the interest rate hikes are to prevent ppl from borrowing
Maybe and maybe not
You mean causing it 💀
but Americans are still spending money at all-time high rates
^^
zon screwed me for grad applications too lol
most grad app deadlines already passed
yea, i just gotta keep trying i guess
im learning opencv with c++
oh neat
i'm looking for potential project ideas maybe u could shoot me a few through dm (thx in advance)
yeah that's pretty interesting
i was thinking of doing some sort of slam implementation
2024 new grad grind
Finding ways to not get deported
if I bitch enough in discord the negative energy will manifest into spite and form a job for me
studying algos? how does one spend their summer to ensure a ng job
grind LC cuz you gonna get one chance and one chance only 😭
i doubt even that one chance with the hiring freeze
(btw is it still going on?)
which company?
google, all of faang except apple i guess
Yeah but I got morals
@pulsar mural
For your information, Yahkuna saved many Ukrainians
What about all the Yemenis
instead he told me to download jump king and 1v1 him
For your information, Yahkuna played against bots in pubs, not ranked

For your information, Yahkuna can bench 225 for reps
How long to hear back from Lockheed?
did you the HR questionnaire or ?
idk pal
Last time I applied at Lockheed it took them two months.
I'm not going to give up yet! I have a bunch of ideas for projects that I can make for my resume. I have 3 months to prepare projects and grind leetcode daily until I ascend to the next level and ace those interviews when the hiring season starts!
it starts next month
that soon? I thought it was Fall that they started recruiting
i thought you had internships
make an app that makes money
Did so little in that internship that I might as well have not done one lol
I literally just did training
like training videos for 4 months
and then got laid off
is that not what internships consist of?
idk if it's worth putting it on
in my interviews, i was asked what I did, and the interviewers sounded disappointed when I explained that I didn't write code and then got laid off lol
build a project and pretend you built that at the company
Just lie
you didn't write any code at all?
nah no way i could
I got u bro
just lie
this never goes wrong lol
Step 1
it was a cyber security internship
the alternative is lying
Lie abt ur experience and say u can do everything
or not putting it on my resume at all
Step 3
i find that playing up an actual project would be better then that
bro ngl in this market, you need something thicke on that resume
and you got paid to work
Wendy’s deez nuts in yo mouth fool
yeah that's why i'm going to make a bunch of good projects
thats an internship
Did u not just see my 3 steps
it goes into work history, just not on a resume. A company thought you were good enough to intern with them but they had to make cuts.
or whatever
I’m @rain patio sugar daddy take my advice fool
lol
No Kizzy wizzy
i realized today my graduation robes are overdue
No one cares
gonna have to pay like a $250 late fee
it's a racket tbh
$250 I’ll burn $250
yOu GoT SeVeN DaYs To LIVe
another way getting a master's degree has screwed me over
yeah I can tell
i think he means he just hates bosses idk
Anyone have a list of companies that are actively hiring
anywhere from the 1-3 yoe experience range
?
Job: "Do you have embedded experience?"
Me: "I make LED go blinky"
I am not sure if they consider 2023 grads
🥱
I literally applied to 200 jobs with 1-3 YOE
today
There's a lot of junior roles
no New Grad
so I'll say fuck it and count my volunteer experience and freelance as YOE
on LinkedIn?
yes
200 apps in1 day?
how r u not burnt out
Bruh I've applied to like 300 1-5 yoe on LinkedIn this week, not a single one cleared resume screen yet!
quick apply lol
you can send an applications in a few seconds
yeah bu tstill 200 apps in 1 day is a lot
Bruh i'm watching videos of cs grads with no experience who got jobs in 2021, and their resumes are a lot less impressive than I thought they would be. Stuff that I definitely could do in the next month. 2021-2022 truly was a different era 😭
If I had graduated in 2021, I could have gotten a job with my current resume smh'
yeah in my school there were people 0 exp and got swe jobs (like literaly 0 internships and only uni projects)
I have 0 xp basically 😭
nahh your resume is better than 0 xp, i believe in you

yeah true but i like leetcode
way more interesting than the stuff i did in school 😭
I'm no longer in school lol
what does that mean for me
you sure? How else am I supposed to prep for coding interviews?
I'm going to work on projects as well
LinkedIn skills assessments
huh never tried those
my goal is to get into an average company with good work/life balance that pays at least $60k
I don't want to work at some crazy competitive place
I just want a job 😭
bruh how tf do i get defense jobs
even those places just ignore my application
I'm not experienced enough apparently
ewww no
I was going to go with revature but nah sounds kinda bad
I am burnt out but I'd rather get a job than suicide
applied for deloitte never got call back 😭
So many companies have emailed me, "Your resume is outstanding but we unfortunately went with another candidate"
Like what does that mean?
LMAO
Why am I getting calls for senior roles from Tesla and other companies and nothing for new grad or junior
It's bizarre

