Yes youre like 100% getting blacklisted tho
lol you'll just be blacklisted from the one u reneg
yea i don’t mind being blacklisted cus i’ll most likely never work there full time
as long as i don’t lose both lol
can i have one of them then
Which r they
Also if they’re pissed enough (mid sized companies def can be compared to big tech recruiters) they might try ti get ur other offer rescinded
So mayb j dont post ab ur new offer on linkedin or nun
Yea i’m not dropping any names to either company jus in case
@warm agate unless you have a very good reason, don’t do this
It’s really unprofessional and it will reflect badly on you
I’m going to let them know asap
eh I don’t see the problem if ur ok with being blacklisted tbh companies have done it to interns in the past
But like what if there isn’t any conflict and both companies are fine with it if one of the company’s give flexible hours?
If you don’t see the problem with sacrificing some of your integrity then I can’t convince you of it
does this actually happen
yea ones remote so could i do do both?
It’s more for personal security
especially in weird economic times
Yea ik ppl who reneg too so idt its that deep
I know people who cheat on exams, doesn’t make it ethical
bruh companies dont gaf about you
it goes both ways
its just business
pretty big public companies
What if one is a big company and the other is start up remote?
this seems like an unfair comparison
what about the Tesla interns that had their offers rescinded like days before their start date last year 💀
companies do the exact same stuff you have to look out for yourself at some point
integrity is nice but it can screw u if things don’t work out
obv small chance
Yes exactly, and this is how companies look at interns who renege
would u rather have no internship for the summer and integrity or an internship and maybe u reneged
Bro sayin all this knowin hed renege if a 1 mil offer from rentech came thru the door rn 😭😭😭
yeah fr it’s different for the ngmis that barely get internships
companies will lay off/fire/rescind you as soon as its in their best interest
this applies to most large companies
Some ppl finish processes around the same time as eachother
Or get a second chance at a better clmpany
Like for me i got c1 offer so i signed before deadline then got amazon VO and was like oh shit
R yall sayin i shouldve taken c1 over zon if it came to it
like what are people supposed to do when they get a c1 offer (as example) early in the cycle then without reneging? just gamble that they’ll get a better one later
Just to avoid reneging c1
Give me some of ur orz pls
imo it does not make sense to stay loyal to a company unless it's like very small and you're part of the early team
yeah exactly
Andrew bro r u saying if i got amazon summer i shouldve rejected and stayed with c1
Alright thats crazy to say to rej zon for c1 but, assume it was any other company maybe like google
Ur saying i should reject google for c1
So u wouldve banked on goog team match
but at the time you wouldn’t know the future 💀
I need to pass more screens next cycle, my r1 to offer rate overall is 100 but I just don’t get enough interviews
When its notorious for not working out
but sometimes you have no clue you're even capable of getting a better internship
a lot of ppl cannot correctly gauge their skill level + it's a lot of luck involved
Bro andrew idk if ur hearinn urself or considering realistic situations
lowkey they’re rage baiting bro
U think integrity is a rage bait?
This is crazy
What if i thought goog was done hiring so i signed c1, but then got goog team match offer like a month later
Yall r SERIOUSLY saying to take c1 over google
integrity is meaningless when it comes to your relationship with a large corporation
again what r u supposed to do in this case
especially when you have not even worked with a team
@stuck hedge ud take c1 over google in this case
Or c1 over a quant firm u wanted
So you wouldve risked 0 offers
the circumstances are clearly different for u guys since quant recruits way earlier so u had initial offers, for tech it’s different timeline
So youd career suicide
Just to not renege
When a company would lay u off or rescind ur offer due to their own convenience neede
Dis cray
Mf this like a millionaire saying to follow ur passion and not money 😭
I think people should just not accept offers they think are beneath them in the first place
a lot of ppl have no clue what is beneath them
it’s hard to predict this in the future when so much of tech is luck based
Where is software engineer 💔💔💔💔💔💔
I got like Google process randomly late in the year but rej from a ton of “worse” places at screen
i got two offers this cycle, one of them pays 4x more than the other
Andrew if u got rentech reachout rn would you decline them
I mean I thought so lol but these people are proposing the situation “what if you accepted mcdonalds fry cook offer and get Netflix swe”
Yes but assume theybamde a special exception just for u
But u signed ur curr firm
You would reject rentech?
