Yeaaa fuck them
I'd move to Bentonville
For a Senior offer
Which is what my current Walmart process is

future southern hick
the entire work culture there is like that , this is coming from a former intern who worked there . i have seen it all .
Good luck! You can easily ace their process, Comcast Jr level = Walmart Sr level

SWE 3 is just entry level SDE with a MS
SWE 2 is entry level with BS
what color is your future cowboy hat
Blue

oh

Cheddy confused now

refer us all , and then retire early
My guy the bonus is only like 1k

9026 x 1k
ez

They don't have new grad up, not sure if Comcast even does new grad roles
sure ๐

lol this gif

Are there people still interviewing with IXL? Or waiting to hear back from them?
Is there space for another referral ๐ณ๐ณ
I get shitting on Walmart and its processes (they're dumb as fk), but you can't blame a company that wants to have its largest office where it was founded. If you've ever been to Bentonville, the city is literally built around Walmart.
Also, Bentonville isn't that bad - it's very much a Midwest-town vibe, which I feel is not something people in this channel like
i have been a former intern there(summer 2022)
only thing i saw a lot was churches
there
like at every 1-1.5 mile there was a church
Sounds like Montreal ngl
At least u got ur exp
^I don't know. In this economy, I'd just go somewhere for 1-2 years for the experience and then peace out to a bigger company/better area.

Did you get a return offer from Walmart?
i was just saying , yeah in this trash market even i would move to anywhere
no mate , they had layoffs in my org in july . and my manager was ass like he had the attitude of someone who didn't really want interns in the first place . i had worked my ass off , literally built them a tool which they are currently fucking using in my org .

it hurts till today
sounds like a ah....company town
Well Iโm sure u can find something better ๐ค
and you cant twist a company town into a good thing
Same thing happened with me (even after interning there for 7 months)
The economy canโt stay bad forever
i am international , shits looking too bleak
7 months! , and then they bail out wtf
i have limited time in this country.
How much time
max i can stay is till october 2023.(this is if i don't get anything at all 150 days post my graduation date.)
i am having like the worst time of my life rn
Can you extend your program or does your school help you with RA for time being?
Yeah itโs rough rn donโt beat urself over it
no way i can extend ๐ฆ . the worst i could do is an internship for a year OR RA under some prof but i don't have a research background sadly
FK COVID , its the root cause of all this bs
Maybe u can apply for an internship worst case
yeah ig but do companies take graduated peeps as interns?
Tbh idk, someone has to try to really know if they would accommodate that
yeah sometimes they do. I know H-E-B in texas does. they're a grocery chain. they accept recent grads as interns, bc they really believe in scoping you out before giving you an offer.

so you could try to look for internships, but im sure its competitive bc companies would rather save money by hiring a traditional intern on a traditional timeline.
Hickie3445

hush lil hickie dont say a word, papa's gonna buy you a mocking bird
stop bullying me @late kestrel
and if that mocking bird don't sing, papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring
damn
looks like everyones getting lowballed
theyre really using the economy to their advantage rn
crazy how much money they're going to save/make off this
anyone still waiting to hear back from Ramp after applying on 2/9
its always been about taking advantage
yeah but theyve taken it to another level here
lmfao
oh yeah the "fuck you" is in plain view now
yeah im negotiating my offer this week, hopefully it goes well
im going to ask them for a straight roadmap to the next position and how far along im out on it and ask for 15% raise to meet bay averages lol
lets see what happens
goodluck

i think i got some leverage since ive been working at the company for a year now as intern/part time so might as well try it here
i think pulling the offer for asking is very slim
lmk if anyones negotiating also ๐
how do the recruiters scam go? Had an recruiter reached out from a company harvey norman saying 45$ an hour and remote
seems very scamy
Donโt send any personal info unless you know itโs legit
Sounds scam af. Had my resume on linkedin posted by someone to ask their network if any full time postions are there and today this guy messaged
I asked him for a link to the posting
he has gone silent
Yeah donโt give anything till you have a job posting and you verify itโs legit
Yea. 99.9999% sure its a scam. He said I'm Mr. Kelvin Brooks

Reddit down
I thought it was my school Wi-Fi blocking Reddit ๐
i can still load new threads but no comments load
good thing its still during the workday

