is it the normal change?
yep
no worry
until I got the waitlist letter my portal had the Location listing Seattle, Washington
it only changed to Under Review after that š¤·
no worry, just wait
i m the forgotten one
fk it
Is goldman still hiring NGļ¼
their app seems to be still up
Pinterest is past 6 months
I think default is past 6 months, with some companies being more restrictive than others
they asked a question like this for google apm internship, Iāve been traumatized since lmaoo what book is this?
anyone has a codesignal q4 where you had to jump bewteen cells of an array if they respect the condition numbers[i] == numbers[j] and i-j < diff ? I could never get these types of questions
so i wanna know the pattern for it for the future
Example?
Is a 250/300 basically a 0/300 for a codesignal Q?
just did a practice test and got 1, 2, 3 perfect, but for the life of me could not get more than 250 on q4
Is union find really common on interviews?
Ahhh idk
I didnāt read all of the paper
yeah i only tried it this time because my 3 was ez af
yeah my implementation was O(n^2)-ish with a lot of DP skipping, I guess that still wasn't fast enough ;-;
ah okay, so don't click next when you're done with Q2
got it
okay i'm very stupid so bear with me
my solution was essentialy a O(n^2) loop
but for (i, j) term you could also calculate value for (j, i) term
yes
yeah
š
I can't think of a quicker way to do that Q but i'm sure there is
Q4 weighted extremely highly
I remember there being an equivalence chart somewhere, but iirc Q4 alone is like doing Q1, Q2 completely and partially doing Q3
np man
codesignal can be rough but anything 780+ is a great score!
Just that quants and some companies might not accept anything below 810-820
Yeah it looks like 4 is the only āalgorithmā question
123 runtime donāt seem as important?
What is code signal
no
oh sweet summer child
it's like hackerrank assessments if you've doone those, but worse and proctored
Company specific ones are different based on the company
The general one is what fucks a lot of folks over
since you can't retake it quick enough
true
it's so pog when you get a good general score tho
since you just chill with codesignal reports for a while
ye tru nice to be able to reuse
anyone know how long it takes to hear back from amazon after final
Uhhh rn amazon is waitlisting everyone after final if they pass
But around 2 weeks
Not everyone, some people got offers
Did they? As in after the waitlist emails started being given out
Or before
wait whatt rlly?
Anyone got last min tips for karat
Someone in the Amazon waitlist discord said their friend who interviewed 9/7 got an offer on 9/22
Iāve got it tonight and have only 102 leet done
so basically if u did rlly well u wont get waitlisted?
Presumably, don't know how likely it is though
Huh interesting I wonder if it's based off location too
Like I wonder if they chose less popular cities
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Maybe, I'm not sure
But it's not a good sign if there was only 1 person out of dozens waitlisted
Lie š
/jk
Meanwhile I be like
"It would be really nice to get an offer of 120k TC"
^ which btw is still a nice offer lmao
Oh yeah for sure
shit i'd even take a 100k tc offer bro
i just wanna secure a job already
For sure
Waiting on AT&T is super anxious
Especially as it's my first offer that doesn't come from alumni/professor startups @ university
What's the minimum offer you're willing to take?
Probably mid 80 at the moment given the loops I'm in, but I think given what's coming through I will probably easily clear that
Hopefully
For me it's around the 400k mark
Y'all I rejected a 350k offer to go to G, I'm not gonna bounce unless its worth it
My sibling in christ this is a support group for CS majors who can't find jobs
Fellow child of faith, this is more like a gathering for SWEs (aspiring or otherwise) from all walks of life
but I feel you, I was in your shoes just last year so that's why I'm here -- to help basically
Wya now?
Do you think itās possible to survive as ng in nyc or sf with 120k base
Yes with roommates
Wait u rejected an offer from Google while you work at Google?
Was it for a diff org?
No, I rejected an offer from Citadel to work for Google
I graduated last year
or live farther out into brooklyn or something
Yeah fair
Oh i misread ur initial msg š¤¦āāļø
You think this was right decision?
Yeah I'm happy with my decision
touch grass
How much are you making at google
265k
Touch me boy
Depends on what survival means to you. People with all sorts of income live here. Compromise on location, commute distance, apartment size and you can manage in NYC (without sharing even). You just need to know the right neighborhoods and need to toil hard to find a good deal as they disappear fast
oh no, they might have to live in queens, the horror š±
but I'm in Seattle, so taxes are a lot better here
265k in Seattle is insane š³
That's a lot for only 1 yoe
ikr I'm blessed
Fair point as well.
The more I hear about NY the more I realize how much I underrated the Chinatown there. Sounds like an awesome place - I'll have to visit some time.
