But in June 2022, a Twitter recruiter scheduled a call to let me know this unfortunate news as soon as they knew about it, which I do appreciate. Twitter rescinded my acceptance as a Software Engineer 1 because it was “not critical enough for business priorities” months after I initially signed the offer letter.

Even before I got the call, I was nervous due to the reports of the Twitter acquisition and my anxiety eventually became my reality.

I totally understand that business priorities change and that difficult decisions need to be made. It just really hurt to be let go before starting my first ever job so long after I signed.

I'll be honest mate. I wouldn't bet on it if you are an international. I have had 2 completed processes and one incomplete process ended up in no offer for these reasons. The first 2 are speculation, but the last one was confirmed by the recruiter. In her own words, "We cannot move to VO before team matching and no manager wants to match before you have your official EAD start date"

So... There's no point speculating really. Apply, try hard, expect rejection and be happy if it works out

Oh yeah that for sure, if you're international I would rather be safe than sorry with a lower TC role then jumping a few months later

This is SSWE so your mileage may vary. I had 1 phone screen (live coding) -> VO (1 algo/coding rounds, 1 OOD, HM and then HR). HM and HR begin in 15 mins. 😅
