did they question the job gap?

native jay
#

I did projects tho

#

So that worked in my favor

#

Also filibustered

#

Said oh I had an offer before but it got canceled because of the climate

native jay
#

But gotta keep moving forward

clever kettle
#

I said I did projects in the meantime and said I had gone through the interview process a few times but couldn't nail down the LeetCode style questions and they respected the honesty

#

still didnt get the job tho lol

native jay

#

All good. You're my new found inspiration

hexed pasture
#

so what was the key to finally getting that offer? i'm hardly landing interviews rn

native nimbus
#

Do you mind share what projects you work on?

#

Shoutout mike Dantoni

and a full stack application written in django react foundation redux, the idea was simply for trading analysis using historical data (literally not even good it was just a CLI tool that I blew into a bigger project so I can use the technoligies lol

native jay
#

also wanna stress that I did leetcode religiously every day for about a year

#

made an excel sheet where I timed myself and added my thoughts about about the question and whether I think they're good to be reviewed

#

and I did a sort of a "year in review" data analysis on my progress so interviewers liked that too

#

whats process like for MDA

native jay
#

resume review for half and questions regarding your experience

#

and some indepth questions about certain things they use

#

then coding competance check where they share code and ask you questions about whats happening in the code and inheritence OOP concepts, etc

#

overall not bad at all, just research as much as you can about the team and know every line in your resume incase they ask about that line

native nimbus
#

do you mind i dm, my situation is kind like u

humble root
#

@native jay what was your experience before this

native jay
humble root
#

How many interviews did you have throughout the process

native jay
humble root
#

Damn wtf why did it take you so long to find an ft offer

native jay
humble root
#

No I meant

#

Like throughout your entire job search

native jay
native jay
#

I religiously applied every day

#

Attended job fairs at different universities

#

I got interviews thru that too, if a uni is hosting a career fair go to it. Most companies post new roles but their links are private to the fair and only available if you were there

humble root
#

Makes sense

*assembly

#

Ah

#

Man this scares me

#

Cuz like

#

I'm international

native jay
#

Upwork helped me fill in the gap of not having a job after grad

humble root
#

Graduating in April

native jay
#

Take full advantage of that from now

humble root
#

So I'd need to find a job by like, September of next year ish

native jay
#

Because many ppl have said this before that after grad you have max 6 months to find a job after that you’re rotten fruit

humble root
#

Because I wanna immigrate

#

Yeah I've been applying

native jay
#

Companies would much rather get the next batch of grads than go back to the old ones

humble root
#

Since January

#

Only had one interview so far

native jay
#

There is an expiry date for new grad and I seen that first hand that shits brutal

humble root
#

True

native jay
humble root
#

I did recently just change it up yeah

native jay
#

Spam connect with recruiters

humble root
#

Like ok I wanted to ask you this right

#

I emailed the recruiter that got me my old internship

#

She works somewhere else now

#

She did set up a meeting with me this coming week

#

But they don't have any job postings for me, so do you think the meeting was a waste

native jay
#

Yeah say the right things you want to get her to go the extra mile for you

native jay
#

The amount of recruiter calls I sat thru for them to only tell me no roles are open rn

#

And to tell them later if something shows up or they’ll reach out to me

humble root
#

My old boss, when I asked him what my chances for returning are told me that there is a hiring freeze

#

But we can see in 1-2 months if things get better

#

Wait

#

@native jay

native jay
humble root
#

What do you think of this

native jay
#

Looks good ooofff how are you having trouble

humble root
#

humble root
#

native jay
#

i still havent got to making a detailed reddit post but tbh its not ALL bleak, if you search my name up youll see from a year back i had an offer from somewhere else but tbh it wasnt the role i wanted plus waayyyy too low of money and housing there wasn't cheap i'd have to relocate

big tech sometimes cares sometimes doesnt but theyre explicit about the grad dates they want people from, most jobs will have a soft entry level exp requirement like maybe 1-2 years but who cares, its all a gamble just apply anyway

spiral lynx
#

@native jay btw did you keep your graduation date on your resume once the gap was past a year?
