Has anyone here used one offer as leverage for other companies?
I have an offer with one company but the salary is not as high as I would have liked. I need to accept the offer by the end of this month. I am currently interviewing with two other companies. (Have recruiter emails for both companies.) From what I've read online, the other two companies will offer higher salaries for new grads.
I want to let both those companies know that I have an offer I need to respond to soon and that I would like to know if they are willing to move forward by the end of this month. Don't need an offer from them, just some verbal/email confirmation that the hiring process is moving forward. That way, I don't start the job at company 1 and then quit 2-3 months in if company 2 and 3 pull through with a better offer later on, effectively burning bridges with company 1.
Are there any downsides to asking the other two companies if they could maybe hurry up a bit and let me know if I'm moving forward or not by the end of this month because I have a pending offer? I don't want to put pressure on them but at the same time I don't want to be stuck with a low salary job at company 1 or burn bridges with company 1.

I also don't want to turn down company 1 without any indication that I could get an offer from company 2 and 3 because the job market is so bad and I don't want to be unemployed as a college grad for much longer.
there is a recruiter involved. they haven't brought up if I have competing offers themselves. I'm hesitant to bring up my other offer myself because I don't want my current hiring processes with these companies to be terminated.

I was not given any official timeline, just a ballpark estimate. For one company, I only completed the OA and briefly spoke with someone working at that company. For the other company, I had a first round interview and was told the HM would contact me towards the end of this month or next month to move forward if they like me.

At a disadvantage? yes. fucked? not if you keep applying and frame your resume/cover letter well. I'm not sure if saying you had depression in your cover letter to explain the gap would be a good idea, but if you have some other valid reason that won't raise eyebrows, mention it. Also maybe list some online courses/projects you did in your cover letter so employers don't think you sat idle.

Assuming you are a part of a discord server for your university, that's technically true since you could answer questions that CS students ask there, making you a tutor or mentor (unofficially).

This may make you seem flaky when you already accepted an offer and about to start and you are still deciding whether or not to stay with them or go to another company.
