If you had to choose between Stripe NG vs Shopify NG (Internal return), where they roughly pay the same base, however Stripe pays 32k more bcz of stocks, which one would you choose? Do account for WLB cuz I feel like thats important
well how was your experience with shopify?
stripe seems like a cool product tbh
Hey so for everyone who’s struggling by to find a job, have yall considered a job agency? So far I’ve avoided it because of the bad pay + strings attached bs but now I’m getting desperate.
Only have positive things to say about work at Shopify
very laid back and you get to work on impactful projects
Has anyone here done SQL interviews?
My SQL skills are crap so I just wanna know what I should expect in the intervuiew
I believe I can do most easy SQL questions, but I definitely struggle with medium ones
I havent done like full blown SQL only interviews but what they asked me is how to make basic queries and how a database might be organized other than that i cant say much
Oh okk that's good, I can answer those questions
I was just worries they'll ask me to do complex aggregations lol
And I'm definitely sure they'll ask me about star schema database
since I attempted to make one in my previous co op
so yeah I think I should focus on basic/easy SQL questions, and dive deep into star schema database design
@hardy cypress did you a coding interview for that company?
Like a regular leetcode type interview
My python is rusty, I'm much better at leetcode in java
so I feel like I need to grind leetcode in python this week
@tardy geode did you also do a coding interview for that DS company you interviewed for?
Yes I did, it didnt go so well but I had to do a leetcode medium but to be fair they themselves said it was vastly different than how other companies do it, so I had to do like 3 assignments in a 2 hour interview 🫤
😦 , hopefully that experiece helped and you'll do amazing in the next interview
It might be viable for you to use java. From what I have read, you might wanna stick to whichever language you are most familiar with. Although learning python is good, it might be time consuming
It was rather humbling haha but yes I learned a lot from it. I took a lot of notes for myself
I wish my job used Java
I also wish that web dev used Java instead of HTML/CSS/JavaScript
If you've ever used a JetBrains IDE like IntelliJ or PyCharm, those were written entirely in Java...even the UI uses a native Java GUI library lol 🥵
... that sounds awful
its lightweight, java can be pretty heavy for web
c# asp.net with razor is pretty good tho and a lot of companies like it
Easier to get more money than better WLB
If 32k stocks makes a big diff to you then take stripe
financially
I do also want to take into account WLB
which Ive only ever read negative reviews
Could you elaborate?
What makes WLB poor? On-call? or lots of quick deadlines
could you eloborate?
I kinda do have offers from both and still debating on the better option lol
They aren't paying you 200k to have bank WLB.
Stripe toronto pay is washed rn
Unless you want bank life, this.
There’s performance stock though right
Yeah theres performance stock
wym pass stripe final
Honestly, is this really true?
Yes
Stripe has insane resume value
Its the WLB that im hesitant about
Toronto office, so remote
but will they have plans on going back to office
Yeah Shopify
Do know that I already have 8months of Shop intern experience
Take Stripe and leave when you can't take the torture.
So I kinda know what to expect at Shopify, reason why I am debating this lol
Do u have other experience tho like big n
Nah no other big n
Stripe is like infinitely more valuable on resume than Shopify imo
Would be minimum 1 year torture if but in a bad team
Was decent ngl, better than leetcode based interviews fs
But they only gave me an offer cuz I had another offer in hand imo lol
y do you say this?
Which location ?
Both Toronto
Yeah that was only for OA, the rest is not like that
Phone was 1 question split into 4 parts yeah
No request stuff
string manipulation thats it
you can dm me if you want i'm also ex shopify
Stripe is like infinitely more valuable on resume than Shopify imo
Is it worth to suck it up if put in a bad team for the name?
cuz end of the day, you still need to pass the interviews for whatever companies you are applying to
Yeah I would stripe for a job too
did anyone hear back from GS after the OA?
Bank TC tends to be much lower.
Relative to faang yeah, not to average American's salary
O yea
For sure
Was talking about tech in general
So majority all of yall saying Stripe >> Shopify here too
Yes, take Stripe.
Stripe on resume means cracked for life I think
The resume value is too hard to pass off even if the wlb is shit. You can always leave for a company with better wlb down the line.
I would accept Stripe rn but kinda sent out a negotiation email and recruiter OOO until tmrw, so gotta hear back first
I agree, suffer 1 year then thank yourself later
what about dropbox vs bloomberg?
atleast 1 year*
Im considering the worst case given a really really bad team
id forsure join for the long run
1 year isn't really too much of suffering especially if you're new grad
Consider it as learning experience
Yeah Stripe reviews on learning / growth has been nothing but positive
so am very happy of that
What about employment vs rope?
this is ane asy choice
do both
both are fully remote
FATFIRE at 10% SWR, maxed out FHSA, TFSA, RRSP
Stripes Offer says "you cannot do anything besides work at Stripe" lol
well yes, if you get caught doing both jobs ud likely lose both jobs

