they couldve sent the wrong rejection msg lol
same thing happened to me. i figured they just playing games with me and tbh we just gotta keep moving forward.
I'm assuming so, just awful behavior imo. Gotta move on to the next one
i have to leetcode for another 12 hours
The hallmark of my application journey. I sent them my transcript and they ghosted me. I can tell my family I almost got a job at Google.
Do it tomo rest up
do u think veeva accepts people who rest
You gettin the offer 100%
No, I got rejected
Well ghosted actually
After a face to face talk
yo what 💀
i had my face to face today
i didnt get oa yet
Career fair?
no
Oh
This was at a career fair
Exchanged PERSONAL numbers with the recruiter
Still got ghosted
well i did my best today hope they contact me soon 😭
Hope they do 🤞
@rain patio
🧤
what was your question?
How much time did the person give you to solve
int to roman, 1 hour
but had to explain every single thing i did before allowed to code it
and the guy didn't really understand the solution I was writing, which slowed things down a lot
wtf
i mean clearly he was trying to guide me towards the typical solution. but it was pretty insulting to be "guided" towards a worse solution, while the interviewer acts like you're an idiot
Yeah that sucks
Also I’m Ngl the o(1) solution is the first thing I thought of….what is the O(n) solution
Yeah so the recruiter just doesn’t know then?
Gotcha
the maximum roman numeral in existance is 3999
There are no more roman numerals beyond that. I took the chance to explain how an O(n) solution could be written, but because of the limited range of representable charactears, an O(1) solution is optimal.
This is literally the conversation this question is designed to have
To show deeper knowledge about how certain problems may not benefit from a infinitely scalable solution.
And a LUT is optimal. A great example is trig on old video game consoles
The fact the interviewer didn't know this, wasn't familiar with the O(1) soluition, and couldn't converse about it on a deeper level doesn't give me confidence in the company
The solution the geico interviewer wanted me to write, he insisted it was O(n)
Whole thing just confirmed why F500 has no engineering prestiege
Yeah I mentioned it up front, and made it clear what I was doing. I asked what the max number was, he said 4000, I said yep roman numerals don't go above 3999. So therefore we can write a constant time solution. He said "hmm I don't think so but ok". Then I did it and he couldn't comprehend how it was constant time
so it's just kind of a joke
you can get an interviewer who doesn't know the concepts they are supposed to be testing you on
also: funny joke. 5 YOE for an associate
If you wrote integer to roman in O(n) what are u even doing
wait did u get the offer or haven't heard back yet?
didn't hear back yet
u prolly got the offer tbh
just moaning about how dumb this interview process is
Also geico pays less then my current company so it doesn't matter
why bro interviewing😭
I was hoping to practice interviews for FAANG
but it's just not a faang level interview
I mean, GEICO is 109k TC in LCOL and remote, so...
Pretty solid for remote
Most NGs make less while not being remote and in higher cost of living
People here just have a distorted sense of what the typical NG offer is. They think 200k TC is normal for NG when that is less than 1% of offers.
The algorithm is still O(n), it was just bounded to some integer, so it is O(1). If you bounded a exponetial algorithm by some n like n <= 1000, it is O(1).
Generalized algorithm vs bound specific algortihm
So, you are both correct in a way.
Optimal preformance isn't a key goal of software engineering anymore.
Only very specific fields within swe is that a goal these days
Wait what is the o(1) solution 💀
the fact is that there are only 4 digits that can be one of 10 permutations. So you just get the correct string for each of those 4 digits and concatenate them.
Yeah geico fumbled you don’t trip 💀
not yet i just had the interview
^
I mean sure but for this problem the cleanest and most logical approach is to just handle the 4 place values
Anything else is excessively convoluted
any jobs 😭
veeva in kansas is hiring
false info, shoo away
they are, I have interview there. Wait did you say Veeva, I thought you said Jamba
no, McLean is the new california

