varies by course too, cs is more expensive than something like english
Can't they just self teach themselves uni cs
take english degree, self teach uni cs
profit
your from Edinburgh?
🤔
not
im not, but i live there
Sage mode naruto
wats ur uni?
uni of edinburgh
better be ready for some PAIN
No ty
damn u where cracked never realized
??
xd
he is the goat
i appareciate the compliment but this uni sucks ass
i'm just here for the name on my resume
nvr thought he went to insane school lmao though u grind alot
it has great value in uk
yeah
bro i hear other people from top unis say their uni is mid/sucks for cs, it's depressing
but i mean the quality of teaching is awful
it's cause uni rankings are based on research
mostly
damn but research be dope
u got free ride on top
damn it's insane costly to study as international
U have same struct as US, get into uni and decide the major?
gotcha
what projects.. impress recruiters/ prospective employers..
the medical thing is almost always the one that they ask me about in interviews
that was embedded stuff
nope
had to learn it as i made that
and for the hardware issues i talked to the uni technicians
what hardware issues did you encounter
i fried a microcontroller and like 2 multiplexers and 3 motors
to this day i still dunno what the problem was, but i eventually managed to get it to work lol
rip
Awesome stuff
wtf u implemented ?
but most of it was just like, "i wanna do xyz. what components can do this"
Nah
thats what i thought
At least not for me
Idk if you use it heavily maybe
But u can always use playground credits
facts
i dont use it that much but i feel like i might start using it a lot when i start work lmao
Well you can always pay for it when you start working then
Also try using the API credits + a 3rd party client
That's what my friend did
bet ill look into that thank you
oh okay
Literally a wizard

what is the difference between the 2 channels - neetcode and neetcode.io?
anyone who has interviewed with NAVAN?
might be careful with that, no clue how your company will handle it
lol the same way they'd handle somebody using stack overflow whenever they run into a problem, dont think it matters
bet bet
apparently there's idiots who put actual proprietary code onto there, so companies ban it internally
I've got the same q. Even the about section of neetcodeio is empty
I went to the about section as well for clarity and couldn't find anything 😂
oh nooo i dont mean copy and pasting 😭😭
oh ik you wont
you going with Atlassian?
atlassian asf 🥶🤠
they froze hiring 😀
you gotta take that up with the Australian team i believe 🤔🤔
Molle wop
arent you joining jp morgan? i dont rem
Can you generate me a number
Min: 0 Max: 10
2024 grads when

we can only prayge

yea I'm just afraid of the possibility of a rescind
when you start?
October

please I need job

two interviews this week (octo and logicmanager). Hoping to god that something comes out of either

please gib job
please gib job
please gib job
please gib job
please gib job
please gib job
Hey guys. Has the market gotten any better. Mid May people said it would. Is it 😭
But like are people atleast getting call backs
Earlier barely anyone was getting anything

what a shit commencement tbh
the people who skipped are smarter than me tbh
so glad I'm home now
Only reason I'd do it is for parents
yeah same
I'm not going to my commencement lol
Gonna get to hear some boomers talk for an hour
I'm going only because the Venue are nice and I get free entry
im doing mine for family too
tbh I don’t want to see my advisor or program faculty at all
hopefully I can just sneak out without my family wanting to meet anyone and go party afterwards

Wait did u guys have internships
People arent getting callings even with prev internship experience?
I have whole ass 3 yoe and not getting calls
Masters