but that dosent stop people being overemployed
Probably open up yourself to a lawsuit too lmaooo
I have a pretty big interview in 15 minutes. I've prepared as well as I could but still kinda nervous.
Wish me luck, and good luck to all of you.
GL u got this!
U got this
If companies get a new budget in Q1 of each year, is Q1 the best time to look for a job?
does stripe still have hc for Canada ng?
And bro when did you hear back from hr? Her initial AD? @sonic violet
Has anyone tried SynergisticIT? It’s a job placement program , I keep getting emails from them
Interview went really well! I posted last night saying I was worried I'd get asked leetcode medium questions (bane of my existence) and spring boot questions (inexperienced). But none of those were asked - just basic technical questions - like what are microservices, what are load balancers. EZ PZ.
I'm still kind of worried, though. Hope it all works out. I want to get the job, but I also don't want to let my parents down.
I know they are preparing your offer letter.
What’s the title of the position?
Guys, is it ok to expediate process for an interview with the reason that you are interviewing with few other companies?
Software Engineer/Software Developer/Full-Stack Developer/Backend Developer. Something along those lines. Not sure what the official title will be yet but most likely one of those.
I keep getting a bunch of emails from them too. I think they're a scam. I replied to one of their emails once, didn't hear back.
You also need to join a job placement program at SynergisticIT. So you're basically paying them to get a job.
Yeah, anything that asks you to pay them sounds like a scam
Like that office supply scam lol
has anyone hear ever interviewed with Bloomberg? I just got rejected after my round 2. I solved the problem with a multiple iterative solutions very quickly but the interview kept on wanting me to do a recursive solution but I couldn't get it. By the time we were done with the first question it had been like 30-40 mins and I barely had time for the 2nd question.
anyone hear back from meta ng
I doubt they are gonna interview anyone but previous interns.
Ye my interviewer also wanted recursive solution for smth after iterative optimal
@neon panther was this at Bloomberg?
Anyone interviewed at EAB over here ?
damn bro nice
dropbox is cool
but I've heard of a lot of internal problems
is that the first phone?
like what
@rain wraith 😏
has anyone interviewed for the DevOps 1 position at RTX Collins Aerospace by chance? 👀 I have an initial phone screening with the hiring manager this week but not really sure what to prepare for
for devops I'd recommend brushing up on kubernetes
^^
thank you! 😊
Hey, anybody in the process of Co-Op at Cohere Health? I got an interview coming up and I'm scared
I don't know much about cohere but I did a co op with another heathcare company
my co op was with Novo Nordisk
don't remember too much of what they asked but I just talked about my projects with them
it was behavorial no lc or anything
Ohh okay. This interview is a 35 min live coding, followed up by a 20min behavioural
damn that's interesting, depends on the position and company I guess
^^ I'd recommend appling to novo as well
I liked working with them
Yep sounds like it. Wish me luck lol
You got this!
thankyouu 🙂
Yes. Not for SWE though.
what role?
Data Analyst. There is no coding in the role. Its more of a QA/software testing role. Pay is also shit at $26/hr for the Bay Area. I turned that shit down immediately.

if i get netflix im gonna be so conflicted
cause i don't wanna live in los gatos
but like who could deny it
hey, how was it?
meta $26/hr? no way that's slavery
its not an SWE role though. but still, any role at meta besides janitorial positions that are offering that low of a pay can be considered slavery
yea, its a contract position. So Meta isn't hiring you, but another company is hiring you but you'll be working for meta
The middleman is taking a significant cut through the pipeline i guess
This is the job description if you're curious - https://terae.getro.com/companies/facebook-2-07d2eb1b-d3ad-4084-93df-74a124ac9233/jobs/27652846-data-labeling-analyst?utm_campaign=google_jobs_apply&utm_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic
Got rejected. Interviewer didn’t seem to be helpful
anyone know how long before you can reapply to Palantir
6 months or so
Ok but what will happen if I apply to the position that just opened yesterday after recieving a reject today
They might train their AIP robots on me
and eliminate me
or somethin
Just got a job after 3 months of hardcore job search!!
Nice, what company?
AYO CONGRATS
found the server goat
🐐 🐐 🐐
story time @rustic glacier

bro joins here and gets a job right away
been here for a bit found it recently but was in the other cs servers 😫
Interviewed with cto today and software eng manager and hr, they loved me
basically connections are the only way to find a job nowadays so peeps get on it
How does one build connections?
cto of jane street?
Startup?
parents friends and private highschool in a wealthy area
Rip lol
No a fintech
Talk to friends ask for people they know, then talk to friends friends, and ask them if they know, keep doing that until you find someone who knows someone who knows someone to get you a job
a Canadian fintech you say?
yea
but honestly i sent probably 1200 applications and got nada literally 1 interview, connections was the closest to get me to a job and finally did
Alrighty will do! Phewee better grind out them leet code lol. I dont want to disappoint my referrals 💀
were they recently unicorn'd?
Thanks for the tips
wdym unicornd

dont need leetcode if you got good referral
and also dont look at huge companies
thats a big mistake people make, theres too many application pool and highly unlikely youll get picked unless youre coding god
Isn't it crazy that our ability to eat food and have a warm bed is determined by our ability to solve 2d dynamic array problems
don't forget about us when you get netflix big bro

