I would say, if you're super confident as a dev and/or the tech stack of your expected team, I would do 12 weeks just to have some time to chill.

Otherwise, finishing the project is a binary metric, you either finish or you don't. Your manager may see your excellent dev skills and code quality, but someone higher up or a bar raiser will mostly see whether you finished or not.

So yeah, more time to finish it gives you more breathing room if things go wrong, or there are complications.

i interviewed with bitgo and it was wild. they asked me to design a van emde boas tree optimized for modern hardware caching, which is already insane. then there was a dp problem with superincreasing knapsacks and modular constraints. they also hit me with a graph theory question about finding the minimum feedback arc set in a weighted digraph. oh, and some cryptography stuff about implementing a lattice-based key exchange efficiently. easily the hardest interview i’ve ever done.