I think for a single (most likely asian CS major from UC Berkeley) dude in his early 20s living as a SWE, there's a certain lifestyle they wanna live in NYC
Horrible place to live
so while you're right, I think maybe it's worth considering that too? idk
Which Chinatown? Manhattan Chinatown kinda dead after COVID. It'll be extra dead once congestion pricing hits
it's low, but doable. it's equivalent to 50k in low-med col areas
There's plenty of good offers out there straight out of undergrad besides quants, and I really like to express my transparency as a gateway to let folks know that
Even this year? Seems like most of the good ones are all closed rn
Literally just saw a dude get 260k at Roblox like 2 days ago
no shot that math doesnāt add up lol
There will always be opportunity for those who are so good that they can't be ignored
They do dumb shit like apply a constant % factor but that doesnāt accurately describe cost differences
Goddamn bruh
Unfortunately there isn't as much this year for the rest of us
Forgot to mention I got rejected from a some of the ones that are still open, like roblox and bloomberg
And if you're in this server, chances are that's you
is there a better calculator tho?
other than just personal experience
not really I estimate by doing taxes + rent but thatās just because my spending pattern makes that the biggest factors
yeah for me Seattle just seemed like the better choice
The apts are lowkey better than the majority of NYC apts
I'll put it simply with NYC vs Bay vs Seattle based off my second hand knowledge and research. With NYC, you are paying a hefty amount for the "life", and for the young-ins, the "night life". The city has iconic sights, but those are for tourists. What you'll most likely fall for is the sheer density of cultural variations in a relatively small land mass. Fiscally, most stable folks would put themselves in Seattle (min. tax, reasonable COL). But for someone in early twenties, I would suggest to give NYC a go. It's memorable, the city has tons of experiences (food, festivals, sights, bars), especially with a healthy social circle. There's more to do in the city vs anywhere else in the world.
But, that comes at a cost and that usually is the size of your apartment. So.. ask yourself what's important at this time.
I dunno, appreciate the sentiment but it's hard to get a feel for how good I actually am relative to CS majors/grads at large. Definitely a bubble in here, but even then Big N companies still feels like a moonshot with where I am in technical prowess
yea like how much you eat out will impact the COL impact
when in unit washer driers are a luxury, you know you got a problem
i feel like nyc being twice as expensive as med COL cities is pretty accurate
google is the dream i really fuckin hope i get the on site š©
How feasible would it be to commute in from NJ with the public transport?
But if ur making big buckeroos like most SWEs you probably arenāt spending all your money anyway so discounting saved money is stupid
can you carry in NY
what you trying to carry
your mom
One sad reality I had to face was that my technical prowess had nothing to do with my chances of getting a job. It was all just LC prep, sounding like I'd fit in with their culture and spoofing my resume to the point where the line with between lying and telling truth were razor thin.
Nowadays, there are really strong steps you can truly take. It's all luck in the end, but you can pivot yourself forward quite a bit
It's massive, so safety in NYC is like asking safety in an entire state. Depends on where you are. But on an average, given its size and population, NYC is pretty safe. TOns of gullible students end up here, but there doesn't seem to be a major problem with crime so long you hang out at the right spots (which are majority)
Like in my current budget has me saving ~40% of my income, doesnāt make sense to say I should save less in nominal terms in a LCOL city
don't walk around in downtown manhattan at night alone or homeless people will throw things at you
source: me
I should say that LC prep is that "technical prowess". I feel that once you're in, even the minimum amount of time before they realize you're a bad hire and try to PIP you is enough runway to actually get up to speed.
Throw things back at them
i live in SF rn and yea i wouldn't either
Dis is just any major city tbh
Friend also was accosted by a homeless dude in NYC
Itās hella dumb but I plan on doing this in Chicago until something bad happens to me
although SF homeless just leave me alone for the most part
NYC they get pissed if u don't acknowledge them lol
but texas
Also I realize that sounds weird - what I mean is that when I say "my technical prowess is shit" I mean "I can't really do leetcode too well"
What major city
You hitting bottlenecks? Like you can't do most meds?
I would say otherwise for NYC. The city is ripe for fun in the night. So.. be with your friends and ignore the few creeps you might encounter, cause the Night is when you truly enjoy the city.
For serious crimes, Manhattan is not a big target, especially south of Harlem. Most happening areas like LES, or Hell's Kitchen or UES are packed with college students as late as 2 AM
American city
when i was interviewing for new grad, i said "i don't know" to every single question for an entire hour in one of my interviews
still got the offer
try your best and be honest and things will happen
some parts of india have an even worse homeless problem than US cities
The only seriously dangerous areas I know of that I wouldn't be found hanging out (alone or otherwise) are North of Harlem, south of Prospect park in brooklyn and certain areas in Queens
my advice is try to not outright lie, but no need to be too honest
Significantly significantly less crime and homeless folk in other countries itās not a binary yes or no homeless people
Yeah some recent grad was gunned down a few blocks from me for absolutely no reason. Same school and age as me. Creepy af
I can do meds (notion document seems to suggest a 25-27% of peeking at solution though) after about 90 solved, it just...doesn't feel like it's enough? Perhaps that's something that just never goes away. At the moment I'm in loops, so I'm just studying previous problems mainly
thereās also pestering vs concern about your physical safety
LC stats are at 41 easy, 90-ish medium, 6 hard
You've done enough lmao. In all my interviews, I barely had LC hards and the meds I got were relatively simple to solve. Only companies I had hards for were Google, Citadel and Roblox
Didn't Austin vote to like move all the homeless to a different part of town in a NIMBY type beat
In BB, I only had LC easies
Iām not mature enough to carry lol
Basically where I'm at rn, not good enough to consistently get mediums or codesignal q4s
probably gonna be nigh impossible to get in california though
During the day I havenāt (visiting), but friend was threatened with violence to go to a store and withdraw cash for a dude when he was walking at night
There's a marked difference in the US and Indian average homeless though. In the US, homelessness is usually a result of broken systems screwing over few or drugs or some sort of mental illness. Almost all of those tend to make them rather comfortable to committing crimes.