Man go to WITCH for a year geez lol

10000000% this guy is either completely lying or literally says racist/homophobic/ect things during interviews
people fell into offers the past two years
right but even international students werent having thaaat much trouble the past two years
Yeah but he’s not an international student anymore he left after graduating and the chances of getting a sponsor as a new grad especially in NA if you don’t live there is very low
His resume probably sucks ass as well, hard to believe he got literally zero interviews if it’s even just decent, especially in europe where visas are a lot easier to get
This’ll also do it. Bro isn’t even applying 💀
yeah
ya unfortunately the job market is really hard to navigate especially as an international
I dont get why internationals just don't apply for jobs in their home country if they can't get anything in the USA, and then try the USA after they get some experience like 3-5 years
he's trying to move country with (i assume) no experience, chances of landing anything are close to 0
The things I would do for a job reee
there's tons of people that get a CS degree and never get a job lol. They just go down a different career path
Pls gib job
CS is often just a generalist degree to some people
if he's from india like a lot of immigrants, there's tons of entry level swe jobs there they just don't pay much
i have a friend who has tried for a year, 2022 grad, and going back for his masters now
gosh...ya when you apply to the lower end places the people are so used to desperate people that the quality of the interviews go wayyy down
so far though I've usually met good people interviewing
that's insane, but once they leave the country difficult to come back
my friend was saying this, someone got a job after laidoff and than that company laid him off in a week
not too surprising with how bad the market was this year. Those 2022 new-grads are probably the first swe's to get let go
i mean one can start with an IT role then just switch
it’s not too far fetched and i see people who did it
My friend graduated in 2022 and got laid off from the forest this month
It's sadge
gotta do what you need to do to get the bills paid and benefits
im just job hopping internships until i can land a new grad job hopefully i get into one by january
same i just need to make some
running out of time to keep livin with my parents and gotta do some jobs
are they paying you really high?
jesus damn
that's fup
yeah this is a rough patch for us
Apply to defense
your workplace is toxic
we just gotta make it to the other side
im doing this rn but i hate defense i only want a job from them if no one else interviews me lol
I think the people who go furthest are people who always see their career as some sort of higher purpose
this is fucked lol
evil
like that aint even joking at that point
also gets better when you aren't working at borderline broke where getting laid off would set you really far back, like being a 20 yr old with no savings fresh out of uni
i could see myself being more picky in the future then i am rn i just want that
first
That's stressful
that's not startup anymore it's just toxic
bruh
what happens at big tech then if your job isnt coding
i think startup is good growth
I'm not even mad that I'm going somewhere with bad WLB and bad work culture
Is that easier then swe work?
isn't that chill lol
well ive been non stop working on CS since i was like 18 and earlier then that when i first started coding. I wouldn't mind getting into a new-grad job like that which would let me focus on other parts of my life but I also want to push for promo's fast and get a higher TC so that's a catch 22 probably will end up investing a lot in my work
how is it making actual money
you can make money even as an intern lol
lol theres a difference between making money for three months as an intern vs a full time job with benefits (and more than likely more money)
true 🥺
very nice
i like data engineering
basically can now talk about system design since i see the whole picture
ayy data gang rise up lets go my degree is data science
do you think you've learned a lot already?
can, but it’s not permanent. sure FT can get laid off but if not, then you get money + vacation time
Ya but his original question was just "how is it like making actual money" he didn't say FT employed
spark, aws cassandra and some internal stuff
we’re also changing the orchestration tool atm
for the pipeline
we have that already
What are the most in demand skills for entry level currently? Frontend, backend, mobile, cloud or cybersecurity?
I feel web is much more
Right, but i'm asking more for entry level jobs
I rarely or almost never see that for entry level.
And btw am I better off learning React or is it better that I learn Swift and Kotlin?
Yeah entry level DE is quite rare
UI you mean mobile ?
It could be "entry" level as in requiring 3 YoE
I fucking hate it when an entry-level job position is posted on LinkedIn or Indeed, and the prerequisite is a high-level security clearance that would require several years of experience to obtain it
like secret and polygraph is alright. I could apply and obtain one during my work shift. But how the hell am I going to get a Top Secret clearance without any prior clearance?
I remember getting a phone call from Aquilla Tech regarding a role I would've been killer at
the lady told me that the only thing that's holding me back is that the position requires TOP SECRET, which is something that can only be obtained by getting a SECRET clearance prior.
TS/SCI?
I think so
It just sucks to find a "new" job posting with a mid-level requirement
Wait so it's better to learn data engineering than web dev?
I feel web dev is the most in demand especially fullstack
Everywhere I see they required Js or React
So in other words, it's good to have knowledge in frontend but at the end of the day it's more viable to focus on backend and data engineering, with cloud related on top of it?
That's what I've been thinking all the time, but I'm only seeing front end dev for entry level jobs...so I was questioning myself a lot
Are there any data engineering certs?
Cause I don't have work experience in that regard
oh yeah we have kafka too but i haven’t gotten around to using it yet
i’m still pretty inexperienced
for entry level you’re meant to be flexible and open to learn different things
aka explore, bc at that point you haven’t had actual work exp
I like data engineering but feels like a very non noob thing
Nobody wants to hire me cause all I know is SQL and python and numpy shit
nah same, my side is more hands on rather than devops
can do py spark
Sure, but you need 5+ yoe in building a machine learning algorithm that uses cloud computing and also you need to have publish 5 apps in the app store with 50m daily users at least
setting up zookeeper with all the things in cluster is a task
I got rejected by a company so sadddd
sent an email to recruiter, told me they were still interviewing people
wtf
at least they said i should hear back by end of the week
how do u guys not burn out on the interview prep grind?
the interview grind is just endless and there's so much to study even making a good amount of progress daily just gets hard
i am a master of burn out, honestly what helped is taking a day or two off
taking weekends completely off helps a lot
tho i understand intl students dont have the liberty of doing that
but you are more efficient when you are rested
can't workout a muscle when you pull it really bad
by thinking of money
ig my issue is not taking a day off. Totally ended up having to skip most of today because I'd been going for 7 days on lc and trying to work on projects
aderall helps
a planned day off where you dont feel guilty about not doing shit is key
elaborate?
idk for me it just helps me conserve energy
a slower burn over a longer time i guess lol
Is there anyone diagnosed with ADHD?
🥲
It seems my therapist was right when she said half of the world is adhd 😛

