If you truly are in desperate need of experience, take the position. The second you get it, put it on your LinkedIn and resume and just start sending more applications because an extra experience makes your application better. No pay is temporary, experience is forever. Decide what your priority is right now. Keep in mind that right now, you have no job and no experience. This position gets you one at least. Just my $0.02, could be wrong tho 🤷🏻♂️

Make sure u aren’t getting scammed
Imagine bro gets the job today and the ppl say “sorry bro. Happy april fools”
Its very refershing to see that the job market is recovering fast, Im getting many recruiter DMs right now and a lot of callbacks recently
We are saved

WAGMI

took me way too long to realise its april fools
Real?
Oh
Are you going for data science?
Where do you find active job openings for sde other than LinkedIn ?
The biggest skill issue of them all
Trusting someone on April 1

ur moms time complexity is n^2
Anyone with Cisco onsite interview ????
It does look pretty sketchy
have you contacted any other AI interns who are taking part of this opportunity
TC: ?
20 good boy affirmations/hour
Modern day dog ownership and dog culture and its consequences
how would yall answer the following 2 questions:
- What is the most valuable new idea you have learned in the last 12 months?
- Tell us about a time you bent or broke "the rules" to create value.
It is hard in these marketing streets
- Depends on company, but probably something aligned with their industry. I’d they’re a bank say you’ve been reading some finance stuff.
- Very dumb to ask a new grad, almost pointless as interns have negative value to their companies. They want you to lie the correct amount. Personally that’s a red flag for me imo
- I stole from a bank (broke the rules) to get $1 million (created value for myself)
- doesn't have to be crazy, tell them about something you learned in your most recent job experience or project
- it's not that serious, maybe something about rescoping a project/cutting features to meet deadlines and deliver results
Mine is better
pls invest in my startup
kk
I will get back to u in 5-100 business days
my runway is 4.99999 days

Got a recruiter DM is this a sign
I’ve seen those many times. I’ve even got recruiter emails to me about opening roles, but most of them are beyond my experience
Imagine if recruiter DMs on discord
Is there any TikTok, SRE/AML role technical interview question example? just got a 3 round interview
No it’s spam
Sorry
If I ate a whole can of spam I would be approximately 0.2% spam
So it would take 2.5 cans of spam for me to have a statistically significant amount of spam in my body
Achievable, but currently I am not spam
any one know type of lc questions asked in veeva Associate SWE
Easy to light medium stuff like tree & list in java
If you're an international student who has secured a new-grad software development engineer role with less than 3 years of experience, kindly share your insights on this thread.
following.. it seems most got ft offer through internship
lmk if you find anything on this
anyone got admitted to omscs?
any 2022 grad still looking for their first job?
What have you been doing since you graduated?
sorry to tell u this
(don't worry I messed up by not applying for FAANG thinking I wasn't good enough in the same years)
we all in the same boat
lol I actually have been working as a dev since I graduated. Just asking cuz my friend has been unemployed since he graduated in May 2022
so Im curious to see who's on the same boat with him
the reason you would get masters is it gives you 2 more shots at applying for internships
1 before you start the program
1 in between
I finished my masters lol
And how do i payoff the last one and the new one
make up a story about how you did a failed startup in the time in between
good old american debt
My problem is different lol i do have a job i just hate it
Thanks i feel like ive been shouting at a void everytime i say that lol
Felt validated
no worries
glad it worked for you
I tried shouting in the void in #full_timers and got roasted for no reason lol
Sadness
yeah my homie will be in mega debt if he goes for a master lol
have you ever considered putting all your living expenses on credit cards, putting all the money you would have put towards living on your non-bankruptable student loans, then declaring bankruptcy on the credit cards?
honestly probably a skill issue if you graduated in 2022 and haven't found anything
Right. I think for him definitely some skill issues combined with big communication issue. I referred him to both my first and current job and failed both interviews
I thought of faking my death and moving to a corn field in nebraska
😔 ✊
that's a fate worse than death
But silence
not nebraska 😵
I have thought of it sometimes. Like, nothing is gonna happen if you don't pay your student loans. Debtors prison isn't real. You can still walk out in the sun, listen to the birds
what are we really working for
I dont even have loans in this country
only thing that's changing is an integer in the banks computer system
I think it’s a float
nah the problem is that floats will get off in some cases, over many transactions you can gain or lose pennies
depends if it's technical or behavioral but 2022 was like nearly 2 years ago. surely by that point you can get through an interview that just asks a leetcode easy or medium
4 digits for hundredths of cents
and long long int for dollars
at least for wall street
berkshire almost hit the limit at some point
Meanwhile my money barely hits integer
So burnt out of working that I dont even wanna apply to more jobs but the more I wait the more expired I get 🤯
I am super burnt out at my job so i definitely feel it but i kind of have to get a new one
And applying feels so pointless
Kinda like my situation except Id be taking a huge paycut… toronto jobs are in the shitter rn
Here's the reality of the situation: you will maybe get one or two chances, and when they come you wanna be ready.
Im literally ok with a paycut too atp
Oh yea definitely i had a couple of recruiter calls which also went nowhere
LC everyday and be ready fam
I’m able to do once every 2-3 days cuz work just kills my ability to code more lol but yea
The problem is getting the interview 😂
@pliant hamlet hey any tips for Veeva final technical?
Hi everyone I want a little help in the order how i should place topics in my resume for SWE
Order:
- Internships
- Projects
- Skills and Coursework
- Education
- Achievements
- Position of Responcibilities
- Extra Curricular Activites
Do you have any suggestion rearranging the topics. Any advice is welcome.
School skills work projects
Post in #1019675142248468601 and get roasted that's the best way stop wasting time
Same. I realized I don’t like coding…like at all so now I’m trying to see what other areas I can move into but issue is everything / everyone wants years of experience. I was lowkey thinking to move into sales but idk
I dont hate coding, i like development but im also open to pivoting to project management or sales but like you said everyone wants experience and how will i get that experience if nobody gives it to me 😭
Yea we’re in the same boat 😞
If you don’t mind me asking how long have you been at your current job? I’m about to technically hit my 1 year mark @untold flint
Will hit one year next month
So almost same as you?
Yea just about, I got 2 more months. Started as part-time during my final undergrad semester and went full time September
Wanna exchange jobs lol
Bet I’m down
In all seriousness tho if you wanna trade referrals id appreciate that
Yea for sure!
I think May 2022 is still ok, but Dec 2022 is more screwed
You went through undergrad and you realized you don’t like coding at all?
The difference in number of offers between the two years is staggering
Pretttyyy much
I was originally majoring in EE, realized hardware and low level coding isn’t really all that fun. Heard a ton about CS (and the crazy salaries), so I switched into computer engineering instead. Coding was fun initially and I did some cool projects but it’s definitely different in an actual job if that makes sense? Idk lol. It’s just super stressful everyday to me
Interesting. How so
recruiter said i moved to final and asked for my availability for this week but hasnt confirmed the day. updated me 2 days ago saying she just needs to confirm with HM. u think i got ghosted? also is there a possibility they would sched for tmr 😵💫
What is the title of position?
How much would you contribute to working on someone's app just for experience a week and do you think it's worth it? A guy reached out to me asking if I wanted to contribute to his app that's in developmental stages. It's working on the front end, though I'm looking for backend positions but at this point I'm open to anything. No money. He's a software engineer. Could be a good opportunity to collaborate? I've got like 5 hours a week to help. Still trying to get a job
better than nothing, maybe sneak yourself into some backend work as well
Sounds scuffed
but if you're busy then nah
Are we cooked
yesn't
Will a masters save me? (Yes)
yes
i'd only do a masters if you really want to specialize
if your goal is to spend a year or two just taking courses with the same content as undergrad, it's a waste of time
computer vision, machine learning, etc. is good for masters specialties
maybe data science