no, Bentonville is the new california
filled with rich white assholes?
gives you the opportunity to try for grad-only internships, and another shot at new grad roles. But tbh you will see more of a pay increase from 2 years of SWE experience over 2 years of CS masters
tbh most companies don't give any pay increase for masters because their roles for masters candidates are actually a sneaky way to hire h1b
since many indian students do BS in india, then MS in USA
its an easy way to say "look there are no qualified US candidates with a masters degree, we need h1b"
personally I would do masters only if you can't find a role after 1-2 years of job searching
well they get screwed as much as anyone. the companies use the fact they need to be employed to keep h1b, knowing they can't quit
so they work em harder
yes
yes I am
same for everyone
thanks
internships are a multiplier on your success rate. But 3x chance on 0 jobs availible is still 0
not your fault. Its terrible political issues. The amortization of SWE taxes over 5 years was a bill that was supposed to be a barganing chip and they accidentally passed it, dumb politicians
and at the same time interest rates went up crazy
It's literally like 2008 for software engineers right now
nobody in other industries understands it
but its bad
Yeah no worries. This whole thing has made me realize how much our lives are controlled by these dumb numbers in banks and government
which opportunity do you have rn
those outcomes are historical. probably based on the past few years. so it was realistic then.
Those average pay metrics are collected by surveying alumni
Ppl without jobs just don't fill out the surveys
yeah no that's a lot. def not worth it. Georgia tech MSCS will cost you 10k and be just as respected
alot of people at apple do MSCS while working there using the tuition assistance
online is what I'm referring to, don't know about in person
no way
google says 3 years
GA tech site says 3 years
and it's assuming you are a full time working person
3 years is if you do it part time
Most ppl doing OMSCS are part timers, so they have a ft job on the side
But you can get internships I'm pretty sure
I've seen people on LI with internships from OMSCS
Its meant for internationals and ppl without a cs background looking to pivot
Eh i don't see why not. Not quant, they want you to be perfect from birth so unless you had prestiege undergrad it wont count. But roblox for sure
but also roblox will take georgia tech too
Don't reject yourself before you apply
so... not really gaining anything for the extra money
Tbh if you're just doing it for an extra shot at internships
And dont need sponsorship
get OMSCS
yeah that was my problem. I never applied to any FAANG because I doubted myself. Now in hindsight I realize many FAANG people are way less capable than me but just have confidence and shoot for the moon
Guys does tiktok even reply after OA ???????
Iirc tiktok oa is automated
So only after passing do they consider your resume
So its possible to pass the oa and not hear back
Has anyone given smartsheet interview? Please dm
@rain patio
are you employed or still job hunting?
it costs like 8k and is mostly prerecorded videos
they want to make as much money as they can
yeah that’s why a lot of ppl do it
and isnt georgia tech a top school?
fair enough ig
most MS programs are like 70k cash cow anyways
yeah
unless its a higher prestige place like mit and cmu
because those have some top notch research
MIT doesn’t have masters for non MIT undergrads
CMU does but it also has a ton of cs-adjacent cash cow masters
only ones that are worth are the masters that give you an RA and you can waive tuition
yeah so no value in actually doing a masters
phd or nothing
i mean why is that a bad thing?
do you wanna do a research based grad degree?
congrats
Thanks! Just applied!
yeah its weird since you did have multiple internships
so resume isnt the issue
unless you just dont know how to talk about that exp
you have to be careful cause some cash cow also have terrible course offering and instruction, or low ranked
any jobs ?!!
That’s amazing man. Congrats!
cause meta offer is: 137k base, 18k sign on, 150k/4 years stock, 10% target bonus
17.5k reloc, 12k E3 refresher, 2k wellness benefit, up to 11.5k 401k match,
Free breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and ammenities in office, free transporation (ex metrocard)
no cliff of stock, larger refreshers with perf multiplier
I’ve debated applying to Columbia but im not 1000% sure yet, I think if I don’t hear back from UIUC in 2-3 weeks I’ll apply
Columbia for online has rolling admissions, Georgia techs deadline for online is March 15
No not yet, I’m hoping UIUC MCS in Chicago gets back to me soon but I’ll apply if I need to
do u need personal statement & letters of rec for UIUC?
Personal statement yes, letters of recommendation no but I think they help
Latest decision date is mid April but I’m hoping for sometime early-mid march
when was it due
I think GTech is your best bet if you haven’t applied to anything yet
That’s amazing man. Congrats!

anyone know if deloitte reached HC
Are you doing it part-time?
If you aren't working in chicago while doing it, its way better to do it oncampus
yeah part time, I got a full time remote offer and I wish i wouldve applied to regular on campus but oh well I think being in the city will be fun (hopefully)
Company where I got full time offer tho has hq in Chicago and free food and things so thats nice
Why part time ms if u got full time job already?
I find distributed systems really interesting and they have a good program for it LMFAOOO but not a huge reason
can attest distributed systems with indy is epic
@rain patio
🧤
how much time do we 23ng have left?
There still time
You can do interns while pursuing omscs I knw a lot of ppl are doing that, but tbh most of them are working FT alongside this program It's a part time program takes 3 yrs to finish wasting too much time if you want to study for ft
Not Gonna Make It
is it the accelarated program? 5 years undergrad + master
yeah u would think
@fallen fox
@tame knoll not interested
we won't die there're tons of other jobs we can do
There are other tech related jobs sdet, sqa, it engineer, it support. or maybe just work in another field. I know ppl who could get any CS job back in 2013 and then transitioned to the marketing/business field. his career is pretty good now
🪢
Anyone received Amazon assessment recently?

whats the best way to ask manager whether I am getting RO or not without looking needy
if sde doesn't make that much do you still want to work for this?
/r/cscareerquestions said that you should be homeless u r not pasisonate about it
My mom wanted me to be a dr, so she told me swe doesnt make good money lol
But the only thing im decent at is coding so 🤷♂️