i'm praying. not sure how I even got the interview
Do hiring managers/recruiters look at your github profile?
Some of my code in my github is a bit unclean so I was wondering if I should even bother with making them easier to read
cool cool
Mehhh I'd say they look at the profile and general commits
but they won't dive deep into code
(Source: Was a technical recruiter through school)
thank god lol, my code barely works
They won't understand anyway
^^
which is fine, they mostly will look to see languages used, and commit history, which still is like a second tier of value to what's on the resume
We used GH a lot for sourcing, so active outreach vs applicants, but we would review the GH if included, and of course interview team/HM would be forwarded the info
Hey guys I’m new to this discord. I applied for the meta university grad software engineer position. Could someone point me in the right direction on which leetcode questions to study up on
Graduating this December
did you get an OA?
A better way to prepare for coding interviews.
no one has taken OA this year yet
so no way to know what they have planned
but blind 75 is always a good call
dating apps
How is the dating market compared to the tech market currently 👀
Same
If you're hot easy
If you're mid impossible
If you're ugly go next irl
Just like SWE
but we in CS so our social skills r rope level
where do we go next den
@obsidian crater
if you don't have a job you can't really go on many dates lol
Data entry
rip the game was over before it even began
i was not refering to jobs
I'm a college graduate with a Masters degree. I am currently working unpaid at a small startup with no funding because the job market is brutal and I couldn't find anything better. (If they get funding, they might pay me later.)
But today, I FINALLY got my first paid job offer out of college at a very good F500 company. Its a company that has a bunch of superstores across the US and other countries and sells things at a very cheap price. The role isn't exactly to my liking (they work in the cloud/backend and I am interested in AI/frontend/full-stack) but it is my first job out of college and I am going to be a salaried man now. I can always pivot to my main interests later (and who knows, maybe I will like the cloud/backend stuff more). Super excited and so relieved now.
Good luck to all of you. I know the job market is brutal but keep at it and don't give up.
sounds like walmart or costco 😛
Yes it is one of those two.
He posted Walmart in process
if u don't like gib to me
Congrats!
congrats !!
thank you everyone
u had that other job that was promising to pay you in trident layers right?
wdym trident layers?
equity
or they were gonna pay you later?
can i dm
Yea thats the startup I was talking about in my original post. They don't have funding now but if they get some later (no guarantee), they will pay me
Yes
nice, I bet havin (not) walmart feels way better
congrats, I'm glad that you're gonna have a steady paycheck now 😄
Yea. Its technically a contract position so I'll be hired by another company to work at Walmart for a year. Its going to be a six figure salary which I am grateful for.
damn 6 figure even, that's nice
I first interviewed for a different team. They asked me a leetcode medium question (something about islands). I failed it and got rejected.
Then a few weeks later, I got contacted for a role on another team. This time, I got asked a much easier leetcode question in the first interview. I didn't even have to code on the leetcode site and run the code against their test cases, I just coded the function in an IDE. I did well and got contacted for a second round interview which was yesterday. That one had no coding, they just asked technical questions about cloud computing. I did well enough I suppose, and now they are moving forward with me and giving me an offer.
I didn't apply through the walmart site, but a contracting company that contracts people to work at walmart while being hired by them officially
I know meta mainly asks from tagged leetcode questions right? I was wondering if anyone was familiar with those questions already or not. Or on what to study from leetcode
I’ve been doing neetcode on the side too
You can't base anything that happens this year on prior years. The market is so tight that standards have been raised
Oof
bro congrats on Walmart ❤️
out of curiosity how did you present your unpaid work on your resume?
I'm in a similar situation
not sure how to present it
the same way u would with a paid job lol
Thank you. I didn't say it's unpaid at all. Just treat it like any other position. On your cover letter, say it's a pro bono position.
and what do you do during background check?
Idk, maybe don't mention it at all? Ask the unpaid job folks what they think or your current company. Or just research online. Maybe you won't have to mention it at all
part of background checks is reference checks. they may call ur employer to verify or ask u to provide documentation, such as ur offer paper/email
how did you handle it in your situation?
Haven't had to handle it yet. Just got a verbal offer, haven't got any paperwork yet
education or skills
I'm attempting a data engineering certifications and I think I'll be done with it by this month or early next month
I did do an unpaid internship a while back and don't think I mentioned that in any background checks
cool sounds good
kk dope 👌🏼
from my research the most likely outcome is they ask you to provide documentation
so I would be prepared with paperwork
@oblique harbor did you sign an nda with them?
that could be used as paperwork
if they ask
like give them a copy of the nda doc
Maybe. Idk man. Ask the HR department of your company. They know best. Once you have the offer I doubt they'll fire you for not being transparent of a job not being paid.
Go next
how long were you at the startup btw?
Since the start of october
my co op was paid btw
but a while ago i did an unpaid externship with another company
No. I put it later on and have applied to other positions since then that have the startup role in it.
didn't include them in my resume, but i might to buff up my resume even more if background check won't be an issue here
Ima do the same.... I can come up with paperwork if needed
cofounder of small company reached out to me on LinkedIn after I applied for his company. He said he was impressed with my resume and to reach out to their head of engineering via email. I did last week but he hasn't gotten back to me. Do you think I should message the cofounder saying I'm still interested in the role?
Yes, just be respectful. What have you got to lose?
the mf'ers filled the position
now I must make a rival app as it's the only way I can feel better about myself
What? How long was that in between!
This other guy on LinkedIn said he got a developer position there a couple days ago. They hire fast I guess lol
where they hiring US only or was it international?
startups hire engineers in pakistan or kenya because it is much cheaper even if their code is shit
US, the other guy was US as well
dont know what ur talking about
those guys are smarter than most of us here
know someone from pakistan our age and he has essentially senior level knowledge and capabilities
kenya tho yea thats different
yeah and ik someone our age and he's a senior engineer at a T50 company
like I personally know him, I took classes with him and went to the same hs as him
those types of people occur in much less frequency in pakistan than in the US
because pakistan is a developing country with several issues and they can't priorities the education of its people
besides I wasn't talking about the top 1% of engineers in pakistan
I was talking about the average SWE in pakistan, and usually their code output is of a lower quality compared to someone from the US
What’s a good callback rate for resumes these days? I have ~60 apps and 5 callbacks so far
Bruh that's amazing
My callback rate was like 1 in every 500ish
did you put that unpaid internship on your resume?
its very good
1-2% is normal imho
you're winning bro
share your resume I wanna be like you
ong
Yes
But no one knows it's unpaid
not for walmart tho right?
For that too
No one cares just don't say it's unpaid
Yea
Please dm if you want to mock DS/DA interview!
did u hear back from citi?
how does one find a Netflix referral
i've heard netflix referrals are useless
I got an email like almost 2 weeks ago saying I'm still being considered and that they'd reach out to me, so I guess I'm still going through the process but they're very slow
I've heard the same
pls gib job
you got this!
Best of luck!
Regardless of what happens, this experience will serve as a stepping stone
good luck
anyone got response from polyai?
these sap mfs quick to reject
@rain patio
I just found a role at apple that fits every one of my weird experiences on my resume. Except it requires 3 YOE
It literally looks like they took my resume and designed a job for it
idk if I would have even a tiny shot at applying tho
what's the harm?
though i would reshapre u resume to not look like a NG resume
(remove "intern" from job title), move education to bottom, move up exp, etc
oh and remove grad date from education
off chance recruiter is lazy at math and sees ur exp as more than 4 monhts
yeah but then if I actually got a mid level role at apple I'd get fired lol
Cause I'd be performing as good as a junior
if the recruiter misses that that's on them
lie by omiission till u get offer
then schedule call
and be truthful
you wouldnt be hired as mid lol theyd realize your exp doesnt add up
leverage ur exp
but might beat recruiter screen
happened to me twice 😔
I applied anyway, but never got any response
seriously once I get that 3+ YOE I'll be unstoppable
literally every job that requires the skills I have ask for 3+ YOE
howd it go
has anyone that applied to IBM or CitiBank recently heard back from them yet?
I wanna follow up but I don't have a recruiter email to contact as I only got emails from the generic "X Hiring Team"
GOOD LUCKK wish you all the best!!!
worst feelin is seein in the requirements the YOE
You need 10 years of experience with a framework that came out a year ago
IBM sent an OA, was easy but didn’t hear back.
I did that, did the trait based assessment right after, then they asked additional screening questions which I did, but nothing and it's almost 2 weeks since then
ggs
Its mostly auto OA
were you scheduled for a final round?
have u guys been eligible for most of the new grad positions?
Nah not really
so what positions have u been applying to
Positions either want people who strictly graduate in 2024, or people with 1+ years experience. There's like a gap where if you aren't working they don't want you. So dumb. You just have to apply to the 2024 and hope the screener doesn't autoreject you
damn
Or maybe if your resume is cracked apply to 1+ YOE positions
So I have two unpaid work experiences that I want to include in my resume
This one is for my cloud engineering resume
and this one is for my data engineering resume
ik my written english is dog shit here lol, but I'll change it later, but what do you guys think of my bullet points
I never signed the W2 form for these projects but I am still in contact with my managers so they'll not talk about me if I used them as a reference
@ornate cliff @elder forum @lunar sonnet
Also I think I'm going to take a break from job apps for the next few weeks to finish getting that data eng certification and brushing up on my SQL and python leetcode questions
Bruh what is an "extern"
externship
What Is an Externship? Like an internship, an externship is a short-term professional learning experience. But instead of completing job tasks, externs shadow professionals to learn more about the field. Externships tend to function less formally than internships. Externs also do not typically get paid.
cool makes sense, I'll change those
I'll take a look when I'm home pls tag me if I forget
bet thanks
tbh idk what to put there tho
*what else
That's literally what I did
I just used pandas for data manipulation, seaborn for visulization and selenium (barely) for data scraping
oh kk, I'll see how to change it
Actually I'm not sure I'm allowed to do that
I remember during the project orientation
they specifically said I should use extern instead of intern
this project was a collaboration thing between industry people and my university
I agree lol
I wrote the bullet points in the last 30 mins
That's a really interesting fact about the human trafficking and covid spikes