how do you find that many to apply ?
Blind, handshake, linkedin, dice, online searching
Literally random company name + careers
Also zip recruiter but thats kinda ass
I never heard back from handshake

Its a numbers game idk i just keep applying

@celest whale every morning
I don’t have student loans tho
handshake sucks
anyone know what citadel securities is paying devs these days?
lol
does qualtrics sponsor do we know?
I feel like half the jobs on linkedin or indeed are automated postings written by bots to collect resume data to sell or smth

I’m looking for Resumeworded premium account anyone who has already secured a job and not using it anymore, I would like to buy the account from them
Post on #1019675142248468601 instead it's free and real
Anyone interviewed for the DoorDash Data Engineer New Grad role?
recruiters from handshakes asked me to be a teacher 😂 ... or something completely unrelated to CS
I get that every day
math teacher? i got the same message i guess
They reached out to me for Chiropractor job 💀
per day yeah
Hey folks, I'm a BTech CS grad from the class of 2023, but I hit a bit of a snag—I ended up with 7 backlogs. I've already retaken the exams and am now waiting for the results. As you can imagine, finding a job or internship in this situation feels more like trying to win the lottery without buying a ticket. Any advice on how I can improve my chances of landing a job or internship would be greatly appreciated!
Base or tc?
Thanks for the tip bro
yw
how many did u apply and did they companies tell you that's the issue?
if i applied for a job at a small company and got rejected in november after an interview, can i still apply for it now if that same position is still open? or is it too soon?
Wdym 7 backlogs?
Has to repeat 7 courses
cooked
cooked
cooked
Anyone interview at Jane Street?
Lets collab
Anyone done the Ontario power generation hackerrank?
Finally got an offer, Dec 2023 grad. Can rest for a while now 😮💨
What u mean lol
very nice!
i hope me too some day
Congrats! Where at?
dang congrats. when is ur start date?
Anyone received snowflake OA for data scientist new grad?
Does it say complete test by april 1st but invite expires april 22?
does anyone have any ideas on what project i can make that would be useful while trying to get a job?
i read that whats the point of making a project if you cant really publish it to the web and have real statistics?
yes
22nd April
does anyone know what to expect in snowflake assessment for data scientist intern position?
Let’s get into Jane street
not intern, its a FT role.
does anyone know if theres usually a meta app that opens up for fall grad? or is it summer only
Link?
you havent even gotten auto OAs?
Nope
I can try finding the questions on hackerrank I guess
But the problem was more they only wanted me to do it in Java or c or cpp or python. And I haven’t worked in any of those languages for a WHILE now 🤷🏻♂️ live and learn I guess
Hi guys any one into java backend development using spring/spring boot ?
- CountTriplets, 2. Given preorder traversal of binary tree, validate whether it is a binary search tree, 3. Find max of minima (similar to this one: https://www.hackerrank.com/challenges/min-max-riddle/problem)
bro that max of minima is brutal 💀
Damn besides brute force I got no clue into solving that
Oof
Fr max of minima
Thank god it wasn’t just me
Yeah I think we can use a mono stack
But it’s prob a hard one
What company was this for
If I may ask
literally man, I was able to think of brute force, but other than that, I thought it was similar to 3sum on lc
but i didnt have enough time to be able to get it and on top of that do it in java specifically.
this one honestly, wasn't that hard, my problem was working with collections in java is absolute ass
but tbf i lack practice so probably my fault. screw me i guess
what’s wrong with spring boot
spring boot