In India, I've noticed, homelessness is usually a result of generational poverty. Few of our poor are homeless and most seem to have a decent support system from their equally poor family members. Not the case in the US, where it gets lonely and therefore, mentally taxing. So, I don't associate a ton of our homeless in India with crime
Perhaps I'll look back at my words one day and laugh. At the moment, I just feel super anxious because I have 0 job offers lined up, and graduating this year means that I'm running out of time to get something. I supposedly have 1 offer on the way from the AT&T but I don't want to believe it until I actually see it in writing.
I really appreciate the insight though, thank you.
seatgeek
Damn, that's unfortunate.
tru, most of the danger probs not gonna be at home tho
I'm not the best to get LC advice from since I didn't prep as crazily as some folk. I did around 60 LCs right before the cycle started? My take was that doing top tagged was great and Blind 75 helped a lot
All it takes is one. I think you can find me ranting and crying about having no offers one week, then I suddenly have 4 the next lmfao
Don't you need leetcode premium to get top tagged questions for each company?
Such is the way of life.
I have an illness of the mind, I signed an offer and Iām still gonna be anxious until Iām settled in, working, and get paid
LC prem is 35$, your future TC is 6 figs
idk it seems worth it to me
Itās $100 but split it with the homies
Itās $35?
it's 100 for a year
Wtf did I pay
ish
LC prem was prob one of the best ways I spent money
then it turns to meth/heroin
Any tips on going from needing to look at the leetcode medium solutions to not needing to? That's my issue rn
learn patterns
practic makes perfect
what are some crypto/web3 companies hiring rn? I have web3 experience so those will probably be the easiest to get past the resume screen
circle
After you do enough you should be able to recognize patternsā how many meds have you done?
i mean its everywhere bay area/seattle
i paid 130ish for the fy plan got a 145k offer
rip did you get 800s on Codesignal?
can confirm
Here's the ole slanky from last cycle. I think one thing I wanna mention is that I had a great interview rate, since my LC sucked but my soft skills closed the gap quite well
807
Just don't be like the person on the CSMajors subreddit that was like "I solved 85 problems by looking at the solution after 10 seconds of thinking, why do I still suck"
i dang 84/121 crazy response rate
wtf
wat kinda internships did u hav?
my response rate rn is so bad holy shit
The thing I'm trying to highlight is the support system which in case of my country, is usually family members, unlike most homeless in the US who are lonely. Mental illness by default doesn't make you dangerous, neither doees unemployment or any other homelessness factor. But when you feel desolate long enough, you lose empathy or to put it blunty, "shits to give" about the rest. There's a reason why people are surprised that slums in India, with their massive populations, aren't necessarily crime havens (at least violent crimes). And this is in stark contrast to the poor areas of the US, where drugged up junkies or someone desperate or stressed or hopeless enough will consider drastic measures to address their situation, which unfortunately isn't the same as having as support circle
I have a few companies in mind, what kinda web3 stuff have you worked on? Any good with smart contracts, NFTs? Solana exp is quite good
Soft skills underrated if youāre competent ish at LC.
dming
I think my response rate was kinda similar, just less apps. Resume was hitting last year
DMs are blocked my brother, just lmk in a thread or something
ah
i worked on cloudflare's web3 team
Oh my resume had an insane hit rate
wat kinda insane resume did u hav?
But you're cracked asf armhad
It's pretty mid ngl
i worked on cloudflare s web3 team
Cit rejected me even tho I gave competent technical answers lol. I didnāt get super hard techs tho
Gotta admit, I'm probably closer to this than I should be, moving past it is difficult
bro
šø
I mean seeing as you folk got Citadel/Google/Pinterest/etc. your resumes are obviously way more cracked than the avg person lmao
ppl say dat an den hav like 3 faangs š
Anybody here got into a big n without any big name companies on your resume?
Naw I got zero FAANG/Big Ns lmao. I had 2 no name internships, some TA work and some freelance
thats all
bruhhh what
inb4 no name internship turns out to be a unicorn
are you a T10 Uni person
dis yr is so fucked š
out of curiosity
One thing I will say is that MANY of the medium problems build on easy problems, if not directly use them as intermediate functions. It might be helpful to revisit some of those concepts in easy problems if you don't get the medium ones.