Recruiters reach out to me
Makes 0 sense
me 2
i think defense and gov emphasizes on c/c++ which i suck at lmao
have faith in yourself, i just started leetcode myself, basically same ideology as you, i got nothing good from school, gotta grind
I just want to get into web dev to start
i don't see myself doing any crazy stuff with software lol
I just want to show up, make some stuff, then get paid
maybe become an indie game dev someday
for fun tho
Is My Customer Moving --> Begins to hire New Grads
55 minutes later
NOT ACCEPTING APPS
WHAT
do yall think its bad for new grad resume to have more space on on-campus extracurriculars/leadership roles than for personal projects?
- Is it relevant to the role?
- Can I highlight other things that are related to the role or company if I take it out?
Remove it if the first two is a no.
Remove it if the last is a yes.
No company cares if you were Freshman President. They care about if you can do the job and have relevant experience.
Unless it's something like politics I guess
how do you interview on weekdays while working full-time
you take time off everytime you have an interview? im so fucked lmao i just started
pretty sure just schedule it during your lunch break
if you take a 1hr lunch, that should cover any interview
did anyone get reply back from blackrock yet
2024 ng role? they said they're going to look into the applications + oa from september
what if you work onsite
i can interview in my car i guess
What’s a power day
Ahh ya you’d have to schedule time off for that, or tell them your leaving early

oh thanks
anonymous person from blackrock looked at my linkedin so i thought i was just rejected or sth
you got interview?
no
hopefully i will get one in june
for which company?
Spending $357 on shoes doesn’t mean you’re employed or even have money/savings. Could be going on a credit card.
i don't have an interview yet, i'm just hoping someone will interview me in June

Job hopping sounds annoying since you have to work around the fact that you have a regular job
Especially with not a lot of PTO days
we’re doomed
you're absolutely right...there is no other way other than this
this becomes an issue as some companies have a limit to the number of PTOs you can take in a month
also if you start taking PTO a month or two into your new job; it can look pretty sus

what also looks sus is taking PTO on a wednesday for no reason, regardless of YoE
If I job hop and have to do onsites I'm probably going to try to ask for Monday onsites since I can use the long weekend excuse for plausible deniability
also, leverage time zone differences if possible
yeah didnt consider that
WHAT IS THIS
blackrock ng 2024
on god i aced that OA they sent out
the work that I put in has finally paid off
anyone get a response from them yet tho
yeah living in the northeast helps a lot with that
it's also easier when your boss can't just fire you on the spot when he gets suspicious of you
Don't worry, you can have 0 from my huge collection of 0.
Lol what
This isn't true? I'm just paranoid?
That's good to know
Hm
Yeah true
Thanks this helps
I have used this excuse but it was actually true
it was a thursday
and I went to work on the friday haha
oh wow you admitted to that?
ouch lol
I’ve had a few times where I overslept and had to finesse my way out of suspicion
ofc those are always the days the boss texts you right at the beginning of the day and you wake up and immediately panic because it’s sat for like 45 min
so now I just set an alarm to wake up and clock in a half hour early, check emails and texts, and then snooze for a bit longer until I have to get my kids ready
Arcane is so good
Codesignal scoring is not the same anymore
I finished 1, 2, 4 and skipped 3 -> 500 WTF
yes
"reviously, the General Coding Framework used a 600-850 score range, and other Frameworks produced a raw score out 1,000. Now, when you complete a skills evaluation that is framework-based, your coding score will range from 200-600 and your coding report will give visibility into the mastery of individual skills being evaluated."
^idk what this means...are scores out of 600 now for general coding assessment?
Oh ok then 500 isnt too bad
^if that's the case that it's out of 600...they only mention framework based
can't wait for recruiters to not realise it got changed and reject everyone for getting 5-600s
any recommendations for places to apply outside of indeed linkedin glassdoor angellist? for canada if that matters
Which company u took codesignal for? Also do u remember what kind of question you got for 4? I struggle with those
I use handshake thru my university
Very few Canadian unis are on Handshake, ask me how I know 🥲
ohh i haven't heard of that, unfortunately i already graduated so not sure if i would have access even if it did exist (U Alberta)
handshake is a desert for me. I already applied to everything relevant a month ago 😭
la gata
did you graduate yet

