like, my neighbor works at this company as a software dev and was like "BRO APPLY TO MY COMPANY" - long story short, he had like 0 to do with hiring and basically sent me job postings, and they were all IT tier 3 (like 0 coding, and basically supporting mainframe langs). They came to me with an offer like 5k more than I currently was making (which was partially my fault).

At the end of the day I said no. The job responsibilities, offer and vibes were not as good as my current job. So basically I burned a bridge with that company and now it's really awkward with my neighbor too lmao but idgaf.

2023 may not have been the best time to graduate; but, at least I'm done with that and have my time back (finished MBA - Finance in August). If interest rates could go down, it would really help me out. I've ended up in the situation where my own companies are a bit cash strapped because of that + need to finance growth, and, would rather pick up contract work or a job than borrow with rates as they are. I can find positions that want MBA+MSc. or more vaguely business+CS experience, but, there's not a ton of them out there now. Compensation on some jobs I've seen is literally the same as it was like 13-14 years ago when I did them (despite inflation, etc. since).

Revature seems so sketchy to me. I got contacted by them back in August, and they told me I had to pass a Java test to continue with their selection process. They gave me a study guidr for the test, but it was horribly written and had spelling and grammar mistakes everywhere. If I didn't already know Java, the guide would have confused me so much since it glossed over a lot of stuff that's pretty important lol. I decided not to take their test because I've heard bad things about Revature, like how they pay you minimum wage when they train you, your training is 40 hours a week, so you can't really supplement your poor pay with a second job without burning yourself out due to working over 40 hours a week, and I've talked to people who recently finished the training and were unable to be placed at a job since the market is so bad that Revature csn't even get people interviews
