#Is this resume okay? Been out of work for 6+ months

any reason to still list the 2018 project? also need to order chronologically
PhD in Physics, 10 yoe, C++ experience, collaboration with Space X and NASA? bro you're the most accomplished person I've ever seen on this server 😭 I'm doomed if someone as accomplished as you can't find a job 😭 it's so over for entry level
Why is there no employment from when you were a PhD student?
PhD students don't have time to work a job 😭 the PhD is their job 😂
they can very easily explain what they were doing. People at my university were being paid more than you working as a PhD candidate
i read this resume and i’m not sure what kind of roles you’re targeting. it reads like you should try to find jobs at national labs or defense contractors (on engineering or research teams). it’s very technical in terms of literally what you did but doesn’t sell your experience in a quick digestible way to suggest to a recruiter that they should call you. your recruiter probably didn’t take calc 2 or intro physics — unless they’re specifically looking for things like “numerical integration” and “trajectories” as keywords, it’s white noise to them.
as suggested above, you should include your phd work as “work experience.” i’ve used the job titles “computational scientist” or “graduate research assistant.” recruiters or hiring managers can figure out how many YOE it should count for. all of it counts at a research org. it might count for 2-3 at some tech companies and 0 at others.
i’m of the opinion that your personal projects don’t hold any weight after you’ve been an experienced engineer unless they’re notable open source projects or somehow necessary to show off skills you need to transition into your next role. you should keep the most relevant ones to whatever role you’re targeting if you have white space after including your thesis work.
I literally cannot get an interview. On the rare occasion when I know they've seen my application or LinkedIn page (because it was an application done through LinkedIn so it tells me). I'm applying to remote jobs and jobs in my area, I may have to do what I really, REALLY do not want to do and leave my city and family to get a job a thousand miles away. This SUCKS.
I don't know what you mean here.
Being a PhD student is a full-time job. I could mention that I was doing research and teaching but people who know what a PhD program is would be able to figure that out for themselves, plus is it super-relevant for SWE jobs that I taught intro to astronomy labs?
discuss your research
List your publications. do you have security clearance, then I’d list that. Do you have any internships during your PHD? list you PI (if they’re decently known or better).
My publications are pure theoretical physics, no industry relevance. I used to put them on there but ran out of space. Is it still useful to put them there if they aren't industrially relevant?
imo no. if you intend to stay in industry and not in a research role adjacent to your previous research, you should not list publications. it’s fine to mention that you published papers and even link your scholar page, but your resume should reflect that you’re in industry and looking for industry roles. it should not read like you are still an academic