looks like its showtime🍿
I’m applying to 20-30 per day and only hear back from 1 or 2 after 2 weeks. Wtf is this market
You hear back?
2035 hiring unfreeze gonna be wild
Not diagnosed but strong suspicion of ADHD and autism
you are hearing back?
can I dm you?
Guys. Is first job super important?
we should start a company
.
Pls start and give me visa, I promise to do unpaid overtime
What kind of projects are yall working on?
any idea how the job scene gonna be for 2024 cuz im graduating dec 2023
I'd say important but not super important, it does have impact on what kind of places you can job hop to next. Good prestige makes you a stronger candidate for your next role
How bad is the process of obtaining a secret clearance with dual citizenship?
bro how do we do this
probably terrible
have you looked at the form you have to fill out
it's like 60 pages long
and since you're foreign dual citizen I'm sure it's a pain in the ass because you have to list all foreign contacts
nobody knows this tbh
Do I have to list foreign contacts of my family here as well? That would be wayyyy toooo longgggggg
A lot of people get rejected for having relatives in countries that aren't us allies
the best place to ask those questions would probably be in r/securityclearance
I have a Buddy who was born in Crimea, got a Raytheon intern offer but got rejected for security clearance
they will probably give you a better idea about what goes and doesn't go
@past cave https://www.reddit.com/r/SecurityClearance/comments/m5hmd9/i_am_a_dual_citizen_italyusa_can_i_work_as_a_gs/ this is from two years ago
11 votes and 23 comments so far on Reddit
mb start there
This year is just sad mane
Gonna suck cuz we all be taking ur jobs
Oh fuck I hadn’t thought about how dual citizenship would affect clearance
Anyone heard back from 2k, it's been a month since I submitted the take home assessment 😰
What are good resources to learn about springboot ?
don't you have to renounce either your US or Japan citizenship anyway
japan doesn't let you do dual past a certain age
honesty idk how it works bc im also japan dual citizen
but ik you can delay the decision by telling them you're still deciding
it won't prevent you from getting a US security clearance either way
i'm trying to hold on to mine as long as possible in the case where shit hits the fan in the US
Having dual citizenship seems kinda cool
dm me your resume I'll check it
@pulsar mural when does AMEX 2024 new grad open up? I want to be prepared
Make something and learn along the way, use baeldung tutorials
Also, just read the official docs
hey guys does anyone know when grace hopper 2023 tickets will be live?
Ghc is a cheat code
why?
They probably mean that GHC is a great event which a lot of recruiters will attend
It's a gr8 way 2 get a job
ohhh ok ok
Hi RecRUDEr,
I was wondering if you could touch base with Interviewer 1 and Interviewer 2 and ask them if they had any feedback they could provide me in regards to our interview.
I understand I was not the correct fit for the position, but having some general idea of things I could have improved would be appreciated for my continued job search.
Thanks,
Big Pierre
is this too direct
Can Amazon rescind my offer without notifying me? I should start in less than 60 days and should have started the onboarding process. I sent an email and got a response saying I should have received an email giving me information about onboarding, but they didn’t say when they sent it.
follow up immediately
Lol they last minute af, but if you email asp they're usually pretty good with responding
Thanks. I responded saying I didn’t get an email. I’ll send another at about 8am pacific time
i don't think there has been any confirmed cases of japan revoking your citizenship if you also kept another citizenship, it's illegal but pretty much never enforced
there's a pretty useful facebook group called Japanese Dual Citizenship, they are pretty helpful about any questions
i have both passports, the only rule i really keep in mind is to make sure to always enter the US with your US passport. japan expects you to use your japanese passport to enter japanese immigration if you have it, but it isn't required by law. i usually go through japanese immigration using my japanese passport just because the immigration line is faster
does it not mess up, like entering Japanese and exiting with Japanese passport but entering other country with US passport ?
there's only record of exit and no record of entering other country
they use SQL joins for that
makes sense, but have to define the table with a bit more caution, can't give passport a primary key
outside of immigration, i just use whatever passport i used for the boarding pass
which is usually my US passport
don't see why it should be a problem if you just use the same passport to enter/exit the same country though.
but even in the case that you did happen to use different passports on entering/exiting, if the country in question isn't Japan it's probably not "illegal" in that country's eyes to have dual citizenship, so i assume it should be pretty easy to fix.
makes sense
💀
I think 2023 grad hiring season is done by now 🥲
2024 ng is gonna be a shitshow . amen
ik many peeps who delayed graduation/are waiting for ng 2024 . and i don't think companies would hire shit ton of ng's like before
I see tons of ppl still looking for a ng positions on linkedIn.
and I am done with my job hunt, no point getting stressed chasing higher TC atm
gotta enjoy warm spring breeze on the grass 🚢
its wild tbh
smh bootstrapped startups/small companies seem like a safe bet
companies that are advertising "we are hiring" might dwindle
morgan stanley gonna layoff some 5k people next month end
smh
and we already in the 5 month
my parents are from South Korea, they don’t give a jack shit about em
The market is fucked, and all we can do is praying for better
and prob good to live in family’s house until things get better after 6month or 1 year
a not-insignificant number of 2022 grads seem to not have anything yet either. ppl gonna be competing against 3 different grad years
its gonna be insane tbh
I have a ambiguous question. Will companies favor 2022 - 2023 grads or 2024 grads for 2024 ng roles?
Likely 2024
That is to say if 2022/2023 have been working on side projects and LC during that time
Lots of ng roles have a required graduation window
Lol so what gonna happen for 2022 grads? They're stuck forever?
They gotta find the roles that don’t lol
Should’ve gotten a job
If only I thought of that earlier 🫨
😔
Skill issue bro
nah it wasnt doomed till mid november
thats when the few big companies hiring really stopped
august->early november there were lots of offers going out
true
cap
they'll favor whoever has the best resume
at the end of the day thats what matters
none of the companies that gave out a lot of offers during fall of 2022 were hiring that late though. it was just various smaller/non tech/local companies at that point
c1, zon, bb, pltr ect were all done well before then
Take a look at job descriptions and you’ll often see “must have graduated between december 2022 and may 2023” or something to that effect
I’ve been rejected before for a September grad date when they have a may cutoff
Sad i have December grad date who knows when they will finally post jobs for us
you could just lie...
right but realistically NG 2024 will accept people that have. a grad date in 2023
What if they ask for transcript
doesnt really make sense for themselves to limit their pool of applicants to just half a year (i.e. just dec 2024- may 2024 grad)
almost never happens
Usually you are considered new grad up to 1 year
I know they never asked at my internships
I figure they would want your diploma before they hire for new grad tho
It’s one thing to say your graduating earlier, but to say your graduated when you don’t even have a degree is a hard lie to pass
Yeah
use Stable Diffusion to generate your degree -> win!