skill issue
skill issue for using it or hating it
You have to use Java
Just skill issue
This poll will be biased towards "still in search for a job"
Most users leave the server once they get a job
Or at least become much less active
If you want a better statistic, you should take a look at #2023_gra\
i think mostly the active ones are also looking for employment
or have just recently found employment
but idk
Dw guys
When I will do my PhD I will do a large scale survey
Then I will get back to u
or trolling, but I get you

I meant application link, i checked their website and just applied to whatever there was tho
Fr me
Congrats!
Thanks 🙏. The only issue with my employment is I still need to pass security clearance so I can’t stop searching in case that fails
Technically they just resubmit for you if you don’t pass though, not kick you out
Smart
Hope all goes well
Just don’t let them find ur discord history
Otherwise u won’t get clearance
I finally got my second interview since graduating in March '23 💀 Would it help at all if I mentioned that I work full time in food service so they understand that I'm not a leetcode god or haven't been able to dedicated countless hours to programming outside of work or is it over for me?
eh
they wouldnt care u pass or u fail
It wouldn’t make a difference. At the end of the day, they’re testing for some level of competency in coding and communication skills.
how would a city slicker like me get a clearance job in us gov
What is your background and experience? How many applications have you submitted?
You really don’t want to. The wait times are around 6-9 months
There’s nothing against u not being native born , I know naturalized citizens that get TS clearance
Oh alright
do I need to Java maxx or something
i get auto reject from every govt position
Join the u.s military show ur loyalty to the state
like i have yet to pass a govt screen
Interesting
Why do u care then
If u have meta
Commit to what
If you are a citizen you are a citizen I spent half my life growing up out of country they don’t care
Okay I will spam some more appd
Do they recruit locally or smth? I am trying to find a reason why lol
I can post my resume
Depend if state governments or federal governments agencies
Where did u grow up?
Somalia?
I didn’t grow up bruh I just appeared in my 20s
That tracks
Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR)
man just accept your skill issue don't blame it on economy
i just thought it'd be interesting to share that's all
Bro
Why r u so negative
They just wanted to share a nice article
And u go all doom central on their ass
Hmm
That’s true
Ur right
@brave forge my bad bro
My fault
Why don't you just post here, you know that it looks sus when you have to dm
if you dont say it here im going to think you're scamming
please say it now before i ban you
cheers
hah? this kind of words allowed on this server?
i am a mod, so yes
cheers
you have 5min @dusky cairn
🫡
😆

Where u been? How’s job searching?
i think we should make @fallen fox a mod
i agree
Uh bruh I just got rejected after a final interview. I can’t do this any longer!!! My last interview was back in December.
I need some hopium
what's your resume like?
you don’t wanna know
bad? well then how did you get faang adjacent companies?
no he’s cracked out the wazoo
What he say lol
what company ?
For anyone who interviewed for a NG role, how much different/difficult were NG interviews vs. intern interviews?
I'd say much longer interview procesess / longer rounds
Companies that do 1~2 rounds for intern can do 3~9 rounds for new grad
Does this mean more leeway if you perform bad on an interview in that case?
Yes
is there an argument to say NG interviews are easier?
I wouldn't say the difficulty is easier, but they're easier to pass. Since you have more room for error.
However, I'd say getting a new grad interview is more difficult.
I see, I assume referrals are very useful then
new grad is definitely harder than intern IMO
just based on how many companies have posted intern roles and doing conversion instead of opening a broad NG role
Gotcha
Do the ng OA for Ramp then do the 2YOE one. Ng you have 90mins and you probably won't finish. 2YOE you'll finish in 15 mins.
No way ramp oa is that bad
I’ll do anything for code related jobs lol
Ok I think it’s time to give up on getting a tech job 💀 what’s something that’s easy to get but would we the least horrible on my resume while I keep tryna switch into tech
IT?
McDonald’s
Same
Does anyone interviewed with ASM america recently?
bike shop mechanic
are you guys getting OAs? cuz i sure ain't at all
Fml I've been in the process with a company since October, and final step Gmail decides to randomly mark their reply as dangerous and move it to spam so I didn't see something time sensitive and they moved on with another candidate wtf
gg
holy shit dude
really hope you get something better, that sucks sm
Thanks man 🙏🏻
Fuck it's so easy to just spiral into depression when you've put in so much time and effort and have nothing to show for it 😔
i get it fs
yea one time I’ve decided not to check my email anymore cuz I don’t think I am gonna get any interviews but luckily I checked one time and they sent me an interview invite a week ago but I was left with only 3 days to prepare
Was that an offer waiting for you to accept in the spam folder?
What is your background and experience?
Nah basically for MongoDB you need to allowlist IP address access, so I asked them to send me their IP address in the instructions for my take home assignment, and that email was them sending their address
im about to do truck driving

has anyone graduated in December? What were the prospects like for you compared to others that graduated in May?
i did
i mean not much has changed
some have entry
most are looking for more experience