Works fine for me

Anyone has any experience with Teksystems?
@pulsar mural hero ur playing fits your toxic personality goofy ahh
@pulsar mural ew dota
in consulting firms like bcg , ey etc non client facing roles comprise of swe's , data scientists etc?
Which few company are hiring new grads right now or even just hiring well?
๐ oh god , mckinsey gonna shit too
i would suggest make a linkedin post , you would get reach
mckinsey gonna layoff 2k
WTF
where did you read this?
things are fucked
Really considering doing this. Does it usually help?
im tempted
mind you i dont post anything on linkedin and i despise the platform lol
Same man, Iโve never posted once on LinkedIn
WITCH is doing freeze
?
some companies thrive during recessions!! i've gotten some traction with healthcare companies
banks do well too
Discover is hiring a ton and they sponsor international students
revature is a scammy consultancy
/r/cscareerquestionsCAD had a mental breakdown these past few days
I rememner seeing that post though

Yes toronto area

Infosys USA is not on a hiring freeze
janitors are making 70k in the bay, how are engineers nowadays getting paid 70k
are you applying to us too @cedar nebula ?
christ
probably
and it was crazy
my dream out of college was 50K
I had low expectations for myself
depends
a couple NG offers over 200K
but most people are in the 140-200 range I think
wish we had 200K offers in 2020
I was not ready for those
had never touched LeetCode
or done any prep
christ im just hoping for a single ng offer for like fuckin 80k in a hcol area
times are bad
leetcode was a post-grad thing for me
maybe
most people at my college work at sub-100K midwest places @jagged ravine
very few leave the midwest
I mean I did not really talk to the sweay Asian/Indian cs peeps
,
those guys did all the LC

and now I am 2yrs behind on LC lmao
slowly learning, probably understand it by 2024
yeah
but now I have less time for that

yeah so maybe 2024/25

wdym
Leetcode is very new to me
I am a slow learning
yeah
but still
it takes a while for my brain to remember stuff
etc
I know from exp
buddy
@livid yew need a referral?
Referrals can help more now since you're not entry level
@grizzled bronze is a friend
Especially from random people on Blind
here is the daily
Yeah I can get him a referral to Yahkunazon, they can't match his pay though
@grizzled bronze did u do the daily?
I don't touch that shit
well hr in yahkunazon said we r having a hiring freeze due too many interns being hired
:/
couple things
- I am very casually looking
- I crack under pressure
interviews raise my HR, make me super nervous
like
Just don't be nervous
easier said that done buddy
yea well not all of us are cs tryhards
never really touched lc until some months ago
though in retrospect i probably should have tried so much harder last year
stop omg
but why not negotiate
might as well try
true
yeah i dont see why people always take first salary...i see it as if i were to hire someone to like landscape my grass, i would give me lowest budget first
if they accept its perfect for me
the thing is tho if u know its below market average, they do too
ur first offer is always the shittiest one they can offer
think about it why would u offer ur best or even mid offer to some npc
most people here are new grads so lots of offers are standardized
it doesnt even have to be about pay, why not negotiate the next role
like say i want to get to sde2 as soon as possible, give me a roadmap
idk theres so many things u can negotiate in an offer lol
My first offer in 2022 was 95K, negotiated up to 110K
i think it works best when theyre looking for a lot of people and its a big sized company with not a lot of attention
thats what alot of people think so they dont even try
thats ur mistake lol
but they wont budge at all if u dont have anything
i never said don't try?
"just don't expect much w/o leverage" why is it so negative
I mean you could lie about other offers lol
thats my experience
exactly @livid yew lmao
even if ur offer is above market average
who gives a shit
just emphasize that they are ur first pick and ur good to go
i mean technically as a collective we all are
That's a 2024 problem
but u can get that 10-15k raise
Probably around 140k is average
like everyone or this server
dude what
everyone probably 70-80
140k
Depending on location
140k is the national average for all swes regardless of level
gov puts that data out
yeah ik but some people act like 140k isnt possible anywhere for new grads haha
yep
people well generalize SWE and only look at bay/seattle/nyc data
cause APPERANTLY NO OTHER LOCATION exists
to an outsider from a different country
I mean
but how many of you are int?