This happened to me as well. Instant rejected from alot of jobs due to my Late July grad date. Graduating too late for spring new grad and too early to do a summer internship.
Ended up getting lucky and found a company that was cool with letting me have an august start date
Did they do a background check afterwards?
I mean I haven’t started yet so not yet but for me I didn’t lie or anything so it didn’t matter
People in here were telling me to write May as my grad date tho
I considered it but opted not to
The company was really chill though, they told me I could pick any start date within 3 months of graduation
All 3 of my offers have either asked for proof of enrolment with graduation date or seen it on the background check
Okay, but you're talking about if you're applying to ng before graduating?
Ng and internships
Okay but that's normal
has anyone here been asked quiz questions
for an interview and know the best way to prep
If at all the new grad positions open in the month of June (like every year), will their start dates be much later or we will be able to start immediately? Cos a lot of us have graduated already and I remember that those positions say that they want students to graduate somewhere around December
I’ve been asked questions like:
- what’s the runtime of binary search
- what’s polymorphism
- explain a technical concept in layman’s terms
Honestly, I’ve just known these topics off the top of my head and gotten lucky, but consider researching topics like these and quizzing yourself.
🥲
Linkedin had layoffs wtf
💀
saw a linkedin employee impacted posting about his layoff on linkedin
Has anyone interviewed with Ramp yet?
Did CVS Start their Interviews for New Grad Roles?
i guess they did, i got reject in 2 hours after applying
atleast should have started
the irony
has anyone done a phone screen for the SoFi data platform role?
the recruiter who scheduled a call with me mightve blocked me on gmail 💀
Octo never gave me a call
Last week, they sent me an email asking me for my availability for an interview. Fast forward to today, and I never received the scheduled phone call interview
Though to be fair, when I sent them an email discussing my schedule, they never responded
got rejected 2 months ago as they filled all their spots
they opened new roles I think
Microsoft doing another (small) round of layoffs today. All affected have already been notified
Well yesterday and today
Microsoft posted some new roles tho
Link pls 🙏🏻
anyone starting ft for fidelity in NH?
😬
Hate it when someone offers to give advice and all they give is advice
These Databricks posts are triggering me
+1
are those even real
Anyone did premium processing for opt here?
I had a phone screen call for a different role
has anyone been doing any DE interviews
It's frustrating when a company recommends a position that has nothing to do with my skillset after sending me a rejection letter for an old position
imagine recommending a failed applicant to apply for a SENIOR LEVEL ROLE
like, be fr
God I wish HR managers were required to get some technical experience
it's probably automated
how did you not get deported yet
cause I need some shit job to not get yeeted
The email came from a work account with a first and last name.
I'm going to apply to this position and tell them that this person "referred" me to the role
Anyone starting at Fidelity this summer?
volunteer + i currently do a shitty it job
half a year into unemployment holy
@obsidian crater rope together?
I still have some time
will let you know when the rope time comes

