2 mil revenue is alot for being owner

dreamy yoke
#

maybe even smaller

maiden gorge
#

You are 0.1% too?

#

2 million revenue

dreamy yoke
#

i'm not the owner of the game

#

just friends with the owner

#

its his game

#

not mine

#

but i worked on it

#

with him

#

but yea

#

thanks for the advice

#

will change the bullets

#

skills i feel are just like

#

a place where everyone dumps

#

ats buzz words

#

to pass the screen

#

i think everyone's resume in this channel has a bloated skills section

dreamy yoke
#

actually no i feel i'm somehow doxxing myself

#

🄹

maiden gorge
#

Ok šŸ‘ np

dreamy yoke
#

but this isn't engagement bait

#

i actually just have only gotten auto oa's

maiden gorge
#

You shouldn’t struggle

dreamy yoke
#

lol

maiden gorge
#

NG is barely opening rn

#

Just wait for cycle to open

#

It’s all luck anyways

#

Also don’t you have Amazon RO

dreamy yoke
#

hiring freeze

maiden gorge
#

What’s wrong with Zon

#

You still have incline tho don’t u

#

It’s just delayed until they unfreeze no? Or that is what I hear

dreamy yoke
#

i was told skip vetoed due to hiring freeze / office politics

#

so no

#

unfortunately

#

apparently this is a common thing

#

corporate's so hard

#

but then again roblox is just dealing with hormone induced 17 year olds

#

so idk

#

pick your poison ig

maiden gorge
dreamy yoke
#

skip vetoed me

#

talked to him

#

like once or twice

#

during my whole internship

#

ĀÆ_(惄)_/ĀÆ

#

something going on behind the scenes

#

completed the project, everyone said that was enough

#

demoed it in time

#

idk

maiden gorge
#

Didn’t embody Andy Jassy enough unlucky

dreamy yoke
#

i hate those LP's

#

and how applicable they are to everything lol

#

i see this on r/engineeringresumes too tbh

#

isn't that the point though? to just dump ats buzzwords?

#

or am i wrong in this regard

maiden gorge
#

I don’t even think ATS is real… but who knows…

dreamy yoke
#

šŸ’€ are u a big shot

#

i feel like i'm somehow talking to someone with 10 YOE

#

oh god

#

LOL

maiden gorge
#

He an unc

#

He’s like 27 or something

dreamy yoke
#

but isn't every companies ats different

#

they have a different set of words you need to hit

#

oh?

#

i was told that firing out apps was more efficient

#

so much contradicting info

#

i should probably follow your advice though

maiden gorge
#

To spec like 5 resumes

dreamy yoke
#

ah yea

#

i forgot being a generalist isn't very

#

good

#

rather having a generalist resume

#

isn't very good*

#

but shouldn't i do that after i get my first job?

#

well yea just like u just said

#

lol

#

if my primary goal's a job i feel it's best to just generalize and once you get something you can hone in on something u want

#

i see

#

so a couple diff resumes for diff positions

#

too bad simplify doesn't support different profiles

maiden gorge
#

Simplify is not much faster than just dumping resume

dreamy yoke
#

how about other roles like network / infra / ml, etc

#

what do you do with those

maiden gorge
#

Most websites will autofill regardless

dreamy yoke
#

well

#

i'm graduating in december

#

in hopes of getting an internship

#

oh

#

hm

#

hm i see

#

okok

#

well i'm not doing

#

i'm hoping to do one

#

haha

#

that's why i made this post

#

no callbacks yet

#

or interviews

#

or anything

#

just oas

#

yea i forgot that i only got my amazon internship last december

#

can i dm you in the coming future

#

for more advice

#

šŸ˜„

maiden gorge
#

Want to play league with me the other day someone called me the hard r šŸ™

dreamy yoke
#

oh but how am i supposed to like cater, if my experiences don't fit that

you know what i mean

roblox is mostly just you writing in lua cause most of it is taken care of for you (servers, dbs, etc)

#

so how would i cater my experiences to frontend / backend, etc

#

if they don't actually fit

#

eh

#

yea

maiden gorge
#

Also recommend not putting dates on projects, 1 month long project makes it seem not meaningful / not relevant either

dreamy yoke
#

but these don't have like

#

actual tools assosciated with them

#

just lua scripting

#

and using roblox env

#

so how would i make bullet points

dreamy yoke
#

it sounds like you've done some game development yourself btw hehe

#

its not that i'm worried but i just don't see how one makes good bullet points without fancy schmancy buzzwords cause its just lua scripting

