add 2 more projects instead
add 3 more bullet points for your QA developer position
i dont rlly have more projects to add rn lmao
i havent done much
and you mean i should have 6 bullet points for the qa position?
yeah u should try to develop more
if you want to stand out tbh
try spending a weekend on a project
yea thats the plan. the compiler thing im working on rn. i just added that
and see how far that goes
alright. ty
seems like a lot no?
would it still be helpful if im more interested in low level work
nah since it's your most relevant experience you've had
it's just hard to find those roles tbh unless you find a company that specializes there
a lot of internships are general internships mainly fullstack focused
yeah agree, you should try to learn everything and then figure out what you want to do after
pick up a couple more internships
I think a general resume has worked for me the best
should i try leanring some of both? back end and web dev?
definitely
oh ok. why do u think so?
lol
by how much
all of internships are general meaning that they look for an intern to match their teams
yea like rn im doing a course thats about computer architecutre and lower level stuff. thats why i was interested in low level positions
oh ok
with a general resume I'm able to match to more teams
idk how to explain how im 24 and barely have any exp lmao
no need to make up for your past just need to focus on the now
I'd just build more projects
and try to learn more technologies
definitely helped me when I was looking for an internship
now I'm mid level so I can specialize
I meant lying that I’m graduating in 2024
Not that I’m 24 years old lol
Ye
I see. So just try to get all the knowledge I can basically
yeah do the coop program at Uwaterloo
and honestly it doesn't matter since they know what year you are if you're part of the co op program
so no need to lie
okey ty guys
was their resume good
but if im waterloo eng wouldnt they expect me to have done more than one coop by then lol
not a part of coop?
or
my coop is mandatory
like u have to have a minimum amount of coop terms to graduate
i think 4/6
sry could u explain why u think a general resume is better. cuz in my mind wouldnt it be better to stick with smthng that u like so that u can gain lots of knowledge about it. rather than a little bit about everything
what do u think as well @peak loom
wait really. but wouldnt most of ur experience be irrelevant for a specialized position tho
ye ok
i wanna finish this course about low level stuff first and then ill look into web dev stuff im thinking
thank you
idk why im basically tryna specialize rn lol
you can't really figure out what you'd specialize in after like 1 project or a class so I'd just stick to doing multiple things especially in college so that you can try out everything. For example if you specialized in backend and a lot of roles are full stack focused, you wouldn't compete with someone who has front end experience too
it's better in the sense of getting more interviews as you'd be able to match to more teams too
alright thanks

y not lol
he’s in engineering he can’t really lie abt grad date coop is mandatory
if u don’t wna do web dev don’t learn web dev and don’t apply to web dev but just make sure that u clearly have the skills necessary to do whatever u acc want and make sure u have that displayed throughout ur resume
@calm oracle @peak loom @valid cliff apart from that any advice for the actual resume
or anyone else
if i spend a weekend learning about js could i put that on my resume lmao
It’s pretty mid
like js under languages
What’s lacking is just quality content
Like a lot of it right now is just not super relevant and once you get better projects, it’ll improve your projects
Yeah definitely
Build a lot and build for scale
Do research/ internships/ find any work you can
ye
I think the best projects are the ones that you can convert to a startup
so like i gotta make something new?
I think small is okay as long as you’re using new tools and enterprise technologies
small is ok to still put on a resume? could small projects still replace my current points. or
Not new but at a larger scale
Yee just depends on where u want to end up tbh
If u want to land a faang one you should definitely try to learn as much as you can
Build your website like there’s like 1000 users for example
So what db designs would u do? What api would u use? Etc
Graphql , grpc , kubernetes, docker etc
ah ok
so if i made something like a reddit clone, designed as if it was meant for lots of users, would that be a good start?
and tbh i dont know where i wanna end up
rn ig i wanna just keep exploring
Yeah definitely
Your goal is to leverage as many enterprise technologies
In place of an internship
i see
im still working on finishing this compiler
so ig that wont be on my resume before the fall coop round
rip
no
dont do any clones
those r usually a red flag for recruiters
try do smthg with a unique idea
behind it
why is that?