pog but why
LMFAO
that is sus
dope
as a person born and raised in these United States, its tough to see the outside perspective
๐
I should update my resume/li
with current job

there was one where a UCI guy said he wanted to work at jane street and everyone flamed him
have u been applying without it
haters
i go to UCI
nothing, let me try to find the tiktok though
no wonder I keep getting rejected
comment section ๐
im going to own jane street
i hate this industry ๐
Ong
Once ure in it. U get paid well and chill work
i cant find the tiktok but its out there
or deleted bcz of bullying maybe
BRUH KIRB 350 GonE NOOOOOO
Thats just people tbh
true true
@rain patio lets go become strippers
i had a whole ass list of reasons
we would dominate
one sec
ok i guess i dont have it
damn
had a whole ass list of shit in this industry that annoyed me
tf does this mean

Fuck im hungry af
Cracking under pressure is tough man, I feel.
My biggest problem is that for some reason I sometimes have a weird quirk that makes the interviewer dislike me and I can't always figure out why that happened when it happens.
Though there are interviewers who are very respectful and enjoy the interview with me.
I wonder if I should put "II" instead of "2"
what sounds better?
I was thinking the same
thanks
lmfao
Nah it happens at my college too tbh, you mention that you're into prestige and TC chasing as a career goal to your friends and they start looking at you funny.
eye eye captain
Software Engineer the Second
For me, I prefer to openly tell my friends about the grindset. I don't want to gatekeep the grindset from others, I don't want the kind of situation where there's a "successful" friend who doesn't relay any information back to their friends.
Yeah exactly
But I think it sucks because there are people who want to be part of the grindset
but nobody will tell them about it
or help them figure out where to start
i think its good knowing how to read a room
because dragging people down this kind of rabbit hole is considered toxic
I dont tell my non-cs friends cause it would feel like flexing
Oh yeah I never mention career grindset to my leftist friends, cs+game dev friends, non-cs friends, anyone with a smidge of feeling like "i dont want to be a salarycuck", they definitely don't really care about chasing big TC

dis tbh
thanks batcox
send connection reqq @rain patio
But tbh I try to pay it forward to my friends who I know want to be part of the grindset, because I wouldn't have gotten started and gotten to where I am without someone else telling me about it
where r u headed?
Hive
yo nice
@livid yew we run the b12
I remember thinking that $180k TC as a new grad? IMPOSSIBRU
tbh i dont count paper stock as part of my TC
so i technically havent gotten to 180k yet, but I for sure exceeded my dreams of 140k as a kid
i think you can count it if its liquid
mine doesn't count, it's pre-IPO and it's actually an indefinite stock option that expires if you leave
wait what I thought usually they expire within 5-10 years
immediately after you leave? L
oh
I see

fuck you
how is that dox
whatever nerd
@livid yew
I accepted
@late kestrel
idk how long exactly but i heard 60 days to exercise after leaving
I think you can exercise and buy the stock whenever as long as the option doesnt expire
not sure
I havent pressed too hard on this
I think you are correct
Stripe gives RSUs iirc
But plenty of other large startups give options
The place I got an offer at also does options
Yea i think ur right ive just seen ppl talk about their stripe options expiring cuz they still havent ipo
can RSUs expire?
isnโt this bad cause u pay taxes
and itโs not liquid
a lot of pre-IPO companies do options because you dont pay the taxes until you exercise
if you straight up get RSUs i think you get taxed based on estimated value
afaik you only pay taxes once u sell
just
that it goes up
^
tbh i should prob read up more on dis shit
Where u off to this summer soulkks
new grad
Check out this post! "New Grad Market is BRUTAL (Tech Industry)"
https://us.teamblind.com/s/UohMoGbG
Interned at 3 Big N companies and one startup (4 total internships). Good projects/good school. Applied to 300+ jobs and nothing. Even the 60k jobs ghosting my ass. Such a shit time to graduate. Friends going through the same things. Not international...
Bruhhh is Barclays retarded for setting up like 200 personality based questions
Fuck offf
today was so quiet aaaa
ye lol those are so annoying
Yeah not many listings today
yeah amybe tomorrow due to the 3day weekend
possible
i want this grind to end ffs , i am so mentally drained that i don't feel anything . not even hunger
๐ญ
Never give up
Maybe enough people will give up at that stage so you have a higher chance of interview + offer
Anyone heard back after technical OA from barclays
yo i just opened piazza for the first time this semester ๐ญ ๐ญ ๐ญ ๐ญ
Bruh my piazza was never that wild lmao
this one is bonkers. prof just ripping everyone to shreds lmfao
Bruh thats the prof?
yeah dude's like 60 and wrote touch grass ๐ญ ๐ญ ๐ญ
Absolute savage I love it
How tf does he know
Thatโs zoomer talk
My guy prof deadass violated his ass ๐ญ๐
could also be a TA
usually, for mine they were at least
damn and here i was thinking my prof trying to speedrun losing his job
theres no name attached?
getting fired as a prof has to be one of the hardest things to do, unless hes adjunct or smth
idt saying "touch grass" is grounds for that
Post on reddit
U will be on front page
That cat looks very hireable