Barely T50 lmao
i hav a >10% response r8 wit a big-name tech
it certainly felt like it last year when a fuckton of people got Meta/G at once
Who
Snapchat
well now we see the hiring consequences of that
You can only use this command in 2022_winter_intern_process, 2022_summer_intern_process, 2022_grad_process, 2022_fall_intern_process, 2023_summer_intern_process, 2023_winter_intern_process, 2023_grad_process
Before yahoo I think my response rate was fucking 5% lol
ime (bc everyone learns differently) how much are you actually thinking about the solution when you implement it? Do you reference the solution when you are coding? My 2c is that itās best to only read the approach and not the code at all, understand how it works and then implement it yourself. Preferably later after you forget some of the finer details.
Number go up
Gabi who interned there last year seemed to get mad interviews with Snapchat on his resume
Ya i've talked 2 em
btw random side note, what were the most common lc patterns you saw in pinterest š
asking because I scheduled tech
idk, i tink its just harder dis yr for new grads
a lot of companies arent hiring
or hirin much less
Do you have a domain interest?
tbh nah not rlly, wich may b bitin me in da ass
Yeah itās harder. Iāve only gotten response from 2:4 so far for 2023
Airbnb and sofi
huh
I kinda disagree because I think all it meant was that there were more qualified people in the pipeline than previous years
i'm surprised airbnb still hiring
isnt it doin well?
More desperate folks, so they tried harder. More grads from 2020, 2021 and 2022 all backed up etc
No that was for ng
Airbnb lit y'all that remote work policy is king
is it? I assumed airbnb is getting worse rn with its pricing becoming worse
wait arent u a fulltimer?
Just started but I applied to them before I started
I try to, and I do think I'm making progress, but I still have some problems I still can't get, particularly greedy and sliding window problems
Before I had remote lol
i thot i herd dat it was profitable for the first time recently
Pinflex is lit
greedy is sometimes just impossible without seeing the problem beforehand
or smth like da
sliding window probs doable
graph, trie, tree, and linkedlist problems are my favorite
monotonic stack problems suck
so do greedy and dp
@frank wedge really be the only dude in this server to even pass the Pinterest resume screen
Iāve never been asked a trie in an interview. actually never did any fun ds in interviews
Mostly boring algos like dp or smth
Greedy problems are ass, like it's just pure fucking gut feeling
really? I feel like pinterest resume screen is super chill this year
their interviews sound like the big filter
They did me so dirty. Sent my app, went to be bed and woke up to a rejection email
I passed Plaid, chime, Airbnb, pinterest and square resume screens that was crazy lol
yea greedy is actually can you intuit the solution and convince yourself it works quickly
I'm waiting to hear back from Pinterest recruiter post phone call
Has anyone made a codesignal q4 pool of leetcode questions?
plaid aint doin ng dis yer š
really? for me they gave me the email like 2 hours after the phone
Literally none of em passed my resume
rippp
Then there's Twitch, pushing me to their L5 pipeline
Yeah nothing to me, that's either a good thing or a bad thing
amazon L5? sounds like hell
Damn you couldāve gift me some subs
big $$ tho
I assume reject until I get followup
It was pretty bad yeah
Yeah
huhhh I wonder if they relaxed resume screen this year
Just so you could give it to pokimane? naw š
since like me and 3-4 other guys all passed resume screen a few days ago at the same time
and posted it in processes lmao
Honestly I'm really bummed out about Qualtrics. One of the only companies that visited us on campus
armhad really be a tier 3 sub
Gonna use that Pinterest TC to buy her a tesla
wait @young peak are you the guy who used to join vcs and do random mock interviews
I think they do it in waves, seems like a ton of people got it at the same time
i swear i recognize ur username
If I get Pinterest I'm definitely living in NYC
Yeah dude!
I try to do that whenever I get time
Feels like it helped? idk
Phone screen was just a recruiter call? You shouldāve asked what teams are hiring
@foggy perch you got Pinterest technical 2 hours after recruiter?
yoooo that mock interview you did even tho it was brief and cut short deadass set me straight to know what to do in interviews and i landed amazon intern because of that
thanks!
huh didn't really know what to ask, since idk really know pinterest teams and would be down for most lmao.
I think it's OA -> recruiter -> final or reject
Phone screen was pretty chill
Fuck dude that's great! Glad I could make a difference to you guys
just them asking really ez behaviorals to make sure I wasn't insane
that and Sponsorship stuff
Honestly man that makes my day thank you
No I meant I thought they werenāt hiring anyone but backfills
I got the email to schedule it yes
oh idk, since they opened the NG apps
soon i'll join you at google tho š
Fuck yeah come right ahead
goddamn recruiter seemed really on board with moving me on but it's been 2 days and no response
I just applied to Pinterest NG Apps and got the OA + Interview so I assumed they're hiring and not faking
Make sure you join Seattle
i really want pinterest
im studying dp right now and aboutta start the snapshot š
Oh don't we all
oh yeah pinterest recruiter call also asks you about your desired TC which I think is pretty interesting
Once you pass the snapshot, it gets a bit easier
recruiter initials SH?
si
are codesignals practice questions on graphs worth the time?
