- Your github link is dead
- Don't include your GPA of 3.2
- "Expected" is redundant, you should either write grad date (May 2025) or write the range as so: (August 2021 - May 2025)
- Formatting: Try your best to reduce your project bullet points to a single line and remove all of that leading white space.
- Concatenate several bullet points into one, use this space to put in more projects.
From
" -Designed and developed a full-stack web application using Flask as the back-end framework and React.js for the
front-end user interface
• Implemented a solution to capture the user’s geographical coordinates using the Geolocation API and transmit the
data to the Flask back-end for further processing ....."
To
"Developed a full-stack web application with Flask and React.js that captures the user’s geographical coordinates and processes this data for ........"
"Developed a dynamic routing solution using the Google Maps API and the Haversine formula achieving X accuracy"
(my modificaiton is ass, find a better way... but u get the point) - Use the XYZ rule https://careerlaunch.mays.tamu.edu/blog/2020/02/17/get-hired-with-an-x-y-z-resume/
- notes should not be lowercase (Valorant Patch notes Discord Bot)
- Similarly
"Developed a Discord bot utilized by 30+ people that automatically obtains the most recent patch notes using
Python
• Implemented dynamic web scraping solution using Selenium to retrieve real-time news updates from the Valorant
News website"
to "Implemented a Discord bot with a userbase of >30 that presents scraped real-time updates from the Valorant News website"
Record the latency of your discord bot, is there a way you can make it faster? - Similar to 5 and 8, apply to the Fantasy. Football project.
- Dates for projects are largely unnecessary
- Continue to build more projects, I think if you have 0 technical exp, maybe even 5 projects would be better but make them all relevant to eachother in some way. You are a typescript and python frontend developer with some mobile experience, perhaps a solid goal would be to successfully publish another app to the iOS store. Make your projects have links/visible and visually pleasing on your resume.
Aside from that your projects are relatively cool and show some of your personality/interests, they are not cookie-cutter like many out there and this can be viewed very positively
Your projects generally corroborate your listed technical skills so there's no need to change much there
Experience working part time while in college lends credence to your potential work ethic and commitment so that's also good to have
You will need significantly more than 60 applications by the way for internships if you have 0 prior experience, so install something like Simplify as an autofilling extensions, and rank internships and new grad positions by recently posted dates @gray storm
im working on an essay real quick, but bro you are so goated like you have no idea how much I appreciate your insight on all of this. I am learning the ways of the CS field as I go so I have only been able to bits and pieces together when it came to what is important, but this really really helps me line up my goals on what I need to improve on next. I did see you mentioned trying to get the bullet points down to like one or two for my projects to add more room, so I have the question of isnt it beneficial to have lines explaining the technologies and how I used them on my project? But i see where you are coming from too, taking one bullet point to highlight everything in order to add more projects.
@languid sundial lemme finsih this essay and ima get back to you, but @ me when you post your resume and ill do as best as i can to provide similar feedback
All good man work on that essay lol we'll talk when ur done
essay finished
@languid sundial Did some revising, I fixed my github and linkedin links, added repo links to my projects, removed dates on projects, removed GPA, fixed some grammar stuff, downloaded simplify so i can use that when applying to internships. I do have questions though.
- I have gotten that comment that I should use the XYZ format, I thought I was already using it, can you please point out to me how my current layout does not meet the XYZ format?
Actually at the moment I think that is it. I have a pretty solid goal of just implementing more projects for my resume. So i gotta reduce the bullet points that I use so I can make room for more of the projects, and keep on applying.
keeping this alive
You got an updated resume?
Wow just saw this. My bad! Yes I do, I’m a bit busy right now, I’m gonna post it in here again and I will @ you
post normally damnit. @torn bridge finished revising it to the best of my abilities. I know I need to follow the XYZ format better, but I still struggle with it. I've been busy with finals so I couldn't apply for many internships, but I had an interview on Wednesday for a SWE internship so I'm hope maxing i get it. But yeah, if you could let me know your opinions, I would really appreciate it!
If you got an internship interview, then you must be doing something good already on the resume, good job
Thank you! It was mostly through a connection I had that I was able to get an interview, but obviously the resume looked good enough right
that was my very first interview ever for this field so im proud lol
Hold on I haven't reviewed it yet
Collaborative implies more than 1 player? You can write how many players they support
oh yeah like my friends and i all collaborated with each other to make that app
do you think i would be able to quantify that by saying it supports like X amount of players (X amount being however many players are in the fantasy football app)
