It depends. I think it’s pretty difficult, since for 6 coops terms, I wasn’t able to get a single interview, but almost all my friends were able to get interviews for FAANGs and other big names in the us.

Just depends on how lucky you are. The visa for interns is a J1 visa, so some companies might not sponsor it.

And full time is easier as they’ll give you more chances. Especially if your from a target school, since they have specific recruiters for these schools

I'd say from a resume standpoint a lot of companies appreciate extracurricular stuff on your resume as well. Things like clubs you participate in, volunteering, any sort of leadership activities are great things to include.

Yep! I reviewed resumes actually for the Telus new grad program this past hiring cycle. I usually looked for well thought out projects, any form of experience, and especially volunteering/clubs/activities

Also I stress this but the formatting, spacing, and font all that matters big time. It’s so much easier to read a well formatted resume.

I would try to tailor your resume to specific fields. So I would put down the projects more related to what im applying and put a bit of detail in each (like 1-2 lines)

But by then, you mainly focus on talking about your experiences anyways

Idk what a worklearn is but describe what you did on your resume well. If it's dev work then you should be good. Describe the impact that you had at your job and quantity the results as best as you can. A good rule of thumb for constructing points is "I did X using Y technology which resulted in Z". Sometimes this format doesn't work for all points but it's good general structure.

Once you've made your resume have it reviewed by people or post in anonymized in #resume to get feedback.

Then apply to A TON of postings. 100+ applications minimum but I recommend more

While you're applying, workon your interviewing skills. Technical and behavioral. Behavioral can be done by coming up with answers for common questions like "tell me about a time where you've dealt with constructive criticism". Have projects and stories you can talk about it. For the technical portion do leetcode questions, blind75 is a good list of questions. Other technical questions can vary company to company, some ask OOP, SQL, or language level questions. It'll depend on the interviews you get. But oop and sql are pretty common things asked about

I did nothing until my third year of uni as actual exp. But honestly focus on projects and do some Leetcode. Try to land a small co-op at your own time during summers or whatever (considering you have off terms and aren't an international student) and literally just apply use 3 different emails to apply it's a numbers game

Language level questions usually arise in OOP (java, C# etc) and web related roles (react node etc) other than that I've had some DevOps related jobs ask me stuff bash related questions like "what's the first line usually in a bash script/what's it called" or "what types of values can you have in a bash array"

Best advice is to dive in and experience it first hand because a lot of stuff can be done in different ways

everyone i know who graduated with me from utsc is either working at faang or some equivalent (msft, atlassian, etc...) or went to the states to work for a hedge fund

utsc coop is super duper slept on imo

but also 18k is a lot of money

also u can do ur first yr at utsc and apply for a transfer, although it will be tough, i know a few people who did it

its an internship program for 2nd year up u do like 4, 8, 12, or 16 months u reapply for each term u wna do an internship