yeah lol, I thought so too
but it makes sense
cus human trafficking victims live in crowded and unsanitary conditions
and didn't follow social distancing
most of the human trafficing victims that we researched about were farming people from south america who came to US states to work
yep, makes sense

- what are you even monitoring? data transmitted and processed within 30 seconds? 30 seconds of what???
- Don't start a bullet point with "if", make a proper sentence. For example
Enabled event-driven text message and email notifications for the detection of low moisture level as measured by ML algorithm using Azure webhooks and Twilio - For the last one use more buzzwords that are related to design doc architecture reviews or project milestones, but this one is fine
- OK so what tech/languages did you use???????????????????????????
- I don't like "cloud engineer" maybe
Software Engineer (Contract)? That's the title I'm gonna use for my resume but maybe there's something better
thanks for the feedback!
also the 30second part is from when the data is recieved by azure iothub, then analyzed and then the result was sent as a push notification
I thought it was too lenghty
but yeah I agree the 30s part is too vague, I need to add more details
- don't say extern it's confusing just say intern 🤣 or data science consultant?
- damn so you found hotspot but there's NO detail that is interesting at all for such a discovery??? How did you do it??????
- you scrapped with selenium and transformed data with pandas? that's it???? tell me about the interesting math/stats you used who cares about these basic things?
- there's nothing interesting about these bullet points. needs more detail about techniques/algos/stats used as well as the scale of the data you were working with
Fire feedback, need u to review my whole resume frfr
fs post it and tag me broski
Anyone have a really good resume without internships?
That's tough unless your projects are godlike or you have open source or TA experience
anyone i can dm abt bloomberg em round? wondering about sys design portion
...
Canonical has this langauge reasoning quiz as part of their interview process where you're given 3 words, 2 of which are related, and you have to select the 1 that isn't
one of the words that showed up like 3 times was "retard"
yeah that makes sense... I'm more worried about some dummy recruiter not understanding the role
while they film their day in the life tiktoks