dont work at publicis sapient
they just screwed everyone over
by pushing the start date for spring graduate of 2023 to april 2024
Congrats! I'm proud of you
AYO WTF
What are handshakes?
yeah they fuck the entire cohort not just Atlanta group but the entire United States group
publicis sapient rejected me after sys design so i asked my recruiter for feedback and they said i did well on the actual sys design part but my answer to what is your favourite programming language was not detailed enough
Ford gives out interviews rarely or am I just being ghosted every time 🥲
I think it can be random
Don't take it too personally
most major consulting firms including Deloitte moved start dates to 2024
my Deloitte offer got pushed to January 2024 so I had to get another offer and reneg
bruh
bruh what did they expect you to say? Something about how every day you pray to a picture of python or something? smh
maybe you dodged a red flag
I dunno
Maybe my interviewer doesn’t like python enjoyers
what is more generic than python
java?
how is saying python a red flag
A red flag is saying "My favorite language is Haskell/C++/Erlang/Brainfuck"
i guess python is too hip and cool for this day and age. Gotta be a fan of a legacy language or something
I mean it makes sense to say your fav language = team's language
In an interview you wanna kiss ass much ass as possible I guess
it’s a consultancy
what codesignal score do I need for Block phone interview?
"I enjoy the intricacies of COBOL and have been using COBOL since before I was born 🤓 "
gets the job
it’s not like i was interviewing for a specific team
u are way overthinking this LOL
what
go???
where are u seeing go jobs lol
probably not even close to the top 5 here
I'm a Java main 🤓
Python is one of the biggest languages here I dunno where you’re getting your info
I’ve never experienced that but fair enough
That's a very reddit like sentiment
Yeah hahaha
People who openly hate or love languages don't come across as really good developers
Cool I am
So many companies use Django and Flask for their backend
Java, Spring, Hibernate is prime consultancy tech stack
Yea
I did a multiple choice spring oa for cognizant and that was enough to know I don’t wanna touch it
wow look at you
React is ez, if you already know how to web dev you can pick it up fast
cant believe you graduated from pre-k @pulsar mural
No, 80% of of jobs I am seeing on LinkedIn are asking for react
I really want a spring job
go for fall instead
It was what they used at my first job, so I used it for 3 years
spring is nice
angular is actually kinda good
Not gonna lie though, Spring Boot + Hibernate + Angular is amazing to work on.
I thought that was the case and angular was dying and outdated, but had some other people in a different discord be like hell nah
and then I took a second look at angular and it seemed kinda cool
Observables work pretty well for CRUD websites though, not sure about more complex use cases
I have 0 web experience so I have no idea what the merits of those are
slow and steady
backend dev is more fun
I mean I know what observables are from javafx, and I was amazed when I discovered them
but if you like visual stuff, UI can be fun too
front end is a necessary evil we must suffer through 😔
I like to do Photoshop. I wish there were jobs where I could do Photoshop + Backend
if I could get a job doing JavaFX stuff I would love it, but alas nobody wants desktop apps
javaFX is dead
learn spring or do kotlin
no tf it aint
how is spring an alternative to javafx tho

they're like 2 different things
yikes
True, anyway.. Angular is dying slowly. It lives only through developers who already learnt it and can't let go.
y'all can leave the Java jobs to me
spring is actually used by places
i'll do them
yeah, but spring is not replacing javafx
i havent seen any javafx requirement lol
do you mean swing?
no
different domains
yeah that's my point
Who uses Java for UI WTF
people will do either electron or QT
Did no one learn anything after JSP
Java is the best language don't @ me
@swift falcon
i mean if you see a posting to a job requiring javaFX then by all means
well they are like non existent so I see your point if we're talking about practicality
if you wanna do mobile dev, can go with kotlin tho
I don't like kotlin
Kotlin vs React native, thoughts?
react native multi-platform
a fair comparison would be flutter vs react native vs actual native with two different codebases
i think if you know JS/regular react (or can pair it with TS), go with react native
if you like verbose langs, flutter(dart)
dart is basically python and java/c++ had a child
Aren't they different, you need to learn React for Web and React native for Mobile
the learning curve wont be huge tho
from one to the other
Oki, who wanna make a project with me?
the one thing i'll say, flutter tooling on vscode is amazing
I'm sold, React is the way
eh had to do it for a class
there is a local state DoT job that is advertising for angular + java, which sounds like heaven for me tbh
its not bad if you can do typed langs
can get very messy
yeah state management gave me a headache for flutter
once i figured it out tho it wasnt bad
null safety a big thing for flutter
so you're forced to write the code that wont fail at runtime
yeah
you have to use the ! and ? operators a lot
I noped out of Mobile dev and frontend coz of earning potential,
Backend and Distributed systems jobs pay much more with years of experience
i def wanna look into distributed more
i think ebay uses it
A side-by-side comparison of React Native and Flutter. I built a mobile chat app with both frameworks to understand differences in developer experience, tooling, code, and performance.

