I have a couple months of very basic C under my belt and that's as far as that goes, so I'm starting that from scratch most of my skills are spread across py/go/java

haha if you know java you should be fine, I started with it and cpp is pretty similar, just lots of extra memory management and stl stuff

I'll have to go through everything thoroughly and get a little bit of practice, build any confidence I can get before I walk in

Do you have any idea what the training program looks like? from what I've heard it might have changed recently (2-3 weeks intro, team fair, then back to specific training after you've got a spot)?

it might be different for ur office, but for nyc/princeton its pre-training first for most people, although you could get put right into training depending on ur start date. pre-training is basically just working on a project with a randomly assigned team for like a month to a month and a half. training is around 7 or 8 weeks along, basically covering cpp, python, javascript, bloomberg tech stack, the bloomberg terminal, etc

so around 3-4 months of training total lol

did you get paired up with an engineer btw? my recruiter offered that to help me settle in, was really nice to see how things work (albeit over Zoom)

havent yet, but only cause I'm 2 months from my start date lol. I think closer to start date, theyll pair me up with someone, especially during pre-training, like a mentor-type figure

yeah it's awesome to have a connection early on, maybe see if your recruiter can do it before too - my buddy gave me a nice overview of how they do project management, all of the internal tools (they use the terminal for almost everything lmao, seems crazy to me), opportunities inside the company, was super cool