Though not gonna lie I don't think I'm getting a job
My OPT start date is July 31
Probably not getting anything before then
are you getting interviews?
Not really
My last interview was two weeks ago
Which was my 2nd interview since March or something
thats me
I have major interview anxiety
I fucked up a technical interview once
Now I'm super worried lol
you still have ~3 months before your opt starts
find something before that lol, the longer you stay unemployed the worse it gets
I'm trying to get a job through my contacts
But they can't sponsor visas so it's a temp thing
better than being unemployed
unemployed = self worth takes a hit and every second you feel like roping
you're right about that
my friend is not working since December
waiting for his security clearance to come in
Says he wants to rope everyday
at least hes a citizen
What to do with a hiring freeze.
Idk bro
Any Amex guys here?

I’m a good market I can steamroll Fintech. I was told I code Java like a mid level guy. Do I gotta go further and code harder?
damn
I’m already out here getting to start a nonprofit after google invited me to a summit.
i want to be like u

I need to keep looking. I managed to last an entire year of interviewing without missing a single leetcode question.
yike
Then I began to work on my behaviorals since leetcode alone won’t cut it.
cracked af
Now I’m working on my portfolio.
leave some for the rest of us
469 solved.
you're insane
Apple, Bloom, Tesla, Amex, UKG, etc. none of those could trip me on the leetcode.
but no job!?
And I could go even further. Currently working on AWS cert and secret clearance. Whilst learning front end.
You have to grind
Yes. Their technical was nothing for me.
Nobody is naturally good at leetcode
So 1.5 problems a day?
Google themselves said I was one of their best 50 applicants out of a thousand+.
You do have 4 degrees
And I’m set to graduate suma cum laude as an eboard member of a tech club.
With 4x deans list on the CS degree.
I don’t know what it’s gonna take. I just keep pushing harder.
Yeah.
I plan to go to Utah for the big job fair in November.
I’m not going to leave anything on the table.
All I need is to sit down with enough people until one says yes.
what do you do to work on it?
damn 4 degrees wtf u did man
I practice with questions and prep projects to demo.
3 more.
It's all internships so I'll have to fight for that return offer real hard.
hm I think I should practice more with speaking
articulating my answers
all that shit
How do you guys search for job fairs?
how much more leetcode do i have to do
same feels like its never enuf
The thing dat helped me the most
Was realizing I don't have to answer immediately
After being asked a question I always take a minute or 2 to think out an answer
I'm sitting a 0 garunteed at 469.
Oh
Posting in 2023 grad processes is kind of misleading I thought they were like 2023 new grad positions
At least that's how I interpret that channel
petition to change the name of our profession
indeed as a bad as linkedin
has to be the most useless suggestion ever
ACE sounds better than SWE
yeah but it’s some bullshit configuring tool and dye machines
and also
im talking abt changing swe to like, Software Confabulator or some made up word so there’s 0 overlap
I got suggestions for retail jobs when searching for SWE roles in Canada
snow Mexico really do be like that sometimes
I agree man the number of engineer positions I get recommended 😭
oh damn stack overflow got rid of its job board?
I was just about to go there to see if it was better
Ever since Microsoft brought them it’s gotten terrible
yall got any advice for 2024 new grad apps with the state of recruiting rn?
Ramp nerfed me 😭
we can only
Wdym?
I mean rejected lol
Start early, network, attend recruiting events, be prepared for lc + basic sys design.
Oh damn, sorry to hear that 😞
😭
ya you not wrong tbh
So when u guys say next season u mean wait until fall 2023 to apply and start summer 2024?
def rope by then
- dec 2022 grad
That sucks, was that after the first technical round?
How was it? was it LC?
dannng didnt u solve all of em?