Is it really that bad or are people just saying it is? Hard to tell but now I'm wondering if I'm dumb for declining the only two offers I got so far but both were really bad
yes it is that bad
what were the offers u were given?
they better be super bad or u might've just fumbled a bag
One was an internship for one year for I think like 58k a year (but I would've had to move to another city so it seemed like negative money, they said I could hybrid but needed to come in 2 days a week and it would be hella far drive) but decent company. The other was full time drivable just a lil far but only 52k which seemed horrible and the environment seemed like a lot of not smart people (small business hiring a lot of low budget people)
yeah 50k is hard cuz its not a lot especially if u have to relocate
I'm still interviewing with 2 ish companies rn
But one is really slow and the other is also small business/startup but closer to me and seems interesting
yeah i just know a lot of people struggling to find a job atm
Yeah
I should say I'm not in CS directly I'm Electrical Engineering grad but I have software experience and applying to everything tho my main interest is hardware /embedded
oh dang...yeah if u apply to electrical engineer specific jobs u might not be affected too badly by the tech layoffs
but if u apply for SWE positions, i think it'll be low chance
So I guess worse case I can try for power engineering job bc that is always high demand but my expirence might not line up so I'd probably have to move. But I saw it pays really well but just seems really boring. So I'd rather do like RF/ PCB/hardware related or swe
I would say like only 30% of the positions I applied to were software purely but at first I was only hearing back from them because I have internship in software only sadly :/
I'm guessing tech layoffs is all of tech but mostly software?
ye i think the comp sci new grads are getting hit the hardest
I got an offer from an IT outsourcing company lol, hope it wont ruin me
antra inc?
i feel like the only companies that are hiring right now are IT outsourcing/consulting companies
Im not in USA
I am really worried
I am not sure if the situation is getting better in 2024
Even McK is doing layoff, and as a managament consulting firm, they know a lot about internal data, the future plan of companies around
Will it be a red flag if I apply to like 10-20 SWE roles in one company
Theyโre all so similar
Had a palantir recruiter reach out but then cancel due to HC. They still open?
Not pltr
this year is kinda fked maybe 2024 mid-end looks good
mck doing layoff is something big. this will have a ripple effect too in some smaller companies that they have invested in mb
non client facing specifically , this comprises of swe's imo
ik a person who is on pip at McKinsey. idk if i should call it pip or not . basically they want him out of there.
Yall are going off the deep end
The economic outlook of na aint dependent on one consulting firm laying off people
This is a time to cut costs without any media attention or scrutiny from investors as to why, perfect time to lay off anyone
anyone interviewed with lockheed martin before?
Performance improvement plan
Basically, the company is giving you a chance to improve before you get terminated on the surface. But theyโre really just accumulating documentation as reasoning to terminate you.
@pulsar mural
They were pretty ambiguous on what position I would be interviewing for, but I figured it would be for their associate software engineering role
the more I read the more I go like
hmm this isn't necessarily a recession
more like a golden opportunity for tech to cut costs
Oh hey someones understanding how capitalism works
God forbid you look up with companies did in 08
Companies will take any opportunity to cut costs ya know
Arandomdude u got a job yet?
No lol
Rip same
ive realized its easy to get blinded by the just world fallacy when things work out for you
harsh reality do be that every day in some way youre at risk of losing it all
@teal jackal stfu
I like to believe in the just world fallacy tho
I HOPE THE IRS AUDITS YOUR ASS
Anyone interviewed for flexport SDE II role.
I have mine on site interview on 1st week of march
I've always said that swes are pretty high up on the worker food chain but at the end of the day, still workers and companies will fuck you over like other workers
yup
We just get paid a lot as swes so we feel immune to corporate bs most of the time
now is the golden time to put SWEs in their place too
this is why i cringe when people say "SWEs are overpaid"
especially other SWEs saying that SWEs are overpaid
SWEs are paid their fair share for the level of work and what they produce
Does Veeva zoom call to reject? I got another mail to book a call with the talent manager that I met last week for a behavioral round.
I got a phone call to reject
spontaneous phone call
since I had an immediate offer deadline that day
Even my friend got the random phone call to reject.
Ah, so spontaneous call = reject
scheduled call = ?????
possible offer?
anyways good luck
He thought it was a scam call so he didnโt pick up but the next moment he got a mail and yep it was the recruiter trying to call him
Itโs weird because they only reached out to one of my two references (second reference was suddenly unavailable and I gave an alternate reference).
@pulsar mural did you know when u get income taxed, the feds give it back to lockheed martin