something similar unironically happened to me
😭😭😭😭 dawg
You’d tell them you’d like to keep in touch and interview for next cycle because you made a commitment for this summer
this only makes sense if ur existing offer can somewhat compete
I know someone who was in Google TM that only got 1 other process / offer early on and it was at a complete no name
what were they supposed to do if they got Google
“Be better” - andrew essentially 😭😭
for the average person this advice can be very damaging ngl
I think there are some outlier situations but I don’t think people should be so quick to renege and act like it doesn’t reflect badly on them
For a lot of big tech, it doesnt really tho
if you are in the upper bracket of ppl recruiting then you likely have a much better read on the types of offers you can land
and nobody is doing it for fun or wants to do it, it’s more out of necessity for career security
so it's way less consequential to just be like "i will never renege"
I think its very normalized to renege in upper tiers of recruiting
Until you get to extreme upper ends such as high tier quant
fuck me ig
lol who cares about companies' integrity if they will fire u fr if needed
or rescind
wait so like
fr the CEO not letting u guys hit 💀
yeah it is
looks like i gotta send some emails tomorrow
do as early as possible
uhm actually I am gonna reject you because I signed some contract uhm👆
most of these contracts don't even have anything about reneging
they say that both company and the employee can reject
Do you not know what a contract is
its so doomed LMAO
contracts r technically at will
as long as u signed an at will contract
I saw them lmao
hmm itneresting
it doesn't oblige u to stay as long as u signed
i feel bad cuz im reneging a pretty small and good company
why doesn’t C1 follow similar philosophy I feel like they get hella reneged too
No I mean do you not realize that the whole point of a contract is to be binding, if not legally then professionally
You can’t say “the contract didn’t say it was a contact”
Yea they hire so early 😭😭
in that economy u gotta survive however u want, u are not making a big difference by reneging from a big corporation
if u feel really bad about it u can gamble amazon fall but idk how likely at this point
and it is foolish to judge people who reneg
Idt theres much morally wrong w reneging a big huge corpo but a small local company is kinda bad 😭😭😭
the offer letters ive seen all have a clause that state either party can terminate at any time
If you don't want to work for the company then don't work there
You guys can justify all you want but it doesn’t change the nature of what reneging is, which is going back on your word
If your principles allow you to do that then go ahead
I just looked at my c1 contract the only starement ab reneging is u j need to pay back the stipend thats it and alls well
like amazon says this
Idt big companies care that much
Good policy
If the company u want to renege starts first, u can show up and quit day 1 so ur not going back on what u signed
my dad actually wants me to do this for a week or 2 in case of visa issues 💀
it's like we don't care about ants
lowk like thats another thing tho right like if u renege too early and end up with one offer what are the chances that that compnay recinds ur shit
internship offer rescinds are pretty rare but
I think chance of being rescinded is very low unless u do some shit
it depends on what company
if its like tesla for example
id 100% keep another offer as late as possible
i also heard of someone getting rescinded from cerebras 5 days before
their start date
so
nothings impossible
Remember this
I feel bad for that guy
Poor dude
i generally wouldnt think about this possibility though unless the company really has a track record for rescinding
that's fire
he got rescinded by the CEO??
not historically idt
what’s the latest yall would reneg a mid sized company
aren't there like 5k interns, and do u think they gonna choose u
i thought that shit was like 15k
interns
are u also employed still to 2 companies
probably like feb
or march
nah only locked on one waiting for another rn tho
if its a large company it doesnt matter
but in 2021 it was 10k
across 45 countries
and still they haven't sent me an oa lmao
this is prolly not as uncommon as you'd think