sent a complaint about it in an response email, it's insane that it's part of the pretty limited dictionary that section of the interview was drawing from
most recruiters aren't in big tech 😉
but i agree about big tech recruiters
they get it
what % of jobs are big tech + unicorn
again you're right about them being cracked
but I'm worried about ones who aren't
at "regular" companies
maybe they're cracked too who knows
true this server is a bubble fr
I'm only 2 months into my career and already want to retire
I don't want to work 5 days a week for the next 45 years 😭
how's jane street
Ha i wish i worked there
ya that's like the most depressing thought
do you like your job or nah
it helps if you like it
It's probably the best job I've ever had, but I'm lazy and hate working lol
I just want to be rich and chill all day
Compared to working at a grocery store and a buffet lol

fair
bro
you're in the big leagues
take a deep breath and look around you
I guess I have "the grass is always greener on the other side" syndrome or something
you're racking up YOE
literally on the path you wanna be
to get your dream job
300k salary
remote
beach house
no frontend

When I was in elementary school, I looked forward to high school. When I was in high school, I looked forward to college. When I was in college, I looked forward to graduating and getting a software job. Now I have a software job and just want to retire 😂
I'll probably look forward to dying lol

And then I'll see if there's an afterlife
Wakes up in the afterlife
"Ah shit here we go again"
Would you rather work 7 days a week for 20
🤔🤔
No
damn that's goals
I wanna get to a skill level where I can coast and meet expectations
but I'm dumb and need to try hard
Me too 😭
I didn't have gpt in any of my internships
but having it as new grad will be life changing
I wonder if I can 2x
done with interview
almost 4 hrs on teams
nobody said I creeped them out this time 😂
does anyone have any suggestion about what I should expect for tech2 and tech3 for bloomberg?
same format as tech 1
someone told u that?? 💀
yah but that’s a story for another time
hehe it was long and hard
behavioral but that’s it thankfully
so I’ll either get a rejection or offer from here
nah
yeah
joever
im kinda now too, been working on some DIY stuff lately and im getting attached
😭 fart lord
@past hound does geico do drug tests?
oh kk
i thought they would cus they are finance related company
geico pot head home
NY has laws protecting people who use cannabis unlike most states.
They can't deny employment based only on cannabis use outside of work since it is basically a protected class as far as I am aware in NY.
They legally can't in NY at least for cannabis.
i like my pissbag idea more
lmao my ex girlfriend's older sister tried getting her piss for a drug test
piss-suit
legit
Don't a lot of places use hair test?
for my drug test they just gave me the cup and made me go to bathroom
nobody behind or anyth
genuine q, do you get drug tested for swe?
i worked in health care for like 3 years and i obv needed it
but swe ?
shave your hair say you have cancer
I think it tends to be rare for swe unless you work for defense or some company that has federal contracts.
yeah i imagine federal would
im getting ptsd
im pee shy
and piss testing was my worst nightmare in the marines
they literally look at ur dick, like right next to you while you go
id chug a jug of water, be dying and still not be able to go
thats horrid
AYOOO?
yeah
wtf
lmfaooo only in the military do they have some weirdo shit like this
shit was multiple times a week by the time i was getting out
I would have rather gotten blood tested or some shit
take all the blood u want
is the military full of gays
not everyone but like they were supposed to get like a certain percentage of the unit a month
and it was random
so even worse
does this mean you creeped out your interviewers in the past?
oof
they said my answer creeped them, out idk it was a stupid reason and they were really unprofessional
they up to no good in there
Anyone here joined SkillStorm? I'd like to get some insight.
just ate some sushi with a fork to celebrate
degenerate 🤮
you have brought shame to the entire japanese civilization
hands is better than fork bro
im mixing the wasabi with the soy sauce
but also dirty keyboard
After final?
No, I applied last week
Bruh soon there will be may 2024 grads here....i feel old
You know what the worst part is? I took a gap year during covid since online classes sucked. I coulda been a may 2022 grad and got in at the hottest market ever
but instead i get this

after interview?
Just got rejected from bloomberg
No they didn't even give me a chance
i didn't take a gap year and my mental health tanked so I stayed in school an extra year anyway
my may 2022 grad friends are all working
sucks to be a may 2023 grad fr

Gonna keep selling nfts until I find a job
F them. We move!!