where is @ramp is trash
random API exercises
I solved everything but made mistakes during... i was nervous af
gg
yo how do you practice this shit
like was this in javascript or what
it's just the flag challenge tbh
just don't be an idiot like me and you'll pass
wait they make you do it again after the app?
Did you make it to hiring manager?
no, only first technical round 😦
Never met him
kk
what does interview feedback call means?
does it mean a polite and constructive rejection feedback?
Yes I think so. These are rare, the only times I’ve seen them happen is when you’ve done really well throughout the interview process and the recruiter is nice enough to call you about the rejection + feedback about it
probably an offer but some companies call to reject
I failed the interview badly
so I assume it's gonna be a reject
and they don't wanna discuss in email, wanted to call and discuss
Still it's nice of them giving feedback
shit's start falling
yea tbh i'd rather be rejected by email and given the option to call for feedback lol
i've been rejected by call twice and both times i was fully expecting an offer
mind telling the company names
sky and capital one
same I would rather get a rejection email and feedback later
yeah i think google does as well
I asked for the decision and they where like we would discuss that in the call
wouldn't it be awkward for them to reject on call
some of them probably get off on it tbh
well none of those companies are hiring right now
yeah makes sense
i figured they probably can afford to lowball rn too w less competition
TC, amazon is like 180kish
but noone is hiring for that much now
ng tc is rope worthy
160-180k in high cost of living areas too
idk, for dev maybe 70k-80k avg not big tech for salary
then watever bonus

i got to school in a MCOL/LCOL area and most of my classmates are getting offers around 75k-95k. thats super typical
all somewhat local non tech
thats usually normal here
like bigtech salaries do exist but like, its less than 5% of top graduates
im pretty sure
its less than 5%
yeah defo not anywhere near "typical"
has anyone reneged mcdonalds? do i get blacklisted?
I wish I could work at McDonalds
they put a non compete in my contract that says im not allowed to eat burgers anywhere else for 12 months after leaving
Was 2001 like that. Asking out of curiosity
im getting recruiters offering 65k tc for new-grad like it's good now
it is acceptable because i so need that income but damn i want 100k not 60 🤮
That's still good for a new grad, especially in this market
better than having no job at all
wish I graduated last year tho, could have gotten 200k with barely any qualifications 😭
ik i need a job so bad i barely have any income, just making 20/hr for the summer and then back to unemployed
cscd moment
Amazon gave that to 2022 grads with 30 min interviews
not fair
i remember last yr everyone was hyping amazon and i was just watching like soon i will be a new grad and i too can interview
my app still in purgatory
then the market went to shit before i got to new-grad rip
I know a guy who works at amazon rn but is looking for job elsewhere
3 offers is a good thing in this market
so mb a spot will open for u
ya
a lot of seniors and mid level devs are saying they are giving up on a job search this year
there's some hope for new-grad jobs from places that haven't post yet when new-grad 2024 opens up
like capital one
yeah i mean
there's a chance it eases up in 2024 but the rest of this year will prob still be rough
i wouldnt be surprised if its pretty similar
if the same companies that hired the most this year also hire a decent bit next year
how do u downlevel a new grad
c1 is the only
left for us 2024 grads
lol ong tho thats probably what its gonna be
they will probably get every 2024 grad applying on the market
some zon too im sure
my recruiter said bloomberg is done
but just with the size of zon id expect theyd still end up hiring the most
For 2024?
No, for him
as a 2030 graduate, i just got reached out for a bloomberg full time postion
any advice?
i only have 6.5 years to prepare... really scared
practice your firm handshake
Does the i9 verification happen on the first day?
i was referncing a guy who came in here last year and convinced everyone bloomberg was done hiring
i can't stand c++ jobs i can't be a c++ god when i never get any c++ jobs and everything is web dev. Ya i'd rather a leetcode focused interview then testing what specific tech stack i havent gotten around to focusing on yet
theyre language agnostic
Did they reach 2030 hc yet?
I did all mine in Python
same
i got rejected after phone but it was a dp med
seems somewhat reasonable i guess
no they have 500k hc open, theyre planning on hiring 10m new grads between 2028-2030 tho!!!
Gives me time to have a kid and make them practice LC for NG apps
Apparently meta is going to start hiring like Google
brb abt to apply to the ppls liberation army
time to liberate some asains
time to destory capitalism 😈