Do u guys know anything about meta qualification screening interview? I feel like I’ve never heard of it before it’s usually just technical interviews
is this the third interview?
No first after recruiter screen
Autocorrect mb
Strange I've never heard of that one. Assume it's just going over your background etc.
Hey, is there a chat somewhere for Bloomberg London New Grads that start working this year?
Anyone has the Amazon assessment guide? That covers the 'Work Simulation' and 'Work style surveys'?
Check #server-links
Just say yes to over time
As effective strategy
U should be fine
I said no
And never got an interview
damn, seriously?
Only reason i can think of
And base off few other people response that didnt get interview who got perfect oa score
They also didnt put overtime as most effective strategies
When dealing with deadlines
thanks for those tips!!
When recruiters ask "are there any other interviews or offers you are anticipating in the meantime"
what should I say? What is there intention with the question?
you lie (rot) in the bed that you've made yourself. That can either be living with your parents or getting a job in retail
This is a purely hypothetical question and has nothing to do with me right now.
But if a company gave you the option between working in Chicago and NYC, What would you pick? Assume you have no family or friends in either place and are from the west coast so would be relocating far away either way. Also assume that the projects/work in both places are equally interesting and the salary is also the same when considering cost of living. The only difference is location.
Chicago > NYC if car
Else NYC
No car in either location for this hypothetical
chicago. I hate NYC. Depends on the kind of environment you enjoy I'd say.
nyc
thats an easy choice come on
nyc period. finding a sugar mommy running her own biz empire or dating trust fund baddies then marry, retire before 30, being full time house husband. was joke but I love the social scene here in the city. Parties, shows, entertainment
Depends. How good are you at handling winter?
Also, I disagree. NYC isn't that good lmao
Doesn't make it a "good world city" lol
Also its probably close with LA
comes down to preference at some point
if your life/family is closer to NYC like if u live on the east coast you may have reasons to be there
I think I personally like chicago, but I probably wouldn't have chosen it before interning there and experiencing it bc I just didn't know
has anyone done panel interviews at Cloudflare?
What should I expect/prep for?
Yes
Went to college in a snowy place
Then you can consider Chicago. Its a lot more laid back than NYC (I've only been to NYC for a week tho)
It really comes down to the pizza for me - do I want to eat Chicago deep dish pizza or new York style pizza?
People in Chicago don't eat deep dish that much from what I've seen
Its more like a once a year meal
Unless you want to only live till 30
Well I've never had deep dish pizza before. I'd like to try it once. And authentic ones, not the frozen ones you get at Walmart.
Bro thought ohare was oblock
Chicago would be my ideal job location id really like to stay east coast
Has anyone interviewed for Apple Health team?
@rain patio
🪢
It really depends. I personally really like living in NYC. I used to live in NYC back in 2017 it was nice, and I had a lot of good memories. But I don't know what it's like now in NYC.
any 23 grads still looking lol
yeah, working but still looking
wat kinda job
web dev in a marketing dept
what happens if i dont find job after 2 yrs
you know what to do
You join militaru
yep no entry level jobs here
yes
feels like my life has no meaning rn
Social construct
Same
r u still job searching also
Where are people looking for new grad jobs? I feel like linked in has been very empty this month
when do you graduate?
I graduated lol
Oh I read “where” as “when” I’m sorry
LinkedIn, word of mouth, friends of friends tbh, that pitt scs thing
Surprisingly a lot of my friends found jobs from knowing the right person
E.g someone they interned with a summer or two ago was working at a company and they were hiring -> they referred / let someone know to apply -> apply and get job
I found my current job bc I had a friend interning there and they told me I should apply to be a new grad
And I said k
And that’s it
Ahh ok cool cool thanks !
when did u graduate
Well if u know someone dm me haha
May 2023 ://
same can i dm
I think these days with a declining market your network is probably the best way you get a job
like back in 2020 / 2021 you could get jobs from applying to whatever on LinkedIn
So I will just pm random people and ask for references?

Of course
Feel like I wasted my time doing cs tbh
i wouldn’t say that’s very beneficial. I think I was just very fortunate to have met a lot of people in internships so we had rapport
I’m not sure if randoms would’ve done the same favors for me

Best guess would be career fairs in your area to find people to network with
i feel pathetic. to those still job searching, what keeps u guys going

giving up is cringe
Student loans
Plus I want to make money to travel
how do u fill ur time to not feel depressed tho
Usually play a video game, hang out with gf/friends, or watch some show or movie on a streaming service
Can’t code/prep for technical interviews all day
where you get these money from
Wdym
rent, bills etc
Oh I live back home
ah
Yea I can’t imagine how it is for people who can’t do that
work 3 jobs afas I know
Bruh
leave house, grind lc at library, coffee-shop, drive somewhere new, try new things
where am I even supposed to apply to jobs, it feels like more than half the postings are garbage all around the common sites
- walking
- gym
- biking
- music
- hanging out with friends
- eating
- watching movies
naw, if ur like in dire circumstances (no interviews for months), its reasonable
also if ur a career switcher or u really want some niche position
idk go do omscs while applying for internships
welp figure out if there's another path b/w u and ur goal that doesn't involve an expensive 2-year commitment
if that's all u can think of or there's some other experience to be had you can't get elsewhere then go 4 it
(i say this as someone finishing their masters this sem)
jus not be depressed dawg ez
im so depressed all i can focus on is leetcode to make more money
(I'm not really depressed)
but i might as well be nothing good happens 😔 just grind for leetcode to fail at interviews to wonder why i suck and then grind more leetcode
@rain patio
.
used to come here for info, now it’s just filled with the same few people spreading negativity everywhere 💀
facts
this server is gone to shit lmao
and spamming ngmi gifs
deadass like maybe if you spend more time off discord you’ll see better results
what no job does to a mf
if u think this is bad don't go on r/csmajors
the doom there is like
this server better even tho everyone spams ngmi and dooms
WAGMI
wagmi copium hopium dopium
pepperidge farm remembers when doom posting was called spreading FUD
Nah fax, it’s just making this place depressing seeing everyone spam that stupid ngmi gif everyday
Hey I still spread positivity and stream the grind 24/7
The thing is ng is closing up and there’s not much to be excited for in March. First it was wait till the new year , now it is wait till summer for December jobs
The most exciting thing this month has been Amazon sending OA to some people
I mean I get it, I'm a may2023 grad and it's march and no job, but seeing people spreading that doomer mentality isn't gonna help anyone and just makes it hella depressing to look in here
Also why would you read 2023 grads this is a dead channel for people that haven’t gotten a job coming up on a year they are expired, reduced, gone, you should mute this channel and move to #2024 grads
bruh
I just said I'm a may 2023 grad
also good job spreading that positivity like you said a couple messages prior
I’m a 2024 grad
I don’t need to be positive about 2023 grads
If I’m still here in 2025 I’ll be right there with everyone else dooming
That’s 12 straight months of leetcode grind, enough to cause brain damage
I actually don’t even know how I ended up on this channel
so you just come in here to spread that doomer shit for shits and giggles
Na just reminder to grind harder so I don’t end up roaming #2024 grads half way into 2025 😭
But I’m sure you’ll make it the jobs just around the corner, maybe.
Tbh nobody on a job search server is happy they would be enjoying life not here fking grinding leetcode 24/7 and applying to whatever scraps of jobs release
what year you graduated shouldn’t matter. it’s as simple as if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say it. i get that some people are losing hope, and it’s obviously ok to be negative every once in a while, but making it ur daily routine to spam ngmi gifs is pathetic
There’s literally a dude in here who every message is that stupid gif he sends like once a day
That’s true, but the idea of this channel is to help each other, not just sit here and cry everyday over not making six figures at faang or over every rejection.
Also coming in here saying using people in here as motivation to not become “expired” is hella fucked.
@fallen fox
Positive note it allow us to know he still alive and grinding and not 🪢
Doesn’t excuse him to put others down
less competition
ive seen much worse shit in this server than the ngmi spam