#

oh

#

kk

maiden gorge
#

Imo I’m ngmi so don’t take my advice at heart but don’t even spec anything for Roblox; it’s like just showing your team experience in real world situation; not technical. If you want to spec you need to add projects

dreamy yoke
#

hm

maiden gorge
#

Roblox is +2 charisma (op generalist stat) but like if you want to spec Str/Dex/Int/Wis you need to modify other stuff

dreamy yoke
#

oooh

#

i see

#

that's good

#

i'm stealing it

#

its hard when i see everyone elses resumes, every other bullet point is loaded with tech buzzwords

#

would you like to link a thread šŸ˜

#

ooh

#

i saw this

#

but is the point of the resume to pass ats to get the interview or to impress the person hiring you

#

i guess both

#

strike a balance kind of thing

#

lol

#

hmm

#

ok i will take this advice to heart, time to revise a bit sad_kermit

#

huh

#

oh ok

#

yea i did

#

hm

#

šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

#

but i'm just wondering

#

how do you know this kind of honesty works better than buzzword filling

#

or is it just your personal opinion

#

i see

#

the world really is conflicting

#

i had an sde2 on my team who gave me career advice of to do the exact opposite of what you're doing and fake everything

#

idk i can't stand for their credentials just putting out what i've experienced

nimble swan
#

as someone who interviews, I will look at open source contributions if you have them

dreamy yoke
#

the sde2 saying this though was leaving

got interviews at various places like google, snowflake, salesforce, airbnb etc etc

#

ARHG

#

they have

#

yea

#

5yoe

#

at amazon

#

yea

#

but i'm saying they got interviews while i was there

like during my time there they were interviewing

#

and were in the process of leaving

#

hm

#

you have a point

#

yea ok

#

i'll just follow yours and be honest

#

gotta stand out somehow

dreamy yoke
#

any other notable companies

#

other than notion

#

that look at open source contributions?

nimble swan
#

my company isn't small but if it gets to me, I will take a look

dreamy yoke
#

ok so tldr of it all is
be honest in my impact / metrics and strike a balance between buzzwords / credibility
think deeper about how even simple technologies i've used can be applied to different roles
cater resume and have different types of resumes

start a stronger project

#

start contributing to open source projects too

#

kk thx will come up with more revisions meow_coffee

nimble swan
#

it's one of the easiest ways for me to assess ability when many people are greatly exaggerating their accomplishments

dreamy yoke
#

love the pfp btw

#

fern ā¤ļø

#

oh

#

maybe its not fern

#

um

#

nvm

#

hehe

nimble swan

prefacing that i have not read other peoples advice yet so sorry if it overlaps

formatting - formatting comes first because we want to see how much space do we truly have on our resume right now, and any new content added should fit within all these formatting guidelines.

a) the resume is not uniform at all and honestly a bit painful to skim. this is not ur fault this is pretty standard problem but in my exp the best way is to reduce as many bullet points as you can (should be most of them) to 1 bullet. so you wanna have 1 bullet point per line, no 2+ liners. this could mean either reducing a bullet into 1 or splitting it into 2 separate ones. the benefits of this are a) less fluff b) more intentional usage of space.

I want to be clear this doesn't mean there needs to be less space used, it means we want lines to be uniform and have dense line content with less fluff. Not all lines can be condensed into 1 line

b) fill out concepts a bit more, it seems like ur mostly going towards dist sys and backend so maybe smth like microservice architecture, databases, etc. the point of the concepts line is to help with ats and the direction of ur resume. i wanna clarify that this is something i started advising to do that is completely anecdotal, but has worked out really well for myself and many others. you want this lime to be about 2 lines and you dont really have a reason not to use all the space

in general most sections can be condesned into these 3: languages, technologies, concepts

c) project is cool but its def better to diversify / do more projects than expand too much on one. i will say i used to hold the opinion that projects were a bit useless and now i dont feel that way because i think projects are actually pretty useful talking points in interviews as demonstrations of interest. they wont help you that much in the resume screen but they're cool to talk about

d) put coursework , yes even math coursework , no not entirely unrelated coursework

content - content comes next but its because content is really easy! and new content should follow the above instructions, so its better to format --> change content --> format again if needed.

im not going to read each of ur bullets yet because they will change when you reduce to 1 line, instead i will teach you how i write my bullets.

a) for listings i usually make the first line easy and simple to understand. since these are technical projects its hard NOT to be technical in your descriptions but the ideai s to make it as understandable as possible to someone who doesn't have a ton of domain knowledge. first line is more overarching

b) subsequent bullet points should be a little more technical, and expanding on what you said in the first line

c) put company name in bold and position in italics not the other way round , no one cares that you were a swe intern. they care that you worked at zon or wherever. this still applies even if you dont have good names on your resume, because bolding "SWE Intern" is not valuable at all.

show me when ur done