When did you graduate?
i think may/june 2023 graduates had it a little easier at least for NG
i knew people getting offers without RO, as well as people with no internships
not yet
I thought they had the worst time?
Yeah worst
Good if you Job hunt before December bad if you graduate without job hunting
me fr
it's just in personal experience, the amount of people i knew who found something without RO after graduation (basically lined up) is much higher than for 2024 grads
and i know people who were able to find stuff without internships
i also do feel like many of the companies that canceled or rescinded new grad for 2023 grads didn't even open them for 2024
Not even IT bro, Im givin up on tech 💀 im legit getting rejected from even basic html/css coding jobs
What is ur background and experience?
BS in CS, mobile app dev internship, data science internship, ML undergrad research, technical writing experience in a NASA program, a short term role (3 months) as a jr dev
can i see resume?
Intl? I swear you will be swimming in offers this cycle don't worry
No, from Cali. Wdym this cycle, isnt this year's cycle over 😭
hmm T50+ uni?
could be a location issue depending on where you are applying
starts in july/august again
Since you got these experiences, why you say quit tech?
If you are a us citizen defense jobs are a good path and hiring rn
Are u not getting offers or not getting offers that's >= 200k TC
I was not expecting you here 😆
I’m not getting any offers > 200k 😭
Truly a tragedy of our times
skill issue
Because I can’t get a job in tech
Not even getting interviews let alone offers
Just wait to u will get, trust
Class of 24 is about to graduate, my degree is about to become worthless
Nah people from 2023 applied for 2024
If I can’t get a job now, I got no chance once the new grads get dumped into the market
Applying for the 25 cycle as a 23 grad is not a good position to be in at all 💀 I won’t be considered a new grad anymore
don’t you have 2 or 3 internships?
Yeah I do
Maybe it’s something with your resume? I doubt it and how many jobs did you apply to this cycle
Hundreds
Probably like 240 manual apps and more easy apply apps on top
citizen?
Yeah
Easy apps never work and I hate to say there is something missing did yiu apply only in state
depends on the company
i've seen some take 2022 grads for NG
generally they get filtered out though
Whats your tech stack?
Not even a return offer? How long have you been searching?
Since i graduated last june
could i see resume
for sure
just DM it to me i guess
Yeah pretty much
Has anyone here interviewed for the Data Analyst University role at Microsoft?
Does this seem like an appropriate openner for a linkedin user who is going to make a tech startup in the summer?
"Hello, my name is
nameI've heard fromconnectionthat you are planning to establish a tech startup inlocation. I want to express my interest and availability to join your startup team this upcoming summer.
For my background, I am currently attending Rochester Institute of Technology under the Masters of Software Engineering program. I have internship experience in frontend and backend development with Node.js, React.js, sql and python. Lastly, I have curricular Object Oriented Programming experience with Java.
I would like to learn more about this startup opportunity. If my experience seems to be a good fit, lets connect on Linkedin"
I've never done this before, and I don't want to fuck anything up. This experience is trash, but I'm hoping this appropriately expresses my interest in joining this person's startup.
don't speak so formally if it's a startup-- my personal experience is that startups prefer personality
and say something particular about this person's startup
why r u mentioning the location?
any advice on what projects or certifications to do so that you can stand out more?
It’s intl I think
after thinking about it
i feel like a bachelor's degree is enough to get any entry level job
sure internships would boost you a lot
but you can still make it
What were you thinking about lol
my mom told me i should go into cybersecurity
because she said my degree is useless
and im like that cant be
What’s your degree
bruh
computer science
im assuming every single one of us here is computer science
Ya she wrong cyber security is easily entry able from CS and cyber sec is not a useful degree for no experience people
I work in cyber sec as a CS major
oh really?
thats cool
yeah i heard that
you cant just go into cybersecurity
It’s kinda easy to get into
even if you go to a bootcamp or get a comptia security
Tbh I got asked like one question about one class I took in uni called software security
You could do a minor in it and be fine
Bro go back to the hellhole u came from
^
is cybersecurity really in demand rn?
Maybe I got an offer last week
depends
entry is easy for some places though to be effective I think you will need a decent amount of skill to have some impact
if you want to do cyber I will recommend going to some contest, either red vs blue, ctf or things related
there are a decent amount of beginner welcoming contest that are pretty good
security isnt that easy because you are up against people with a lot of certs
not only certs, you will need to always stay up to date on infos and depending on which area you do it takes a lot of time to understand the inner working of things
but I do know people getting oscp in high school
tf does this mean
HARD disagree
lol thats what im doing
when looking for entry cyber jobs what kind of titles should i be looking for? Like for CS I would look for software developer, software engineer, etc.
usually entry will work, I will just look at the expirences required selection
I will check dods for entries first since there are usually entry year round
My friends recommended CompTIA security+ CE and CompTIA Network+. He also said ICS2 certified in cyber is really easy to get (only a week) and helps a lot
yup these certs are easy
recuirter also know them as well
yup, paying for certs when you don't have a job is risky
if you don't have any fin support
ICS2 certified in cyber is free
Isn’t it security engineer?
I feel like it is from postings I’ve seen while applying for swe roles
But I could be wrong
if i am not wrong i think u low key need em for cybersecurity
unless you major in it
Nah
nah
yeah thats easy no?
I thought it would be more
^
Nah bro
nah
nah
^ basiclly that
Nah
I spent a lot of time running my own blog
whats cve real talk
link
Was it weeb blog?
ahhh
Link to blog or cap
then pretend I'm capping
did you have internships or not really?
you have a job
did you do cybersecurity or?
The age of the jobs
unless you cout cfaang
This is the age of darkness
Did you make the cut? Do you have 0 internships and working at faang?
wait so you would for zuk 💀
reverse uno ahh
well i mean with ur stats i am sure you could reapply
Manifesting Google 2021 intern reach out
damn ur stacked i think my career is ganna be in the shitter 💀
spill the tea we wanna be like you
yo been a while, hows the job search coming along?
the process of job search will result in anyone looking like ur profile picture
Lmao u got emm
No joke the job search destroyed my mind when I finally got the offer I felt more relieved but also veryy empty then I have in the last 3 years
I printed that paper out and was like all this for this one paper
same
What is your coping mechanism? I feel like it’s a roller coaster
for me it was shit posting on discord
Only drugs for me