I think everyone has SH for new grad lol
G really loves their tree problems, so prep that if you can
Thatād be cool af if they honored ng just because. Ngl people donāt know this but they make some crazy ethical choices for a social media company
I feel bad for her, she's gotta be insanely overloaded
uhhh so if you guys haven't scheduled a call with them yet
you're either gonna get transferred or idk
i hope so, the floodgates haven't opened too far yet in terms of other applicants, im pretty early to the snapshot so i hope that even if worst case scenario i don't do amazing that its more lenient to get to on-site
talk to @frank wedge
oh ig @foggy perch has a diff one
Is amazon rescinding offers
no I have her
I just said I have her lmao
Yeah this server makes things pretty skewed, most folks don't even know Google started yet
that's what the si meant
Any company can rescind an offer any time
guess i got rejected
Can't rescind offers if you never give them in the first place
Doesnāt answer my question
GL
its closed already lol
yeah my recruiter mentioned pinterest has been pretty smart with not overhiring so I'll assume that's true?
oh
is it open again?
Internet Explorer has entered the chat
googles ng was open for like 5 days š
bro fuck if I know, I am 2020 grad
Yeah itās true, also theyāve never done layoffs and are pretty smart with their money
people from 2022 ng still stuck in team matching
I don't touch NG stuff anymore

It's okay boomer techie
pog ok nice
fuck right off
I'll probably just do my Technical phone in like 2 weeks from now

bruh fr?
so I have time to see if I get a Roblox offer or not
yeah look at the G discord lmao
yeah google team matching is fucked at the moment lmaooko
lmk if I can ship you a beer and steal your 3070ti

that's super fucked
google team matching sounds so hellish to me still
i think they're still evaluating head count
interesting proposition @young peak
i was told PA match is paused still too and that the recruiter doesn't know when it'll continue
honestly if i pass google on-site just put me on a random ass team like amazon idc, put me anywhere š
I've already been burned once by google team matching by not being team matched in Intern project search
can you ship alc? is that legal
basically nobody will let you/explicitly not legal with usps
ofc if you just don't tell them they also proobably won't find out
@young peak what kind of beer
honestly assuming I can easily find companies later in my career that pay >= Google, there's a very low chance I ever bother with the google process again
it's just so intentionally annoying
Corona always
good choice
fair
I made moonshine in college
did you feel like a bootlegger
Guiness is also good choice
lmao I'm considering throwing a handle or two of alcohol in my moving boxes
would be a really stupid way to lose my shit tho
nah was just a broke freshman
When I turn 21 what should I try first
you sold moonshine? tf
did not sell
if the alcohol isn't strong enough to kill you it obviously ain't worth drinking
optimal way to drink alcohol is clearly vodka shots
Alcohol always tastes like shit, so find the most efficient way to get it down
we tested it, came out to 32%
I'm doing HR training rn
Should I apply to investment banking
so I skipped some msgs lmao
ime everything will taste like shit when u first start lol
well either you get into vodka or dark liquor
like whiskey
that's what I say at night and then I wake up with regrets, ex today
sign me up
nah I've never gotten an alcohol hangover yet
so I feel invincible
I've only ever drank too much once
lmaooo
when I went from 4-5 shots average -> 8-9 shots empty stomach
not the case for me
maybe the 3rd week of college, I blacked out
so I'm still vibing
I've only gotten hangovers when I don't sleep right/don't hydrate. unfortunately kinda easy to do when you yeet down shots
yeah I blacked out for like an hour
I woke up fine tho
it was like my body purged all the alcohlo while I was fainted
yep there are decent gaps of my time at college, that I dont remember

it was great
I think the investment banking job market is looking better than the swe job market rn
but as a broke college student we only had bottom shelf stuff lmao
that stuff gives everyone headaches lol
Inability to process alcohol gang
I think the HFT C++ core developer job market looks the best actually
Thai tea is the best in general
- fuck bicardi shit rum made me think I didn't like rum
- where's the gin
where the tito's
yeah I have better rum, but the Bacardi is for guests
y
rip
i know, my dad loves it
I just know titos is the vodka that tastes the least like alcohol to me
or has the least burn
Naw I'm just behind a few weeks on onboarding, so I'm catching up as best as I can
compared to cheaper ones I've had
I hate being left behind
friends don't serve friends bicardi. plantation is cheap and 100x better imho
also agreed fuck titos taste like shit and isn't cheap
I looked for that, did not have at store
alcohol is weird here in Philly
like the laws
oh
not bad
might pick uop
plantation 5yr is gr8 I love it
this is the stuff we had in college
if I'm being cheap vodka is an easy W tbh
Well the alcohol is how we cope with this new grad cycle
Deadass when someone posted in the subreddit that they left a package somewhere on campus people were out there tryna find it š
I also keep some Jack Daniels and spiced rum somewhere in my cabinet, but that is for the real friends
my friend groups go-to in college, was chilled fireball shots
can't do whiskey or spiced rum tbh
wait ho wyou know
basically anyone I invite into my home I'd be willing to share my good booze with tbh -- I don't have any actually insanely fancy booze.