Yeah so that means every company is equally likely to layoff even outside tech
cap, if you look at the recent jobs report, the amount of jobs in the US has actually grown outside of tech
its literally tech eating the shitter
people are still spending despite the increased interest rates
I don't think a general recession this year is impossible
Iโm just saying McKinsey laying off is a sign a lot of companies might decide to just layoff for shits n gigs
the job growth numbers look good as numbers, but if you actually look at the type of jobs
yeah, the inflation rate hasnt even gotten close to the 2% that the fed is looking to aim at
so killings will continue until morale improves
but i do agree with you that rn its just us suffering
Anybody know where I can find an example of a system design for an internet company?
unemployment rate is stil very low too; still anlong way from a boom cycle again
Because I have a system design interview, and I want to model out cases where it might be a similar use case
check pinned in #system_design
Does indeed have good postings?
i think it may be harder for u because u need sponsorship

even without sponsorship its hard xD
I've been only able to land interviews with local company's
i just found out i passed smoothstack's coding OA but then did a google search and found out they are a company like antra
i did barclay's oa last night
idk was probably the hardest oa i ever did
or maybe im dumb
ah ima apply to barclay
it might end up okay tho my friend did smooth stack and he works remote for Accenture
do they have a NG position?
yeah idk how i feel about these IT consulting companies
rather just work for the source
accenture is okay
if i had no college experience i would be more open to it
pays nice as well
same. i'll consider them if i don't find anything in 4 months LOL
me
cuz i heard they take a big chunk out of ur paycheck to train you
i think it's like 10k a year for 2 years from his accenture contract? he landed it a year ago tho so i don't know the details of the program today
@fallen fox did u just apply to the normal software developer role?
or was it a new grad position?
10k a month?
@vagrant escarp
it was a junior level role i think
once a year iirc. not too sure how they decide to collect it
can u link me <3
i applied like two months ago; I can't find the link anymore
bro barclays site is so asss
they need better developers
the process to submitting an application is so shit
like its so slow....
you get an auto oa with an iq test ๐
ill pass
along with a personality + culture fit test
i have a 250 IQ
then a coding test ๐
No u donโt
annoying as fuck
yes i do
yea ur annoying as fuck Dan
yeah nvm fk barclay
hop off my DICK Dan
the site is too slow
@vagrant escarp
ddint realize i was on it, felt nothing
no one likes u idiot
nope not as hard as someone who requires sponsorship.
Praying for you my brother
Was this for new grad developer or Technology role ?
developer analyst full time
Depends on hiw many fishes u catch
does anyone know what the general role would be for this position?
https://jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/200445963/swift-platform-experience-screening-engineer
i've never heard of a screening engineer and it doesnt look like they do any software development
Guys has anyone heard back from Barclays after doing their auto OA coding???
The Description section is very detailed in what this role is about
Looks to be more of a QA type role
Requires going outside though, dealbreaker
touch grass
big oof fr fr
Got em
anyone interview january or know their process
Where
hi
are u guys getting alot of interviews back atm
A few
Nothing
I donโt even know which companies are hiring man itโs so fked up man
damn
do you think data scientist can be considered as software development related experience?
Iโve been pushing myself so hard lately. I never networked so hard in my life. 4 career fairs and company meetings almost everyday in between job fairs. My search radius expanded so far, I somehow managed to get an interview via zoom in Europe. Despite all of that, Iโm still grinding the LC and polishing up the resume again.
Iโm very tired. Iโm writing cover letters again and working on a separate resume tailored for my other major.
Next Iโm going to travel across the U.S. at various fairs to meet them in person. Iโll need to book my trip to Kansas City.
I might need to buy another suit.
How are you finding career fairs?
Iโm very relentless. I refresh my universityโs job portal everyday. I search up any organization that I can think of. I try to figure out as many ways as I possibly can to meet these recruiters. The name of the game is to meet as many recruiters as humanly possible. I know of a number of fairs around the country and at least 3 virtual fairs this year. I plan to see them all.
November is a big one for me. I play my cards right in good headwinds, and itโs 100 interviews lined up.
U have 100 interviews lined up?
Got any offer?
No. Thatโd be later this November hopefully.
0
What?
Sorry, just making sure you aren't getting scammed or anything, but having 100 interviews lined up 8/9 months from now, sounds really bizarre to me
Who's making these wild claims to you
Like, what companies are saying "hey in 8 months we totally got you for an interview"
20 interviews on a good day and maybe 2+ FANG internships.
for me, careers fair led to nothing this year. Companies just provide the link to apply for jobs. Never heard back
^
Greylock was useless for me this year
It honestly was a waste of time
Got 12 shirts though, felt like shopping for spring lol