dart only revived bc of flutter
it was dead prior
True, it's just that entry level SDE I and II jobs the pay is very similar for Frontend or Backend devs. It's only after few levels you see the real difference.
google being google
honestly react just using typical js makes it a stronger contender
imo i just find js funky
.... which has been criticized as an evil tech corporation

figma balls
Figma has best multiplayer
yeah tbh
hard to do data engineering as a ng and thats why i kinda picked it
it has potential and gives you a good overview of how systems are designed
yah i think for that purpose, going to distributed is gonna be a less steep curve
can always switch internally after a year
yeah pretty much a slow experience since im more or less new
ya my manager is open and encouraging me to look around and dabble with improving stuff
nah he's actually encouraging me to do readings/get certs and explore stuff
bank 👀
did you do swe?
i would
damn
seems that you changed course now tho
Oh hey I have two one month internships on my resume should I just put that it was from Dec - Jan
Instead of just Jan - Jan
They were just winter internships
Are recruiters that specific on it?
Ya
Ya probably not the best idea then
Is 65k with no benefits a good salary with no years of experience? In Georgia
do u have another offer
get 1 yoe
dip
if not take other offer
hard rn
No i don't.... my amazon offer was rescinded... so no choice...
Ive been in this company for 6 months so far.... do you think hiring starts again in aug till dec?
Wait amazon rescinded??
I thought they only pushed back?
No mine was late 2022 offer... they promised to push it to 2023 but rescinded
Yeahh...😭😭
Job offers are crazy hard rn
Should be enough for a single guy living in Georgia
Accept and then if you find something better rescind
Yeah.. im so depressed.... got an offer for 130k and now doing for half of it...
they just pushed back 6 months
this is rly good in this market, cuz most ppl dont even have a job
Is this Atlanta?
It’s def on lower end of spectrum but livable imo
I live in Atlanta for school and avg apt would prob be around 1700/month so u prob have around 30k yr to spend on other expenses
Yeahh for an international like me... i came here for earning money for my business investment back in my country and i can live only for 3 to 4 years here.... I can't save more if i can't earn more... tbh im living under 1k a month rn....
have u tried negoing?
Exact recruiter words "Either take this offer or leave... we have more than 200 candidates if we post a job for 10 minutes"
are u on like visa where u have to find employment in 60 days or leave? hm i'd prob sign the offer then maybe apply to more jobs and renege if u get better offer
That's what I'm doing right now.... i am on f1 opt something like same as you mentioned but the grace period is for 90 days....
i see, how much time do u have left?
i think if u still have time u could just sign the offer and then push start date by like 1 month
Rn i have like 75 or so....😭😭😭
that way u can apply for other jobs in the meantime
Alright I'll do that... thanks mate!
Gross, Reyna main
Lmao
anyone noticed any company actively recruiting for new-grads?
he doesnt know
anyone interviewed at epic before? i have an interview with them tomorrow
When will they start recruiting new grads 😭
LETS GO

No way u fked 2 sum
no
Then what’s the issue?
Oh yea i feel you. I should remove react from my resume too. I cannot answer any trivia
epic apparently is like a cult so you have to let them know you love the company and you love health and shit
when i interviewed recently the ones doing the phone interviews were volunteering to do so
for snowflake?
but tbh I didnt get offer so my opinion doesnt mean much
anyone know if doing a payment gateway integration project w/ Stripe API for a fake ecommerce (coffee beans) site is a good backend project?
LGTM
Approved
mmm makes sense been seeing a couple reddit post how epic is shitty ty tt
you should still definitely go for it, just saying your interviewer has prob been sipping the kool aid for years
oh yeah still definitely going for it just for the interview practice
already did the 4 hour assessment lmaooo so might as well do the interview
i heard that the onsite is almost a guarantee for the job as long as u passed the 4 hour assessment
a no leetcode 30 min interview, 200k offer in nyc
tbf they had a leetcode OA before it, but they just reviewed during the interview
a friend of mine: graduated 2021 with zero internships; blank resume; got a 150k offer at IEX a month after graduating
also no leetcode in the interview loop
what was their portfolio like
he has a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from a big school in new jersey and that's it
i hope he isn't in this server
2021 was a bless time rip