tanqueray 10 is the only moderately expensive spirit I regularly stock
kettle one and grey goose are not even that expensive, but good enough quality for a all-around
meh don't usually think fancy vodka is worth it at all
like my luksusowa just fine. tried a handle of belvedere and it was ight but prob wouldn't pick it up again. also fancy tall bottles stupid hard to fit in freezer

true
my parents have like 50yr bottles of wine
I was going to go out this weekend, but I am so new to Philly I want to learn more about the city first
rather than yeet right into bar scene
Anyone know which course this ss is from?
yep prob next weekend
I think our team is doing some happy hour stuff

company paid drinks

So I have family who lives in Philly, so I already know quite a few people
one of which works at Dropbox, so he is gonna show me some tech places
messaegecouldnot be loaded
huh
sorry I am boomer, and slow
idk I have not gone to any philly steak places yet
bro I moved in Monday and Tuesday, and worked Wed-Fri
Philly cheese steak hit diff
I'm wondering about which course this ss that you sent is from
I'm trying to improve on sys design so Im looking for resources and this seems really interesting
yall does Square have any open NG positions?
I think I see a few thigns like 0-2 yrs YOE???
Just went to steak 48. Thereās del Friscos, capital grille, butcher and singer, Chimaās, Barclays prime. I love restaurants here
Unless you meant cheese steak
Philly
i got this next week actually, not sure how to handle that question lol
what's my desired TC
š³
I've heard that the "right" thing to say is to ask what the range is
and then negotiate from there
I told her "I don't have a specific number in my head right now, but I'd love to come back to this question later in the process." I guess it was good enough for her.
Never give a number until you're balls deep into the interview loop
And even then wait until they actually send an offer
gabrielle something
yeah i was thinking of saying something similar
ill go with that
interesting that they ask for that tho
do y'all know how to prepare for pitnrest? as in, do they ask LC tagged?
o same when did you get oa and email to sched phone?
I never got an email after the recruiter call
is it possible to fail recruiter call? š
o lmao
I got a new grad oa but haven't taken it yet bc I'm scared lol
anyone know what the questions are like?
for pinterest
isnt that just like leetcode?
kind of
it's LC style, but codsignal always follows a certain pattern
q1 and q2 are easy
q3 is not that tough but involves writing a lot of code
q4 is tough
ok you know of any resources to prep?
I'm used to frontend interviews which aren't usually algo-based
Do these problems https://www.techinterviewhandbook.org/grind75 and you should be good to go
Isnāt this just blind 75
Yes, but not sorted by pattern, and there are about double the questions in the longer version (169)
Here's an overview of all the coding assessments, has some problems to give you an idea of what the codesignal problems might be like: https://github.com/Leader-board/OA-and-Interviews/blob/main/Online Assessments.md
Anyone take the OA for Atlassian?
bruh google oa was so fuckin easy hello
i was expecting some wild dp and shit but it was way easier than the practice one š
we take those
being home for the weekend made me remember the things i live for and the things im grateful for
being in college made me forget those
Wdym, lc meds??
low med or even easy
Im in college rn and im about to burn out 3 weeks in
i enjoy spending time with my family, tbh
if you wanted optimal for one of them it would be a medium for sure lol
bro i spent like 5 hours studying graphs and dp for no reason
i heard that google OA is RNG, but the odds of getting a hard OA is less likely at google than it is at amazon
strings and array š¤£
Only 5 hours š
so people regard google oa as easier than amazon
just today lol
since amazon can throw some real stinkers
honestly i feel like i've been getting so lucky with OAs
my amazon oa for intern was also easy
cisco was all LC easy
nah we both the same

Breh why didnt i do, i ghosted that oa kekkkkkkkkkk
cisco USA right?
anyone doing lc contest?
I think so
do interns have oa2
honestly i realized i dont wanna go back on campus
i like being home
i feel lonely and feel like im putting my energy towards nothing on campus
yes
oa2 is pretty simple though most of it is common sense and LPs
Breh uni is useless without campus life
i only go to campus for class
maybe talk to one or two people after for like 5 min then i leave immediately
i see no point in staying on campus "for fun"
based
like what's fun about campus lol
granted im not in any clubs or organizations at all so maybe that's why i find it so boring
tbh if i didnt have a girlfriend in freshman year i would have had an existential crisis too
wat
i thought it was meant to be when we met on ripplematch
made it all the way to final but failed HR round
š
o tru
she said i need to get more TC first
i think its hilarious that brennan delsing is an actual person
wait what
but her name is being used on all the auto emails
youll see
literally just google "brennan delsing"
tbh when im on campus i feel like the loneliness makes me feel like my future is bleak if a miracle doesnt work out
but when i go home i realize how much i have(the privilege of a happy and supportive family) and that failure is relative and temporary when i have good support in life
how many interviews is palantir?
i really dont wanna go back tomorrow night
i dont wanna suffer in loneliness with a hopeless job search
well my common sense is fucked then
is there LC for common sense
read up on leadership principles
Hey, does anyone know Optiverās new grad Tc? Just thinking about if i should take an Optiver internship over Roblox (if i pass the final)
Cisco was LC "does your brain function"
inb4 no return offer -> back to purgatory
Wrong channel
This is #2023_grads my friend
Optiver swe is around 400k return I heard
Hey guys. A random question, it there any discord for Amazon waitlist victims? It seems to be a place place for me to share anxiety XD
honestly š

Okay, seems that everyone is suffering from that...