Hey is there any internal opening role at your YT channel?
for job

in need of it
@steep cove

Bros taking a chance💀
unpaid intern role

yield protect, conduent engineers demand too high TC
Isn’t that normal these days?
yep
I'll be applying for 2025 NG I was wondering if those who already went through the process could share their experience. Aside from the traditional OA and the phone call DSA interviews and Behavioral's. What else will I be need to prepare for? Is it common for them to ask System Design questions
system design is more common for new grad although there's usually some leniency with this just because of how complicated it can be
main thing is that new grad usually has more rounds than intern and at least for the time being is kind of a war zone unless you have a ton of internships (or prev interned there, etc). RO is still the best way to go
What's common is you won't get as many OAs as previous years, let alone interviews because of how bad the market is. So make sure your leetcode is solid so you'll be ready when the opportunity. A few companies ask system design now but it's still rare.
@thick arch I am doing that now and thank god I did cu I don’t know if I would have got something else
What’s about having something is you are guranteed to be working and you can still look. Having something is better for you than having nothing
Thank you for the interest you have expressed in the Associate Software Engineer opportunity with iCIMS. We're writing to let you know that we've recently closed this position due to the needs of the business changing.
We acknowledge this is disappointing news but we are consistently posting new and exciting roles and hope to see you apply to anything that may align with your experience and goals!
They’ve posted more senior, staff, senior staff, and manager roles instead
where did you get a job? I need to get anything at all asap
why not just volunteer to stop the clock
ahh
from what i've seen some internationals can extend the OPT by working full time as a research assistant at their university
pay sucks but you can generally reset the clock that way
Which office you asking about?
Austin is 110k base + 5k joining
Nope unfortunately
Which office you interviewing for?
Yeah, ask them which location you’re being considered for
Which university are you from
I thought I had an offer
I have one but its looking like it might fall through cuz of intl
yea just bad luck after bad luck for me unfortunately
did you check no to needing sponsorship and got fkd?
maybe im missing out on obvious ones so asking, best sites to find new grad swe roles? currently use pitt csc github, untapped, handshake, glassdoor, simplifyJobs, and linkedIn.. missing any good ones?
That's pretty much it. Grind cold email and message to recruiters/manager/engineers as well. That's how I got my interviews after over a year of searching.
where job
In dn
You got a SWE job offer yet?
I just finished some interviews. Hoping for the best. 🙏🏼
How many job applications you submitted and how many interviews you got so far?
past 15 months maybe like 300 apps and 4 interviews only
Im in Canada thats why its so bad
Are you applying for US or Canada jobs?
both
How r u over bro?
Do you need H1B visa to work in the US? You got H1B already?
May 2023 grad?
From which uni in canada
If Canadian, no
Why if Canadian, no?
Diplomatic relations
If Canadian, you can get a TN visa
Calgary
im intl in canada, mega fucked
15 months and only 300 apps?
Debating a move to chicago for good walkablity and low COL. But, I have remote job and I feel like job opportunities in Seattle would be better?
Yes only to new grad positions
honestly most of my apps haven't been to new grad roles
has anyone had their recruiter schedule a call just to say you're at the hiring committee stage? i thought it was an offer call :(
Yea google does this
I didn't bother there's no point in doing those
Yeah I've gotten this, it's good news no?