take me back
instead in 2024 we will have about 500 companies hiring new-grads and probably in a volume of like 100 for a big company and a lot less at other companis and there will be multiple rounds with LC medium and hard questions
as long as theres enough jobs idgaf
I wonder how those ppl are doing now 🤔
Most amazon new grads got their offers postponed
i was one of those people and did amazing on my talent review for 2022, i was on track for promotion to L5 later this year
then half my dept including me got laid off
leetcode is useless and doesn’t correlate to ur swe skills
Ya but u could cheat on the OA
That's if you ace the OA they just go over your answer, ask some LP questions, and boom done
Things were so simple
Damn, slowly dying inside with one rejection mail after another. It's not stopping.
i combat that by not applying at all
anyone have any good tips to prep for an itnerview tomorrow
Each rejection is getting you closer to an offer!
Offer to interview with god
Certainly! Here are some tips to help you prepare for your interview tomorrow:
Research the company: Gain a solid understanding of the company's history, values, culture, and recent news. This knowledge will enable you to ask relevant questions and show your interest in the organization.
Review the job description: Familiarize yourself with the requirements and responsibilities of the position you're interviewing for. Be prepared to explain how your skills and experience align with the role.
Prepare answers to common interview questions: Practice answering typical interview questions, such as "Tell me about yourself," "Why are you interested in this role?", and "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" Prepare concise and compelling responses that highlight your qualifications and achievements.
Showcase your accomplishments: Prepare specific examples from your past experiences that demonstrate your skills and achievements. These examples will help you answer behavioral questions effectively and provide evidence of your capabilities.
Dress appropriately: Dress professionally for the interview, even if it's a remote or video interview. Make sure your attire is suitable for the company culture and the position you're applying for.
Be punctual: Plan to arrive early for an in-person interview or log in a few minutes before the scheduled time for a remote interview. Punctuality demonstrates your respect for the interviewer's time and shows your professionalism.
Practice good body language: Maintain eye contact, sit up straight, and exhibit confidence through your body language. Avoid fidgeting or crossing your arms, as these can convey nervousness or disinterest.
Prepare your own questions: Prepare a list of thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer. This shows your genuine interest in the role and helps you gather valuable information about the company and position.
Follow up with a thank-you note: After the interview, send a personalized thank-you note to the interviewer(s) expressing your appreciation for their time and reiterating your interest in the position. This gesture demonstrates your professionalism and can leave a positive impression.
Remember to stay calm, be yourself, and showcase your unique qualities and qualifications. Good luck with your interview!
does chatgpt have any suggestions on not getting absolutely raw dogged by an unexpected question?

sad, depressed
working at a buffet to pay my bills
as an international, I can't even do that 😢
brooo that sucks
Hello
I need resume critique from the regulars in here who got a job etc
Who wanna rip me a new one
you think we have jobs here 😭
LOL
i'd work in the coal mines if they paid $20/hr
and gave me a gas mask or something to filter out the coal dust
I certainly don't know 😭
Like an internship offer letter, except it's for full-time
when i got one for my intern it looked like this
oh i left a name on that
anyways they send you a docusign
Oh I miss docusign
when do companies start their background checks usually? I start mid july and I still haven't got any email from them yet
I usually just look for the dollar signs on the letter
Payscale is the latest new grad role on LinkedIn, 825 apps already https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/3621769725/
Posted 7:23:33 PM. DescriptionThe Tier 2 team supports our entire product suite, with focus on our B2B applications…See this and similar jobs on LinkedIn.
fkin hell man how do we have any chance
i keep trying to tell myself it's going to be okay in 2024 but damn if every single job that pops up gets 1k apps in the first few hours and 10k in 1 day how do we even get through the filter
and that's if your top-notch, even with 2 interships and a 3.8 gpa and some good projects and skills in full stack dev, c++, cloud, and mobile i dont really see how I can compete against T20 uni students with 4 big-tech interns and flashy projects they got help with at uni
Focus less on the competition, and more on your applications
Right now new grad listings are slowing down
More of them will open up around summer/fall
ya im waiting for that. Just have to keep prepping and try my best this summer, if I can just get a return offer ill be so much more confident and less worried about the new-grad search. it'll just be for practice to see if i can get a higher paying offer at that point
wont rly know till august so the next 2 months are just going to be prep time
wait didnt this company go bankrupt lmfao
or was that a similar company
Bruh,
I just got rejection mail before application confirmation mail, wtf
That shit is wild
Same my friend, close to 1.5k apps now. Few recruiters reached out and ghosted, that's all!
I feel like the government side is the play right now since the economy is so volatile
Nope, must of been a diff one
Holy....
1500!? It's over for me then
I'm just going to grind projects and leetcode until the start of the next hiring season, which I assume is in the Fall?
My resume and experience are so basic that I can't really do quality lol
Tried referrals, cold emails, cover letters, reaching out to recruiters after applying, job fairs, etc as well. The market is shit.
Lol self employed
anyone with internships stil doing projects?
looking to pour some time, but not sure if its just better spent purely leetcoding and system design