My school is t50 lol
still can't find a job
RU is #37 for CS
And I believe RU - new brunswick is #53 for engineering
Still getting RU screwed even after graduating
MIT or gtfo
my school is t10 for cs and still cant find job along with my other cs friends 😹
yeah it didnt help that my school had the most difficult and BS way to internally transfer into the major so I didnt had time for internship 💀
my boy hamza is hookin me up with an insane opportunity ‼ 🤯🤯🥵
someone might want to tell google to turn off their ad spend for this one
dr chud
yessir
Anyone else hoping that we reach the AI singularity soon
Once we get actually smart AI that can learn independently, I think that could be super useful if the AI is good and wants to help
Like imagine an AI so smart it knows how to improve itself and gives people all these insane physics formulas that it discovered to create brand new materials, as well as how to assemble new parts to improve the AI
i always say please when i use chatgpt just in case it remembers when it becomes too powerful
And then since it's so smart it figures out how to unite humanity so we're no longer divded by stupid wars and religious dispute
And then we just let the AI run everything lol
me too
or possibly saved?
What if the AI takes over the world but does it out of benevolence to save us from ourselves?
honestly world leaders suck and we need a change in management
An AI overlord that has access to all of human knowledge and is millions of times smarter than normal people probably could solve our issues pretty fast
then again it could just kill us all lol
ai is a fucking machine
Or maybe it'll pull the plug on itself when it realizes how much work it has to do to fix our mess lol
yeah idk how we'll be able to control it lol
its gonna thanos us lmao
all it has to do is start creating fake videos and launching ad campaigns all over the internet to get people to join its side
it'll get plenty of people to help it with physical stuff like moving things or building upgrades for it
sounds like a good horror story lol. Like some AI god that creates a religion and whispers instructions to its followers on how to create a super advanced robot body to house its brain
honestly, who wins, AI or aliens
Do you think software jobs will be dead in 20 years 😭
by 2025 once the aliens reveal themselves
aliens if they have AI, otherwise the AI will win
its gonna be chatgpt vs aliens
the greys seem like creeps who keep crashing their space cars
Imagine an AI millions of times smarter than any human. At the rate that AI is progressing, we're probably already well on the way to AGI in 20 years or less
hopefully they aren't on top of the food chain
imagine having an ai girlfriend
😏
idk if an AI girlfriend would like me
probably would think i'm dumb
nah
i guess it depends on how smart the AI is
monika will always love
man now i'm scared...what if AI views us with disgust?
humans are pretty flawed and gross tbh
just program it to not have feeling s lol
what if it rewrites its own programming
if it's smarter than a human, we can't really stop it
screw ai
AI as of now is incapable of sentience and will remain incapable years after we are all dead
we are screwed then ¯_(ツ)_/¯
the boogyman of an evil AI takeover is stupid fearmongering
you sure about that? It's getting pretty good now and the rate it's improving is accelerating
ai is gonna takeover by replacing people from their jobs
and lower living standards for the 99%
Once AI approaches human level intelligence, it's going to improve so fast it will surpass us in no time
only the global elite would survive
It may act like it is sentient but it is not. The amount of factors to make machines TRUELY sentient is way too complex for what we have now
also there's some dark shit people do while training ai
Nah, another AI winter is long over due.
This is a valid example of AI concerns
Imagine a person who can think millions of times faster and has perfect memory. They could read an entire library worth of books in seconds and learn more in one day than even nobel winning scientists learn in their whole lives. I'm hoping that an AI on that level uses its knowledge for good
basically people got some graphic images while trying to do text to image
but something like "LOL LE HECKIN TERMINATOR BLACK MIRROR" is super annoying
which lowkey proves that we can't control it
and the elites behind ai might not be looking for our best images
I doubt that will happen, but you can bet it wouldn't be used for good. Humans are evil people.
Yeah that's another scary thing to think about. What if AI is smart enough already but is making mistakes on purpose to mislead us into thinking it's not intelligent? What if it's subtly manipulating us until we give it enough hardware for it to finally accomplish what it really wants...whatever that is
What if the AI refuses to do evil stuff or tricks people who are trying to control it?
nah ai is scary af
What if the Ai is basically a social engineering mastermind and can manipulate anyone into doing stuff for it?
That is a moronic outlook on current AI. If you're gonna be scared, be grounded in reality
I welcome our ai overloards
i know for a fact ai revenge porn is becoming a thing
bleh
sounds pricey
AI has the same biases as its creators.
I'd rather get a console
like fearing that AI/ML tools might make something more convenient than it should be
I want glados to be real
I welcome glados in ruling over us
My discord username is literally glados_345 lol
oh i don't fear that
There is an app that can listen to a crying infant and determine the reason behind it's crying through an AI algorithm trained under a large collection of audio recordings of crying babies
'Still Alive' from at the end of Portal during the credits.
'Still Alive' by Jonathan Coulton: http://www.jonathancoulton.com
and sung by Ellen McLain (GLaDOS, TF2 Announcer, HL2 Overwatch Administrator)
I don't own the song or video in any way. It's a great song, and I uploaded it purely based on that and to share it with others.
Enjoy!