possibly, not as good as a solid offer tho 😂
when you see a new grad app with grad date requirement
Next call will be offer 😈
also i've gotten many interviews from non-new grad positions, doesn't hurt to try
obviously not the roles with 5+ years exp tho
At the end you'll get rejected tho there's no point there are so many people with 2+ yoe in the market from all the layoffs
2023 grads are expired goods 😞😞😞
idk man you can get lucky, i only had one internship back when i started applying
also having specialized knowledge (most people will just spam resume with unrelated skills)
think the highest YOE that i got interview for was 3-5 with masters (i only had bachelors)
How well would you have to do in the interview for them to pick you over someone with 5yoe and masters
To me it's not realistic
But sometimes they have hidden openings and they might try to fit you in that does happen
depends how much specialized knowledge the other guy has
life is over
Dude you should not be having a hard time lmaooo
why not?
Cuz ucalgary is a good school I thought
Not sure where you heard that. CS program there is low tier.
Rlly?
Maybe for eng
The ones I know in engineering at ucalgary arent doing bad
where they working?
Oil and gas
I thought you meant software engineering lol
Has anyone interviewed for DoorDash NG SDE (Winter 2022 - 23) role? Not 2024 NG
Why you asking?
nah i think they have sys design?
another day another rejection email
why you applying when you can just be a full time influencer
the coding sloth FAANG in 6 weeks bootcamp
the backup plan
@brave forge found a job
u cucked @brave forge
i'll send him the application link
whoever said that amazon has a super low bar was capping man. they reject me so fast
for intern/junior roles
Passing resume screen always has rng factor
i don't think it's that hard to get the OA for intern
Nah these are all explicitly like junior level roles, some internships. Idk if it’s considered an auto rejection because the response is within 24-48 hours. Never interviewed with them before though
Idk what it means to get pipped
its hard to get interviews( due to rng and other factors) but easy to pass them
i thought the "Jr." roles were part time for people still enrolled in school
That makes a lot more sense. I just need ONE (1) interview with them
I don’t think junior roles are ever part time
jr sde in amazon means full time in summer , part time during school
sde 1 is the entry role for fulltime
wow, I actually had no idea. Thats actually even better for me since i'll be starting my masters soon
Junior level? like SDE1?
or are you talking about the "Jr. SDE" role?
Jr SDE is for people getting into 3rd year
can june 2025 passouts do it ?
is it ok to change the graduation date on resume and tell them later ?
all junior
Junior is for undergrads to do until they graduate so auto reject makes sense
amazon has a role specifically called jr sde thats part time for students: https://www.amazon.jobs/en/jobs/2530694/jr-software-development-engineer
amazon.jobs
Amazon is looking for a highly-motivated Jr. Software Development Engineer (SDE)! Jr. SDEs write real software and collaborate with experienced software engineers who provide guidance and opportunities for ownership on projects that matter to our customers. As a year-round intern, Jr. SDEs become fully integrated into their teams and regularly ...
so uh offers. Anyone got any so far?
nope, only one interview next week (my first this season, ~250 apps). im a dec 2023
Question for those who Graduated in December or in general. Are we still Elgible for applying to new grad positions?
Work help desk
What role bruh can’t find anything nowadays
WS
Was
Yeah u could prob even apply next cycle to a lot
For those who recently got offers, how's the comp compared to last year?
Peanuts
Just apply
Changed company but in general it’s a little bit lower
congrats on cucking @brave forge
u r him
I'm gonna off myself and blame it on recruitment companies
why are there so many skull reacts to this 🤨
"Junior SWE" roles are scam. Try to refine your search
IMO just avoid stuff that says staffing and recruiting
i don't trust those companies
Any tips for the LI query?
although be aware that some companies outsource their HR operations to these firms anyway
i think i've discovered this twice
both after someone from the department reaches out to me and then it becomes obvious
what would you recommend?
Just normal Software Engineer roles with entry and mid. Ofcourse you will get 5+ yrs roles
But you will get some good job roles. Also try creating daily job alerts in Indeed, it goves you atleast 60% of the jobs which satisfies your filters
Also try to follow (linkedin)as many recruiters as possible. They often like other recruiters posts and yoy can find some good job roles which are availabke on in their company careers page
I am seeing jobs that align with my skills and exp but.... I am Intl and I am fucked
Rly send some over lol
I can’t find anything to apply to
Do you have 2-3 YOE
cuck master
i have a final round tomorrow so hopefully i can clutch it out
comp i doubt will be amazing and neither will the stability but i'll probably have enough flexibility to ride it out with my current non-SWE job
What non-SWE job you got? How many years of experience?
How are u intl 23 grad with no job still? Or are yoi working some other job to stop the clock?
sales and supply chain with a company that makes gaming machines (i have enough presence in gaming scene and we have some more technical products which my CS degree can help me with)
Working under my professor. I had RA so continuing the same work till I get job
How much does RA pay?
Peanuts. $2K for 22hrs a week
Not bad as a means to stop the clock
Yeah
2K for 22hrs/wk? That is $90/hr lol. Haven’t seen any RA that pays that much.
Maybe he means per month not per week
Yeah my bad. Its like Stipend
22hrs is the working hours a week
why not apply for jobs in your home country at this point
i saw some data science jobs on upwork like asking you to build model and writing 5 pages research papers... what's that?

