Nice! Congrats
If anyone is wondering about exp:
- Software Architecture summer internship at a popular USA-based motor vehicle company
- Worked in IT (just basic help desk stuff all undergrad) then was promoted to a IT Project Management Intern
- Worked as extended Reality developer at a research lab on my campus
- Since Dec 2023, I work full time as a lead extended reality developer
- I am finishing my masters degree at the same uni I did my undergrad. Its a public state school (think 1# in innovation and was the biggest party school for a while)
- Numerous personal projects
I dont believe my experience is the norm as I was reached out to directly (have never interacted with cisco outside of being emailed by the recruiter). The process went by really fast (almost worryingly so). The inital job description was vague and I had to ask a lot of question to figure out what I would be doing.
Do you know TC?
Are you an Intl?
I am waiting for the official offer letter after I sent them my preferred start date. But the compensation range I was given was 102000-154200
Nope, US citizen
salary not including potential stocks+bonus?
I believe it does, but I do not know. I just edited my previous message but they use the term compensation specifically. From what I was told, I should have the offer letter in a few hours or early tomorrow
sweet! Well congrats :))
follow
Congrats on the offer bro!!
An update for those interested. Official offer letter has not been sent yet but the portal was updated to reflect finalist. The location for the title is not accurate
Another update since I got the official letter today:
- salary will be USD 117,250.00 per year, which equals USD 4,509.62, paid every other week.
- 8,000$ sign-on bonus paid during my first month of start
- Official title is: UI Engineer II, Grade Level 006
- Not stocks offered but can buy at discount rate (see the next post for the benefits list I was given)
This is without negotiating yet, I will start negotiating soon for relocation benefit and possible full remote instead of hybrid (or remote with travel i dont want to move to NC lol)
Below are details on the benefits you’ll be eligible for as a Cisconian:
- Time2Give - concentration on volunteering, 80 hours(give back to community)
- Benefits - go into effect day one, have 30 days to choose your options and it gets retroactive to the 1st day
- Annual performance based bonus
- Employee Stock Purchase Plan - purchase Cisco stock at a discounted rate, 15% discount, so right off the bat you have already made money, 2 buy in dates per year (elect up to 10% Paycheck)
- 401K match (up to 4.5%)-Cisco matches 100% of the first 4.5% of eligible pay that you contribute, pre-tax or on a Roth 401(k) basis and you're 100% vested in your 401(k) Plan balance from the start so no waiting period on that match.
- Company culture (??? not sure how this is a benefit)
- Flexibility and work/life balance - ability to work remote
- PTO - 20 days, accrued at a rate of 6.16 hours per pay period, can carry over up to 30 days, your birthday
- Life Connections Health Centers - on site medical and dental, gym membership
- Employee Discounts - cars, amusement parks, movies, etc.
- Tuition Reimbursement - case by case basis - determined and approved by your manager
- Emergency time off- If something happens, family emergency, Cisco gives this time to you and will not be taken out of your PTO
- Comp is based on the market comp from other tech companies and Cisco pays more for their employee benefits more than any other company. (pays 85% of premium)
- National medical plans: A high-deductible plan with a Health Savings Account and free money from Cisco or a lower deductible PPO (UnitedHealthcare or Cigna)
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) are available 24/7. They can help find the right resources and refer you to experts near you. you and your covered family members can take advantage of 10 free counseling sessions per concern each year.
Do you have other offers to nego? I never know how to negotiate without offers
I haven't really been applying as often as I should so I only have one offer that doesn't even come close to the offer the Cisco gave (with Deloitte). I also dont really know how to negotiate. I think the biggest thing when negotiating without a counter offer is that you have to really sell what you are good at and do most of the work for them. Usually you have to stay within the salary range advertised bc they already budgeted for the position and cant change that. For a lot of companies, it is a long process to send someone new an offer and they are willing to work with you within reason. (plus as someone who has done hiring recently, the candidate pool is kinda terrible so once I found a good person, I clung to them)
If I was just asking for a compensation increase, I would list out how I plan to have my masters before my start-date (so that should be reflected), share how excited I am to join the company, and then list what I want for comp, bonus, RSUs, and relocation benefits. It helps looking at something like Levels.fyi so you have a realistic idea of what to ask for. The salary range I was given initially was 102000-154200. Based on the location and levels.fyi, it seems that 130-140 for TC is reasonable to ask for. In my case, that is asking for relocation and RSUs since (again based on others) I dont think they can budge on salary and bonus.
I am attempting to negotiate for more than just compensation, so there has to be something I offer back in return. For example, this job is Hybrid based in NC (I dont want to move to NC rn). I know that Cisco does have fully remote positions and are flexible. I will ask if it is possible to be remote my first year OR if they are willing to drop total comp (no more than 10-15%) for fully remote OR if there is the possibly of my "hybrid" being out of state with frequent travel as needed. They may be more receptive if they can "save money" by letting me work remote
Essentially what I am saying with that example is that you just have to be very clear with what you want but also attempt to be realistic so you have a higher chance of them saying yes. Just saying "is it possible to get more" without any explanation into why you should get more or how much is more will probably not get you far
ya i got an offer recently and the HR person was like "if you're happy with the numbers" and i felt like just saying "can i just get a bit more hehe?"
but then since i had no other offers i just agreed lol
Was this for Cisco as well ?
no diff company
