#LinkedIn vs Atlassian Internship (junior year)
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I have 2 offers, one from Atlassian and one from LinkedIn.
Atlassian: 58/hr SFO, $3000 lump stipend, remote company (idrc, i want to be in office); Return offer highkey guaranteed, nearly 90%. My recruiter and everyone I talked to were extremley kind and personable
LinkedIn: 50-something in either Sunnyvale or SFO, offer letter otw, they do offer something for housing too. Doesn't disclose return offer rate. (i've heard they don't assume they can find a role for all interns and teams know about headcount later). Better brand name and Microsoft stock as well.
I want somewhere with a good intern program that will really develop me. Ultimately I want to become really competent as a SWE and set a good foundation for having a lot of impact wherever I'm at.
I'm really looking to Learn more than Earn and its a blessed amount regardless. I think compnay direction is usually a good sign about layoffs. Not sure how much as a new grad I'll be affected by culture or WLB tbh.
had the same situation and i took linkedin
yeah i remember you saying that, let me go back and check out what helped you make that decision
cant go wrong w either but the ro stuff ab atlassian at the time was shaky there and ik linkedin is sketch in general so if i had to choose between sketch and sketch id rather go w the company that has better growth/upside
linkedin doesnt hire external ngs either and ive heard rlly great things ab their intern program and company in general
fwiw atlassian stock has been dipping recently, if ur worried ab ro id take atlassian but their ro isnt 100% solid as years b4
id argue linkedin is on the uptrend, they had a bad year in 2023 bc of layoffs so intern ro was not good that year. think its looking better for the 24 interns but id expect to still be hunting ng for a bit bc some orgs take some time to know ab hc
overall tho the ro stuff seems a bit sketch in general this year across all tech (with some companies being an exception), at the eod if ur a high performer theyll try their best to keep you regardless of the company
yeah thanks, i feel like i have more a tangible feeling for LinkedIn that isn't just better brand name in my head
Something to ask yourself, if you took Atlassian would you be ok with that being your NG job + externally hunting
Or would you rather have LinkedIn internship + potentially no NG RO + need to look externally
LinkedIn resume value would be better Iโm pretty sure, but NG market is pretty rough so keep that in mind.
Hard choice tho ngl
I'm currently looking on levels.fyi, it seems like compensation is a decently lower for LinkedIn, is the Apprentice SWE IC1 what new grads are or am I just misunderstanding it
its ic2
well damn, nvm then good looking
ok this is a good way to lay out the decisions thank you
but that number is slightly misleading bc its skewed w masters data
I think general bachelors swe is in the 195-200 range
but their promos r fast
2 years to senior on average
i might have to be a gambling man
damn, how much did your recruiter/behavioral interviewer tell you?
i feel like i ask pretty good questions but you really grilled em
my interviewer was 2 years to senior
j now
and my behav said good growth
yeah, a few days after interviewing
to give u a number in the li disc 42/200 have reported a verbal ro
i know i'm the type of person to want to do whats best for me, even if it has a higher barrier. I've been betting on myself for so long that I think I'll continue doing so. If I can assume good performance for both of them, I would be upset if I shot lower out of fear
I might regret it but I think i need to live true to my identity
id assume theres a good 40-50 that probably also heard back but arent in discord/dont report, and interns infra teams havent heard back yet
this is the exact reason i chose linkedin over msft
like j now? shit lmao that means theyre done w this week's decisions
im supposed to hear back this week too
no like a few hours ago i got the email for calling, and good news, and verifying my legal identity, start date, and grad date
whos ur recs
ah gotcha
both of u
i have JW
really hoping the best for you @gmi
youll hear back by eod today
(recruiter?) SS
yea
you?
NS
@foggy stag
ion even know what i asked for lmao, i know like 3 people at the company
if u end up accepting lmk
i think i will, but i will
@bleak pivot hoping the best for you too.
let's all buy an extended stay airbnb in sfo, have $600 rent, and get our RO
lol i live in the area acc
but ong
she ended up picking me up after i met with her my intial recruiter was MC
id be so down for this ngl ik another intern me n him were talking ab it too
i had a lot of questions so M D'C connected me
she might get 2 rejects bc of li ๐ญ
yeah I have a friend who I met during abroad that moved back to the US, thatl'll be out there ๐ญ
I feel so bad too, she's been my best experience with a recruiter online
i basically begged their recruitrs for the early app link just to turn them down ๐ญ
loll
me n her were in talks like all thru spring asw
for linkedin? idk bra i just been talking to atlassian since early talent, and my friend met LinkedIn SS and connected me to her when a program we were in allowed us to visit hq's
oh lol
i think i was in a few of their early talent events, and they were partnered with an organization i was in
resume review ๐ฃ
shouldve not hit hc last year i wouldve taken them
wym
i even rescheduled LinkedIn, cause I was sick and my vocal cords sounded like a harmonica, and SS was being real with me and told me if I reschedule to Nov 3rd or wtv im prolly cooked and it's a big gamble, i took it but then she found an earlier date and it worked out
you too
i've been stressing and grinding since freshman year. to think I was even going to go to Community college, with the federal army reserve to pay for college. then coming to college opened my eyes up to what's really out there
I thought having a perfect gpa as a freshman would get me an internship, fuck was wrong with me ๐ญ๐ญ
went through a walmart arc, working 2 other jobs on top as a private act tutor and golf caddy
sophmore year networked my way into an internship, but i knew it wasnt the end goal
this school year i gambled my grades, personal relationships, health, student organization position, and everything on these interviews
looking forward to san francisco this summer for all of us
all ab exposure bro
good on u for being proactive
celebrate ts big tech is a big accomplishment
ro stuff to the side im rlly excited to work this summer
Linkedin wtf
Grind your hardest for return offer at Linkedin. If its comforting, linkedin name will help alot for ng recruiting
that's the goal anyway. I came too far to stop now
alright, my mind's made up. I'll meet with my coach, call the recruiter back (i texted her for times) and then decide
if any of yall got specifc questions i should ask lmk. thanks all
ro rate
Just to see whay they say
And anything else
The call is offer anyway u don't need to ask any special questions
Atlassian RO was like 50% this year w a bunch of ppl on waitlist apparently
i see, I guess my recruiter mustve using an older cohort. The person that told you, how accurate would you say they are?
I definitley well, I can't bet on NG recruiting other than practicing leetcode passivley over time
they were an intern
and im p sure they did a poll in a discord
Also HH cited 88% for me
but i think she included both waitlisted ppl and ppl who got return offers