But I have cute cat as avatar, so I feel good
I used to believe I'm fast but now I see I'm not

Thank you Ryu
who need a bot when you have Ryn in our channel
tbh isnt that most internships
internship work is usually isolated from product-facing tasks
my internship was isolated from product-facing services
i was doing internal tooling shit
my internship was kinda boring
at amazon
it was internal tooling
everyone on my team did internal tools
literally didnt help
I didn't have a gf freshman year and def had an existential crisis
now that im a lonely senior who doesnt feel close with my friends
and has no job
i have an existential crisis
me asf
i get you
do you think ill land multiple interviews this season? out of the 46 companies i havent been rejected from already
Only Ymir knows
well even if you don't believe in yourself, and even though you don't know me, i believe in you
tbh i should buy MW2, i need to remember that theres more to life than this
the idea of "i cant afford to be distracted" is a bad mentality
fishing is lit
i just preordered mw2
and am downloading the beta rn
gonna play tonight
Hey guys, I got referred at Amazon for a 2023 new grad role. However I did not get an email about the same. I searched online and came across this Blind thread saying that the referral email comes a day later https://www.teamblind.com/post/Amazon-Referral---do-you-get-an-email-Zd3TQJa4
Is this accurate?
Yep, you get an email first from amazon jobs and then amazon student programs. After you fill out the latter, it's a waiting game.
I checked my job portal and saw that I do have a "Draft Application" for the same role, but I'm hesitant in applying directly from that draft because I think that may void my referral
sigh
Roughly how long does it take to get the email?
24 hours
Okay, so do I wait for the email or do I fill out the application draft from the portal?
Not sure on that one. I would say te keep it as-is, I think as long as you didn't submit it you should be eligible for referral ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Only submit once you receive the email
The thing is, I didn't even click "Apply" on the posting directly. I started seeing that application only after my guy said he referred me
tbh i realized that going through the full new grad process builds character
like we're going to be battle trained and we will know the ins and outs of the interview process
by that point
lol
Only for a serious candidate though. I still know people in a CS major who can't write hello world
It's funny that CS degrees are simultaneously the best thing to get to pursue SWE and at the same time the least important thing to prepare you to actually land interviews and get the job
seeing students submit hello world to assignments gives me life
my school has this class called Problem Solving Techniques and Group Dynamics but it's basically just competitive programming class where every friday you do 3 leetcode hard level questions
The course that introduces students to Git, VS Code and unit testing comes as a third year course.
leetcode, sysdesign, language + low level systems trivia
for my school at least these are side effects of classes, there's no class that just teaches this
those are the 3 families of interview qs
Btw does google ask sys design at all?
I haven't had system design come at me yet
not sure if anyones done the ng interview this year yet
But I believe SeatGeek will ask that
With seatgeek? Not yet.
Google hasn't reached out to me at all
man MW2 is so much fun
So ur saying the actual interview was way harder than the job itself
I use cpp and its simply the master race over java and python
Yea itās great. Like siege and bo1
cpp is valid but java still based
i use python and i agree
I think it just depends ig who u get as an interviewer
I think I did Hirevue and then haven't had anything else
when did u take the hirevue?
Immediately after I applied
I did the hirevue effortlessly last year and they rejected me
like it aint even hard just few basic ass behavioral qs
same but it is wat it is lmao
My recruiters from google always say you're not supposed to be asked system design questions
I figured as much, the recruiter I talked to didnāt mention system design
I did the new grad interviews for google
Oh shoot can I dm you then real quick?
for that q i was like its basically a game of hot and cold
I wanna double check some things
sure
beyond the dumbass hirevue for imc anyone know if the interviews hard?
depends im a dumbass to atm
being a dumbass is very relative
holy shit u gotta do math?
quant doesnāt rly have enough granularity tbh, qt and qr are p diff
to many dumb ass every game mode in cod is tdm
man mw2 is LIT
i can not wait to play more of this shit
tbh as a fast paced fps it has a learning curve to it for someone new
but this game is a lot of fun
im excited to play more throughout the year
rust is interesting
seems like a headache for my monkey brain though
we have to do typescript for the software dev class at my college and i already hate it
At least it's not plain JS
there's nothing to hate : |
TS is hella nice tho
@rain patio u have any good green smoothie recipe
Does that taste good tho?
Why u donāt put almond milk
Too
U know what would be good tho
Frozen avocado
Kale
Whey protein
And banana and almond milk
Imma actually try that tmr
yoo avocado in shake sounds hella good actually
SautƩed right
It looks hella dry
Also I forgot almond milk btw
Always put almond milk in smoothies
Unsweetened
yes, see std::collections
does hackerank do more tests than the hidden ones?
Mw2 is awesome
Hi! I'm in my last year of university and I don't know yet what to choose. To apply for a new grad role or to pursue a Master's degree and continue to apply for internships for this summer. I haven't practiced algorithms for a year and I don't know system design at all. I'm concerned that a month is not enough to prepare for interviews. Also this year is a tough one since most companies have reduced the number of positions. What do you recommend to do?