Is it worth reaching out to a recruiter about my candidacy for a position? Had recruiter call Monday, but now I see the company took down the job posting. I do have another job offer and kind of wanted to go thru the process before the deadline
give them a week
Bloomberg has 10m employees? Defuq
Ngl if I was offered 65k right now I’d take it. Where are you guys searching for jobs? I’ve been on LinkedIn and indeed but havnt had an interview yet :/
i wasnt offered i just said a recruiter reached out to me on linkedin and mentioned that as the salary
rn im still
hoping my intern company hires me back after the summer, they pay 90k base and some more in stock and bonus
im never going to get anything near that by job searching
Not this market chief
I Heard 2024 grad hiring is likely going to be very conservative, probably as big of a pool of companies as this year
i still am hoping some of the mid size defense companies hiring in random ass places like Wisconsin will potentially get me an offer as long as i get a security clearance
hey stay out of wisconsin
that’s my state
is skillstorm the same kind of company as revature?
i turned down revature cuz i heard of the randomness of where u get placed and some horror stories from it
new day no job
i start my job in 21 days
they sent me a survey to rate my programming skills to decide what to place me on
@fallen fox how my roperman doing?
it was like
"linux command line"
"javascript/typescript"
"react"
"Node.js"
"git/github"
i just put 4 out of 5 on everything
recruiter was like "we liked your profile but we have 10 more candidates to interview" smh 💀
that means “u suck lmao bye”

idk maybe like accessing files and using the commands to download programs and being able to navigate through terminal
ok ezpz
that means out of the 10 other candidates, there's something special about you

this is my final hope
tbh
Nah, don't have any final hopes, always keep applying
i am

never truss recruders
never truss interpooers
otherwise you will get a broken heart
just like high school dating
i read a reddit comment from the “interviewers” pov, and they basically said, “every interview I put my best face on and was 100% and optimistic with each candidate like yeah you’re gonna get the job”
so it’s all an act bro
all of us could be interviewers some day
in swe they literally make u do multiple interviews per month at most big-tech companies
u just assess the candidate on some leetcode problem and see how they do and then make a report to HR on whether they passed
that's why some are so bad also because they literally just pick random ppl and make them do it even if they don't like it
honestly i liked the two SWEs that did my last technical they were really chill
i think if u realize that interviewers are just normal SWE's trying to do their job it might help out in interviews
I will say I've had more bad interviewers than not
Like the ones that were good were REALLY good
ive only had 1 technical ever and the guy barely wanted to be there he was doing his job typing the whole time and barely saying much
But the ones that were bad, you could tell. And it was less that they weren't interviewing types of people, but more like they were determined to give off the vibe that YOU were wasting their time
exactlyy they were like plz leave u are wasting my day i could be getting productive work done
tbf i was because it was my first technical and i had no clue what to do but that's on the company lol
Yep. May make them good programmers, but not good engineers to work with lol
lol I had an interview where they were asking me obscure tech langs I didn't know and they legit went "wow, so you don't know ANYTHING?"
This was my first internship bruv, ofc I don't
no jobs over
intern pay like $20/hr but they want u to be an expert in 3 different tech stacks, mobile, web dev, backend, and probably some dev ops and your like 1 year into university
This actually was the case lmao
I wasn't desperate at the time bc I had another offer that was better, but still those experiences stick with you
Those types of folks think they're very high and mighty because they know tech but can't realize they don't know people
I'm confused by tesla job posts... do they ever specify "new grad"?
some of them don't have any YOE requirements
^. I wonder this too
bros i did one last hail mary
literally associate SWE
all skills = basic
no tech stacks at all
god please let me get this

inshallah
^considering new grads who have solid eng experience! come join the simplify team and work with us in sf!
what does solid eng experience entail
Thanks mane hopefully you save me from unemployment
I'm angry. Really angry. #techI started my swe career at GD thinking it was a good thing. "It's a fortune 100 company!" I told myself. No recruiters take me seriously. They refer to me as a "contractor" even though I'm a salaried employee. I've had mu...
if they had the same experience but the impact would be way different why can't they think of that?
maybe I'm wrong tho
People have big egos
lmao at one end he's getting a lot of traction and on other side just dry up
but interesting he got the offer in walmart but he's gonna loose out on col
not for me I guess lol
the role is for mid/senior. if you feel like you'd be able to catch up those levels, or are excited about working at a startup and have a history of shipping out cool stuff + learning quickly, apply!
Sounds cool. So, can we schedule an interview tmrw?
So does it mean actively hiring for mid/senior but willing to take a bet on new grads and hire them if you guys saw potential ?
Yup!
Has anyone heard of stellar development foundations
Some hr reached out
It seems like a decentralized blockchain platform
No
Hi, I'm new to this community, wanted to know when most of new grads positions open ? I actually monitor optiver, hrt and other trading companies for new grad roles, as I think 2024 new grads will open in August in these companies, am I right? And what about other companies such as Google, Meta ?
also those aren’t actual faang recruiters it looks, they seem like more of those hiring agencies tbh
Around December 2023
Definitely not December

