I would say ms for the brand name but that's because I'm not familiar with Asana or what they do. If you're a junior though, perhaps check which one has a higher return offer rate.
yep i'm a junior
i've heard asana has a really high return offer rate. not sure about microsoft exactly but i assume it's decently high as well?
correct me if i'm wrong though
Yeah I know ms does but these days, most "Safe" companies aren't safe anymore
Which pays better? Also location preference, I'm assuming you're based in Canada
Some other factors I might consider are company size, team/technology you'd be working on, wlb, other benefits, and their intern program
Asana ez
yeah i'm based out of canada but ideally i'd like to work in the us after grad, which is why i'm hesitant about asana
take microsoft, their ro rate is usually pretty high, but unsure about this year
i've heard of interns being able to switch offices for ft for asana
but i don't want to bet on that happening esp in this economy
I heard FT RO for ms was low but I might be mistaken
for more context i would be on the global experiences and platform team on microsoft, which owns outlook and some microsoft 365 services
so not azure
Did asana not let u do SF office for intern?
they put me on a waitlist for switching over, i think they're getting close to headcount for sf
Ah I c personally I’d go Microsoft then since ur goal is to do US, but I did talk with a ft asana person who was at Vancouver office for intern and switched to NYC pre easily I think
my other concern is that i'm not sure if asana would actually be an exciting product to work on? i've heard a lot of people say it's just glorified atlassian
oh cool good to know! did they graduate this year?
Ye they did
That’s fair it probs is team dependent, I heard asana has some interesting problems to solve tho so yeh
Overall tho I think Microsoft is a safe bet esp if u could switch teams after ur internship for new grad
Since they are probs more flexible with that
yeah that's a good point, tyty
i don't actually know whether microsoft would be more flexible about team-switching 🤔 ik asana is
Oh interesting
U should try reaching out to asana to talk about past intern projects
Then u can see if the work would be interesting etc
I think asana has a really nice culture and wlb and their TC is pre good for new grad also so u probs can’t really go wrong with what u choose
yep but that also makes it a tough decision hahah
@wind sentinel mind if i ask what asana pays for van specifically
Do you wanna be in CA or US new grad?
GXP hmm
Tbh GXP is not bad
They had a really really high RO rate
ideally us
do you know anyone who interned at GXP?
i’ve heard teams at msft can be really hit or miss
yeah I know like 4-5 GXP people yeah
Everyone I know of got an RO
I think everyone is going back
TAOS is chill they have a $6k espresso machine and the people are really nice
Is that your guaranteed team
I heard it switches a lot, someone ik got switched from what he thought he was gonna be on
To my understanding, MS usually puts you with the team you interview with
I doubt you will have much say in your team, but I'm not entirely sure
ah darn it's not guaranteed, sucks that they switch people around
i've definitely been pestering my recruiter quite a bit about teams though so hopefully that'll do something lmao
yeah this was true for me, both of my interviewers were under GXP but in different sub-teams
microsoft recruiter also just told me that ROs are for the same org (so i'd still be under GXP) and same location generally so idk if there's much flexibility in moving around
honestly my only concern rn with microsoft is that idk if i'd like living in redmond ft after grad
Btw can you tell me about your interviews? Have mine in a few days and want to get as much info as I can on others’ experiences
pretty standard big tech interviews lol, just a couple of behavioural qs and then a leetcode medium
x2
What were the question types?
Like general categories
well one of them was LRU cache
Oh lol