Plz report it next time you see it
@rain patio from now on spamming ngmi will not be allowed
truly the end of an era
yo just curious
the answer is:
cause meta offer is: 137k base, 18k sign on, 150k/4 years stock, 10% target bonus
17.5k reloc, 12k E3 refresher, 2k wellness benefit, up to 11.5k 401k match,
Free breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and ammenities in office, free transporation (ex metrocard)
no cliff of stock, larger refreshers with perf multiplier
this is for junior positions like 2 yoe right
how often do yall feel like you did well on a technical interview and then get rejected?
nope, actual new grads lol
lmfaoo
reinterview for like 2022 interns?
nope external new grads
or not traditional swe ng?
the guy i was coding with on my stream got it
not university swe ng right
external new grad university swe 2024 graduates
or was it recruiter reachout
it was a real new grad job
oh
no not recruiter
they are actually hiring for ng, externally without previous intern
or could be intern conversion
jk
wait
asking because i had what i feel like was a really good technical interview, a few days ago but im anxious that theyll still reject me cause someone else is a genius or something
how come it wasnt in the #grad_postings_old channel then
also wouldnt this server have exploded if zon was hiring bunch of external ng
i think they gonna hire like 1 just to meet federal laws
since they are federal contracter so they have to post ng swe link if they do intern conversion
but after hiring their 3 cracked candidates who end up all reneging bc they all were cracked enough to get something better then zon wont bother much i think
what when did i say i was not dooming
we had an emotional speech to convert the server to a positive vibes only space
well everyone missed it
not US it looks like
scroll up then
oh
someone who got it was ireland
too lazy
no it is usa lol
the guy i leetcode with literally got an invite to the DynamoDB role and so did other americans here
hes international also
ng?
isnt that "Software Development Engineer, DynamoDB"
thats industry role
ng means specifically through student program and they arent hiring externally rn
link? i dont see anyone mentioning it on zon discord
did you not read his message
"ng means specifically through student program"

im illiterate dont blame me
No point thinking about it now
Youve already finished the interview, right?
Its out of your hands now
there is a point
never
Move onto the next application
it causes elevated heart stress so he ropes sooner
bc i had almost no technical interviews
and gets grey hairs

that is useful
Stay PMA
yea youre right
im just gonna keep my hopes low so i dont get dissappointed
its more like the interviews i feel like i did bad on i get good news back
Reported

anyone have exp with 402d software engineering group - robins afb? How is it like?
@rain patio and @pliant hamlet we no longer allow the spamming of those gifs
Niiice
damn i missed out
Bro has some sort of personal vendetta against me
Some ppl complained
maybe its time to hang up the towel
Thats basically it
Damn might as well archive this channels

@chilly burrow do you know when this channel is gonna be archived
Yea prob around when 2025 hiring picks up
literally 1984
real
The ngmi gif reminded me that I’m not alone in suffering

FROM DOOMER TO BLOOMER

is this what ropepito gonna post everyday now
dang, who hacked into your account
loving the new ropepito
Give this man an award, or a trophy
give him a job
is this worth doing? I can't seem to find any personal projects where all this is actually necessary
#personal_projects message
how do we pin this?

