The difference they told me is that MLEs are gonna be building the actual ML models and whatnot but SWEs around the ML focus area are tasked with building everything that surrounds/pull from it

Saw an HM on LinkedIn post about openings at Apple for SWEs focused on ML. That sounded like me plus the location was Seattle so figured it'd be a good fit. I contacted him, he instantly asked for my resume and sent it over.

About a month later I got a call from a rec just asking about my experiences, expectations etc. I got put into the ICT3 pipeline but they always referred it as "mid level".

All my technicals were LC mediums and hards. All the hards were DP found on top tagged. All behaviors were simple, as long as you've read like a blog about their engineering culture

I just gave my onsite like 3 days ago... They were super quick for some reason. I guess thry need ML folk rn?

My sys design knowledge exclusively comes from system design primer + the building data intensive systems book. Plus that's one area where I'm really confident. It's a mix of bullshit buzzwords and actual knowledge without diving too crazy, so I excell in that really well lol

For LC, I didn't grind at all tbh.. too busy with work and life.

At Google our infra depends but it's been mostly cpp for me. Can't tell you specifics tho

Most hards from how I see it are just 2-3 mediums layered on top like a chained puzzle

You unlock the core first, show how it's needed and why it's not enough (aka your brute force)

#

Build an abstraction on top, to show that you can make it faster by utilizing a trick like memorization or some algorithm (aka optimization)

#

Then you employ the last layer which is again another nifty trick like a math equation or something to make it more optimized and pass edge cases

#

All the way up to L5 they'll ask technicals homie

#

Aka senior

#

Staff+ it'll be different I think but I'm not there yet so I'll worry about it later

#

At mid level, you're expected to know high level sys design for sure

#

And at senior you can simplify complex systems and break things down, showcase more brevity and breadth
