I'm Computer Science + Physics with similar resume and had a similar experience when applying for SWE roles. Seems like ML or scientific computing related work is negative signal for those kind of jobs :/

you might have better luck with research internships and ML internships, the only SWE interviews I got were for those i had a referall or for which I did well on an auto OA. Had much higher callback rate for ML or computer vision stuff tho

It might just be a seasonal thing too, I had a lot of feedbank and response at the very beginning of the season, like before the semester started