I need y'all's opinions. I am a new grad with a masters degree.
CURRENT ROLE:
- Employee at a small company at the Bay Area since start of this year.
- I have been contracted to work at a F500 company (store that sells things at cheap prices, locations in US and Canada) but the small company is my employer.
- Salary is $80k/year (Bay Area). No benefits, no PTO (paid time off), no sick days, no vacation days.
- Living with my parents so don't need to pay rent and my expenses are very minimal
- There is a shuttle near my home that takes me to the office for free so I don't need to pay for transportation/gas.
NEW ROLE:
- Offer from MBI backwards (don't want to say the actual name and have people search the company and see my message)
- Salary is between $105-110k a year. Way more benefits (sick days, vacation days, PTOs, you name it).
Better name brand and not a contract employee - Will need to relocate to Chicago, pay for rent, food, maybe transportation depending on where I get housing and if the company offers free shuttles to the office. I am ok with a small, simple place. All I need is a roof over my head, a bed to sleep on, and a bathroom to shower/do business in.
So while the new role is paying more, I will have a lot more expenses too. I imagine rent in Chicago isn't low. I wouldn't be surprised if after rent, food, etc. I am saving less than what I would be saving in my current role.
What would you do in my shoes? Assume that the work/projects are equally interesting/appealing in both companies and approach this from a pure financial/benefits standpoint.
Thanks guys
Option #2 actually lets you build a career at a solid company
#2
You are taking a gamble at ur current place
With the new offer u can get ur exp up then maybe even move back home if theres a better place on the table
Easy, Chicago. Getting no PTO/no sick days/no vacation days is insanity
Thanks guys. I was leaning towards the Chicago job and you guys have made me more confident that it's the way to go.
I hope the rent in Chicago isn't crazy. I am a simple guy so don't need anything fancy when it comes to housing or food. I won't party or spend lavishly. Hope that helps me save more than what I'm saving in my current job even with the added expenses.
Rent is pre high but youll make it back
my biggest regret is not being born 4-5 years earlier. smh.
May the lord bless you with warm pillows
Chicago is the city that I’ve always not been to fond of
but it’s an excellent place to live in many regards
there’s so many jobs there and CoL is pretty low
You can find a nice apartment for under $1,300 which is hard these days
It won’t be downtown but it’s not in the slums. And there’s a train
Can’t you get a studio for like 1600 in downtown Chicago?
No one really lives in downtown Chicago, but in the most expensive areas studios start at 1500-1600
But those are really small/old units
I'm sure u can find a more expensive area
If u look in like river north gold coast you get around 2k studio
But yea there's affordable places too ofc
Goald coast has a lot of cheapish units near the clark stop
Like 1300-1500
Nice
River North usually units start from 1600. Ive seen 1 or 2 for under that but theyre extremely bad lol
Ya ofc, probably not worth if it's too cheap in the nicest area
oracle loved to do layoffs though afaik
Yessir
Thank you. I don't even care if the apartment is nice. A small 1 bed 1 bath is fine. Don't need a living room or kitchen, just a bed, table/chair, and a drawer to keep some clothes. That's all. I'll take the cheapest one I can get that's not too far from the office
No kitchen is mad
I can get by with an instant pot and microwave. I'm not going to be baking or cooking elaborate dishes. Maybe just some pasta or rice.
I'll wash the dishes by hand in the bathroom. I'll use soap and be thorough.
Won't have a lot of dishes as just one person - no more than 2/3 plates/bowls/spoons/forks per day
Now that's a fine idea. Thanks for sharing it
I've never seen an apartment without a kitchen
But if your only objective is saving money then find roommates
You can find places for ~ 500-600 in my neighbourhood with roommates
Probably can go even cheaper
Also, don't just sort by minimum price when finding apartments in Chicago
Some areas are cheaper for a reason 💀
wait he makes 100k and wants to live like this
Thanks for the advice. Yea, roommates seem like a good idea if I can't find a cheap 1 bed 1 bath place for myself. I would want a room to myself, don't want to share a room with someone.
clearly you aren't look at the slum lord listings
only 4-5?
what are u a loser? u should've been born like wayyy earlier so u can buy property and stocks for dirt cheap and ride out the wave
Wants a room to himself but doesnt want a kitchen
Does anyone here work in the Controllers division at Goldman Sachs? Please DM!
I wish I was my older sister's age so I could do tech better than her
Hey guys, i will be giving my coderpad assessment for goldman sachs this week. Can you anyone help me with what sort of questions they would be asking and any previous questions are also appreciated
it's kinda shitty how some companies have roles posted publicly
but will only look at referrals or internal transfers
@rain patio
You got a SWE job yet?
Who’s still lookin for a job
has anyone taken doordash ng oa? how was it?
me 🙂
nah but got interview through referall
asked the person who gave me referal why they rejected me first, then sent me an interview invitation
cause their public job posting for the position is only for interal or referal only
which makes me wonder how many positions ive applied to that were like that
Oh wtf which company?
What percentage of 2023 grads do you guys think have a full time swe job rn?
I feel like this channel it’s mostly just a few active people
While the server has like 100k members
While the server has 100k members
A good chunk of them are inactive
Yeah true
I’m just wondering what ur guy’s guesstimate is
Honestly its almost impossible to say
I have no clue 😊
Cuz all this job hunting for nearly a year is getting me so depressed and burnt out
And I’m just wondering how bad it is for everyone else
It's so over
They rejected you first and sent you an invitation for interview?
it's only you who's unemployed
everyone else and their mom and dog got offers
only you
jk no dawg it's tough for everyone
rent a room as you don't need living room and kitchen. that save a lot.
why a room?
just get a cardboard box
actually no that's too low, just get a casket and rent a morgue drawer
but chicago is cold. if he is going to south california that might works
just get an insulated card baord box then lol
Chigaco is rainy? cardboard doesnt work
waxed, insulated cardboard box
there
dont say now that chitown is also called chiraq so the box wont stop bullets
then i'll say kevlar lined, waxed, insulated card board box
there
any more objections
get a cybertruck and live in the car is better

what job boards do u guys use?
is there a dedicated job board for entry level positions?
check pinned
o word thank you
Chicago is windy
Changing to a wooden box will help protect against the wind
this sounds like the pigs with the 3 houses and the big bad scawy wolf
thing
can anyone help me with discord groups/repos for Data Analyst roles, please?
wooden box with insulation
i.e. a house

a boy can dream

anyone given frontend technical interview for tesla?
Is this a bad thing
nah everyone got this,, you can see people in 2024_grads/process chat talking about it
but we got it after them so maybe they don't care about 2023 grads as much 🤨
💀
totally bad, i'm sorry
any tips for Verkada Embedded SWE?
Better than a rejection fam
True, ive already had so many
When do you graduate btw?
the position you applied for was this right: Software Engineer I, New Graduate (Graduation Date: Spring 2024-Summer 2024)
I graduated in dec 2023 and got rejected after getting the oa a few days ago (haven't taken it yet)
So I thought maybe it was a graduation thing but ig not
Yes
I didnt get the oa though yet
Just that email
cool thanks
Since we are 2023 grads and this email is related to 2024 grad posting which means we are fkd anyways
U just gotta be lucky
If u applied when it was posted or referred u will mostly likely be reviewed and maybe get interviews
If late most likely not get reviewed and be ghosted
Nah they had a job posting
Including 2023
New grad along with 2024
But new grad position requires min 2 internships experience
For filtering out people