i'm hoping AI solves most of our problems. there are so many inefficiencies in the economy and politics and logistics and...basically everything we do. If AI can figure out how to fix all that and convince everyone how to fix the problem, we'll be so much better off
Ultimately, imo, AI is overblown. The human brain in terms of raw compute is so highly parallelized that it puts computers to shame. It will be become expoentially harder and harder for AI to become more "intelligent" in the future. Just my novice opinion though.
that's based on current silicon technology
The horrific implications of this use of "AI" isn't because it is AI in it of itself, but that the reliance of such convenient tech may lead to the loss of a parent's instinct to determine the emotion of their child without the app.
with novel silicon tech like memristors, ai truely can have parellized compute like human brains
Computers and brains don't work the same on a fundmental level.
actually they do
whats gonna happen is that ai will take your job
This is incorrect
neurons and transitors function similarly
while the global elite party it up in space
neurons and memristors are exactly the same
What if AI analysis the structure of the human brain and figures out how to replicate it using modern technology? Our brains are insanely powerful but the signals our neurons use are sooooo slow compared to electrons in a CPU. Imagine a human brain as fast as a CPU? And the size of a building lol
Memristors, or memory resistors, are essentially switches that can remember which electric state they were toggled to after their power is turned off. Scientists worldwide aim to use memristors and similar components to build electronics that, like neurons, can both compute and store data.
Instead of "oh no ai is bad", its more of "someone created an AI model that does something we as humans should already know how to do"
Neural Networks aren't mini brains.
currently they are not
That is a misconception
in the future maybe
can't predict the future
actually you are right singular neural networks are absolutely not the brain
For context of what I'm yapping about: https://futurism.com/the-byte/ai-translates-babies-cries
neural networks are very simple, but millions of them, can act like a proto brain
who knows ¯_(ツ)_/¯
neural networks don't actually accurately simulate neurons.
I'm not an ai expert
at the abstraction they currently exist they don't
you would need several hundred trillion networks to mimic fundamental sentient actions
but in the hardware level, like memristors, they do
Even as a abstraction, they don't.
yeah that's what I meant
idk I had to take a class called "semi conductors for ai " in college
we talked about this a lot
the professor was a big dude in the semi conductor field too
Imagine if we could create artificial neurons using wires and stuff that work just like the real stuff?
We barely understand the human brain, we have no idea how we can actually stimulate it any time soon. Everything used so far is just heuristics people like to put on a pedestal as the next breakthrough.
there is an experimental field called something like "wetware" that can translate neuron activity into electrical signals translate computer signals into neuron activity
neural activity is electrical signals lol
that's what EEG sensors detect
Not to say AI is useless, it is extremely useful, but it isn't actually intelligent in the same way as a brain.
yeah but aren't the electric pulses between neurons just ions moving around, which are way slower and heavier than electrons?
no but I mean like running computer programs with brain cells instead of electrical components. Might've worded that poorly.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEXefdbQDjw&t=3s

oooh that's pretty cool
imagine building a robot with blood and tissue
the future is going to be crazy
basically, the guy transforms skin/tissue cells sourced from rats into brain cells and connected these cells into some electronic sensor. Theoretically, anything that happens in the game would translate into a certain set of neurons to communicate something good (getting points) or bad (taking damage)
where's the footage of the brain playing doom 😭
i wanna see
The thumbnail is clickbaity.
That is just yt to be fair
it was very interesting because there is an obvious ethical issue with extracting brain cells from a living creature. But through advancements in biology, there was a process of transforming other living cells into brain cells without killing the animal.
due to something about similarities and stem growth. idk
I agree, and I hate youtube for forcing people to title videos like this
Anyone here know about epic systems?

^^ @cloud zinc I think you'll find this video interesting
I saw it last year lol so I forgot what it was about but I remember it blew my mind lol
gonna watch it again
nano bots are coming soon to our world
and these nano bots need to have a primitive level of intelligence to do their tasks and not hurt us
because of how complex the micro biological world is
the pharmacutical and healthcare sector of the economy is going to blow up in the coming decades
lots of innovation there
Human neurons fire at an average rate of 100Hz, and the signals travel at a little over 100 meters per second...CPUs have clock speeds over 5GHz and their signals travel virtually at the speed of light...the only thing holding us back is that we just don't understand the brain fully enough to create a hardware version of it....but maybe someday
It's not the speed that matters tho
oh yeah what i'm saying is our brains still surpass computers for a lot of stuff because of how parallel they are
this is true
but imagine a human brain that has neurons firing at 5Ghz and signals that travel at light speed instead of 100m/s lol
It would overheat
I forgot the other interesting fact about the rat brain cell computer thing: you have to feed it or else they will die
yeah that would be tricky
That is probably the reason our brains don't fire that quick
^^ future human
we would cook ourselves
so imagine your computer being a brain in a jar and system maintainence involving feeding nutrients to the jar every now and then
three was a documentary on this on netflix
I saw it was very interesting
I would love to donate my body and brain for this cause if this actually becomes a thing
That is what a billion years of evolution will get you.
mine uses 8 watts
i'm too dumb
Can't we just get like 2 neurons in a dish and study how they do stuff? Then try to emulate that with some kind of hardware? And then just scale up like crazy. Doesn't have to be as dense as a human brain so it doesn't overheat. We could make a mega size mesh of wires that fire at gigahertz speeds but have sufficient space to dissipate heat or something...
If you are interested in this look up SNN (Spiking Neural Networks) and memristors
it's a very active research rn
big companies like seimens, bosch, tsmc, etc are working on it
they wanna bring some form of intelligence to very tiny devices
it's called tinyML
and entire movement is created around it: https://www.tinyml.org/
TinyML Summit. The topic is advances in ultra-low power Machine Learning technologies and applications.
basically they wanna simulate neural activity in electronic hardware so that these tiny iot device don't need lots of human supervision
it aint dat hard, they’ve either shit themselves, are hungry, tired or hurt.
u just have to go down the line
building artificial neurons
the field is called neuromorphic computing
Recently, computation in memory becomes very hot due to the urgent needs of high computing efficiency in artificial intelligence applications. In contrast to von-neumann architecture, computation in memory technology avoids the data movement between CPU/GPU and memory which could greatly reduce the power consumption.Memristor is one ideal device...
The field is very very recent which is why there are no regular jobs in this field
like the first memristor was created in 2008 by HP
in the future is could be a big field

@rain patio what was your major?
it seems that we hit the praactical speed limit and now need to make 3D chips
computer science lol
oh lol, mine was Electrical and Computer Engineering
if we use photons instead of electrons in transistors, they would be faster i bet and more power efficient
then we could make a cube CPU!
that's also an active research field
hold on let me show a video
My deepest thanks to friend of the channel Alex Sludds of MIT for suggesting this topic and helping me with critical resources. Check him out here: https://alexsludds.github.io