wtf they have enough jobs to apply to
frigg off seniors
gotta pay the mortgage and provide food for the kids
they can use severance for that
, i wonder if companies will take a senior for NG
no way
Databricks NG rejected me coz I had experience!
tbh
u should just apply and not look at this stuff
no point in even thinking about it
Yes, I'm international. Most applications in last 3-4 months, though started last year.
Yes it's sad, getting ghosted by WITCH also
I literally have 1 upcoming interview that too for a job in Taiwan, time to move I guess
bro 😭
yoo taiwan has the highest IQ average in the world i believe, that's an upgrade
cha-ching
IQs not gonna pay my bills
one way to find out
USD?
I know, I'd take that in a heartbeat
Sad, whats your yoe?
Refer me bro, I have practical exp ._.
It's cool, hope we meet in Taiwan few years down the line
do they speak english in taiwan? I don't know much about it, but it's probably a pretty hi tech country since they make a lot of circuits and stuff
would be scary bordering china tho
Jesus, $59K monthly 🤑
YAHKUNA
MATADA
this just goes to show, even when u go to a rando* school like mine
you can always secure the bag
this happened to me at jp morgan chase
i applied to a role that required 1 yoe, they found someone with 5 and literally updated the job posting from Junior to Senior and added 5+ yoe in the desc

anyone done spaceX interview? what’s the process
taiwan job?
June is here, where are all the jobs we were promised?
wait till tomorrow trust me
surely amazon will honors 6 months agreement
amazon just pushed all new grad start dates back 6 months in the UK yesterday
it’s all over
I trust you bro

We have ultimately decided to move forward with other candidates at this time.
who are these candidates
i wanna look at their resume

Stalk the company LinkedIn, when someone gets added with the role you were interviewing for you will know what their resume was.
Then build a profile of that person. Show up outside their home while they wfh. Harass them online on LinkedIn with fake accounts that say “I worked with Mime before and he was the most rude and incompetent programmer I’ve met” on his posts so his coworkers begin to suspect him. Siphon the gas from his car in the morning so he shows up late to work . Report him to the fbi for illegal software activities so they start looking into his network traffic .
You got SoFi though, what's the point
It literally hurts to another degree, especially when they don't give back constructive feedback...like it's indirectly saying thanks and bye
Sucks, but due to legal reasons most companies don't
You get better at telling where you messed up though as you interview more
if you respond to the email asking for feedback the recruiter will probably call you
i have never been told no when asking for feedback
You've been getting lucky, always worth asking though. Most of the times I've gotten ghosted after asking, sometimes I've gotten answers.
your sofi offer is in london?
londons cool but ive only visited
london is amazing
Anyone get BlackRock ng oa yet?
is it auto
Nice, good luck! Would be cool to intern there
ah yea
is ok if i dm u real quick
tax probably wouldnt be too bad
our lowest bracket is 0% and most interns will be in that

did anyone hear back from blackrock?
2024?
well i've only done it 5 times or so but yeah
expedia, capital one, a couple other tech companies and banks and some startups all did
yeah
lol
How do y’all feel about/deal with the idea that software will no longer be the easy play it was but will instead become similar to finance: i.e potentially very lucrative but saturated and quite hard to succeed in
I don't feel anything

did people who applied to blackrock 2024 complete the hirevue already?
just got the email to complete them within 5 days
Has anyone heard of 2nd June, i.e. tomorrow, being a Virtual Hiring Day at JPMC?
Get into CS only for fun because getting a job is nearly impossible right now.
I've heard of 2nd June
Most people in the US barely do leetcode and aren’t even aware of what codeforces is so we’re quite a ways away from that
tbh at the end of the day it doesnt matter what other people do
Like I literally didn’t even know what codeforces was until some Indian people told me
if you can build shit and pass interviews thats what matters
Did you get an email
Microsoft rejecting w referrals too
What about security?
Security is a bitch to get into entry level
tech is over. please leave the industry so it’s easier for everyone else 👍
My recruiter told me tech is over
Then he follows that up with bonus and promotions are cancelled?
Hes gonna followup with another mass layoff in the future

Yeah, I guess all those toxic reddit folks were doing us a favor
If you bring up Reddit you might get charged $
(Reddit could die tomorrow and I would be a much happier person)
Of course they are. APIs are expensive.
it's all cost/benefit
I still use old.reddit
better than the Mobile UI abomination of NuReddit
they'd have to ask more money from Daddy China for that.
watches as my social credit score plummets
Reddit could simply...make their stuff better
but that's too simple
having to work in SanFran
Also it's all Principal, Staff and Senior positions
lol
can Microsoft hurry up and reject me ffs
no can do, must wait another month
For what role?
MAIDAP
Lol they haven't rejected me yet either