Itโs a job fair with a lot of companies showing up.
Itโs a job fair for NSBE
Are you guys telling me that itโs not worth it?
I'm gonna keep track and see if those 2 November conferences can get me a crazy amount. Hopefully, I don't have to wait until then to go.
2x internships not fangs. 2x bachelors however and previous full time work in a past life.
It could be better, but 2 years is a tough grind for CS start to finish.
I've had friends go to grace hopper and maybe get 4-8 interviews max
And grace hopper is OP as fuck
100 interviews?? You won't get an interview at every company there
At the fair
Oh no. The fairs have become that stingy?
No it's just..unrealistic to expect such a high number lol
I was predicting 600 companies.
I wonโt even match the expectations from 2021?
If you can get 100 interviews by going to this career fair I will kiss the ground you walk on
Just try to ground your expectations
I have to go and try. I know recruiters will be there.
Yeah of course
But I'm saying you have a really unrealistic expectation
Like you're flying, getting a suit, finding accommodations, etc.
Don't want you to be like, that disappointed if you got like a dozen interviews maybe
But honestly keep me updated id love to know how it went for you
US. I apply outside the county for fun sometimes. Some how they called back for once.
Alright. Iโll share my endeavors.
Yeah I was gonna say like
I've done 4 internships and 3 were big N
From August - December I had maybe 11 interviews max
career fairs are bullshit, companies never respond back or follow up
To ask for 100 you have to be like a 5x quant swe intern published papers
I'm curious what higher than faang is, like quants?
the only 2 that did respond back so far were govt/defense contractors
which is just fucking weird
It really is a numbers game. Iโve seen people with minimal experience make it look easy.
Bro works at rentech
I need to keep working on my project.
Nah tbh idk
One of my friends swindled an apple interview by dming someone on like twitter
Lol
No it was bad
Like really bad
This recruting cycle was awful
Yeah. Apply the same day or itโs game over.
My resume is much stronger than last yearโs and I got way less now.
its a preparation game, apply at the right time with the right experience and a lil luck
Iโm not even aiming for anything close to fang.
I applied to the 45K job in Florida.
bruh id make that job my new religion
Move to US, get fired, 60 days to find a job (not a US citizen) etc
all the pre-dpo seniors at blox are

most of hopped post dpo tho
or around that corner
some of them have to
hopium is the only hope