dmed!
Did anyone here ever interview with Vermont Information Processing? Kinda urgent
remember everyone if you're smart, hard working, and consistent you'll eventually land a job, trust the process
i am unfortunately none of those things
this is what im doing. i am no longer focused on the job search process, i study algos to prepare for my Machine learning masters, i apply to a few new jobs everyday, and i dont mind giving interviews. I have 0 interest in the process, or do i care what happens after i interview. if they send a job they do but otherwise i keep studying to go through my ML degree and then hopefully be able to apply to Machine learning software engineer jobs'
I am also studying iOS development rn working freelance as well while i search for jobs
No but they saw my resume, linkedin amd they reached out to me saying that your location is not Vermont. I said I am open for relocation and....... Ghosted!

if you want to be MLE make sure you choose thesis based program
I just grad with course-based MSCS with a spec in ML and now I'm focusing on cloud and hopefully I will get a cloud job
so you're saying course based didn't help you at all?
I wouldn't say it's useless, as I've seen people who went for course-based ml track still landing MLE jobs in 2022 . But considering the job market most MLE positions I've come across prefer candidates with publications / research experiences.
Fair enough, everything is dependant on the state of the market 🙃🙃
the best route is to get the return offer from your ML intern. Generally it's even more challenging than landing a sde job even the job market is good.
Firstly, there are fewer openings for ML roles compared to SDE positions. Secondly, the bar is set higher and the interviews tend to be more difficult (sde interview prep + ml concepts/algo + ml model design).
Makes sense - Do ML intern interviews also have the same 3 aspects, just with a lower bar?
In general the intern interviews still touch on ML concepts and algorithms but the expectations are a bit lower. There are fewer interview rounds and they typically won't require you to write algorithms like LSTM for example during the interview.
Ah okok, thanks for answering my questions 🙂
How do you know all this?
my own exp + my frds (new grad and senior mle) exp
I thought project based program is better instead of thesis based program because don’t companies want real-world project experience?
project-based also works. Don't choose course-based
What is course-based?
Coursework Based. You only have to take the required amount of classes to graduate