It's been a couple months so I'm assuming rejection
So I gotta ask, who learned Ruby during their classes?
Because I'm wondering what these employers who are looking for Freshers with Ruby experience are getting people from.
projects or internships
Sure I guess.
job descriptions are wish lists
not "you have to have this" to even breathe in our prescence
they're usually made by HR or people that don't know shit
like so many entry level security jobs require CISSP, a certification that requires 5 years of industry experience
Yeah I try to keep that in mind, but all the rejections aren't helping to reinforce that point
bro i been eyeing this state govt job for like 3 weeks but it’s so hard to sit down and apply in the format they want
I have to like put a skill down and then put my background for the skill or how I relate to it, there’s a whole template
I’m gonna spend like 3 hours doing this and get rejected
Use ChatGPT somehow?
dang that’s not a bad idea
Govt jobs have like the worst apps lol
New Relic removed their Associate SWE job listing within an hour of posting

welcome to the club.
have you tried referrals?
no

Yoyo, so I am graduating next year (april 2024) and I have a lot of time this summer. So far I have a total of 1 year of SE experience (6 months volunteering + 4 month internship). Since I am only taking 1 course this summer, I am planning to spend that time on LC grind which I havent done much of yet and I have a few project ideas that I wanna work towards. Any other tips on spending my summer wisely so by the time I start applying for new grad positions, I am more ready?
Ah look at this guy trying to prepare for all the bs to come
Fuckin wish someone told me a year ago things would be so shit
I learned cause I was hoping to land an internship this summer but that didnt go well LOL
some people have this delusional belief that things will improve, its not lol, its about to get a whole lot worse when you have '24 graduates who actually know whats to come and are doing everything they can while they have time
no
recruiters dont look at that shit
cold msging got me an internship at linkedin (they said it didn't help but I got an OA invitation almost 20 minutes later) but granted that was before the economy flushed itself down the toilet
Rope
It’s all a numbers game. More apps more chances. More projects more chances. More experience more chances. More fake experience more chances. Oops last one was an accident.
ha
something like thousand apps -> 10 callbacks -> 1 offer in this shithole of an economy
Yes
Employers be like: 🫵😂
"You want a new grad SWE job? Sorry, minimum 10 YOE"
For $50k/year
CS is going to become underpaid and ultra competitive
Won't be worth it anymore 😭
LOL
can't be a senior dev if you can't even get an entry level job 😦
I hope this whole hiring freeze comes back to bite employers
Screw those people smh
Soon they'll cry about not having enough senior developers
lol no
And then the people trying to get into entry level will be like "maybe if you hired more entry level devs, you'd have more seniors by now..."
it's so dumb
how is this sustainable
sure training is expensive, but then you get a ton of seniors in 5 years
entry level is bloated, but its bloated by a buncha fucking idiots who cant fucking do fizz buzz, fucking over capable people
i mean, i have a job
it is true though theres been a push in recent years to 'learn to code' and a ltota people dont know what they be doing
or maybe im just fucking annoyed at how much higher the hiring bar became in a year and how all my friends graduated in 2022 and landed cushy nyc with easy interview processes even though they dont knoiw shit
yea i only spend every day thinking about how i should just ignored my interests and not gotten a masters degree
i mean god knows how far back that sets my career, 2022 job vs 2023 job
cause i was fuckin interested and wanted to learn stuff, and mainly cause it didnt require any extra time
i coulda graduated in 3 with a bachelros but it didnt feel right
i just spend every day now thinking what a waste it all was
how do you get referrals, it’s not like applying where they’re out there
Who asked
I'm so envious of 2021 and 2022 grads
literally graduated at the best time ever
THey keep telling me "It'S jUsT yOuR rEsUmE"
yeah sure
wasnt a cs masters funnily enough, it was a masters degree in machine learning, cause i figured that would become very relevant, took a buncha cloud shit in my last year too
but apparently the real answer was to just graduate in 2022 like everyone else, interests be damned
Hello friends. Anyone moving to the bay (ideally San Mateo) and looking for roommates?
thats what i get for being ambitious
did you get a job there? 😭
if so, how
Yup
Internship
Like last year?
Skill, not luck.
Suuure
I applied to over 300 places in the past 2 months and have nothing
2022 was way easier it sounds like
I dunno man. All my friends are unemployed
I should have applied back then
Even the ones that got laid off / offers pulled two months ago
Idk how to stand out anymore
I just can't compete when years of experience is the measuring bar
ft
Fact. Masters aren’t as respected from what I’ve seen. It’s viewed as a career change
I wish I had known about this channel back when I started college in 2019 😭
yeah unfortunately
I don't need a visa to start working though, I can work for 3 years without sponsorship.
yeah
true that
rip
I just tell them outright
no point going through 4 rounds then getting rejected
if the hiring manager likes you enough; there might be some cases where they're willing to ignore your visa status
uhhhh occasionally, but I thought the stuff they talked about was for super tryhards who wanted to work at top companies
I just want a regular job 😦
yeah fr lol
2024 ng is gonna be a shitshow
I just got a call for a client support job (non software related lol)
