you sign an offer from company #1 but you later get a better offer from company #2, so you back out of the original offer with company #1 even though you signed with them already

#

and because signing an offer doesnt force you to work for them, you can legally back out without any repercussions (besides the recruiter getting pissed off and getting blacklisted from the original company)

right... those big companies would lay you off in a heartbeat, and there's a million companies out there, if you get an offer that is "more in alignment with your career aspirations", whether prestige, money, WLB, etc. I don't see reneging as some taboo thing no one's allowed to do
