MongoDB
Location: SF
Position: SWE intern
Pay: $57/hr + 5K stipend

Dropbox
Location: Remote
Position: SWE Intern
Pay: $60/hr

Currently a junior, looking to max resume value for ng recruitment first and RO second. Leaning towards MongoDB as dropbox feels like a dying company w low RO rate, but just feel that dropbox might have stronger resuem value

Mongo

#

Every company uses Mongo

#

100% dropbox

Easily Mongo bc dropbox is becoming obsolete meanwhile everyone uses mongo and knows about it.

thats mostly what im fought on, feel like dropbox might give more interviews

#

Plus, the work for mongodb sounds way more interesting

#

Also RO I've heard is high for mongo

#

Not sure why you’d go mongoDB

#

MongoDB ng tc is way worse

#

Despite not being a fast growing company Dropbox def has a lotta cool teams in infra etc so idt the work will be any less interesting

#

Also I feel like the bar is higher at Dropbox

#

@steady hamlet @green canopy honestly don’t care for ng tc don’t think I wanna go ft. Yall feel even w Dropbox decline they’re much higher prestige?

#

Just tryna target fanng+ prolly for ng

#

that what im thinking

#

dropbox peak was massive

#

talent and interviewers were insane

#

but idk if that sentiment is still followed

#

thx for the advice tho everyone

Mongo is only getting bigger, so its resume value will also keep increasing

I mean if ur going for intern and don’t care much about RO trajectory doesn’t rlly matter

#

If u did care about RO Dropbox is still way better since the tc is actually competitive with faang

#

As of now Dropbox prestige >> mongoDB imo

#

For res value I’d go Dropbox for intern

#

In ur position

#

Can’t go wrong with either tho

#

Both solid companies

hoary gorge
#

feel like difference in res value is kinda negligible w these 2

#

imo it comes down more to what teams you're matched with and what work you're more interested in between the 2

#

at the end of the day, a recruiter is likely to know both companies and a hiring manager will care way more ab what team and type of work you did vs. which company has slightly more prestige

#

another factor worth considering is whether interning remotely is something u want. with mongo u get to meet a lot of new ppl, whether it be the other interns or FTers vs. dropbox it's hard to build a strong network remote

Bet thnks for all the awesome advice everyone

think im going with mongo, but was a tough one lol