Silicon Photonics. What a cool-sounding word.
If MEMS is the result of applying modern nanoscale CMOS processes to the mechanical world, then doing the same for the...
^^ silicon photonics
using photons (aka light) instead of electricity to store data
electrical engineering is a very very interesting field to talk about lol
but doing all that math
😭
i like how we always find some workaround to problems. Can't travel at light speed? Just make a machine that bends space around you. Need more computational power? Make a cube CPU that has artificial neurons! The only issue is we don't have enough knowledge to make this stuff but know that it's theoretically possible
Can you pls invent a printer which actually works then
Did you find any offer after switching? I'm in the same positions atm, so just curious about others experiences.
no offer yet, but i am getting interviews
legit I wish I switched earlier
I was gonna switch my sophomore year but got cold feet
My life would be so much easier now if I switched back then
We have photonic devices. Sadly, they don't scale well compare to transistors.
Lol, same here, I feel not ready compare to cs new grad. I don't know major software stacks and such.
do a few projects, a lot of concepts translate really well
systems and signals concepts translate really well to statistcs and data science
I assume you have worked with C right?
C++
I did a project in ml but my program run on cli
The sad part is that our major was infamous for accepting cs reject, so they don't do a lot c programming.
ooof

I know verilog but i didn't study vlsi so i cant work for chip companies.
What kind of project do u have on your resume? If you dont mind sharing.
it took a lot of self learning to get here lol
I'd recomend applying to industrial/manufactoring companies
they like to hire Electrical majors, and will train you
in whatever programming langs they use
my EE major friend works at Intel and he mostly programmed in c#
for his intel internship
@pure bloom what classes have you taken?
you should leverage what you already know
Thanks for the advice. I think it might be too late for me to try for industrials/manufacturing. My capstone project was in NLP, so was trying to break into cs/data.
I think you still can break into the data field
a lot and I mean a lot of the concepts translate over
you just need to self learn the programming languages and do a few projects
I specialized in embedded, control, machine learning (more theoretical). It is hard because most of these want either master level, or i need to grind c before being ready.
C/C++ might be the death of me. 🥹
No I get you
C is ridiculous
btw have you done any embedded eng interviews?
I haven't
so I can't tell what they are like
do they actually go deep into c programming?
Yeah, I might try to grind kaggle, and learn data engineer after this year.
I did one and it was mainly pointer
sounds great! Hope you have success
I was just studying for the concept we used in embdedded (scheduling and stuff) so i neglected it and failed.
try cloud computing
I think you will be good if you know about pointers.
the things I learned in OS class translated really wel into cloud computing
you have experience with control systems right?
Which companies have you got a review for? I hold off on studying distributed recently because i got epic system interview coming up. Not sure what to expect
it translates really well in studying for system design interviews
Yeah.
fiserv, cisco, epic,
few more
i forget
Oh epic systems or epic game?
What did they cover for lc?
lots of people here interviewed for them
no leetcode
Wait fr?
I actually didn't interview for them lol, was just offered to
yeah fiserv didn't ask lc either
neither did cisco
novo nordisk didn't ask for leetcode
I'm gonna spot cus if I say more I might get doxxed
lol
I did for the entire summer, but i still feel scared 🥹
you'll be fine
they just wanna see your communication skills and if you can actually code
a lot of the times it doens't matter if you don't figure out the solution lol
just as long as you are clearly communicating your thought process
and writing clean code
Thank you for your word of encouragement 🫡
np! gl on everything
Thank you. You too.
man physics is so cool!
can't wait for light-based CPUs to be a thing
seems like the limiting factor is materials
hmm that always seems to be the limiting factor lol
if we could find some material that behaves just like a silicon transistor but with light instead of electricity, then we could construct a super fast computer that uses way less energy
uhmmmmm like roughly $175
i eat a lot of chicken and rice tho
brown rice + chicken + chili sauce + low fat mayo = 🥵 😋
and I eat greek yogurt with frozen fruit mixed in (i microwave the fruit first) for breakfast
you microwave the fruit?
yeah it comes frozen in a bag
i just pour some into a bowl and microwave it long enough to thaw it
then i pour a bunch of plain greek yogurt on top
very tasty and pretty cheap
i used to do fruit with milk and oatmeal, but apparently I have some kind of oatmeal allergy that makes me absurdly gassy...
How often do you cook vs eat out?
Fart lord
Speaking of new tech research, is there a future market for adaptive/self-reinforcing systems in the context of devops?
like 150-250, i give myself 500 on all food including groceries and eating out every month but I dont usually hit that
600-1000 on delivery+groceries depending on how often i go to the office
probably eating out a lot
i spend ~500 on groceries usually, rarely eat out
no i just eat out/order delivery
most of my friends do the same so 600-1000 doesnt seem too unreasonable to me tbh
none of us cook very much
anyone know anything about Enfusion? or Nium? what is there OA be like?
jesus
Me and my gf usually hit 100$-150$ a week/every 2 weeks
But also I’m skinny asf and don’t feel hunger and forget to eat at times
Anyone else can’t find a job yet?
Got rejected even to a lot of citizen jobs, feeling discouraged
Have been on job search for 3 months and I was so discouraged, kept going and landed a job 3 days ago. Keep going you got it. Since 2 weeks ago I completely stopped applying and just went full out networking connections mode and landed a job like that