Which role did you get it for? I applied for backend eng 1 and never got this email
Either the general new grad or Toronto role
It doesn't specify which role they're sending it for
Did they have a general new grad role targeting 2023?
I though their 2023 roles require experience
6 months
They did, even 2022 grads had a posting
Huh ok
its been a week since i did my technical and have not heard anything back since. am i cooked?
do we know if msft has a cap on applications? there r a lot of openings on their site but idk if can just apply to all
Yeah that just looks like the default confirmation email
yes, i was just highlighting the role i applied for since you asked
Ahh gotcha
They still have position for grad date dating to Spring 2022?
does palantir send “app received” emails i havent gotten any
No they don't
I haven't received any email
if during the interview they mention they'll get back in 2 weeks and its first round, thats prob a rejection huh
depends on company
for hirevue prerecorded interviews have you guys finished a question, left and then came back to finish the rest. Is that bad?
it says I can resume where I left off
don't think they have an official cap, but usual rule of thumb is 3 applications in a short time period, otherwise it looks bad
ok ty
how long does it take to get EAD by premium processing? (can my intl friends ans this, thanks!)
couple of weeks i think
within 30 days
Any companies that are currently hiring for early career/new grad roles?
Does anyone know of recruiting websites where you can contact a recruiter to help find a job?
linkedin?
Hi, did anyone here do GS superday before?
Just this
damn
bro im getting no interviews at all this is wild
How many applications did you submit?
Lmk if you find a good one
The ones my friends use aren't willing to help a new grad 💀💀
Can I ask what one’s your friends use?
They won't help unless you have at least 2 YOE, cause even with intro they ghosted me
If you do tho then DM me and I can share email
I send a DM to ya
Is anyone aware of Hire Success assessment pattern?
Anyone know of websites that ask you to make http requests and get manipulate the data in some way? Trying to simulate what this job interview is going to ask me to do. Like:
"fetch this data from this API"
"create array with only values in data that are this"
"then return the array that looks like this"
hackerrank has a couple problems https://www.hackerrank.com/skills-verification/rest_api_intermediate
nice, thanks for the link!
thanks!
Is anyone aware of the Hire Success assessment pattern?
Anyone interviewed with Confluent for FE role? How did it go? Were you asked FE specific questions or leetcode?
are you talking about the talroo one?
@fallen fox @rain patio
Yess, for Talroo only. Its like a 35 mins assessment. No idea what is expect
it’s 4 math questions
ohh thanks! plus behavioral ques?
no just 4 math
Nice. Thanks for sharing!
Got rejected from the only place that bothered to interview me 🥲
Oof well u gotta keep on pushing
I got rejected two times in the last five months
Even though I aced technical
But we just gotta push thru friend
It’s too late for me. At this point I gotta give up and do grad school. Nobody wants to hire a guy who’s been unemployed for 9 months. At least this time around I’ll make sure to do more internships while I’m in school.
2 more years of my life to be eaten up by school. I will never make 6 figures. Mediocrity is my destiny
dude i feel the same its like i spent 4 years at a t1 cs school that cost my parents a fortune and just got laid off after 7 months as a new grad, and cant get a single interview and am on visa so am on a clock. Probably will have to go to apply to a grad school to stay in the US (all my savings) i just feel bad for my parents and truly ended up being a complete bum fml im just thinking what if i cant get a job even after grad school then what lmao
Many things are out of our control, all we should and can do is continue to strive forward 🫡
have you tried applying to jobs in your home country
Why?
Yea if I can’t get a job after grad school then I am genuinely lost in life like there’s actually no hope. I have to work at McDonald’s or something. I’ll be poor like the rest of my family tree. Fml
I don’t even know. I thought I did well in the technical. Then they hit me with “your skills aren’t what we’re looking for”
After which round?
Technical
I think they already have someone else in mind
Sometimes it has less to do with the interview than the resume
they sent me that too last year, i know it may not sounds like much but it does get better.
i still look at their email and laugh especially since i aced my interview too
At least you got 7 months of experience
no ill do that once my clock in the US runs out until then ill keep trying here. obviously its a third world country so wouldnt be great
isnt helping me get interviews sadly
It feels like we all ended up in the worst possible timeline for our careers
damn
anyone heard about Outlier? Is it scam?
The remote job for AI model training, like the DataAnnotation and RemoteTask
DataAnnotation and RemoteTask are i think scams
rele? I read on reddit a lot of ppl are working for them
but im not sure about this "Outlier" company
RemoTasks kept spamming me with "complete your signup!" emails every day for a month, even after CCing their legal and privacy inboxes
finally stopped after I CC'd legal at scale AI
was about to get Rob Bonta on their ass
did you go to MIT?
i meant to write t10
omg really 😦
Can you have multiple companies give h1b apps
New rule makes it so that you will only have a single petition for all the companies.
What if I haven’t started work somewhere
As in multiple offers
still starting this year its one per person not one per company i think
Afaik, you can have multiple registrations but only one entry will be in lottery. If picked, all the registrations will be notified and you can select one. Once again, not an expert on this so check with the companies.
got rejected with the only company that got me a second round
with summer approaching
not sure what to do at this point
Anyone interviewed with yellowbrick data?
Is this knock off data bricks based in Kansas?
hahaha.. doesn't look like that.
When did you graduate?
dec 2023
How many applications you submitted? How many interviews so far?
500
2 phones
3 video
lamo
this is so depressing
im going to cry
Any internships or experience?
Sadly no
Just unfortunate that I couldn’t get any
lads we did it. graduated May 2023 but didn't start applying full time until September. applied to approx. 25 jobs across various job boards/recruiting firms in 6 months, 4 interviews, 4 rejections (3 at first round, 1 at take-home in between 1st/2nd). ended up getting a data analyst role from a connection with a friend. was not aiming solely at SDE, at first I spent most of my time grinding LC, reading programming books and attempting to build projects since I had zero internship experience. the interviews were all after 4 months of nothing so it is possible. 3 interviews came through connection with a friend, only 1 was through job site. I was pretty good about applying / grinding the first two months and then I fell into a deep pit of despair through November/December only to start to gain traction once jan/feb rolled around. the deepest pit of despair I felt was when i failed a simple take-home screener after the first interview of my dream job a couple weeks back that i could have used ChatGPT to get the right answers for. if I take away anything from this its that human connection >> anything else, while you're living you've got to find a group of people you invest deeply in and who invest deeply into you. Now I didn't like make new connections with people once I graduated- I had a lot of friends who sent me job opportunities and encouraged me, but if I could go back I would continue to connect with people and I intend to do so moving forward. I also didn't graduate with a full cs degree (just a minor) and no relevant experience, so I didn't apply for many junior/entry-level SDE positions, mostly SDE adjacent positions since that would cut down on competition.
TL;DR take aways
- if you're interested in entry-level SDE adjacent roles, I would apply for them since they have less competition at the moment.
- connect with people in real life as much as possible, even if you're an introvert, find a group of people in the industry who share your hobbies (like board games, running or lifting) and spend time with them (a mentor suggested using MeetUp.com to find specific programming language groups). this may not lead to you finding a job per say but it will improve your mentals immensely.
- don't lose hope, even if you can barely get out of bed or bear the thought of looking at another job posting, just keep putting in the reps.
What experience you have on your resume?
I helped a local company with their Excel files and edited some of their HTML for two years while I was a student to help pay for college. I worked at a major shipping company (Amazon, FedEx, UPS) the two COVID summers since I didn't have luck finding internships. 🤡 so worse than nothing. And I never took the classes for CS that have big projects associated with them/did any hackathons, it was quite literally the kind of resume that would get instantly rejected by any good ATS.
I've lurked on this discord for a while but didn't post a lot since my severe lack of experience/skills. there were so many people applying to hundreds of positions with resumes/portfolios lightyears ahead of mine that I had to stop reading this channel since every time I did I'd come away thinking "if these CS gods can't land a position there's no shot I get anything. and they're joking about working a menial job instead when I'm like 'been there, done that'." So if whoever's reading this in a similar boat to me (lurking and/or severely underqualified), I recommend you stop reading this channel and don't come back until you land something. also, if you're considering quitting for a while to either go back and get your masters (if you have money) or working an unrelated role (if you don't), set yourself a hard deadline based on your financials/situation and do your best until then. (mine was May 2024) But unless your soul is somehow unaffected by societal expectations, I think based on my experience you will feel better working any job than none at all.
what should i do if im 1 yr post grad and still searching?
the answers always leetcode and pray at any level
maybe consider grad school
what if i dont get into grad school
What is your undergraduate GPA?
3.4 😵💫
Might as well try if u got money
U prob can get into the non prestigious one and take online courses
One
I might consider being tech support in bestbuy lol
You got experience or certification?
No
Personal experience building my pc I guess lol
i feel like just applying every opportunity/entry level/associate/etc and side projects but a whole ass year. so im applying for masters so u get the "advantage" of being eligible for internships. theres a couple that range from $7k ish -$20k
doordash just send me the exact same email again tf is happening
Dont worry about it
Most likely a reply all
I’d suggest looking for SDE-adjacent role, small/local companies/startups those usually don’t have the same level of competition but the playbook varies wildly
Micro Center would be tight
Yeah got the same one

