I failed my Google interview in the screening round itself around 8 months ago.

Yes, I didn't even make it to onsite rounds. And here are the reasons I understood at that time.

It was a twisted but simple tree question (not providing exact question due to NDA). I communicated the brute force and optimal approach clearly and went ahead to code.

Received a rejection call even after solving the problem. That's when I realised I wasn't talking through my code and didn't use proper coding conventions even though I got the algorithm right.

That was one of my first learnings while giving interviews.

It's equally important to write proper code (variable names, method names, indentation, syntax etc), and talk what your code does rather than being silent for entire duration.

You don't have to talk through every line, maybe summarising once in a while when you're writing the code should be absolutely fine.

I learnt from these mistakes and improved on them and cracked a bunch of companies later on. Fail, learn, repeat. You'll hit your goal eventually.