It said it was a remote job when I applied, but they told me it's in person when they called
But it's actually really really close to where I live, like about 2 miles away, so that's not too bad
And it pays $16.5/hr
That'll keep me alive until I can get a software job
Going from a $12/hr part time buffet job to a $16.5/hr full time customer support job isn't so bad hehe
I'm basically getting a 37.5% per hour raise!
Idk if you have this in the US but in the Uk we have something career fairs. Either company tells potential job offering or you display your projects to a HR. (Obv this is in real life)
It’s not always HR. But it someone from the company
we have career fairs here too
If they like you they will referee you.
that's how i got my first internship
Maybe I can work my way up from customer support to SWE
Oh wait this is an IT support job lol
hmmmm
For the really good companies, their career fair/open house are invite only
bro if they're paying you that little you could probably make more working at the local taco bell
how come
and no you cant go from customer support to swe, shit dont work like that lol
I'll already have some experience with the business. And I already know how to code...
I'll be better suited than some fresh new grad
i mean it is possible but that shit takes like, years id think
it doesnt matter, they're making him show up on-site for 16 bucks an hour
which i mean, just work at tacobell or the local grocery store at that poitn
bro i havent had taco bell in a long time, i only found out last friday the quesarito doesnt exist anymore
I also do not think it is possible to make the transition from support to SWE easily.
The responsibility and tasks of the roles are vastly different and unless you are in a small company, there is little exposure between departments
I also feel like people who say “they know how to code” or just describe the SWE role as coding tend not to be really in the know of the industry
IT could lead to an SRE transition in the future
But more likely from like a sysadmin role vs a support role
Anythings possible
That I’ve seen happen
Because the skills from sysadmin do transfer over to sre
But also does depend on the company
Because some treat sysadmins as glorified support
you just agreed with him, it's not just coding
Mf**Rs will burn in hell!!
I kept that stupid project question for later
Ouch. I typed it out fast and then used ChatGPT to polish it up.
If the position opens up then please lmk 🙏🏻
lol coding for me is like prob 40-50%, rest is design, dealing with stakeholders and meetings
Fuck, I guess I'll pursue a Masters. I trust in your predictions Yahkuna, keep them coming.
I would def not say it’s MOSTLY coding
Yeah I imagine at a startup you’re doing most coding
At big tech half your job is red tape
And then as you move up you just get into more abstract processes further away from code
Agile is chill tbh
Yeah like if you have a micromanager no matter what philosophy you have it’ll suck
Well micro managers suck
Some managers are goated
Design docs and meetings mostly for L3
There is lots of coding still but I’d say prob like half of the job is coding
It does depend on the company tho, like amazon has less red tape than g but prob more than a startup
MENENDEZ FAN
Usually it’s like a proposal for your project and how it’ll be implemented / any considerations to take into account
I’m referring to G
anyone got into Adobe apprenticeship? Do you know the hiring rate for full-time?
new here
is this useful for non software dev
im looking for IT/ Cybersecurity/ Database/ Networking type of stuff
fr same here
meetings + coding + talking to people from other teams if you need help and waiting on them
the red tape is annoying
is it true that google has a mono repo @sonic coral ?
Most people here are SWE, but everyone is welcome here. You'd probably get more relevant discussion for these paths from a diff discord though.
Yes but we have a bajillion tools to work with it that make committing code dumb easy
Like our dev ex is so seamless it’s crazy
except @pulsar mural he’s not welcome here
yeah makes sense. thanks
that’s the biggest issue where i’m at, so many wrappers and not enough documentation for those
bettt
almost everything is a black box and you need to request mad access
red tape annoying fr
My org is Java mainly
i get it tho
lots of private data and the proper security needs to be used
the issue with api wrappers is that if the team changes their code without informing you, your shit breaks for no reason
When I say red tape I don’t even mean like access to resources I mean like approvals for projects / launches and stuff like that
ya same
that was my internship kinda lol
had to wait for the proper access first for those wrappers
since apis require auth
and interns get least privilege ofc
tho i’m glad interns don’t deploy to prod
o
yeah can’t see code
bruh
getting paid to not do your job sounds like bliss
Bazel is good for speed.
I’m 95% sure they left my feature toggled off after I left
It is a decent amount, never had a problem with it after setting up
Not sure how many companies actually use bazel, so it’s prob not worth to learn
Late stage startup
they gave us a brand new project i’m pretty sure that repo is dead
make people like you
Light mode for discord is cursed
Any international students getting jobs?

already graduated
OPT starts soon really worried
You forgot to mention that above is #full_timers below is #2023_grads

my king 👑
why does he have no eyebbrows
improved aerodynamics
hey i'm on here LOL
i decided not to go with revature btw
I talked with some people who recently went through the training program, and none of them were able to get jobs, so Revature just laid them off
not even Revature can get people jobs lol
🫡
Cursed company
One day you may graduate to #full_timers the land of car talk, papaya salad and complaining about taxes.