How bad does it look if I schedule an appointment with a recruiter and accidentally cancel and then reschedule immediately
I hope this email finds you safe and well!
I’m reaching out to provide an update on your application for the role of Application Developer. It is with regret that I have to inform you that IBM is no longer actively hiring for this position. I understand this will be disappointing news, especially during these uncertain times. I would like to reassure you that this is not a reflection on the quality of your application.
Common reasons of rejecting candidates these days
Immediately?
Hmm
Are you telling them you accidentally cancelled it?
Just lie
Yea it was me accidentally fat thumbing the cancel button when closing out of safari
And yea it was immediate
They probably don't care, just truthfully explain why if they even care enough to ask
Do you want the same time?
We've all fat fingered before
If so explain honestly
Yea
Yea then just do it
I rescheduled for the same time right after
If you want to seem smart or whatever say you're switching email clients and wasn't used to the new UI
can anyone refer me to a company in the states that pays well? DM me
@fringe prawn gz where from
You? What position?
SWE at an internet SaaS startup
people here are cracked
i'm probably going to try to keep it on top of my current position because the outsourcing risk is high
but i should be able to do it
did u get verbal offer?
@forest scarab how is your job search?
not good wbu
Can anyone refer me to any company in the states or Canada with livable wage 🙃
I can refer you to a job @ Indian sweatshop for $3500 tc
are you a canadian citizen
can't you work IT for ottawa or something
Yes
Oh like you mean government?
yes
They said my bioinformatics degree doesn't qualify for IT roles, even though I've taken 12 coding courses and had 2 internships 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Where did u apply
Or did you reach out
CRA, told me I didn't qualify after I did the OA, after months of being in the process 💀
So yeah would appreciate anything, anywhere 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Damn 😭😭😭
Are you in Ottawa?
No
Nah Calgary/Vancouver, but open to relocating
does meta ng accept >1 years out of school but <2 yoe
Yea
is production support a good place to get your foot on the door?
Depends where
how so
i've realized how screwed up the market is
interviewer says their daughter was a CS major and quit SWE 😂
why would they tell u that 💀
Looking for son-in-law
Tell him she may have quit SWE but her SWEETIE will never quit on her. Now did I get the job or what??
@fallen fox
Any tips on not feeling sad
anyone here got a job?
Nope nobody 😭
do you all put university at top of resume? I went to a middle tier school
i do, i'll probably stuff it at the bottom once i get a couple of years full time
anyone do deliotte interviews for buisness technology?
Wazzzup
If you have work experience after university then I’ll put work experience over education else education goes on top
thoughts on doing a master's? i've been looking for a year+ with nothing
Prob focus on ML if you take it
average 2024 swe job posting

have you given up on internal transfer to swe
yes
all internal swe roles are in bangalore
Bangalore is a nice place though. It's the tech hub of India.
Heavy traffic and water crisis
The same can be said about any mid/major city in America.
No way 12 yoe did you pick a staff SWE position?
No just SWE. Their pay is 💩 for 12 yoe in CA lol esp with those insane requirements
if ur from india, easy way to get job
homie US traffic is heaven compared to Indian traffic
oci or bust
Yea but in India, lots of people travel by train. There are local trains and even trains that go to different cities. I can't think of a single city in India without a train station. Metros are also becoming popular. If you live in NYC, you have the subway, but in other cities, traffic is inevitable here in the US
also, Indians have autorickshaws which makes road travel 100x better no matter how bad traffic is

A crazy stampede was filmed at a train station in Mumbai, India, as hundreds of people battle to get onto a train. Subscribe for more: http://bit.ly/newsflare
The train chaos was filmed by a worker, who regularly visits the station. He filmed the crazy train stampede to highlight the problems of overcrowding on trains.
We've trawled the archi...
@oblique harbor I would rather sit in my car than this tbh
hi yahk
if u use mail tracker at least u'll know if they read it
You find one video and think whole country is like this
.
most of India is a shithole
source: am literally Indian

Gotta love the 5lpa frontend Angular dev roles
just installed it lol
Me and yes SD was in the final.
I finished DoorDash final. Dm if you are waiting for result. I am too Dont spam me.
Did you get the job?
No…
what does witch stand for?
“Waiting for result”
Any international who graduated in May'23 still looking for a job? I can't be the only one
Depends on what kind of job
dec 2022

What chu been up to?
I can help you to do interviews and job hunt👀👀👀 if you 💰 me.
DW I know a few… some are back to their sweet home already. You are standing strong if you are still inside the U.S. 🫂
Can you stay in the US by marrying a US citizen?
he has a job he just likes larping as unemployed
wipro infosys tcs capegimini hcl
5 shithole outsourcing corpos
they mass hire people for like $3500/yr
in India andmake you work like a slave
3500 a year is mad
the crazy thing is they used to pay that much in the early 2000s
they haven't changed entry level salary in 20 years