From what I've been monitoring this year - first one in July, a few in August, more in September, peak in October, some in November then it leveled off to a few
My friends had a much harder time finding stuff in December/January/February, then positions re-opened recently and they got offers in April
That’s not faang, it’s one of the low tires - IBM
Prayge for the offers
Nah it’s just called stellar development foundation
Kinda weird
I guess I am gonna interview for some cpp and distributed system practice
Ah interesting, I've heard from people inside faang told me it will be around December
How did you monitor this?
so is that going to repeat for this year?
im
trying to get ready for august hope they got some good name companies hiring. I think my 🎯 is Capital One
right now , hopefully they hire some
one kiss is all it takes
to fall in love with me
oh wait
sorry i dont date people from Wisconsin
Usually it’s around august/september but there’s no way to know what’s gonna happen this year
No jobs
😭
bro I literally prayed to god last night before falling asleep and I'm an atheist
that's how fkd this is
i cursed god last night for not giving job
God has a plan for you, and that plan is to be broke
at least i can
this summer with an internship and earn some pennies to subsist a little longer
the reason prayers work is because you keep praying and praying and praying and ofc nothing happens, until finally something does happen and then you say "my prayers were Finally answered"
only 25 more days till im employed
where internship
no name place 😭
i did a really bad intern search last summer, i was like 19 first year in uni didn't know wtf a leetcode was and i was getting good response rate but then the engineer would ask the leetcode and it would all fall apart. this place didnt even do a technical just a behavioral meeting with the engineers lol
im learning leetcode hard though this time, hence the name. getting through Leetcode 150 and doing the leetcode daily so im going to be prepared for some good places
and ive at least got 2 internships on my resume by then so it's enough to work with
and if i can get the cloud dev certificate from AWS i will be 🔥 for new-grad
nice im mainly a front end dev with two internships in React and Angular now and some Node.js
hence why working with cloud , dev-ops, or full stack are the best options
there is a job that is for WisDoT that wants Angular and Spring Boot and it would be dream job for me tbh
govt

would be comfy job tbh was like 60-80k depending on experience + pension + 2.5 weeks to start, 130 sick hours PTO and what looks like a decent health plan + wfh
I curse Allah
Where you interning?
a place called shamrock trading in kansas city
react/node ya basically full stack
damn dope dope!
i want big tech
i need to make it to somewhere good soon like either 2024 or 2025
but 60k starting is totally liveable
i would take that if i end up with nothing just to get an apt and keep grinding
Misserah
i make 64k rn so I'd be lookin at that 80k range
there is a 82-100k range for like a "Specialist" tier but I don't think I have the exp for that
I feel like if I worked for a few years I could probably ask for that though
I feel you though, I'm not looking for big tech like FAANG, but I feel like I need to work in some sort of enterprise company just to get a feel for what that kind of work environment is
like some regional powerhouse that has a large IT dept with many teams
then mb in my 40's I can do sth like that govt job and chill out
i feel like ill be learning that with interning, ill get to see what it feels like to be at a tech place and working on a team
yeah for sure
I just really don't have it, I work at a super chill company rn and honestly it's pretty boring
not really
maybe in some cheap af area
i do have loans and cc debt though
is there anything on linkedin for new grads?
every job post is like "2-3+" years
I’m calculating for Kansas City. Avg higher end 1 bedroom costs $1300
If your earning 65k that’s 5k / month then 4k/month after tax and 1/3rd for rent is 1300 and you can afford bills and groceries with the rest
You'd probably save 500 a month
Ya it’s possible in a lcol place
Is it possible to buy a house making less than 100k a year?
Totally a lot of Americans do. You’ll be in the suburbs though and commute time might be bad if u have to work in the city
Ya but you would have a full 1 bedroom maybe even 1.5 with an office room and no room mates
You can buy a home in LCOL at 60k yeah
where I live in the midwest home prices are like $200K
Especially if you're married
Because homes are really meant to be bought by two people now
Ya dual income helps a lot
But only if the other person is earning income or else they’ll just drain your money even more lol
The real kicker is living in LCOL