Guys, is it bad to start on 7/3 considering it's a day before the holiday?
Why not get the next day paid
real?
i never get any response from the non tech companies tbh
wouldnt be surprised if this is true to some degree
yeah its probably true somewhat. recruiters at non tech want you to fit their job description perfectly
I would also say that a lot of companies outside of the top 50 CS ones care more about interpersonal skills than just CS project and tech skills alone.
I did
Thatโs for sure. When I did my interview for intel. My mentor did not ask any LC. We just talked about my research and how it relates to the work being done on the team.
people who graduated in December 2022, what are you guys doing to find roles?
U get the job?
No - I gave up when they needed a 3 hour block for the final round
^Fair. I was already not a fan after the OA took a decent amount of time with random IQ tests
Didn't feel like a 3 hour long interview was worth it for a company I probably wouldn't go to.
epic systems is one of the better offers right now if you factor in COL imo
Also, my friend at U-Wisc had some "horror stories" about Epic
Their pay looks decent and itโs in Wisconsin with low cost of living
health tech is such a bad industry
Oh definitely agreed. Their TC is amazing for where they're located.
Eh I wouldn't say that.
How come?
IF you can work at Genentech or Pfizer or something in SF
You'll be making good money
sorry i mean like medical software
when I was talking to Epic the engineer I talked to said he stayed there for 5+ years off of grad because the WLB was amazing or something
the only problem is things move extremely slow and it's massive refactoring of outdated systems basically
Wait why is medical software a bad industry?
And what horror stories?
Iโm in the process rn so Iโm curious lol
From everything I've heard, the turnover is pretty high at Epic and most people leave after 2 years with experience. It's not as bad for engineers, but I hear PMs and release leads can work up to 70-80 hours per week.
I mean that's more on health itself than health tech
US Healthcare is dogshit
Also a lot of medical software is stuck in legacy code because you don't want to accidentally kill someone
So unless you get a new project, you're stuck in the gov't/defense contractor problem where you're studying code that won't translate to other cs jobs
yeah its all bad
Bad in what way? Like low pay?
Cuz their salary on Glassdoor doesnโt look too bad
its not all unlike tech at banks; slow, outdated, usually lower pay, minimal growth opportunities
Itโs slightly below fanng in base but still higher than most jobs atm
epic is for sure one of the better ones, downsides are full in office and their campus is in the middle of no where
I think I saw like 120k
nice campus tho it looks rly cool
Yeah I visited their campus a while back and it had google vibes
their campus lowkey is atrocious
How come?
too bad its like 30m outside of madison
They use a high base pay to get people to come to the middle-of-nowhere Wisconsin
Where the only thing to do after work is hang out with U-Wisc students at college bars
Do they have stock?
I mean in terms of US Healthcare
It's very meh
Honestly with this market I can't be super picky rn lol, getting rejected from places where I have the valid experience on the requirements. It's just that competitive now
some people have been getting 150k-170k range fy comp
I think Epic is privately held
Yeah I mean if I get an offer from epic Iโll most likely take it
In a better climate I can afford to be pickier but their salary is already above average
Donโt really care if I have to move to the middle of nowhere
Has anyone ever got an email with a hackerrank test for a job but nothing else? Like no info on the date and the email doesn't have a deadline
It just says the duration
Yes, some companies just email out a HackerRank. It might have an email in the "reply-to" that you can reach out to ask about deadline if you don't see any in the HackerRank.
Epic systems is kinda goofy
some might like this campus environment but I think it's hella uncomfortable looking
I need modernist and airy with big windows
not whatever this is
Epic systems beats nothing for sure
Some shit from shrek
ngl making that much money in Wisconsin is pretty clutch
you live a bit of a boring 2-3 years, get promoted and save 75% of your TC and jump ship afterwards
I just went outside for the first and I donโt like it. Back to the grind
I did hear though that Epic systems is modernizing their tech stack
which is really good news
definitely a win if youโre newgrad too you can just party with college kids since yโall are still around the same age
Can I say that I'm the biggest idiot of the day (if not the semester)?
I didn't know Handshake had a messaging function and found out that there were a ton of recruiters reaching out, I just never saw them ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ
if youโre desperate for some social interaction beyond the office ^
True @rigid quail
I spent 2 years in Wisconsin
It's not that bad
You international peeps and costal peeps are in such a bubble
Lol I've spent 3 years in Cleveland and a year in KC
Wisconsin is bad - unless all you like is cheese and the Packers
Especially when the cold weather comes in
As a Illinois native I'm used to all of that
Yeah I actually really like the Midwest, but you can't argue there's many cities in the Midwest better than Wisconsin (Denver, Chicago, even Kansas City)
Colorado is Midwest??
Iโd have considered Colorado like in between midwest and west coast tbh
I guess itโs pnw
Shit, I'm sorry you had to suffer through that
Iโve never heard of mid Atlantic tho lmao
Always thought that was northeast

Get outta Philly lol