Oh I heard some of those names but the acronym was wimp
and to my knowledge they're still shit here
Revature keeps trying to reach out to me for a position, and I'm like "pass"
well I'm almost a year out since graduating and no swe job so maybe
not that desperate tho
hopefully this interview in like 10 min will fix that
lol gl
Getting in the train is chaotic but once you're in it's smooth sailing. With a car, it's easy to get in but morning traffic is painful. Take your pick
Where are u interviewing
me but im in canada
intl is auto loss
not trying to jinx it, so you'll find out if I get an offer
What roles
Those who started their Full time role as new grads and made the jump to a new company after a few months. Did the new company ask you the reasons of leaving your new company??
they will always ask you why you're looking for a new opportunity....even after you've worked at your company for years
nvm lol i misunderstood your question lmao
curious about this too. Specifically 'new grads who made the jump to a new company after a few months.'
you planning to do this too?
@void prawn no not necessarily, I'm just curious about how those ventures have gone for those who decide to do so. Im a dec 23 grad still applying/interviewing right now actually
oh gotcha
This is an awkward question to answer so I know a lot of people just leave their most recent role off their resume if they're still job searching, and that way you don't have to answer this question
I have an interview coming up on Ruby on Rails,, except I've never used it before. Anyone have good recommendations for learning resources?
Make up any reason
I never put my most recent if it’s under a year.
Other than intern.
the hardest part is finding a new job with only a few months experience
the rest is moot
For unemployed may ‘23 grads who aren’t going for a masters: why?
sorry for cross-posting but figured I'd mention it here too, for any fall 2023 grads who haven't had luck finding a job lol. I work for UCF as an Applications Programmer I and we're hiring. Before you say anything, yes, the pay is not great. But it's also quite lax (nearly no deadlines at AP1) and the people here are great to work with. Here's the link!
https://ucf.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/careers/job/Orlando-FL-Main-Campus/Applications-Programmer-I_R107942-1
The Opportunity: The Applications Programmer I position works in a collaborative environment serving the needs of digital learning at UCF. Along with seasoned and talented junior developers, the team member will contribute to the overall strategic, standards-based software programming and architecture of instructional technology applications/pro...
Hasn’t there been a bunch of stuff going around about UCF not paying their employees that well? 💀 but ngl I’ll give it a shot
Also it may seem like they're asking for 4 years experience on TOP of bachelor's, but I got in with just my CS bachelor and showing my webdev senior design project, so. As long as you have webdev experience, you're on good standing to get to final interviews
I used to work for UCF as a techranger actually
dude what!! that's awesome!
and yeah lol we don't get paid all that much compared to corporate or FAANG in general, but it's far more relaxing and you get dental/medical/vision benefits so it's a decent trade-off.
True. Back when I was a techrangers I was getting paid like 13 an hour 💀 but at least I got some work experience for my resume
for those uninformed, the Techrangers are our parttimer team! Our team is set up of fulltimers and also parttime UCF students. Feel free to check out our site: https://techrangers.cdl.ucf.edu/
The Techrangers® is a team of students at the Center for Distributed Learning, who provide course development for faculty and web/application development for...
i wouldn't relocate to florida for a position that could be canceled on a minutes notice
yeahhh we've been trying to get them paid more since. We've bumped it to 15 now, which isn't fantastic either but it def does help get you through the door when you graduate. Some of the TRs leaving our team when they graduate already have Google and Microsoft offers
Fair enough. I mostly send it for those that already live here since we unfortunately don't cover relocation. I will say the job security here is crazy good. We've only fired people that were purposely being horrible at their job or not showing up at all ever
I actually asked Jacob Bates (pretty sure he still works there and you might know him) write me a rec letter recently. Great team to work with for sure
He actually left our team in March 🥲 he was essentially an AP4. He ended up with a lot of managerial duties, and he wanted to get back to doing more dev work (understandably) so he migrated to working as a Lead Director of Dev tools for a company for which we helped build an app for (UDOIT)
But agreed, the team is great and there's a lot of opportunities to collab and make solid changes to apps that both faculty and students will see live at UCF. You end up doing less dev work the more you move up, but if you want dev experience for a couple years or so, it's not a bad spot to start
sorry for clogging the channel y'all. if you have any questions about the position, you can email lst@ucf.edu and one of us fulltimers can answer any questions you have
Bc I’m stubborn and ran out of tuition aid so idk wanna pay for grad school tuition
im trying to see if its worth interviewing after i start my new grad role in september
or wait another year to try to jump
what i fear is they (new companies) asking why you wanna leave after 1-3 months of being at the company. At the time of applying maybe I shouldnt write my current new grad position in the resume at the time??

basically nobody is hiring new grads with 1-3 months of experience
it’s effectively worse than not having a job because it looks really bad to leave that soon
you should either stick at your job for 1 year (better, 2+ years) and then leave, or leave your company off your resume
makes sense, I think I'll just leetcode and practise system design and recruit from 2026
how do u kno if u've been rejected after final? recruiter hasn't replied to my follow up
if not response:
return
🫡 stand strong soldier i have a lot of respect for you for resisting the defense industry
eh
thing with defense is that quite a few of those jobs actually want you to have a current clearance
and not even that
TS/SCI
i really don't think it's as easy as people say
Thanks interview today went well and hopefully this will lead to an offer
It’s not that, the university basically has a pipeline into defense
^^
So people at our uni have a really easy time getting into Lockheed, L3Harris, etc.
bruh my dad really wanted me to apply to lockheed and l3harris but i guess I was just being rebellious but I refused to apply to them and now here I am. I sold man smh
uh finished final last week and saw on linkedin they created a new post yday for the role i applied. does this mean i got rejected lol
in the cases i've had this happen to me i've been rejected
why cant they just reject right away 😭
im employed and doing a masters in fear of layoffs 😭
Praise defense, only reason I’m not still unemployed
Nah I'm with @mellow glade on this, defense is a no go and thats for moral reasons
My sense of morality is no longer stronger than my desperation for a tech job 🫠
I just can’t land a defense job anymore hahahahahahahaha
Bro my sense of morality went out the window when I have to work wage jobs for 16/Hr
I’ll gladly take blood money for 45/Hr
Do you even make 45/hour rn
defense is for boomers and boomer mindset nerds
recruiter asked for my availability on wednesday and they still haven't gotten back to me 2 days later
is it over?
looks like its over
For what company?
random f500 in NJ
Prudential :)))))))))))))
a floridian
im a gator
Are December 23 grads at a disadvantage/risk of being gapped compared to May 24 grads rn, or is it still considered the same from a hiring pov?
dec 23 - may 24 all count as 2024 grads
Ur fucked it’s over
Your conferred year of graduation is your grad year
How do I know if she likes me? She hasn't responded since the first date
