I'm not a lawyer and you should not take legal advice from me, but from what I understand if you're on f1 opt (not STEM OPT!!!) then volunteer work could still stop the grace period countdown. Better make sure with your advisor/lawyer before making any decision and taking any advice.

bro would keep on payroll till 15th oct so i got some breathing space , i requested him to keep me on payroll till nov 1 but then he was like lets do 15th oct if you don't find something else then let me know i'll keep you till 31st oct but after that i can't help so i was like yeah thats okay . post that you could keep me as a an unpaid swe sort of i'll figure that out and let you know

btw @quaint condor @tight vale @hearty helm @soft torrent bro just called me right now and assured me that I would be with the company till oct 15 worst case nov 1 BUT he would pay me via check and not reinstate me on payroll . then i asked him then does he report somewhere that i(me) am not a part of the company then he says no , don't worry your unemployment clock won't start until oct 15 for now worst case nov1 . I will support you till nov 1 don't worry

so what i assume is whenever we update the end date in SEVP portal that time unemployment days start and its not on the employer atleast on F1 OPT