I withdraw and they are still senting me
it means they rrlly want u bro

smh
Today my grandparents called me to tell me how everyone else has a job my cousins , friends and how i should just get one too they said do labor job its fine
I hear everyday from parents but grandparents was a new one
I pray for you man 🙏
That was 70% of my stress hearing it from family
Same another big stress factor is im international so i might have to go back if i dont get a job by mid 2025
If i go back the stuff they said is gonna get worse and even more relatives will be saying things being asian sucks
is there a reason you can't get any old job like serving or coffee?
or are you still in school
I wont get citizenship from a coffee shop job unfortunately although ig that would stop my parents and grandparents from saying stuff
And no i graduated june 2023
how do u have so much time??
In canada you get 2 or 3 years of work permit depending on your duration of study mine is 3 years so till 2026
And you need a year of experience in a skilled job within these 3 years then you can apply for citizenship
i haven't found anything yet in SWE although i've been working on the side earning decent money. means i can be pickier about which companies i decide to go forward with for SWE.
Ive been working sorta freelance contract stuff not earning a lot but it counts as swe experience
But i only earn like 800 ish per project and ive done 2 so far
my big mistake was lack of SWE internship experience, although i've collaborated with media outlets and such with tech-related demos and projects, and also done some game dev which was somewhat successful
Yeah i wasnt able to get internships in uni, i joined coop at my uni in third year but it was 2020 and so yeah
even had influence over some big open source projects (this server has like 100k members i'm sure at least someone here has used it)
Im currently learning ios dev on the side
Damn thats pretty good
but it has still been difficult
😔
I just feel bad abt my parents too they spent so much money on my education as an international student theyve even moved here to support me now and yeah
Im just still living on their salary and cant get a job myself it sucks
yo get a job as a bike mechanic
its TEER3
yeah
Okay ill search up jobs near me
if you can show you can put together a bike
you're golden
interview is usually like "here is a bike in a box, build it"
I dont know how to build a bike tho
the problem is that HR doesn't know much about SWE besides well known US companies
its easy just watch youtube
Bet
I had 3x internship, 2 F500 ones and just got my first offer last week 💀
so i have that hurdle to go through
No return fucked me over so bad
wait when did you graduate
also read sheldon brown's old ass site
In my last semester rn
I had a call yesterday for a tech support job and the recruiter said she will call me back to explain the interview process
Hoping i get that call
One of the people who i was supposed to work with for my third contract project basically wanted to take advantage of my situation, he told me to build him a sample project for free and then he will hire me if he likes me work
I worked for a few days but it quickly became apparent he wanted me to work for free
So i left
i got a takehome that just looked like free work
It wasnt even an interview, if he wanted to hire me for a project he could have told me so
I asked him for a job and he basically told me to make this project for him for free
Like i walked in to his shop and asked since it seemed like they do web dev
all i know is that i've really tried to diversify my resume so i'm not a one trick pony
Yeah
i don't want to be stuck fighting for my life in web dev
because that's what most people target
so i diversified into embedded, computer graphics and games, HPC, etc.
i'm pretty much a guaranteed hire at a startup if they are in a position to bring someone new in but they have uncertainties with their contracts
doesn't make my life easier though
Hope everyone makes it
i would also take a look at software sales if possible
or high-tech sales
the CS and engineering background can be a tremendous help although you need decent communication and public speaking skills above average
Application support is decent $$ if you can talk to people
Its pretty salesy tho
i'm telling all you Canuck wannabes gunning for citizenship, go buy a bike for $50 off kijiji or whatever its called and learn how to fix it
the pay sucks but at least you can stay in the country
sometimes you get beer tips
and riding a bike is good for mental health
it's rough though, i know you don't have to have a godlike resume for an internship or new grad but it does feel like that sometimes
doesn't sound fun anyway
Mood on that give me a job
Tech support like in bestbuy??
Neal Wu is there too
Is meta freezing hiring for new grad now?? Hearing a lot from reddit and discord and wanted to confirm.
i mean it's probably correct
i heard a big issue is team matching
abandoned what
i dont think i heard anyone who got offers from meta+ got past team matching stage
Team matching
they froze E4 hiring according to reddit
have like 1k in team match rn
crazy
Woah.. Ohh Okay.
i would have just clocked in rn if i had managed to land a job post graduation 🥲
Since I havent landed a job since may im gonna go for my masters. I need advice on what to do it on though.
has anyone had an onsite with Microsoft recently? I was looking for some insight on whether to expect sys design or what to expect from the behaviorals. seems like the coding questions are rng
Do 2023 grad still qualify as new grads for 2025 recruiting
Your just like me fr
I’m not a 2023 grad
I’m a 2025 grad wondering if I’m gonna have to deal with ngmi’s
Yeah u are
I’m snatching those 2025 new grad spots

I got a job rn
im gunning for those 2025 new grad roles as soon as they open
At subway?
Where let’s go offer for offer rn
Has anyone done the Verizon Leadership development program interview ?