You're not gonna be getting a lot of interviews anyways
Cycle is brutal
I'd apply for jobs now and start prepping
If you took algos and ds a lot of it will come back to u
and what other topics you recommend to learn?
i heard that niche companies also ask you about operating systems, low-level, etc
typescript >>>> javascript
ReactTS š³
don't let "oh i feel like im not prepared" be the reason you spend $30k on a masters
A masters is a big financial commitment (without scholarships that is) so you should only do it if this is what you actually want
if you really wanted to avoid the new grad market this year, you can take up a job at a small local company, which should be easy to get, then apply for a bunch of new grad roles next year. Most of them say graduated within 12 months anyway and you'll have a bit of money and experience by then
I'm in a country where we have 99% public universities, so money are not the problem
I see
is there any resource with the questions asked in OAs and interviews at niche companies? (other than MAANG)
also, can I still apply for internships in US? I'm from Poland and I heard that in US the recruiting is earlier than in EMEA, for us it has just begun
How do you get food stamps
Object oriented principles, Systems and networking principles, and programming language trivia
Wait you need a visa right?
In that case start applying for grad school too
seems like to have the best possible chance at any company's OA you gotta know java, python and cpp to avoid the complete dicking
Any channel or links for Entry Level/New Grad data science roles?
guys, has anyone here interview with IMC for the SWE Intern role in amsterdam? (not chicago)
DraftKings Oa doesnāt allow python
draftkings, plus trading companies like cpp
and java is a good OA language cause nearly every non-trading company is okay with you knowing java as a starter
Whatever state you live in should have a agency that handles government assistance. I believe every state is different but in AZ you have to be under a certain income threshold and working.
so im thinking about selling plasma, getting foodstamps, and collecting unemployment until i can get a job again
I think you should 100% take advantage of any government assistance available to you.

Java is still a top common language in the industry rn
Does anyone have any thoughts on working at OCI vs something like Oracle netsuite
it will be for at least the next decade
hate to break it to ya python simply the supreme
dont go oracle
in general
bro
im doing it for the pay
youre really implying i have a choice
then pay -> oci
id be lucky to even get an oracle interview
yeah i agree
is oracle culture tolerabe
like does anyone think working at oracle is a nightmare
on another topic, MW2 is fun. i kinda missed call of duty as opposed to playing the traditional 5v5 fps game.
in CoD you can still have fun even with a bad team, its better for solo players
finna play search and destroy
this is probably gonna be the game mode that mentally destroys me
yeah i already lost my will to live
S&d is boring
Play demolition
Spawn trap
regular oracle ull just be hanging with old ppl
oci its just another aws/gcp/azure vibe
Ah makes sense
I'll talk to my family friend about his advice
If I can apply for all roles I'm gonna apply for all
search and destroy is like csgo with shit maps
I'll probably be ghosted too
did twitter close permanently for next year or smth
probably
tbf what does twitter even need that many engineers for
i wanna work at activision now
CoD is LIT
to break down democracy further
im gonna work on my game dev portfolio
and apply for game dev companies
and i hope to work on a game like CoD
one day you all will see my name on the credits

People who require sponsorship, are you getting any phone call or interviews?
Anyone able to share how atlassian OA was?
I need to escape the job hunt asap
I feel like Iām slowly losing my humanity day by day
pretty straightforward implementation questions, not really that much thinking algo-wise
Gotcha thanks! Still LC style tho right? And this was for SWE not SRE right?
yeah still lc style, but trickier in implementation than algo, and yes this is SWE
oof that sounds worse to me haha, what difficulty LC were they?
easy to medium
gotcha thanks so much! Did you move past
yep, got all test cases and moved on
Sweet good luck! how long did it take to hear back? And do you know what the overall process is after OA?
mood
yo play mw2 bro
u can probably affordi t anyways
I need to wait for my next unemployment check to come I
which company
So you got phone or interviews with all of them?
Damn goated
how many internships on ur resume?
Honestly call of duty is awesome
It's helped me cope with how awful of a recruiting season it's been
Call of duty is my mental equivalent of grass touching
CoD Reminds me to enjoy life
the amount of cope I'm seeing
How did u tell
Lmaooo
Honestly it's a mix of school prestige, actual resume skills, and luck that's why I'm getting screwed this season
The latter two mostly
wb 3 internships and A
First point isn't that important but probably would have done a bit for me
and A. Deez Nutz
People who interned at Affirm this summer, anyone got a return offer from them?
so i know faang and similar tiered startups are the name of the game but what's the climate like with companies below them
Has anyone given the 2x60 format interview for amazon? I have mine lined up for day after tomorrow. No idea what to expect
what are some examples of companies below them?
What companies are in between those two?
Probably no companies in particular, it just raises your chances overall
Is jpm a good new grad job ?
ya
Literally most
I mean yeah you still gotta pass the interviews
But getting interviews is quite doable with an amazon internship
Itās still faang after all
bloomberg final tmrš
not really lol
has not worked for me lmao
Recruiting season has been dry
I mean fair enough, I was mainly speaking to my experience last year
